Great buy if you're not looking for one of the huge background noise cancelling ear pieces. I wanted background noise canceling, but I wasn't willing to wear a brick on my ear all day. Noise cancelling: This is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Callers have said they can hear birds chirping, running water at the sink, and other people talking loudly nearby. It really isn't a big issue. No one has complained, just asked if I was outside or washing dishes. My wife said the only thing that's loud on her end is running water at the sink, everything else was just small background noise...just don't wash dishes or your car and use this. Volume: flipping fantastic. Good bass for music, great call clarity, and I actually don't ever put it at max because it goes so loud. I can run my table saw or industrial shop vac and still clearly hear my music. Fantastic music headset. I'd buy it again, just for that alone. Durability: Tough. As. Nails. Been soaked in the rain multiple times, stepped on twice by me, and dropped a lot. Still works like new. I've attached a pic of how the whole shell is broken from me stepping on it, and then a pic of it snapped back together. Still works great. This thing is a tank. I've had several different brand ear pieces in the past. I'll be sticking with Plantronics products because of this ear piece.

Previously had the Plantronics Voyager Edge headset and liked it, however, recently found out it melts after a session in the clothes dryer :-( Didn't want to spend that much again, so I went with the Explorer. It's an OK substitute, with a few of caveats: ** It comes with just one ear-gel cover size, medium. In my average-size ear, that means the ear-clip is a must, as the device falls out easily without it. The Edge ships with all 3 sizes, and the large-size provides enough staying power to use the headset without the clip. Plantronics offers a 3-pack of each size at their website reasonably priced with shipping at just over $5. The Voyager Edge had a bunch of motion sensor features, like answering a call if you put it in your ear, or pausing music playback if you took it out -- these functions often didn't work properly and I'd shut them all off, so I don't miss any of that. ** The earpiece itself is loud enough when on a call or listening to audio, but the voice prompts are barely audible unless you're in a quiet setting. They were much louder with the Edge. ** I kinda miss the call announcement feature of the Edge which spoke the callers name and had the option to 'answer or ignore' using voice. Not exactly a fault though, at double the price there have to be some features that aren't in the Explorer. I prefer the design and appearance of the Voyager 505 -- it's flat, and doesn't protrude out of the ear nearly as much as the Edge. The buttons are easier to deal with than the Edge. Overall, I'm pleased with the purchase but do wish it shipped with all 3 sizes of earpiece covers, and had louder voice prompts.

Being a Jawbone lover for years, and always thinking nothing else was better, I bought my first Plantronics bluetooth headset, an M25, and was immediately blown away by the battery life. Using these headsets for so long, I wondered how anyone can hold a phone to their ear for more than 10 seconds, as doing so absolutely drives me crazy! I always bought used Jawbones on Ebay, then realizing how important having a new one was, I splurged $100 and purchased the new Jawbone "Era by Jawbone", not to be confused with their previous model, the "Era", and was disappointed with the battery life (low battery alert with 27 minutes of talk time in 3 hours). My used M25 went for 2 solid days, and I talk A LOT! So, my next "new" headset was certainly going to be a Plantronics, and this one is wonderful! I've never installed the ear loop, it stays in my ear, unnoticeable even leaning back, has physical volume and on/off switches, and the Plantronics app on my Note 5 works great. I've even had to use the "Find my Headset" once, after misplacing it, and the squealing was plenty loud enough to go right to it. It even allowed me to raise the volume of the squeal of the headset, from the phone, in case I didn't find the headset and needed a bit more help. It even has a map of where it was last used, so it can be found that way. I only wish it had the battery life of my former Plantronics, the M25, because it was so spectacular in that regard. But hey, don't we all have micro usb chargers accessible in every room these days? Anytime during the day, I can just plug it in for 10-15 minutes, and it's pretty much fully charged again. But being a heavy talker, and I can almost get through the entire day on one charge with this one. That's great, especially compared to the 3 hours from my last "new" Jawbone. (Yes, I may have had a defective Jawbone, so I shouldn't blast them too much) But the Plantronics are batting .1000, and I'm as happy as I can be with it.

