The Rig 500 pro hs is an awesome headset for gamers looking to get in the action with out breaking your bank. While there are so many different competitive headsets to choose from it can sometimes get confusing on deciding which headset might be right for you. Hopefully this review will help in deciding if this is going to be the right fit for you and what to expect from the Rig 500 series. First lets talk about what you can expect to receive out of the box. Your going to get the headset itself, mic(which is flexible), and a 3.5mm audio cable which houses the volume control near the end of the cable close to the jack. The ear cups have three different height adjustments available to you as you can see in one of the pictures i have uploaded. The earcups sit a roller type push release. Simply apply pressure on the earcup to pull out and place at your desired height. The headphones themselves don't pull out for adjustment as you would see on a typical style audio headset but rather they adjust almost automatically in way by a flexible top band. The mic plugs directly in to the headset on the left side and operates the mic on/off switch by simply pulling down the mic. This is actually a pretty cool feature that my other headsets don't offer. Simply pull the mic down when you wanna talk and it will enable voice chat. When your down talking slide the mic back up and out of the way and voice chat is automatically disabled. There are no buttons to push. Now me personally i prefer to game with wireless headsets just due to the fact that the wires are usually bulky and long and tend to get in the way and become annoying very fast. This headset utilizes a very thin and small 3.5mm audio cable which actually hooks up on the back side of the headphones and then runs down to whatever audio device you wish to hook up. This headset can be used with anything that has a 3.5mm port which includes ps4, xbox, pc, cellphones and tablets to name a few. The headphones appear to be a closed back design which means it will greatly help in reducing outside noise pollution however do not expect it to isolate all outside noise. Now the frame design is very thin plastic which had me taken back a little bit. At first sight they look very cheap and easily broken however after 3 straight hours of gaming i did not have to re-adjust the headset due to a comfort issue so i'll chalk that up to the thin plastic design. To be quite honest these are the most comfortable gaming headset i think i own when compared to the other two i own. Since the comfort level is so good i'll be forgiving on the cheap looking design. Now there is one thing i noticed out of the box. The instructions that came with this show that the cushion earcups are held together by what looks like magnets and can be easily removed by pulling them apart. That is not the case on this set up, i tried pulling them apart and they would not give. I stopped trying because it felt like the fabric was going to rip. I want to bring this up so that you are aware that there are different models in the 500 series. This is the Pro HS which is there lower end and not the Esport series. Just make sure you are aware of that. Enough about that lets dive in and talk about functionality and just how well the mic and audio drivers perform. First off mic function is great. Voice chat is crystal clear and people never once struggled to hear what i was saying. Now i tested the audio part on two devices. My ps4 pro and my galaxy s9 plus. While playing on the ps4 pro i was pleasantly surprised by just how quick and easy set was. All you need to do is simply plug it in to your controller directly below the touch pad and boom your ready to go. And this is where that volume control feature was kinda of nice. Since the volume control sits near the end of the cable near the jack that means volume control is going to be very close to your hands. The turn dial volume control is going to actually sit right between the two joysticks making it to where you have very minimal arm flow from your had to the volume control. This means you make a quick adjustment with out having to worry about losing too much hand placement on your controller while gaming. Now while this set up did well for the ps4 it annoyed me quickly while listening to music on my s9 plus. When i play MMOs and have to grind i usually like to listen to music off my phone to help pass the time. I decided rather than using two different headsets i'll just swap this over to my phone and see how well it does. It hooks up fine and audio is great but the problem i had is now that volume control became a nuisance. Every time i would skip a track and lay it back down on my lap or put it in my pocket the roll dial volume control would be moved and the volume would either go too low or too high. At the end of the night i got so annoyed by this that i ended up grabbing my regular audio headset to stream my music and put the RIG 500 aside. The set up works GREAT for console gaming but not so great for streaming music off a phone or tablet. Now lets talk audio quality after all part of gaming is being able to be submersed in a game by both visual and audio. I was expecting the quality to be terrible due to the fact that this is a budget friendly designed but i was actually very surprised by how good it sounds. The sound quality you can expect to get is going to be leaning more towards clarity and high res and less towards deep bass. So take for example call of duty. As i was playing i could hear the footsteps hitting the ground so crisp and clean that i felt i could almost hear the leaves tearing. As the bullets flew by or were released from my high power rifle the sound quality was clear and not muffled by any type of distortion or feedback. I felt that i could almost hear metal rubbing on metal as the bullet left the barrel, that's how clear the audio is. Now the bass is definitely lacking and that's the part where you start to see the price difference come in to play. Whenever an explosion took place and i was close enough in the game to receive damage from it i would clinch in anticipation expecting to hear that big bass rumble in my speakers. That big bass drop sadly never came. Don't get me wrong there is some bass but you can definitely hear the lack of significant bass quality as the audio drivers struggle to push it out. Now im a big fan of deep rich bass and in most situations this would upset me. In this situation however i wasn't too upset due to the fact the audio quality was so clean that i almost felt like i had expensive High Def headphones on. Here's my final verdict. Is this the best sounding or best design on a headset? No. But is it the worst? No. I gave this headset 5 stars simply because i feel it performs better than i was expecting for its price point. You have to always consider that you get what you pay for and at this price point i was actually comparing this headset to another one i had bought 6 months prior that cost about the same. My other headset is cheaply made, the mic is not adjustable and sound quality is just horrible. This headset has a very comfortable design with audio quality that i would expect to see once you starting getting to the upper end price ranges. The use of a low profile audio cable and volume control that is easy to access during gaming adds even more to the value. The on/off mic automated feature is nice and takes away from the distraction of having to find buttons while gaming. Another thing about this set up that i may of forgotten to mention is its versatility with other devices. I like to play Final Fantasy xiv on the ps4 which is a MMO and since im on the ps4 im forced to use discord on my cellphone. I now have an audio device that works perfectly with Discord on my phone for gaming. All in all this is a great product at this price point and quite frankly im surprised it doesn't cost more. Pick it up if your on a budget and you should be pretty happy with it. pros: -Good volume control placement for PS4 and Xbox gaming - Great high res audio -Very comfortable -Mic turns on automatically depending on its position Cons: - Lack of deep bass - Flimsy frame design - Volume placement can be annoying for tablet or phone use

