Decent Cheap 128gb Flash Drive but SLOW

Purchased this because it was cheap and is 128gb size. I work as IT and am VERY particular about my thumb drives. I use YUMI multi boot to run both Win 10 installer and a puppy linux installer/boot. I also keep A LOT of my other IT tools on drive as well as a few games. I use a 128gb samsung 3.0 with full metal body as my main drive. I did not expect this at 2.0 to get close write speeds and got this as a backup. It works as a backup but the write speeds are very slow. Oh well, get what you pay for. I would recommend this at the sale price I got. Do not pay over $20 for this.

I needed 128 Gigs and I couldn't pass up on this product, given the price. It replaced a smaller capacity LEXAR which stopped retracting and stopped working when I got it out again. Buyers should be aware of the shortcomings of this PNY product. FIRST: It is exceptionally slow. I knew it would be given that it was only a 2.0, but to transfer 68 Gigs took well over an hour. SECOND: The light on the thumbdrive that indicates it is transferring data NEVER WORKED. I rely on this feature to make sure that I don't pull it out of the port too soon. I am also a bit concerned that this is also retractable, but think it will be easier to pull off the productive cap, if necessary. Overall, cheap memory, with several limitations.

Look, the numbers behind transfer rates and data access rates are only as good as the actual performance of a hard drive or flash drive. if the transfer rate is slow and you give me some transfer rate on the package that is ideal but not practical, you haven't done me any favors. That said the quality of this particular flash drive is excellent for what I wanted to use it for, it just took me a lot longer to transfer the things I was backing up to it that I would have liked

I knew this was a USB 2.0 (slower) but I bought it to simplify video file transfers from my Macs to my QNAP NAS. Does the job well. Good value. Just not as fast as advertised even for a USB 2.0. Out of curiosity I tested SMB, AFP, NTFS & FAT32. All are slow so don't bother... even on one of my Macs on steroids. Also a bit annoying since doesn't stay put when clicked open (retract to expose USB) but is does click shut (and stays shut) so I guess that's not too bad. I can live with it.

I use this for backup of documents etc in my profile, and the massive storage for very cheap is an excellent value. The caveat is that the speed of this drive is horrifically slow: write is about 1.5MB/sec sustained, and read is about 5MB/second. Sandisk pen drive of a smaller capacity is 4 times faster for write speeds, but was also twice the price. The PNY will do the job, but you need to make a pot of coffee and be patient while writing to it.

I purchased this because I was looking for some portable storage that held plenty of stuff, and this was deeply discounted when I was at Best Buy deciding which to buy. It's unfortunately very slow and takes quite a while to load files or copy them to/from the drive. Not sure if it's just this specific device or all flash drives with large capacities (but I have a 1TB external hard drive that doesn't move slowly, so I'm guessing it is the device). If you're not in a hurry, it works just fine.

Used for backup storage that I do not access all the time. When the directory is too big I have seen the message over 8 hours, I just take the smaller files copy over - between 4 minutes and 15 minutes depending on the number of files, and leave the large file for last - usually copied over in 20 minutes or less. Happy with the amount of storage for the price paid.

i purchased this item to back up photos and documents. However, there were no instructions as to how to do so, so to tell you the truth, I do not know what I actually backed up. I should have looked on line as to how to use it correctly....but I didn't. My fault , but I would have preferred to have some instructions enclosed. Apparently, it was an excellent price. I'll have to check with my tech savvy son to assist me!

I got this 128GB thumb drive for less than $30 and PNY has been around for a long time. The drive cover is the sliding type and is difficult to push up or down. Drive speed is slower than my Lexar USB 2.0 16GB thumb drive. OK to use it to archive important documents or photos and put it in a safe deposit box. Daily uses may test your patience.

I bought this to backup pictures on my windows XP computer only to find out after opening it is not readable to the old operating system. Bummer as it forced me to move the items to a compatible hard drive and then use my windows 10 computer to transfer to the USB stick. Other small issue is the unit like to try and close as you attempt to insert it into the computer.

I am not real familiar with flash drives but what I do know is how some can respond more quickly than other. This one seems to be a little slow in operating once connected to it's reading device. But over all I do like the space allotted to it for the purposes I need it for.

The price of a 3.0 USB stick isn't much more, I bought this because it was on sale, but I wish I had seen it was a 2.0, I would have spent more. The files I was transferring were HUGE and it took a LONG time via 2.0, considerably less, considerably less on a 3.0 adapter. With that said. Works great, just slow in comparison to a 3.0 adapter.

I backed up my computer on to the flash drive. I only used 80 gigs of 128 gigs. When I wanted to put something else on the drive I found I only had 5 gig of memory available. I have to return the drive to find out what happened to the missing 43 gigs of memory. This is the first time I had any problem with a purchase from Best Buy.

Caution: If you want a lot of space (I didn't) this probably won't be good enough. USB 2.0 is super slow, versus 3.0. And filling this thing up, despite its relatively small GB size, takes a while. But, it gets the job done. I'd recommend looking at a 3.0.

I like this stick, it works like it's supposed to but I don't like how it connects to my USB on the computer. I don't know if I got duds or not but the stick is very hard to get open to use. Sliding the stick out is almost impossible. If I had to use this daily it would not be fun.

    only 116GB

    JonRobert

Only 116GB shows up on Windows properties, that is12GB mysteriously missing. 12Gb is a huge amount missing. 12.8 would be 10% of the flash drive. So I conclude 10% over rated as a 128GB or 10% something I don't understand. Can someone answer how 10% don't show up in a Windows properties click?

This was (relatively, compared to regular price and compared to other brands/makes) cheap. As the prior reviews stated: -it's somewhat difficult to withdraw the "case" to allow you to insert it into your USB port -there's no cap to enclose the contacts when not in use

The PNY 128Gb Attaché is a large drive which is what I needed for a data transfer project. Past experience with USB 2.0 thumb drives had been good, I was disappointed with the speed of transfer on this drive though. I'd recommend this drive if speed was not a priority.

Reason for only three stars is because the unit didn’t open easily. Have to force to open in order to insert to your device. Computer also had issues reading device. It works quick once you get it going

I purchased the USB drive to use as a boot drive, but it would not register in the CMOS of the computer as an external device or as a hard drive. As a storage device it works fine.