The Explorer 505 has been a good headset so far

I've had this headset for a couple of months now and it's been working pretty good so far. After having used the original Marque headset which lasted a couple years before I starting having trouble with it. I switched to the Marque 2 last year. It did not last very long before I started having issues with too. I was hoping the second edition would have been just as good if not better than the original one, but things just didn't work out that way. So I switched to the Explorer 505. And I am very happy with the performance so far. The reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 star rating is when I turn it on, it will connect to my phone but within a few minutes it will disconnect and a few seconds after that reconnect. After it reconnects it's fine and I have not noticed any other issues. I have not looking into the disconnect issue to see if there's a way to it fix yet. But one plus the Explorer has on the Marque headsets is it still gets signal from my phone when it's in my pants pocket. The Marque seemed to have trouble either getting or keeping good signal when I had my phone in my pants pocket. I have an original iPhone 6+ and normaly just have my khaki dress pants for work or khaki shorts on weekends nothing heavy, so I was not sure why the Marque was always having trouble with signal. I tend to keep my phone in my left pocket and my headset on my right ear which works fine with the Explorer headset. I had to either put my phone in my right pocket or take it out of my pocket all together to get good signal with the Marque series headsets. Which to me defeated the purpose of a hands free headset. I would recommend this headset based on my experience with it so far.

Ok, so I went on a rampage and purchased a whole bunch of stuff one afternoon at BB. One of the items I purchased was a new bluetooth headset as I spend a large amount of time in the car. I originally puchased another brand, and was not happy and exchanged it for this unit. Let me say, I was surprised that I only got one ear gel for the unit, and had to call in and wait 8 days for it to arrive. I was witholding judgement on the unit till then. Well they came, and I sadly have to now report. First off, I really wanted to like this headset as the volume was good. It never gave me fits to hear anyone. That being said, there are other issues. Pros - Good sound, looks good, decent but not great wind cancellation Cons - Fit, sound, App FIT, this unit has hurt my inner ear from the get go, and I was waiting to get the gels to trade it in but the others don't work. Wind Cancellation, you can have one window down, but if you do more than that, I am told it is like I have my head in a blender it is so noisy. I can't justify paying so much for a headset to have it act like my old 28 dollar one. and lastly, app. there is no real need to load the app as it is pretty worthless. All In all, if it fits your ear and you don't drive with your windows down, then this is an awesome headset. If you ever put your window down, then sadly, look elsewhere. That is what I am going to have to do.

I obtained this headset mostly to be able to answer the phone on long drives. The connection between the headset and my phone is solid, and very quick to connect when the device turns on. Audio quality is clear going both ways. My car is a little noisy but I can generally hear people okay. The clip is effective at holding the device in place and you can put it on with one hand without too much trouble. It can make your ear a little sore if you have it in for long periods, but nothing to worry about unless you plan on being on the phone for a few hours at a time (and really, you could say the same for most headsets at that point). Battery life is good and it plugs into a USB port to charge (with an included cable that doubles as a belt clip kind of thing), so it should work with computers and a lot of phone chargers, too. The charging cable does not have data contacts, so it will not prompt your computer to complain about needing drivers or some such. It does look rather strange as a result, but I assure you that it works well. Overall, this is a good headset and I would recommend it if you have a need of making hands-free calls, and your phone supports Bluetooth.

I have always been frustrated by blue tooth headsets that claim to work seamlessly with your phone. Now, I have finally found a headset that truly delivers on this promise!! The Plantronics Explorer 505 is that headset! Once you turn it on, it is intelligent. It enters pairing mode automatically, and works with Apples SIRI, uses verbal cues to answer or decline calls and much more. The sweetest feature is its ability to connect to two different bluetooth appliances! I connect to my phone, and to my Ipad...it knows which one it's using, or whether both are being used and divides it's attention accordingly. It also comes with a "holder, charger" that not only charges the headset via USB, but also provides a storage solution for you headset! At $59 it is one of the best deals out there, and it's available now at Best Buy!!! It is brand-new to the Plantronics line, and this is the same company that makes Headsets for Air Traffic Controllers in the FAA! A dependable, excellent, company trusted by many!