This gaming headset is an amazing value that excels at the two most critical requirements for a headset: Comfort and Sound Quality. Comfort This is hands down the most comfortable headset I have ever used. The comfort is due to the ear cups being so soft, the adjustable frame, and self-adjusting headband. It is so comfortable and lightweight that you can forget you are even wearing it! Sound Quality The sound quality of these headphones are exceptional and comparable to other more expensive headsets. They really sound that good! Setup and Useage The headset came nearly full assembled. The only extra step was to insert the removable microphone boom. I really like that the microphone is removable, even though I will keep the microphone attached because it neatly extends upward when not in use. When in the up position, the microphone is muted so you know it is off. The volume is adjustable by using a knob on the connector. This allows you to adjust the volume easily by turning the audio dial. Verdict I can't recommend this gaming headset more strongly! It has amazing comfort and souund quality. Insider Tips This headset is marketed as being for the PS4, but uses a standard 3.5 mm connector so it can be used with most other devices. The connector that seamlessly fits the PS4 controller, has a removable sloped attachment next to the audio dial. If you remove the attachment, the connector will connect flatly with other devices.

As a console and PC gamer, I use a lot of headsets. I've used many of the various brands, from the cheap side to the $300+ side. From USB to 3.5mm jacks. I have a great pair of 7.1 Dolby cans for my PS4, but it is corded and has be be plugged into the PS4 USB. It has great sound, but sometimes that cord just gets in the way and is annoying. If I'm just gaming without voice, I'll use a pair of my 3.5mm earbuds in the controller - but at times, the audio skips. So, I've been looking for a good 3.5mm headset, just for the sake of convenience. So, I got a pair of these Plantronics cans, not expecting TOO much out of the box. I got about what I expected. These pretty much fit your run-of-the-mill description, nothing super special or fancy. Unboxing is the typical experience and inside is the headset, the mic and the cable (both detached). Pulling everything out was easy and I immediately connected everything together. I'm not gonna lie, they do feel cheap and honestly...I'm not sure exactly how long these will last with normal daily use. The audio quality is GREAT, however, the overall volume is meh. With the brand name, I expected these to get pretty loud. I do have some hearing issues, so I need my headphones to be naturally on the loud side - without having to crank them to the max. My $300 PC headphones, I can listen to comfortably at just below 3/4 volume. With these, I have to crank to the max and even then, I still struggle to hear everything I should without paying extra mind to it. I'm not sure why 3.5mm headphones struggle with volume through the PS4 controller (and yes, I have everything adjusted correctly in the menus and the volume slider is maxed...). My earbuds I use can get SUPER (uncomfortably) loud at max volume through the PS4 settings....so why can't these? Also, I'm not a fan of the elastic "RIG" head strap that fits to your head when you put them on (see the pic - not the top plastic part, but the elastic "cushion" part that says RIG in gold). I do like how the cans pop out of the side pieces so it can be adjusted up or down to fit various head sizes. Also, the mic is very sensitive (good), but feels VERY awkward to adjust (not so good) towards your mouth. I can never figure out the placement of the mic hole on the stem without having to look at it. So, given the overall volume of these, the build quality and the band part, I'm gonna rate these 3 out of 5 stars. This is for the simple fact that you can find yourself MUCH better quality headphones at or around the same price level as these (within $10.00, give or take). Get them on sale, but I wouldn't pay full price for them. I may pass them along to my 9yr. old as her "first" gaming headset. That should test the build quality. LOL.

