I have been using the Plantronics Explorer 505 for two months
Plantronics Bluetooth headset designs range from dull to aggressively corporate. The mid-priced Explorer 500 headset fits in with that heritage: The sound is good, works well, and has a lot of fit options. If you're looking for a solid, no-frills headset, it definitely hits the mark.
The Explorer 500 is a two-inch long black stub with an eargel and a micro USB charging port on the back end. Half of the outer face is ridged and becomes a Call button, and there's a physical power switch and volume buttons on the top and bottom. The battery life is good and can be charged with any micro USB charger. The headset comes with a charging cable and you use your own charger.
Voice commands are basic; when you hold down the Call button, it launches your phone's voice command system. Incoming calls alert you of the number, but not of the name of the caller. A smartphone app, Plantronics Hub, allows you to set your headset to beep if you lose it, and monitor its battery life from your phone.
The Plantronics Explorer 500 isn't brimming with cutting-edge features, but it delivers reliable calling at a reasonable price. If your needs are simple, the Explorer 500 is a solid bet.

Previously had the Plantronics Voyager Edge headset and liked it, however, recently found out it melts after a session in the clothes dryer :-(
Didn't want to spend that much again, so I went with the Explorer. It's an OK substitute, with a few of caveats:
** It comes with just one ear-gel cover size, medium. In my average-size ear, that means the ear-clip is a must, as the device falls out easily without it. The Edge ships with all 3 sizes, and the large-size provides enough staying power to use the headset without the clip. Plantronics offers a 3-pack of each size at their website reasonably priced with shipping at just over $5. The Voyager Edge had a bunch of motion sensor features, like answering a call if you put it in your ear, or pausing music playback if you took it out -- these functions often didn't work properly and I'd shut them all off, so I don't miss any of that.
** The earpiece itself is loud enough when on a call or listening to audio, but the voice prompts are barely audible unless you're in a quiet setting. They were much louder with the Edge.
** I kinda miss the call announcement feature of the Edge which spoke the callers name and had the option to 'answer or ignore' using voice. Not exactly a fault though, at double the price there have to be some features that aren't in the Explorer.
I prefer the design and appearance of the Voyager 505 -- it's flat, and doesn't protrude out of the ear nearly as much as the Edge. The buttons are easier to deal with than the Edge.
Overall, I'm pleased with the purchase but do wish it shipped with all 3 sizes of earpiece covers, and had louder voice prompts.

I've had every high end earpiece on the market from Jawbone to Bose to Jabra, Motorola, you name it I've used it. Usually spending somewhere between $100 and $150 a pop. My most recent was the Motorola Sliver II at $130. Loved it but it had some chronic design flaws. After my third one I found they had stopped making it. I did not like the clunkiness of the Platronics Voyager 2 with the boom mic and refused to go with "dog-collar" type headset. I checked out the Plantronics Explorer 505, read the reviews and figured with the two-week trial period at Best Buy I could always bring it back if it was subpar. It has been fantastic! As someone who spends 3K+ min per month on a headset, I can tell you this is the least money you will spend for the best quality headset, hands down. Buy it.

It's super hard to find a bluetooth earpiece that does what it was made to do. This one actually works and LONG-TERM! People can hear me clearly and I can hear them clearly. That's all I ask. I've had this one for over a year now. The rubber part that goes in my ear is super comfortable too. I don't like the squishy ones or the ones that are too hard. This one is perfect. Of course now that I've recommended it to family, it seems they've discontinued one of the few working bluetooth earpieces out there. If they ever come back, I highly recommend the Plantronics 505. The $60 price point is a great investment.

I’ve had this head piece for over 4 years. I have no complaints. The 2yr warranty that goes with it is awesome, too. Sound is clear and connection is great. My calls are heard clear when ppl talk to me. Playing music while having this on at work makes the day go by a lot better.

