The sound from it is fair to pretty good, and certainly good enough for conversations. I have three problems with it: 1) When turning on, the message about battery life interrupts calls so that you lose some of your conversation - very annoying 2) the earpiece is very thick and hard to make it work comfortably with sunglasses or glasses 3) The ear tip doesn't quite fit. Not sure how to suggest a fix here - maybe a little softer tip? Once you get it in place it's ok, but it doesn't seem to go into place very well. the other tips included with the headset don't look like they help resolve this

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on our Voyager 5220 Headset. We're sorry to hear you were not able to find a comfortable fit even after trying all of the included ear tip sizes. Using the foam cover might also help to adjust the fit. These headsets are designed to fit the vast majority of ear shapes and sizes; however, we do know that one size may not fit all. We thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will forward this to our Product Development team as we appreciate feedback based on customer use to create the best possible products. This review is way over due. I purchased this blue tooth over 1 year ago and I had problems with this product. Right now the blue tooth is connecting and disconnecting from the phone which I sometimes have to hold the phone in my hand to keep a steady connection. The device is constantly falling out of my ear. This model people can still hear background noise which I thought for the price it has noise cancelation built in. I had a older version don't have the model number but it seems like it was much better than this model. I don't see how four or five stars can be given for this product. No I would not recommend this product. I have to start all over again for my search of a reliable blue tooth.

Thank you for your honest review on our Voyager 5220, we are sorry to hear you're experiencing trouble with your unit.

In order to troubleshoot connectivity or audio issues you might want to try resetting the Bluetooth connection between your phone and headset to see if that helps the issue. To do so:
      1. Delete the headset from your cell phone's list of paired devices.
      2. Once deleted, power your phone completely off, then power it back on. This resets the Bluetooth stack in the Bluetooth software on the phone.
      3. Re-pair the headset with your phone. If this does not fix your issue, we suggest pairing the headset to another cell phone as a test.

If the issue is not present on the second phone, then the problem may be with the first phone, rather than the headset. If the issue exists on the second phone as well, you will need to replace the headset. Please don't hesitate to contact our customer care group at www.plantronics.com/support if you require assistance. Plantronics

I find this headset just so so, for one the max volume on it is not that loud. I have a hard time hearing the other person on the other end when there is noise in the background. Though the party on the other end never complain that they can't hear me. When there's not that much noise in the background I could hear them good, just wished the volume could be a little louder. Second the information on the box says it has 7 hours of talk time but it's actually like 6 maybe even 5 if your talking on the phone. I suggest you get the charging case if your always on the phone. Comfort while wearing it is pretty good, I don't even feel it sometimes. Although I feel a bit discomfort when I'm wearing sunglasses. Overall just so so.

Thank you for your honest review and feedback on our Voyager 5200 series Bluetooth headset.

In order to get the best possible audio quality and volume on your end please try every size of included gel ear tip, sometimes you might need to use a different size depending on the ear you're wearing the headset on.

If the volume is still not enough, please try adjusting your headset and phone volume while you're in a call, since most phones have different volume levels for media, notifications and call volumes.

    skips during music playback

I've been using Plantronics headsets for decades - both wired and bluetooth versions. The first, a Discovery 975 didn't support AD2P so you couldn't listen to music or audiobooks. This one skips (dead air) during music playback. Geez. At first I thought it was fault in the digital stream, then I thought it was a problem with the device I had my music library stored on. Nope. It's in the headset. Plantronics' website has info on another device (non-bluetooth) that skips during music playback but states that it shouldn't occur with an A2DP bluetooth device. This is disappointing for a $130 headset. I'm planning to return it - I hope it's not a problem with the series or I'll be returning the charger too.

I tried multiple and honestly none of them have been comfortable. They either give me a earache, don't stay in the ear, or are hard to hear on. But with this Bluetooth I really haven't had to many complaints. It is very lightweight and volume is pretty good. The ear piece does feel like it's going to out of my ear so I am constantly pushing it back in. As for battery life it's pretty much the same as the rest of them, short.