Works fine but with major drawbacks

I bought this bluetooth headset with intentions of making hands-free, wire-free calls from my desk. This device works fine for that. Drawback 1: The charging strap, in my opinion, is just a terrible concept. The part that connects to the usb port can go into the usb output in either direction. Only one direction works. So I broke my phone's USB hub by plugging this in the wrong way on accident (when I removed it, the insides of the USB port came out attached to the strap). So I had to buy a new charger. 2) My computer does not support Bluetooth natively, so I purchased a wireless dongle to use with the headset so I could watch videos and hear through the earpiece. The Bluetooth dongle can connect my computer to the earpiece, but the sound option on the computer for choosing the earpierce is greyed out. This device obviously is not supported for bluetooth playback from a PC. I can, however, play back sound on a multitude of other bluetooth devices that I own; soundbars, speakers, televisions, etc. They all are not greyed out like this headset. So I gave this 2 stars because the item works but really did not fulfill all my needs. I also spent $15 for a charger replacement and another $15 for a useless wireless dongle so the $30 I have lost from buying this product is why I gave it 2 stars instead of 3. I really wouldn't wish this misfortune on anyone else so "No, I would not recommend this", let alone to a friend. Maybe I would recommend this product for my arch nemesis who bullied me in 3rd grade, but definitely not a friend.

I purchased the Plantronics Explorer 505 after a bit of research on a BT headset that was small and could be used for conference calls from both 1. my MS Surface and 2. my Phone. The 505 seemed to fit the bill. Good: Fit: Fit is good and you will be able to wear comfortably for long conference calls. Battery: Battery life is very good, lasting close to advertised times. Bad: - Bluetooth: The BT execution is poor. The system often will not reconnect to my phone and i have to manually re-pair them. This seems to happen most if you have more than 1 device paired. But Plantronics advertises this prominately so i expect it to work. - Call Quality: Callers report that my voice would intermittently drop out and sound distant on calls. Adjusting source volume and headset volume did not fix it, re-pairing did not fix it. I attribute this to either the BT implementation or the microphone. Summary: Decent product for the fit and battery life, but BT implementation holds it back from being recomended for conference calls.

Hi Thomas! Thank you for sharing your feedback on our Explorer 505 Headset. We're sorry to hear about your experience. The Explorer 505 is compatible with any device that supports Bluetooth headsets. As you know, your Surface computer is equipped with an internal Bluetooth adapter. Bluetooth technology works through several bluetooth profiles, and these are the ones that the bluetooth card should have to at least allow a connection to the headphones: Audio transmissions, Hands Free (HFP) and/or Headset (HSP) Bluetooth profiles. Nowadays many computers have Bluetooth built-in but not all of them support Bluetooth headsets. Many times, these drivers are not installed by default - even on new computer installations. To isolate the cause of the issue, please test your earpiece while it is connected to your phone only and see if you get the same results. afterwards, you might also want to try testing while connected to two phones. If you don't get connection issues then this is not related to the earpiece itself. If this is not the case, please note this unit has a one-year limited warranty from date of purchase. Feel free to contact our Customer Care Team at: https://www.plantronics.com/us/en/support/contact if you require further assistance! plantronics

This unit works very well. It connects quickly and stays connected and has excellent battery life. As with most units this small, the only real gripe I have is the speaker. The volume doesn't get as loud as I would like it to be. Working as a driver who needs hands free talking, it can be difficult to hear when picking people up at a crowded airport terminal or just trying to hear over people talking in the back of the vehicle. The only other complaint is very minor. It doesn't really fit into my ear very well and after a few hours, the back of my ear begins to hurt a bit from the plastic ear-piece - which is really necessary if you have adult size ears as the ear-piece alone won't fit well into your ear canal. Otherwise this is a solid, performing unit with good range (away from my phone - over 30 feet) and 7 + hours of talk time on a single charge. It is compact, charges pretty quick and the charging cable doubles as a belt hook. All in all, worth the money. If you don't want to spent $150 bucks on a super high end unit I think you will be well pleased with this, keeping in mind it's few minor flaws.

