Being a avid gamer I pre-ordered the PS4 back in Feb of 2013 to make sure I would have one on launch day. Opening the box, the new design of the system does not disappoint. I love the parallelogram shape to the console and the overall size makes it easy to fit in almost any entertainment unit. Upon turning the system on I noticed how quiet it runs even after hours of use. The UI has also been redesigned making everything much easier to find especially when compared to the clunky UI the previous PS3 had. The graphical power can really be seen in games like Assassins Creed 4 and Killzone. The new controller fits even more comfortably in my hands and has a few new feature like better triggers, a touchpad, speaker, and an indicator light to let you know which player you are. You'll really get to test these features with the new Playroom which is a tech demo of sorts which shows off a lot of these new features. My only gripes with the system currently are its lack of external USB support which I assume is Sony's effort to curb pirating but I feel it a bit of of miss for them. Also, although I know there's a planned streaming service for PS1-PS3 games coming up, currently it's not backwards compatible so hold onto all your old PS3 titles. Overall I feel that the PS4 has had a great console launch but I feel there are just a couple small things lacking which should be able to be fixed with patches in the future.

I've always been open to both Sony and Microsoft for consoles, so know that this review is not biased. I am very happy with my PS4 purchase. I love the performance of the console, from gaming to using features like the store. The cooling of the console was really well thought too, you can tell how they thought about optimal cooling when you look at the case. For me this console delivers the gaming I want at the smooth frame rate I'd enjoy. But it also has many of the media streaming services I like. 500GB is a very generous capacity to start out at, but know that they made it easy to upgrade the hard drive if you so desire. My cousin upgraded his PS4 with a HDD+SDD combo drive and told me the loading and boot performance with the new drive is awesome. You have to appreciate that they allow you to easily upgrade the HDD in the console. The controllers are new, but still keep the same great feeling as their predecessors. I love the touch pad, and I also love the headphone jack that is build into the controller for those late night gaming sessions or when your playing a Co-Op game with someone over the network. There are many games to play on the console now, and many amazing games coming up soon. If your thinking about purchasing this console, I'd say it is a good time to get one!

This is the console everyone should buy. Quiet, fast, easy to use, intuitively designed, and improved in every way over the ps3. The OS is extremely fast unlike the cluttered and laggy ps3 xmb. The controllers are redesigned and are incredible. Best I have ever used. PSN is better than ever and you get a lot of free stuff with playstation plus. So the game library isn't quite there yet. It just launched. Killzone is a good launch exclusive and resogun on PSN is a HUGE boon. Even warframe is pretty cool and its free as well as resogun and blacklight retribution. 4 good titles as well as all the 3rd party games. Next year a ton is coming out on the PS4 that make it the console to have. At 400 bucks its priced at a sweet spot and it really is a fantastic piece of machinery.

The Playstation 4 does everything the PS3 did but much better! The graphics are more stunning, the interface is more beautiful, the limits are boundless. The system does need more high quality games, but so does any new gaming system when it first comes out and is getting established. 2015 is looking to be a great year for gaming!

Because I'll most likely be picking up both consoles, it really doesn't matter to me which console has what specific feature/capability. The fact is, Sony and Microsoft are different companies that want to both deliver great experiences on each of their consoles. Microsoft feels the world is ready for interactive television, on top of a gaming console. Sony feels the world still wants a console primarily focused on gaming with a few added apps which are able to stream media (Netflix/Hulu). Either way you go, you're going to get a good experience. However, before you make a decision on which console to get, do yourself a favor and conduct a little research to make sure you know exactly which experience you want to dive into. Both consoles will deliver in amazing gaming experiences and that's what should be the most important to any gamer, whether you're an Xbox follower or Playstation follower.

Reviews I read helped me to select the PS4. PS4 availability plus the extended warranty agreement helped me to select Best Buy. Sony online manuals helped me to use the platform (my first time on these platforms). The holiday season prompted my purchase. Some Pros: The PS4 has a very clear interface and the controller is perfect (I play Madden NFL 15). It is my first experience with a controller, so I can’t give a comparison. Also, you can stand the PS4 on its side making a small footprint. In general, I’m satisfied all the way around at this point in time. Some Cons: I don’t have an Xbox, 1 or whatever, so I can’t give you a comparison. One of the Xbox problem requirements for me has apparently been changed. From CNET.com: “Xbox Live Gold is no longer required for basic streaming apps and synced game-saves.” I read the PlayStation Plus terms of use and there are just too many terms to my liking. I don’t like their “Wallet” system; it’s like an open checkbook. I would be willing to pay as I go, but that is not a usage term.