    Great headset for less

As an avid gamer, I used a lot of headsets. I spent a lot of money on my old headset, and unfortunately the cable recently started failing (sound was cutting in and out). I decided to get another pair of headphones that suit my needs for less. When I first opened the Plantronics RIG 500 Headset, I was pleased to see how easy it was to assemble. All you need to do is connect the boom mic to the headset itself, the cable and the jack into your ps4 controller and you are ready to go. While gaming I have to say, this headset is very comfortable. There is an additional strap at the top of the headphones to keep them from sliding off of your head, which is a blessing compared to my previous one. The most practical feature is the quick volume control, which you will find on the jack that plugs into your ps4 controller. There were times when playing in my party that I had to turn the volume up and this was much easier in terms of functionality. The headset is made of plastic and it feels flimsy. However, the light weight feeling of the headset is what makes it very unique compared to others -- its comfortable, as I aforementioned. While wearing these during my raid sessions on Destiny 2 -- this was honestly ideal compared to my old headset. The sound by the way was incredible. I have a 7.2 channel surround on while I game, and that might be a problem to some gamers and it can be, however, the noise canceling feature allows me to hear my party members without sound from the outside leaking through. I was actually very impressed when I switched the audio to go through the headset. I specifically played pvp matches and I was able to clearly hear enemies on the other team sneaking up behind me through these. With previous headsets, I would either have too long of a cable or too short of a cable. This one is 1.3m, which is actually just right; I'm no longer strangling myself while moving or switching positions when gaming. Or unplugging the headset if I accidentally sat on the cable. Now what I found even more impressive is, the earcups are easily removable in case you ever want to replace them. Though I must say, there is an adjustment feature I find very impressive for placing the earcups at a level that suits the player. Simply pop the earcup out and place it in the next bracket. Again, this is a feature I have not had on previous headsets so this made adjusting the headset to my comfort level much easier. Overall, I would recommend the headset. The comfort of wearing them is above what I was used to; if you can look past the cheap plastic feel, you will find a lightweight design that is suited for lasting comfort. The volume adjustment is conveniently located on the input jack on the controller, for ease of access. Last, the 50mm driver provides a clear crisp sound, whether you are in a chat party, or when you need to quiet down the home at night and want the sound to penatrate your ears through the headset.

The Rig 500 Pro headset for PlayStation 4 is a pretty good sounding gaming headset. I’ve had the pleasure of gaming with them for a the past couple of days and I have to say that they sound pretty good. When connected to my PS4 controller through 3.5mm jack they don’t get extremely loud (a good thing) and the sound is pretty balanced overall. The highs and mids aren’t too tinny and the bass is perfect. They don’t exactly thump but the bass is noticeable. You’ll feel Explosions, and rumbles against your ears and head. When playing shooters, the stereo sound is immersive and you can hear and distinguish where footsteps and bullets are being fired from. I think this headset is one of the better sounding headsets I’ve used in recent times. Build quality is above average for this price range and the materials used feel premium. I like that the ear cups are removeable and adjustable. The strap on the headband is comfortable and accommodates just about any skull size. The ear cup padding is excellent and comfortable. I played 5 hours straight and my ears did not get hot or tired. They are great for marathon gaming sessions. My only complaint about this headset is that I have been unable to use them with anything other than my PlayStation 4. The 3.5mm jack will not plug into any of the other devices I’ve tried. The curved volume knob makes it difficult to plug it into a anything other than the PlayStation controller. I know these are dedicated gaming headphones but it’s alwags nice to use headphones for media / music consumption. I do love being able to adjust the volume with the flick of my thumb, Also it’s great being able to mute the mic by flipping it upward.my friend all said that my voice sounded loud and clear with the microphone included. All in all, I’d recommend this headset if you’re looking for an affordable pair of great sounding gaming headphones.