I have used many different styles and models of headsets for talking on the telephone without holding the phone to my ear. After may years of corded and Bluetooth styles, the Voyager 5220 Bluetooth Headset has proven itself head and shoulders above the rest. Unequaled noise cancelling and clarity along with a superior battery life makes me buy this over and over. Multitasking, working in the yard, bicycling is effortless. It is so comfortable to wear, I forget I'm wearing it until the phone rings!

This is the very best Bluetooth headset on the market today. As a salesman rep I have tried every on headset on the market including jawbone and none of them compare it to the plantronic. My customers can hear me and I can hear them. I don't sound like I am in a echo chamber. I am not asking them to repeat what they said. It just works like it should. It is so nice to have a product that works like its suppose to. You may think it is a little pricey, but after you buy 3 or 4 cheaper ones that your not happy with. You have now just spent more than if you would have bought this in the first place. If you want the best headset you will buy the plantronics headset. And you will be happy you did.

For years I have been a fan of the Jawbone BT headsets, so when my last one finally died and because Jawbone no longer makes BT headsets, I was forced to find a new brand. After thoroughly researching several brands I decided to give the Plantronics Voyager 5220 a shot. I could not be happier with my decision. The sound quality is equal or better than my Jawbone's and it easily pairs to both my phone and my VoIP desk phone at work at the same time allowing me to always work hands free. I am in outside B2B sales so I am on the phone constantly so that feature has been extremely useful. If, like me you have been a Jawbone fan in the past and are looking for a replacement, look no further, you found it!

I've used the Voyager Pro HD, the Voyager Legend and now the Voager 5220. And each model keeps getting better! The built-in speech is superior to the Voyager Legend. The battery life is good. The sound quality is great and the BIGGEST improvements are; 1. The wind/noise cancelling works way better than the previous Voyager Legend. 2. It has a microUSB connector! So even if you lose or misplace the proprietary cord, you can still recharge and use the headset!

I've had Plantronics Bluetooth products for years. This earpiece surpassed my expectations on quality and performance not only from my side, but the people I spoke to mentioned how clear I sounded using my cell phone. I explained my Bluetooth purchase and they are amazed. I also enjoy the automatic switching between taking it off and putting it on causing the signal to switch between the handset and headset and handset. It also allows me to access Cortana directly, and allows me to answer or reject calls by responding to it when it asks me to answer or reject the call. I also can hear my text messages the same way or can respond to the text message with no hands! Great for when driving!

This sound and battery life of this earpiece are great. The earpiece however, is extremely uncomfortable! The piece that goes over the ear is bulky and heavy. The piece that is supposed to fit in the ear does not no matter which of the sizes I use. The round shape does not fit in my ear and I am constantly adjusting it just to keep it on my head. It doesn't feel good on and it doesn't fit well. I tried to give it a chance but I will be returning it today and getting a different earpiece.

Thank you for your review, however we are sorry to hear about your experience. We are sorry to hear you were not able to find a comfortable and secure fit even after trying all of the included ear tip sizes. These headsets are designed to fit the vast majority of ear shapes and sizes; however, we do know that one size may not fit all and if you find the product too uncomfortable for normal use we strongly recommend that you consider using a headset with a different wearing style. Quite a few folks have stated this is better than the Legend, which is currently half the price. I'm baffled as to how. Maybe people never updated their Legend to put it into Wideband (HD-Audio) mode? I've left myself voicemail using the 5220 and the Legend both in quiet environments and in very loud environments, including wind. The results are the same. Like I can't tell which is which unless I look at the timestamp. The only gains are firmware updates using your phone and plantronics hub and USB charging. I don't think those two are worth twice the current price. Once the supply of Legends gets cleaned out and prices go back up, I'd say it is worth $10 more than the Legend for the USB connector.

I have had my 5220 for about 2 months now and feel very good about this purchase. Call clarity is excellent and ease of use is also very good. I would give it 5 points if it was just a little smaller but had the Jawbone Era prior to this and will tell you that the 5220 has much better call clarity, both inside and outside in the wind. The 5220 also has a nice battery life and I can easily make it through an entire day and then some with a single charge. I would recommend the charging case if you travel. It keeps the unit safe inside the hard plastic case and allows it to recharge while in the case. Definitely worth the extra $40 or so. I still think that this is the best bluetooth device available.