The PS4 is truly the pinnacle of gaming excellence. I was actually always a Xbox fanboy prior to this generation, so it was a leap for me to switch but I am so glad I did. Graphics are great, controller is responsive and comfortable. Load times are fast, everything is fantastic about it.

The PS4 is a really great gaming platform, with some impressive graphics and features. The system has a fast processor, that is able to shoot out very detailed graphics at smooth frame rates. The gaming catalogue is being added to weekly, and presently offers a few must have titles such as MLB 14, and Killzone Shadow Fall. I hope the system receives the same attention by developers as the previous 3 iterations. If that is the case, hold on to your hats gamers, we're in for an unforgettable ride!

The first edition of the PS4 is amazing and with the continuos updates keeps getting better. It is seemingly faster than the previous version and user friendly. I use it to game and as a 3d blu ray player, which I love. The controllers are great too. Huge fan of Playstation.

I know have both systems and like each one for different reasons. For me I love the ps4 the controller feels better and I like the games like mlb the show. Graphics are almost identical to xbox. For me if you can get both if not. Go with the ps4 unless your invested in the xbox.

As an old XBOX 360 user this really blew me away with stellar graphics and a wide variety of games ,though expensive , well worth it. The controller is stunning too with its colour chancing pad. Very content on this purchase would do it again if I had the choice.

I have owned every PS system since the beginning. This is the system I have waited the longest to purchase (mostly due to the lack of backward compatibility), but I am glad I finally pulled the trigger. The new controller is awesome, and the graphics are superb.

I am amazed about this Playstation 4. I own a PS3 and, while I am happy with it, the PS4 is a great upgrade. Powerful, fast, very sleek, silent, high definition scenes, easy to navigate, and innovative. I am looking forward to more future games and lots of fun.

The power of this console is very apparrent once you start getting your hands into the UI. It is fast and fluid and much better than that of the PlayStation 3. The Dualshock 4 is also a great re-designed controller and what I consider to be one of gamings best controllers in history. The system does feel a little bare with it not having all of the announced features on launch, but looking ahead it is clear that the console has plenty of potential of becoming everthing Sony promised and more. I would highly recommend the PS4 to anyone considering the purchase, but with a word of warning: Games are lacking at this point so do not expect a true next-gen gaming experience right out of the box, that will come in time.

I love the PS4. It's much easier to use than an Xbox. I'm not a huge fan of microsoft in general. The graphics are amazing. My 5 year old can even use almost all of the functions on the system.

Was debating if i should by it or not and I'm glad i did. not only i can play my games, i can stream movies and music when im not in a playing mode. my daughter and wife loves it just as much. They like using youtube, Netflix, and all. Really a great product if you don't have a smart tv or a bluray player with all the extras that way you only need one device. And your tv.

The ps4 is a better system than any other. The graphics are sharp, clear and precise. Awesome options on the new controller. I would recommend this system above all the rest. All around great gaming experience!!! (My son loves it also...lol!!!)

The ps4 is a nice looking system. Game look awesome and the controller feels good and comfortable in your hands. Also the cheaper price is also a plus.

The PS4 is far and above the best system out there. The sleak design, minimalist approach alows for a conversational piece in the living room. Oh, but wait till you turn it on. The user friendly game menus and attention to what Siny users have been asking for is all there under the hood. Graphics, you will be sure to turn heads of those passing through the living room as you blow Helgast away in Killzone: Shadow Fall or turn a double play in MLB The Show 14. This is a great system for a beginner or a hardcore gamer as the new controller design is the best I have ever held. So pick one up now because you are missing out on the best system of our generation. Beyond!

I have had PlayStations for years and debated upon purchasing the PS4 when released, but decided to wait about a year. Finally went ahead and made the purchase and am overall very happy with the system. The graphics are amazing! It really feels like you're watching a movie rather than a video game. The blu ray feature has always been and still is a plus to this machine. Love the controllers and all of their functions. The machine really is a solid PlayStation and I expected nothing less. My main issue with it is the lack of games available for it after a year's time and the loss of backwards compatibility. I unfortunately didn't do my research well enough on this and found out the hard way that my PS3 games would not work in this console. Had just assumed they would as the PS3 had the backwards compatibility. Once more games are available - I think this is an impressive system!