    Unbelievably Terrible

Plantronics is a company with a pristine reputation of providing the HIGHEST professional Audio/Communication solutions. Call centers around the world, and truck drivers rely on their industry leading equipment to keep them in communication with crisp clear vocals. Which is why i was ABSOLUTELY surprised and ultimately dissatisfied with this inferior product. (TL;DR - they broke within 3 hours) lets start with what makes this a very poorly engineered design. As mentioned by the company Rep, there is a ps4/xbox controller " adapter " that is required for it to properly nest onto the controller. Why would they make a device that is designed for the console, but require an adapter ? The "adapter " is a rubberized piece of plastic, a 'collar' that sits around the base of the headphone jack, to ensure it is seated snugly into the controller port. which with out the collar the jack goes too far into the port and makes a bad connection. and you cannot adjust the jack to sit slighty outside because then you get clipped audio and a buzzing feedback. i've only had the headset for 3 hours and the plastic collar already became useless because it doesn't retain its shape and therefore doesn't hold the jack in at the correct distance, which from what i can tell is at a mm length... the other issue is when it did work, the mic Piece is Separate and on a loose toggle, you're supposed to be able to flip the mic up inorder to 'mute' - another TERRIBLE failure of engineering here, because 1 mic has 4 separate connections, the most temperamental of which being the part that flips up and acts as a signal interrupt. The problem is the connection feels like its bridged by a plastic wheel, and you can hear it grinding as it turns, it doesn't feel SOLID like any type of device that has a function like this, SHOULD. also the Mic piece clips into the folding arm, already connecting it i had apprehensions about this, i could see it was a clumsy design flaw and wondered how manytimes can the mic be disc/reconnected before it breaks and stops working ? (the answer is one ) So there i am playing a Game on teamspeak, on PS4. players are telling me, how crisp and clear the sound is, i'm like " thanks its plantronics " and i brag on the company... well i notice that my audio stops coming through a couple matches in, and i tried adjusting settings, restarting the controller, resetting the PS4. each of these things only worked for about 4-5 minutes. then i played with the jack and realized the poor engineering is leading to a missed connection, not to mention the toggle drop down mic switch had already started to have issues maintaining its signal as well. WHY not Make a Terminal that requires no adapter to fit and work out of the box with PS4 ? turtle beach has them. inferior engineering. This production line should be recalled. also on an aside i didn't realize this because i thought they were all the same, but apparently these headsets, although the same price as, were not actually bluetooth. its not a dealbreaker for me personally, but when you're paying $100 for a headset it should be bluetooth - just saying.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on our RIG 500 PRO HS Headset. We're sorry to hear about your experience. The purpose of the plastic adapter is to prevent the cable from movement and remains in a position when you connect it to the control. Regarding the audio issues when adjusting the plastic sleeve, please test it with a different control (first party) and a cell phone without the sleeve, just to determine if the issue comes from the connector or the actual control. Please note that this unit has a one-year limited warranty from date of purchase in case you continue to experience technical issues. We thank you for your comments. When this headset arrived I was excited I am due for a new headset. My previous headset broke, I opened up the packaging and didn't think much of this headset because it looks like most other headsets out on the market. But I was wrong and I'll tell you why. Here is what I love about the headset - Headband is a soft comfortable fabric - Ear cups are a soft material - Detachable mic and 3.5 mm jack - Can be used with Xbox and PC as well due to the 3.5 mm jack - Comfortable to wear for long gaming sessions - Material seems durable it is plastic but not a cheap plastic - Volume knob is awesome There are a few things I am no sure how to feel about. The detachable items like the mic and headphone jack are those sold separately should you happen to lose them? This is a valid concern especially for those who attend gaming tournaments or for those who prefer using their own equipment when gaming. How about the jack that comes with the headset is that replaceable as well? I have a mischievous pet that has destroyed some of my gaming accessories. The sound is not the absolute best but it could definitely use some more bass for sure. Overall I have put about 45- 58 hours roughly on this headset. I am loving this headset so far. It has the same issue as with all over the ear headsets ear sweat... but that is not a deal breaker it is just a persistent problem with all over the ear headphones and headsets. While it is advertised as a PS4 headset I just happen to enjoy using it more on my Xbox due to the weird way audio is routed to headsets on the PS4 it is a software thing. FYI this headset works with the newer Xbox controllers with the 3.5mm headphone jack not the original Xbox one controllers. Despite the few concerns I have with this headset I still say it is a solid and comfortable headset. When shopping for headsets Plantronics normally does not come to mind but that is about to change if they keep improving on this headset.

