If you just want chat, this is the headset to buy. I have a nice surround system and I like my game sound to come out of the speakers and not my headset. This headset does just that; only chat. It is very comfortable which I can't say for any other chat headset I've ever used. The noise cancelling mic is fantastic. I can turn my surround up and shake the house while nobody in the chat can hear it over the mic. No other chat set I've had could do that, and I always had to turn my game volume down. I do which it could be a little louder, however I'm playing my games at a high level so that is mostly my fault. The volume control is kinda cheap and a little jenky, but the headset is only $30 so you get what you pay for.

I used the in-ear headphones for awhile and they were very inconvenient and actually irritated my ears. This product works so much better for me and leaves one ear open for hearing the door or the phone while I wear it.

I tried several Xbox compatible headsets before I settled on this one. Notwithstanding that the price was less than the others, I like that it is a one cup ear piece. That's important if you want your other ear to hear something other than what's coming out of the Xbox audio. The headset is fairly light weight and the padding on the ear cup is just enough to make it feel comfortable without pressing into the side of your head. It also has openings around the ear cup that help with ventilation. The incoming audio is excellent. I deducted one star for two reasons. The mic is super, super sensitive. I had to wrap it in some noise cancelling material because my gaming partners kept complaining that they could hear my breathing - despite the fact - that I put the mic six inches away from my mouth. But, I suppose that it better than having to shout to be heard. The second issue is that the inline, mute slide switch has a limited throw and there is a limited tactile feel when one goes from mute to open mic. This headset has a 35mm phone plug and that's standard in the industry. So you can use it with a cell phone that has the same type plug.

I was looking for a headset to use with my Xbox One X that had an open back ear cover, volume control and mute. I wanted to be able to listen to game audio on my home theater system and be able to hear the players in my party through the headset. This headset works and sounds great for that purpose. The mic doesn't pick up the sound from my speakers either (and mine are LOUD). 5/5 for anyone who wants to use the headset only for chat and play their game audio through speakers.
