Quick, inexpensive, reliable. What more could you want from a bargain SSD? Great choice for a backup computer or rescuing an old machine from obsolescence. Used this to bring an old machine to Linux and works great.

PNY ssd's are priced right and work well

I have used several PNY ssd's and have had no issues with them. I bought this to upgrade the failed mechanical drive in my father-in-laws HP desktop with Windows 10. These are priced right, especially on sale, to use a boot drives on any machine. His desktop has a large secondary, mechanical drive otherwise I would have gotten a larger SSD if it was the only drive. I have used PNY ssd's in upgrades to Mac's and Windows machines, both desktop and laptop and have had no issues using these drives as replacements. The drives are fast and well priced, especially when you can get them on sale. The use of Acronis is a plus when you need to clone the drive. I have cloned several over the years and the upgraded machines all just started back up with no issues.

So far I have been working with different brands of SSD. I replaced all my hard drives with SSD, and have tried different brands. I tested this SSD for the speed and compared with a samsung, sandisk, and kingston. PNY was the cheapest between these and very similar in speed. Kingston, Sandisk and PNY have about 5% difference in speed between them, and are about 10% slower than samsung. I would recommend take this SS because the price I would pay for the others does not justify such small difference in speed. Samsung is the fastest when run the speed test (and the most expensive), but we don't see the difference when using it in normal use. Even when I replaced the SATA model with a M2, which in terms of speed is about 5 times faster, I can't see the difference for normal use, only when run a speed test with proper softwares.

Installing this SSD made the old desktop boot up in 35 seconds vs 4 minutes. The old hard drive would stay 100% busy. The SSD would only be 40% busy and you can actually use the computer. Easy to copy hard drive with the free Acronis software. Under $40 for 240GB. Nice!!

I bought this solid state drive to install in one of my kids' aging school laptops for distance learning that was still running a mechanical hard drive. I'd seen remarks that the performance gain wasn't all that much. In my experience, this isn't the case and it's a great upgrade for an old computer. Despite having a fair amount of RAM and a decent processor, the computer crawled on boot-up and was slow to start applications or browse. Since dropping in this drive, the boot-up time dropped from over 2 minutes to less than 20 seconds, and performance gains are great - applications now respond very quickly. Even battery life has improved, as the computer runs cooler and doesn't need to use the fan as much and there are no mechanicals in the hard drive to eat up battery life.

Impressive speeds so far. Notebook only takes a couple seconds now to start up. Best of all, my programs start up much more quickly now and overall is more snappy. Hard to believe the difference between this and mechanical drives.

I’ve installed nvme and sata ssds on various computers and while these type don’t benchmark as fast, the normal office user will not notice the difference. For the price point this in an awesome drive. My client was very pleased with the “new life” it gave his laptop.

I used this item to replace a failing mechanical drive for a customer of mine. The capacity was perfect for his use (Web surfing, watching news, email) since he doesn't save much on the machine. It gave his old Toshiba laptop a reason to go on :D As for installation, it took less than 5 minutes to install (your mileage may vary, some of the latter generations of laptops can be a project to swap a hard drive), and approx 15-20 to clone the contents of the old drive (roughly a total of around 90-100GB) and I think 1/3 of that was just waiting for the cloning software to load. Fortunately the machine had 2 hard drive bays which sped up the process. If you have a machine that gets a lot of use but doesn't have a lot saved on it, I highly recommend this for a replacement drive, great bang for your buck.

Easy to install, easy to format, and easy to load an OS onto from a USB thumb drive. The right size for the right price. This SSD has the performance I was looking for. Make sure you have an adapter if the install calls for one!

I've purchased about 2 dozen of these drives, both in the 240 and 120 GB sizes. The capacity you purchase will depend on what you are going to use it in. When I refurb older computers I use the 120's as they are inexpensive and increase the performance up to 5 times. The 240s are more versatile for regular use in your own machine. I haven't had any go bad, but they don't appear to come with performance-enhancing software like the SanDisk, WD or Samsung models, although they do offer firmware upgrades on their website. I feel that right now, these drives occupy the "sweet spot" in the market for the value based customers.

Makes my lap top work like new

Changed my lap top hard disc drive to the PNY Solid State Drive. The difference was night and day. My original hard drive was an Western Digital. It works fine but disc hard drives do not work as fast as a Solid State. I was able to download a WD free clone program and made a clone copy of my lap top drive. The drive was a 500 gig and my PNY was 240 gig. The original only had about 80 gig used on it, so the WD clone program copied it with no problem. It did take about 30-40 minutes. It I purchase another PNY drive I can have a back up in case something happens to my drive. Easily worth the investment. I am using my old WD as an external storage drive. Purchased an SATA case for the drive. Nothing wasted. I've owned PNY drives for over 2 years. Reliable for sure.

Installed into Mid 2010 Macbook Pro. Easily done and improved boot time 4X while also improving performance. Also, facilitated High Sierra Upgrade because the OS is optimized for Flash storage.

I got this for $15, it is really a small amount to revive a 10 year old laptop. General reading speed is around 500mb, still 2x + than old 7200rpm drive.

Bought this SSD to speed up my 8 year old desktop build that was operating on a 1 TB HDD. I use the SSD to run the OS and core programs, while the 1 TB HDD is largely for storage of files, videos, music, and pictures. For the price, this is an excellent SSD. It was an easy plug and play assembly (once I bought the adapter to fit my desktop rails) that worked from the get go once formatted. I had some trouble transferring my OS over to the drive, but that's no knock against the SSD itself. At 240 GB it's a great size for an OS install for a new build. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an SSD to bring their desktop into the 21st century!

This makes an excellent boot drive as any SSD would provide a huge speed upgrade over a classic spinning drive and 240GB is plenty for Windows 10. I can't believe how prices have dropped.

While on the small side capacity wise nowadays this PNY 240GB SSD can often be found at good sale prices. It works fine, is faster than spinning rust, and sips only a little power. Keep it under half full and avoid excess file writes and you should get a long life. Breathes a bit of life into older slower PCs, have used these a few times just for that reason.