    Gaming Can Be Divinely Comfortable

Plantronics - RIG 500 PRO HS I’m an avid gamer. I love every aspect of gaming, one of which is the sound that compliments the gaming experience. As any gamer knows, there are those long gaming sessions that we lose ourselves in. Having a comfortable headset is a necessity in the gaming world. The Plantronics RIG 500 Pro is a new level of comfort that I honestly didn’t think as feasible with a gaming headset. In past cases of owning other gaming headsets, there seemed to be some kind of issue that allowed me to be fully comfortable. My previous headset delivered on the sound but after an hour, the headband would start to dig into the top of my head. Sometimes if I shifted the headset, the gaming glasses that I wore would be knocked askew because the headset wasn’t accommodating to people needing to wear regular or gaming glasses. The RIG 500 Pro dissolves all of those concerns for the casual and hardcore gamer. I spent four hours wearing the RIG 500 Pro and I didn’t notice any discomfort around the head. The cushioned ear cups feel as if my ears are being cradled by a loving angel. The soft cushions never became a ‘vice’ after a couple of hours. I also didn’t have to adjust the ear cups to allow my ears to ‘breathe’ after a few hours. And the sound is amazing. I play all kinds of games from Call Of Duty, Fornite to Role Playing Games and action games like The Witcher 3 and Batman Arkham games. Each one of these games was delivered in clear and crisp sounds. In fact, during The Witcher 3, I realized that there were sounds that I hadn’t heard with my previous headset. This offered a new kind of immersion as a gamer. The design of the RIG 500 Pro is very ‘futuristic industrial’. The ear cups can be adjusted by popping them out of their slot and then snapping them into your preferred size space. They don’t feel like they are going to fall apart. The top of the headset is a dual headband. One is a honeycomb fabric design that rests on your head while the other is the frame of the headset that never rests on your skull which is probably why I didn’t feel that digging discomfort like I had with my others. The wire that plugs into the PS4 controller is a decent length and I haven’t had any issues of accidental pulls with it so far. The volume dial is fluid and allows you to lock the sound to a maximum or off position. If you have one of the newer Xbox One controllers with a headphone jack, this RIG 500 Pro will plug into it. However, when it comes to mic monitoring aka voice feedback, I wasn’t loving the experience. Mic monitoring allows the gamer to talk to a party or talk to the streaming audience without having to be loud because he or she can hear their own voice through the headset. The RIG 500 Pro doesn’t offer that which seems confusing when other headsets offer that feature. When it comes to comfort and sound, the RIG 500 Pro has the player covered. Awesome design, fantastic comfort, and great sound. All of these provide immersive gaming experiences.

This headset isn't completely wired/wireless. Unlike some of the older headphones with 15ft long cables that plug into the USB port, this one isn't like that. The only part of the headset that's wired is from the headset to the controller. Power is drawn from the controller so there is going to be a little less play time as a result. The design of the headset is pretty cool looking. It's pretty lightweight so it's not too noticeable when playing for a few hours. Sound is surprisingly good. still undecided if it's soundwhoring good quality but playing Destiny 2, I can easily hear footsteps, rustling and water drops. I previously used the Sony Gold wireless headset and these definitely sound better than those. Can't quite compare it Astros or Turtle Beach headset since I haven't used them in awhile. Nothing bad to say about these but a couple annoyances with this headset are; The adjustable headband is comfortable however for people with big heads, like me, this isn't quite as comfortable as I would like. The frame seems a tad narrow at the top for my tastes. You'll definitely get some headphone hair with this headset. I managed to get the headset on comfortably however it's pretty snug. Since the volume control is plugged into the controller, the rotary knob for the volume is easily manipulated so you'll probably increase/decrease volume accidentally quite a few times while playing. On the upside, since you don't have the charge this headset, it's a big plus for me since I'm always forgetting to charge my headset. They look good and they have quite good sound quality. They're also relatively inexpensive compared to other more popular brands out there.

Good PS4 headset, but not multi-purpose.

