Looks pretty, but didn't really improve my internet connection from WiFi, which is the reason I purchased it in the first place.

Know your equipment and what it can do. Internet service providers and their services are only as good as the equipment (PC, Laptop, etc.) you are using. I own three laptops, one macbook pro, one macbook air and one dell (windows). Both Apple laptops don't have ethernet port, making my high speed internet pointless on these devices. This simple adapter changed all that, my laptop internet speed doubled. Also, several online reviews highly recommend linking computers on your home network using ethernet cables because of their incredible data transfer capabilities. To work on a mac, you have to download the drivers but it was easy to install and took about a minute. Initially, when I began researching USB to ethernet adapters, I found many of them suffered from poor performance, either slow transfer rates, despite gigabit connectivity, overheating, and an overall sense of unreliability. From that, I knew I wanted a few things: 1. A USB 3.0 adapter, to achieve gigabit 2. An adapter sold or supported by a reputable company 3. Something with it's own processor, so it's not sapping off mine. Platinum basically sells cables for specialized uses. If you need an HDMI to USB cable, they'd likely have it. They're very good at what they do, and I knew this would be a good product just by the brand name. I've used it now for a few days, on a regular basis, and have had zero issue. It's actually saved me a few times, when I needed to do some advanced troubleshooting, packet sniffing, or bridging connections. It gets warm, but not hot. Transfer speeds are consistent, even over USB 2. Admittedly, I haven't done any bench-marking to provide real performance statistics, but I can tell you that there was an immediate speed increase in backups that I perform across my gigabit network to my server. In my estimation, the speed has more than doubled. That's good enough for me. It is so rare these days that a product just works and does what the seller/manufacturer states it will do. I've used other similar products and this is one of the many that work and work well. It's a simple design, but it gets the job done. As mentioned above, I've used it on 3 different devices, it has worked without a hitch every time. You have it up and running in a very small amount of time and it delivers rock solid speeds. The adapter is small, light, and easy to have in your laptop bag.Go ahead; pick you up one today & enjoy better speeds than wireless while at home or wherever; You Will Thank Me

Simple and Strong. All the current generation laptops come with USB port only no more ethernet ports. Even these days many of Security devices coming with USB ports where etherport is needed, and this is the perfect solution for direct wired internet connection. I tested the speed, just perfect, it delivers the speed as is, no drops. I really liked it and it is very useful. I tested this on mac, surface pro, leveno, all worked great. I will recommend this product, You will not regret.

The Platinum USB 3.0 to Ethernet Adapter works great and is so easy to use. There is practically no installation, no pop-ups, etc.—just plug and play. I plugged my ethernet into the Platinum adapter and the other end of the adapter into my USB port on both my Lenovo and Dell laptops. After turning the Wi-Fi off, the connections continued as wired and I was immediately able to surf the internet with greater consistency and speed during both test. The wired connection made my work seem smoother and faster as if I were on the desktop. The laptops are my mobile devices that go back and forth to my office and home office, so sometimes it is much easier not to transfer work to the desktops in order to complete what I was working on that day in the field. This adapter has already become a great asset to my briefcase. I can also see an advantage to this product when traveling if the accommodations allow for wired internet access. Several times I have needed to connect to the internet and have had a difficult time connecting to my own mobile hotspots. I don’t connect to open networks for security reasons, but a wired connection would be safer. The product is made very well and seems to be sturdy. There is nothing more to say except --it works great! It looks simple and is light, but it has a mighty function that is often needed and very useful.

This is excellent for ultra books obviously due to their lack of an ethernet port, however, the software config is already in the PC. The quality of construction, functionality and even the look is appealing. This gives me the edge I need when dowloading Larger files or programs at the 1gig connection.

In my work as a network guy, I occasionally need to test wired network connections. All of our laptops these days are wireless only, so having an adapter like this is a must. I've even had to use it at home when troubleshooting an ISP problem because they always want you to plug directly into their modem/radio to rule out any home network/wifi issues. With this, I can easily use my laptop to plug in and test. This adapter seems to be very sturdy (metal) with a sturdy cord on it. I'm confident I can throw this in my backpack and not worry that it's going to get broken. It has the typical status lights on either side of the RJ-45 which is nice. (Some have lights on the side of the adapter which isn't always the most convenient to see.) It also worked with no driver problems on the few Win 10 machines that I've tested with--just plugged it in and it worked. Most importantly, I've not had any problems with it linking up at the full 1 Gbps.