I tend to lose small items like blue tooth headsets, so I'm generally shipping for something that is affordable but still offers the features ice come you energy from technology that. This hits the spot ! Not too day I'm happy to louder s $60 headset, but for the price this blue tooth device really does offer the quality sound, functionality and ease of use I require. It plays music, events phone calls and even gives driving directions simultaneously while either of thy further are on going. It's battery lasts between 3-6 hours fruit depending on volume and style of use. Overall, it's no beats by Dre headset. It isn't a high end crystal clear phone receiver. But, it is very good at doing both of those things. This product offers comfort, functionality, ease of use and a good price? If your looking for the next big thing, keep hunting! For the rest of us who want hands_free calling and the ability to jam tunes in one ear. It's perfect? Think about what you need, what you want and what you can shed to lose (trust me there small and easily lost) ... If you don't have the need for the newest the fastest, this thing is add solid add you'll find.

I just bought this tonight. Have had 2 Motorola headsets, in the past. Great but it was time for an update. 1st bought the Voyager Edge. Loved the features but had connections issues and it would not charge directly. It required the back-up charger to charge. Then it wouldn't charge anymore. Had to return. Decided to try a cheaper model. Picked up the 505. I thought it had the answer by voice function like the Edge, but a review I read was wrong about that. Also, you cannot upgrade the firmware. It is what it is, but call quality is still nice and I can still stream music to it. Thanks to Google Now and/or Siri, you can control a lot of your phone commands by voice. Another plus is the battery life is much better than the Voyager Edge. The device is smaller and more rugged. I can just turn it off and throw it in my pocket. The USB strap that comes with the 505 is nice for luggage and to charge the device from a PC. The USB strap is charge only, does not have data lines. So your PC will not go wild trying to install new software. If you don't need all the software features like on the Edge or Legend, and you don't need to answer by voice, this will do fine. I like it and will see how it last.

I've had every high end earpiece on the market from Jawbone to Bose to Jabra, Motorola, you name it I've used it. Usually spending somewhere between $100 and $150 a pop. My most recent was the Motorola Sliver II at $130. Loved it but it had some chronic design flaws. After my third one I found they had stopped making it. I did not like the clunkiness of the Platronics Voyager 2 with the boom mic and refused to go with "dog-collar" type headset. I checked out the Plantronics Explorer 505, read the reviews and figured with the two-week trial period at Best Buy I could always bring it back if it was subpar. It has been fantastic! As someone who spends 3K+ min per month on a headset, I can tell you this is the least money you will spend for the best quality headset, hands down. Buy it.

I have been mostly happy with Plantronics - Explorer 505. I initially went in to buy a Jabra headset but ended up getting the Plantronics due to it's 4.1 version instead of 3.0 Bluetooth version on the Jabra. Version 4.1 provides better battery saving technology as well as other improvements over 4.0 let alone 3.0. That said I occasionally get static on the headset even with my phone right next to me on my desk. But I also have to say my office is where my 2.4GHz/5GHz router is as well as another BT transceiver on my desktop. So a lot of wireless activity going on in very near proximity of all my devices. I haven't used the headset outside of my office since I use the headset as a hands free option while on my computer. Despite the BT 4.1 version battery life seems to be just ok. But then again the headset is very small thus a very small battery. Overall I'm happy with my purchase and would recommend it to my friends.

I purchased this Bluetooth for myself because of the ability to use Best Buy's purchase plan where I might return it for another if it malfunctioned I mostly purchase through Amazon where you can easily return. I have purchased many through Amazon and returned and tried others. I currently have two working plantronics edge they are perfect to hear podcast on. As far as a phone conversation, I can hear others but they can't hear me. They worked at first but after a few months they failed. With this I have the ability to exchange it at Best Buy. When or if this happens. The same happened with a blue parrot small type Blue parrot over the head are fine but I needed a smaller YES I DID ALL UPDATES, AND EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM This blue tooth has been excellent thus far Powerful for being extremely small. I am limited as to what I can wear because I wear both hearing aids and glasses. I also want blue tooth to be multipoint.