First off, Plantronics makes a headset called the Rig 500 Pro, not to be confused with this headset, the Rig 500 Pro HS. The Rig 500 Pro has a metal top band and a standard 3.5mm cable with inline volume control. This model being reviewed, the HS, is all plastic and features the new "Game Audio Dial", which is a volume knob in a molded plastic connector that is designed to connect only to a PS4 controller. This isn't designed to be used with PC or XBox One. There is no other cable included, but if you buy or have another, then you could use this with something other than PS4. The headset is fairly light weight and is comfortable to use. The all plastic design does have a cheap feel to it and I'm not sure how durable this would be long term. The ear cups are not quite large enough to fit larger ears as "over-ear" and would probably be considered more of on-ear. Compared to the Logitech G-Pro headset, the G-Pro has larger over-ear cups and a traditional adjustable band. The G-Pro seems more sturdy and a bit better build quality, although they are heavier. Sound wise the Rig 500 Pro HS sound very clear and balanced. Nothing jumps out as sounding overly bad or good. To my ears, they had a bit more detail, depth and bass than the G-Pro. They don't isolate background noise quite as well as the G-Pro design. Overall, this is a good headset for the intermediate price. They have a detachable connection cord and detachable mic, which you usually don't find with less expensive, lower quality headsets. The mic has the flip-up to mute design, which I'm not overly wild about. Mic quality from those I asked to compare as I switched back and forth between these and the G-Pro seemed very similar and both had good clarity. I would recommend these to somebody wanting a solid headset at a price that won't break the bank. If somebody had more than just the PS4 to play games on, I would recommend the Rig 500 Pro over these due to the universal connection. The "Game Audio Dial" is kind of a neat option, but it comes at the expense of making these system specific, which I feel is a poor trade-off.

What's in the box ----------------- 1. Headset Frame 2. Stereo earcups with self-adjusting headband 3. Removable Mic Boom 4. Audo cable with volume dial 5. Adapter for DUALSHOCK wireless controller Pros ---- 1. The audio cable goes in flush into the controller and the volume controller is right on the cable which is great. 2. Mic is removable! this is a great option when you want to use the headset to just listen music 3. Earcups are really comfortable, does not cause fatigue to your ears when you use for a long time. 4. Nice metal headband with a supporting band, very durable 5. Height adjustable ear cups. Cons ---- 1. Have a bass boost button like the sony bluetooth ones? Review ------ I am a gamer but not really regular, i would say once in a week. I got this headset to test out playing at night and not wantoing to wake anybody up with the rumble of the home theater and the 5.1 sound. I have a PS4 connected to a Onkyo Home theater system with tower speakers. The setup was easy, the headset comes fully assembled and only thing you need to do is to adjust it to fit you. The adjustment is a little different here as you need to remove the cups and adjust the height. I have a big head and i found it comfortable and snug. The headphone frame looks to be made of metal and i think it is going to be very durable. The headphone jack (3.5mm) plugs right into the controller. Volumne knob is on the cable itself instead of the headphone which makes it easier to adjust the volume easily while playing. The Mic is removable which is good. The mic mutes if you push it up and it is unmuted if it is down. i think this is a good innovative feature instead of a mute button which you may need to search for. Now for the sound, i think it has as great soundstage. I could hear the multi dimensional sound as it should be on a surround sound. I normally play shooter games and if the bombs go out on the side, the headphones would make you feel as such. I think it keeps you engaged. Mic is very clear. I have an accent and others had not issues following me. I also tested with music. Although it does not have the bass like the Sony or beats, the music comes out crystal clear. The feature of removable mic is great because you can use it like a regular headphone for listening to music. Overall, i recommend the product with a 5*

Great Sound, Great Price, OK Fit for large heads

Let's just get into the most important thing: Sound. Quite good! They aren't super bass heavy which is nice and the sound quality is crisp overall. Sound separation was good as well and you could hear things from different locations quite precisely. However, volume seemed to be slightly lower than other headsets that I own. Not quiet but just noticed that I the loud end of the range wasn't quite as loud as others. But, my favorite feature on this headset is the volume knob at the connection to the PS4 controller. So awesome! The smartly designed rubber gasket that conforms to the curve on the PS4 controller prevents the 3.5mm audio jack from rotating when you turn the volume knob. Smart. And the knob itself is stiff and has some resistance so there is little change of accidentally changing volume brushing up against the controller or something like that. The other end of the detachable cable is a right-angle which allows it to rotate on the headset and the cable length is just about right since it's going to be plugged in to your controller. The flip-up/down microphone was cool with muting the mic when you flip it up. Simple and elegant solution without any additional buttons. Nice. Fit: The cushioned headband is extremely comfortable and the cushioned earcups are as well. However, after adjusting the headset to it's largest configuration, it flared out slightly on my 59cm circumference head. It's not uncomfortable by any means and doesn't let in any outside sound, but just note that it may not fit perfectly for someone with a large head like myself. Overall, for the money, these are great. Nice construction, maybe a little loud on the design with the tons of angles and stuff, but a solid buy for a PS4 owner. One last thing: Although these are marketed as a PS4 headset, you can use these with any device that has a 3.5mm audio jack. The contoured rubber gasket is removable and then you can use these with other audio devices.