A solid solution for gigabit connectivity

I put the Platinum USB 3.0-to-gigabit Ethernet Adapter through some pretty extensive testing using both my Samsung laptop and my Dell desktop. My Samsung laptop, for clarity, only has USB type C ports for charging and connectivity; there are no standard or 3.0 USB ports. As such, a USB type C port is not compatible with the Platinum’s USB end. In order to test the Platinum on the laptop, I used a USB converter to convert the Platinum to a USB type C end and to plug it into the laptop’s USB C port. I turned off the laptop’s Wi-Fi, then ran an Ethernet cable from my home router to the Platinum’s Ethernet adapter. Once connected and after just a few seconds, my laptop was communicating in a wired capacity to my network. And the speed was blazing! For my second test, I used my Dell desktop. While the Dell has Wi-Fi capabilities, I’ve had it communicating to my network primarily by Ethernet cable. To test the Platinum’s adapter, I disconnected the wired Ethernet cable from the Dell’s integrated network port and plugged it directly into the Platinum adapter. I plugged the Platinum’s USB cable end into one of my desktop’s 3.0 USB ports, and gave the desktop a few seconds to recognize the new network connection. And before I could blink, the Dell was connected by wire to our network. Honestly, it couldn’t be easier! From a speed perspective, I couldn’t see any difference between using the desktop’s integrated gigabit Ethernet port and the Platinum Ethernet Adapter. Both provided blazing speeds. This adapter has a lifetime limited warranty that covers defects in materials and workmanship. When a dedicated wired network connection is required, this Platinum adapter is a solid choice.

I tried using this USB ethernet adapter on my workstation in a 3.0 port and the transfer speeds were great, I ran some speed tests and they all came back around the same as the built in GB ethernet on the workstation, in some cases slightly quicker. After doing a 9GB transfer the adapter was a little warm to the touch but it did not throttle down. This would be great for trouble shooting a bad port or for a laptop if wifi is not available. The only negative I have is on the size, it's rather large, over 2" in length. Where as a similar type that came with my laptop is only 1.5" long. The construction feels premium with good strain relief and feel. Its not a cheap knockoff looking product but seems to be high quality.

Fast Ethernet connection to USB port!

To say this adapter is great, is an understatement. I’ve been having issues with my ethernet cable coming out of the port on my Dell 17” Inspiron Laptop. The Platinum USB 3.0 to Ethernet Adapter provides an excellent and fast wired connection. Setup is easy. Just plug in the ethernet cable to the Platinum USB 3.0 adapter connector, inset the USB to any 3.0 USB port on the laptop or desktop and it’s ready to use. You may have to reboot your modem/router then reboot your Desktop/Laptop for it to connect properly to the Ethernet. The Platinum USB 3.0 to Ethernet Adapter is solidly built and the USB and ethernet connections at nice and snug. The system requirements are Windows 8.1 to 10, MAC OS 10.9 to 10.14, Linux Kernel vr 3.14 + 5.0. The Platinum USB 3.0 Ethernet Adapter and the USB plug are both metal and it’s about 6” long in total. The wire between the adapter and the USB plug is very strong yet flexible. I’ve been testing the Platinum 3.0 USB Adapter for several days now and am extremely pleased. The download and upload speeds on my Dell 17” Inspiron laptop has increased dramatically as opposed to my wireless connection. My download speed is now approximately 435mbps and upload speed is approximately 50.5mbps, a 25-30% speed increase overall. Speeds will vary depending upon your internet provider, but I’m very pleased with the higher speeds. Especially when downloading large files and uploading high resolution photos to my laptop. This is perfect for any laptop or desktop. It’s also perfect for laptops without any ethernet port in that it can be converted to Wired Ethernet to increase download and upload speeds dramatically. I recommend the Platinum USB 3.0 Ethernet Adapter for anyone with or without an ethernet port.

With fewer and fewer laptops, Chromebooks and tablets coming with built-in Ethernet plugs as standard equipment, this is a must-have adapter if you want to maximize your Internet speed. This USB 3.0 to Ethernet adapter can provide speeds up to 1 Gigabit, which makes for faster downloading and streaming. This is a solidly-built unit, with an anodized aluminum housing which should provide for a long life. And the cable is a bit longer than other adapter cables I've used, and I prefer longer. Bottom Line: A sleek, handy adapter that you can use at home AND on the road to take advantage of higher Ethernet speeds. Definitely a keeper.

Not really a whole to say about the device. Got it to use in case I ever need to connect a laptop or other device. Sadly there's not a lot I have that can tax a gigbit connection. I did test it on the gigbit network at my work and it had no problems hitting speed or maintaining said speeds. If you're in the market for a USB to Ethernet adapter that's small and doesn't take up much space, this should definitely fulfill the need.