Hi Nick and thank you for sharing your honest feedback on our Explorer 505; However, we're sorry to hear you were not able to find a comfortable fit. Please make sure you try other sizes of ear gels available. You should find a set of 3 different sizes with the following part number: 201777-03. To adjust the fit, the ear tip has a thin loop that bends to gently tuck into the contours of either ear. You can rotate the eartip on the headset or add the optional clip-on earloop. These headsets are designed to fit the vast majority of ear shapes and sizes; however, we do know that one size may not fit all and if you find the product too uncomfortable for normal use we strongly recommend that you consider using a headset with a different wearing style. We will surely forward your comments to our Product Development Team as we appreciate feedback based on customer use to create the best possible products. If you have any questions, feel free to contact our Customer Care Team at: 1-888-363-0726

Using every weekday for about a month now. So posting my review. I work in sales and speak to many customers, as well as participate on many conference calls. The Apple Airpods I've owned for two years are low on battery life, and cut out in less than an hour, and the iPhone mic/earbuds that came with my iPhone were hard for the other person to hear. I researched bluetooth headsets (Plantronics, Sennheiser, Sony) and over-ear wired headsets (Logitech), and took a chance on this relatively low-priced option. Two things were most key for me in my decision here: long talk-time battery life (not standby battery life, actual talk time battery life), and advanced bluetooth technology i.e. as close to Bluetooth 5 as I could get. I knew my device would cut off less often the higher technology I could get. The nice option is you can pair this with up to 2 devices, but it's not a good idea if you're using both devices in close proximity as it causes bad feedback to the listeners(which most people will know but fyi). It fits well in my ear (I have medium-sized ears if you go by BOSE in-ear adapters), it's very lightweight compared to some much higher priced options by Sennheiser and Plantronics, and I actually love the recharging strap/dongle, and that's made me want to use this even more. Sound quality and filtering of ambient noise to the listener is very decent for such a low-priced headset.
My only caution is it pinches a bit if you're wearing it for hours. So if I'm not on calls I will actually take it off, and put it back on when my calls start.
I've used this both with my iPhone, and also with my laptop, for video conference calls, and voice-only conference calls, and works great.

I purchased this headset to use for work. I'm a delivery driver for a company and use it everyday. The noise cancelation on it is great and has a clear quality sound. Very easy to use and is pretty comfortable on my ear for wearing it at least 8 hours a day. It's very light weight and small, which doesn't get in the way. The battery life is really good too and I use it quite a bit and only have to charge it 2 or 3 times a week. My only complaint about it is that I wish the volume on it went a little bit louder because my work truck is a little loud so it can be hard to hear on it sometimes. But as far as the quality of my voice to other people; they say it is very clear even with my window rolled down on the highway and the noise from the truck. Great overall product for the price!!

Solid Headset

I obtained this headset mostly to be able to answer the phone on long drives. The connection between the headset and my phone is solid, and very quick to connect when the device turns on. Audio quality is clear going both ways. My car is a little noisy but I can generally hear people okay.
The clip is effective at holding the device in place and you can put it on with one hand without too much trouble. It can make your ear a little sore if you have it in for long periods, but nothing to worry about unless you plan on being on the phone for a few hours at a time (and really, you could say the same for most headsets at that point).
Battery life is good and it plugs into a USB port to charge (with an included cable that doubles as a belt clip kind of thing), so it should work with computers and a lot of phone chargers, too. The charging cable does not have data contacts, so it will not prompt your computer to complain about needing drivers or some such. It does look rather strange as a result, but I assure you that it works well.
Overall, this is a good headset and I would recommend it if you have a need of making hands-free calls, and your phone supports Bluetooth.

Hello and thank you for your honest review on our Explorer 505 headset. However, we are sorry to hear about your experience. Charging issues with Bluetooth headsets can be a problem caused by the power source, cable or the product itself (it can be the charging connector or the battery on some cases). You may want to charge the headset with a different charging cable to completely isolate the issue. If for some reason you are still experiencing the same issue then it means the headset has an actual problem and it is best to replace it. For replacement instructions please click on the following link: https://bit.ly/2N637EC. Please don't hesitate to contact our Customer Care Team at 800-985-9815 if you require assistance.