    Must Have For Gaming

If you’re looking for a decently priced gaming headset without having to resort to eBay, then this is a must. Initial thoughts out of the box were positive. The feel, comfort and volume of this headset are great. It doesn’t have a built in base, but it really didn’t bother me. Mic: Durable, flexible and plugs into the headset. It seems more durable in design compared to my more expensive headset. It’s pretty cool because you can turn it on/off simply by moving it up and down. Chatting was pretty good, I tested it out with COD and my team members seemed to hear me just fine. Plug/Wire: It goes directly into the PS4 controller. It may seem bulky into the control, but you can adjust the volume turning a knob at the point where it goes in. Turning the knob left/right adjusts the volume. The wiring is thin and light weight. I’m sure some fellow gamers prefer wireless, but the wire didn’t interfere with my gaming. It’s lightweight, bendable and a good length. Sound Quality: I’m very pleased with the quality of sound for the cost of these headphones. I was able to hear some greater details that I normally didn’t catch. Comfort: I wear glasses and I’m pleased to say this headset didn’t feel uncomfortable. There’s a band that helps keep a great fit. I have larger sized head and it didn’t make the headphones feel uncomfortable. Overall this is a great gaming headset for this price. I strongly recommend!

I’m incredibly picky when it comes to headsets because I often have issues with them causing inner ear pain for one reason or another. I also have a fairly large head, so it can be difficult to find something that fits nicely and doesn’t bother my ears. While this headset is a little bit snug for my melon, the way they did the ear cups with part of them being a cloth material is great. I can wear these for a couple of hours without them feeling like they’re suction cupped to my ears or lighting them on fire. I’d love if they had one looser setting, but overall the fit and feel is great. On the sound spectrum I would love a bit more low end oomph, but this set probably conjures up one of the best “clean” soundscapes I’ve heard in a gaming headset. It never ceases to amaze me how detailed game environments can be. Sound location also seems quite good as well. Particularly if you make sure your in game audio options are appropriately set. These aren’t surround sound and as such you’ll want to make sure the options are set to stereo. All in all, I’m satisfied with these. If I had to justify only a 4 star rating I’d say I would have loved them to be a tiny bit more loose and a touch more prominent on the low end. As they are, however, they are good - maybe even great. They just aren’t quite perfect for me. Super close though. Don’t hesitate to buy.

This headset is amazing! The first thing that catches your eye, is how slick the headset looks. It has a very unique design to it, and it works. That being said, the 500 Pro HS is very comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. The headset is very light weight, yet it fits snug to your head. The company knew what they were doing when they designed these headphones. The ear pieces are constructed of leather, but has a piece of cloth attached to the part that cups your ear, to eliminate sweat build up. The mic is a nice feature too. Instead of a mute button, you just raise the mic up to mute it, and lower to talk. Another nice feature, the volume knob thats attached to the 3.5mm jack. This makes it very easy to raise and lower the volume. The sound on the Rig 500 Pro HS is incredible. You can hear everything around you, as well as behind you. It has a very good 3D audio feel that it utilizes, which really puts you right in the game. Aside from gaming, I decided to plug these into my iPad Pro to test out music...Needless to say, these sound great for music as well. The volume is very crisp and clear, and the bass is just deep enough, that it doesn't cause discomfort of distortion. Overall, I would say the 500 Pro HS is a fantastic headset, for gamers looking to step up their gaming experience, as well as get a good audio experience. So far I haven't found any cons on this unit yet, so I would definitely recommend them.