I purchased this headset to use for work. I'm a delivery driver for a company and use it everyday. The noise cancelation on it is great and has a clear quality sound. Very easy to use and is pretty comfortable on my ear for wearing it at least 8 hours a day. It's very light weight and small, which doesn't get in the way. The battery life is really good too and I use it quite a bit and only have to charge it 2 or 3 times a week. My only complaint about it is that I wish the volume on it went a little bit louder because my work truck is a little loud so it can be hard to hear on it sometimes. But as far as the quality of my voice to other people; they say it is very clear even with my window rolled down on the highway and the noise from the truck. Great overall product for the price!!

This was purchased to replace my old Plantronics earpiece that died. My impression is that the audio is not as good as the old one - this one sounds a little harsh. However, I use it to pair to my phone and also to a Bluetooth transmitter which I plug into a scanner radio. The transmissions on the radio are often poor quality to begin with. The earpiece links to my phone immediately when turned on but I sometimes end up having to re-link to the transmitter. Also, my first Plantronics always announced that it was paired to both devices and announced if I went out of range & back in again. The Explorer 505 announces the initial link to the phone but if I move out of range there is often no announcement of lost connection. It never makes any announcement of connection to the 2nd device at all. One positive though, it does seem to have pretty good range. Overall, it does the job, but I'm not impressed.

An Honest Review: Not the one for me

    RookieT247

I lost my old bluetooth (Plantronics - M95 Bluetooth Headset) & had to get another hands free device. (Bought in March 2016) This bluetooth was $10 more expensive than my last one, has very poor voice quality, very short range, drops calls often and/or defaults back to your cell. It has only 7 hours max battery time which doesn't matter because it drains your cell battery completely even when idle. (Allow about 2 1/2 hours actual talk time) There's a 2 sec notification delay when your cell rings. I have an iphone 6 & SIRI can't understand any command coming from this headpiece. The black matt finish shows every scratch & scrape & always looks dirty. I ignored previous bad reviews because of the overall good ones... so if you do decide to get this bluetooth anyway, buy the replacement warrantee too. I'm so glad I did because I can swap it out for any bluetooth I want (equal or lesser value of course)

Sorry to hear you experienced issues with this product.

Short range, high battery drain when idle and poor audio quality are indications of a defective unit, especially if this happens on a brand new unit out of the box. Usually we can troubleshoot these issues by deleting your headset from your phone, restarting your phone and then re pairing them. If the problem persists even then we recommend replacing the item.

Overall this is a fine headset for the price. It has some very convenient features like using a common plug to charge (micro USB). I love that it can connect to multiple devices at once, so I can have it paired to my work phone and personal phone at the same time and receive calls on either. It's very light and fairly comfortable. I'd wear it for an hour and not feel uncomfortable. The bad: It's too quiet. It may be because it fits loosely in the ear, but regardless of how many ear tips I try or how I place it, the volume just isn't that high. People say they can hear me fine, but I have to ask people to repeat themselves or press the headset into my ear. It's JUST barely loud enough to overcome road noise, but if someone in the car starts talking loudly on top of that or the A.C. is on high, I won't hear the other person well.

I bought this bluetooth device because the previous bluetooth device, Bose, broke, literally, in half when I picked it up to use. Bose no longer makes bluetooth devices for mobile phones. I was a bit skeptic that the Plantronic device would be any good and much to my surprise, it is better than I thought. It is light weight, fits comfortably in my ear without the ear loop (included in package). Talk time is 7 hours which is not a big concern to me since I do not talk much on my cellphone. Charger is compact, is not bulky, and can be carried in my pants pocket. Also, price of this bluetooth device is a lot less than the Bose bluetooth that I purchased a few years ago. Definitely a worth replacement for my old Bose bluetooth device.
