This SSD is okay, not the largest or the fastest. There are better options at this price point. I needed it right away though, so thanks to Best Buy for having some computer parts in stock.

Good but not great. Geek squad promised me much better speed and performance with this hard drive but, not much better than what I had before. Computer start up is much quicker though.

Fast SSD - works in a desktop, not just laptops

Bought this to install in a Lenovo H50-55 (AMD A10/12GB/2TB) desktop system, which was purchased at BB last year. The 2 TB HHD that came with the system is excruciatingly slow with full boot times taking upwards of 3-5 minutes. From day one, Windows Task Manager shows Disk activity at 100%, even when doing simple things like surfing the web. 10-20 second delays when launching applications. Absolute horrible performance, considering the specs. Once I finally got this SSD installed and the O/S successfully cloned to it, it works great. Blazing fast full reboots in about 15 seconds. Application launches are immediate. Task Manager now consistently shows Disk activity at 10-20%. Background tasks, such as antivirus scans and cloud backup, are completely transparent with no noticeable performance hit. It’s like a totally new PC. Now the bad perspective and the reason for only 3 stars… I wanted to clone my existing O/S and boot partitions from the HDD to the SSD and *NOT* have to reinstall Windows. I selected this particular SSD because it came with Acronis Migration Software to clone the HDD. However, the version that you get is a bare bones stripped down version that DOES NOT WORK unless you purchase an upgrade for $20. Even though I was only using about 300GB of the 2TB HDD, I was not able to get the software to work with the 480GB SSD without “insufficient space” errors. Success was not possible even after defragging and shrinking the HDD partition volume. I spent days trying tricks with Windows Recovery Drives, Installing a fresh Windows and then restoring over it, etc. Absolute frustration and pain. Each iteration would take hours and hours only to eventually fail with another issue. There was NO support from PNY nor from Acronis on how to do this. Only constant pop-up screens requesting money to upgrade to a pay-edition of the software. It very much felt like a legal form of Ransom-ware. Ultimately, I used a different and FREE shareware partition backup/recovery product, and used an additional 1 TB external USB drive to backup and restore the system and boot components. It was finally a success, in light of several straight days of constant cussing. Even the dog stayed in another room. :-)

I installed this in my 2013 iMac replacing the OEM 1tb mechanical drive. I ran Blackmagic Disk Speed test before and after it was the same speeds. I will be spending back for a refund.

Super Fast - Great Cloning Software

I recently bought the Acer Nitro laptop with the AMD configuration, and bought this SSD at the same time. I also got the Insignia USB 3.0 external HD to USB enclosure. The Acronis cloning software that comes with the PNY SSD worked perfectly to clone the factory HD into the new SSD. It even auto-sized the new partitions since I was going from a 1TB down to this 480GB. After it was done, I swapped the SSD into the laptop and the factory HD into the enclosure. It was like I had super charged the laptop. For a mid-level gaming laptop, this SSD made a HUGE difference in boot times and game load times. At first, I used the enclosure to hook the SSD up to the laptop. Even though Windows didn't recognize the unformatted disk, the Acronis software was still able to detect it and perform the clone. After I swapped the drives, I am now using the factory 1 TB HD as an external backup drive in the enclosure. Technically, since this enclosure is USB 3.0, I could use it to store and load some older games that I have on Steam and Origin to keep from cluttering up my SSD.