    Good Gaming Headset, Great Support

An outside of normal review for the Plantronics RIG 500 Gaming Headset for the PS4 as my original unit was faulty (bad audio connector, so only getting mono). Rather than return to BestBuy I ended up using the Plantronics warranty as the RIG 500 has 12 month coverage. Positive. Plantronics online support (twitter) is fantastic and after registering and returning (at my cost) a new headset arrived. This is a serious looking gaming headset. Everything snaps, clicks, and locks into place in solid industrial way. It's not a headset that you would use for dual use (i.e. not as a phone headset on the bus) as it screams gaming. Audio quality is great, microphone is solid and you can rotate it to mute. The audio cable has a volume control which is wonderful. As usually that's my pain point with gaming headsets. You're stuck at one volume and can't adjust audio at all. Not so with the RIG 500 where the little volume dial giving you the control you need. Random aside, there's a little rubber nub on the headphone jack that helps the RIG 500 stay flush with your PS4 controller. The rubber nub can be removed, so I am guessing you could use it as a headset elsewhere but I didn't want to test. Would have been 5 stars if it was perfect out of the box and didn't have to replace. 4 stars because replacement was easy, great support and build quality is otherwise great, I just got unlucky.

I love how lightweight and comfortable these are. They have a self adjusting strap that makes it easy for a family to share these. Both my boys play the ps4, and we can all just grab this headset and put it on with no monkeying around with adjustments ( my boys are 9 and 16). Plus it also lets you reposition the earpieces on the frame to accommodate larger heads or very small ones too. This unit comes with the ps4 rubber adapter on the audio jack. The same headset is sold for the xbox with a different rubber adapter. Which is awesome if you have both systems The sound quality is just as good as the ps4 gold headset. I had to raise my ps4 audio volume in the setting to make it just slightly louder. But the volume knob on the audio jack works great, and it's in a very convenient location. I can easily just run my thumb past it while playing and hardly miss a thing. The mic works great, other players say yhey can hear me loud and clear! Muting is super easy by just raising the mic. However it can be removed also, if you don't ever chat. My only complaint here is a small missing feature , there is no adjustment for mixing the balance of audio between chat and game sounds. But I think this can also be adjusted in the console settings, so not that big of a deal. overall great sound, clear mic, and excellent comfort

So I've been an avid gamer since Atari days. Long before there were headsets or multiplayer or first person shooters haha The ability to hear your opponents footsteps as they go around you in a game is crucial and can mean the difference between getting the kill or being killed. This set has really nice sound. It's very lightweight and comfortable to wear if you wanna for an extended gaming session. It's powered by plugging into your controller which is both a pro and con.. no long wires to tangle with but at the same time it's going to shorten your playtime of your controller unless you have a 2nd or spare controller. I have been used to the internal mics of Sony headsets so I don't particularly like the boom mic that comes with this set .For the price though it's a nice step up from the included ear piece and mic. And the build quality is definitely made for comfort. Overall I would recommend this for an avid gamer or those playing fps shooters.

This headset Really surprised me for what you are getting in this price range. The only reason I did not give these a 5 star review was because of overall quality. First thing I was not impressed by was the build quality. These headphones look awesome but as soon as you touch them they feel very cheap. They are made entirely out of plastic. This is also a partial pro though because they are lightweight and this is helpful when wearing them for long periods of time. The other con is the accessories. It only came with the headset, mic, and one cable to plug them into your headphones. It would have been nice if a carrying case was included but it was not. Those are really the only negative things. These headphones were extremely comfortable compared to others I have used. In addition, the sound quality was much better than others in the price range. There is a volume knob built into the chord which is easy to adjust quickly while playing games. Although I would recommend these to most people looking for a cheaper headset, I would caution that the build quality is not the best and I am not sure long turn how durable they will be.

Super happy with this headset, with my first reaction being "wow, these fit and feel great.". I recently purchased a PS4 to add to the gaming portfolio, so when I opened the "included" ear piece for voice chat I realized I needed something more substantial (and cost effective). Needless to say this headset fit that bill perfectly, where I have a larger head than most, I struggled with a set of Turtle Beach Elite 800's on the Xbox One and can't keep them on for long spurts of gaming. The Rig 500's are lightweight and extremely comfortable on my head. Likes: -No power required, just the mini jack connection to the PS4 controller -Lightweight, soft cushion on ear pieces which also provide a good level of noise cancelling. -Sturdy AND flexible microphone that locks into place both in an up position when not in use and down position when in use (this is also how the microphone is muted). -Simple to use volume control right on the jack connecting to the PS4 controller, easy to adjust volume. -Sound quality is great, clear, undistorted sounds when playing FPS. Very immersive when playing No Mans Sky. Dislikes: -None yet! Highly recommend!!