Love it! It can sit behind either ear, and is very comfortable. Sounds good (I don't think anything will sound as good as regular earbuds or headphones -- but it's not tinny or muffled) and I love that I can wear it all day without noticing. It announces incoming calls (by name, if it's from someone in my contact list), and I can either answer or ignore it just by saying "answer" or "ignore". I can put your phone in my pocket and answer it handsfree while driving or walking my dogs. Yes, there are cheaper ear pieces (and I've had a few), but the Voyager 5220 has them beat for comfort and voice control.

    Fantastic earpiece but aesthetically unpleasing

This earpieces clarity is exceptional. The noise cancellation from outside distractions also helps me a lot, whether on a business or personal call. I occasionally listen to music on it, as well. Although I don't think this device is specifically made for that type of market, I find it a nice plus that I can listen to music with relative clarity, if I want to. The only drawback is the microphone, which is also probably the reason for the clarity. The microphone is long and very ugly. I often get comments about "have you reached Captain Kirk yet?".... funny, I know. But the benefits and need for this device outweigh concerns I have over the aesthetics

First off, with ANY expensive electronic, purchase a warranty. Questionable QC checks will sometimes render you a bad product. The first Plantronics Bluetooth I bought was a dud, and didn’t do half the things advertised on the box. Firmware update didn’t help; I exchanged it for another. The second Bluetooth /works/ as it should. It announces who’s calling, by name (provided you have the the caller’s name saved in your phone already) otherwise it’ll just say “incoming call”. Also love the ‘answer/ignore’ feature. Well constructed and so far I have absolutely no complaints. It’s been over five months of ownership. Will update if any issues arise.

The voice / sound quality and the mic pickup of my voice is really good. The issue I have is keeping it connected to my iPhone7. I've installed the manufacture app on my PC and connected the device to be sure its firmware is current, yet, it struggles to stay connected or will be connected when I start a call and drops the Bluetooth connection w/o any indication other than silence. I've deleted the connection and then reconnected to the phone several times, updated the phone iOS with marginal improvement. I've downloaded the manufacture's app on my iPhone and keep it running constantly which has helped, but, overall I expected better from this device based upon my prepurchase research..

This might indicate the call audio is switching back to your phone automatically. In order to prevent this you can set your iPhone's call audio routing to headset and disable your headset's wearing sensor (master) through our Hub app for iOS. I have been using the Voyager for more than 4 years, physically wearing out 2. When I saw the new 5200, I expected abs upgrade. Instead I have been through 2 in six months. First one stopped talking and wouldn't stay connected. Thought it was an issue with the firmware upgrade and went back to Bedtbuy. They replaced it and now this one is doing the same thing, even without the upgrade to the firmware. Also randomly make the noise as if it's disconnecting, but you don't know if it did or didn't for about 5 seconds. Not nearly as reliable as the Voyager UC. I do like the new rechargeable case because it has a desktop holder and the new power levels are easily read for case and headset.

I've owned several of these headset models over the years and I have tried similar models from other vendors. However, I keep coming back to this vendor. They last the longest and are good quality. I use mine day in/out for work and personal calls. One strong recommendation I have is to buy the GSP insurance on these type of devices. They do wear out a deal getting a 2yr replacement saved me a few hundred dollars over the life time. Even if the oder does not exist anymore you can trade for a comparable price product form the same vendor or different vendor. You will want to renew the GSP which is typically under $20 and you another 2 years.

Pro: -- Feels comfortable on my ear. -- Easy to use. -- Easy to install and connect to my fault. -- 6 to 7 hours battery life. -- I have less to worry for parts to break around the ear. Con: -- Recent Firmware update made the earpiece disconnect from my phone at random times as if it's going to sleep. -- Ear piece that goes into the ear irritates my ear after long use. -- I wish the volume was louder. Max volume is still a little soft. -- I don't think it has a siris function where you can ask it to do something or call someone through your iPhone. If you hold it call button, it will recall your last call. -- Range is small if I step away from my phone.
