Initial Inquiry & Decision:
I was searching for a simple, budget-friendly way to boost my computer’s performance and load times. The PNY CS900 500GB SSD offered generous storage, solid speeds, and an easy upgrade path using a standard SATA III connection.
Unboxing, Build Quality, & Testing:
This SSD uses a familiar 2.5-inch form factor, so installation in most desktops and laptops was straightforward. The advertised read and write speeds (up to 550/500MB/sec) were reflected in everyday usage—boot-ups, launches, and file transfers felt snappy and much faster than mechanical drives. While it doesn’t hit the absolute speeds of NVMe SSDs, for routine tasks it performed admirably, providing quick access to music, movies, and files and much-improved system responsiveness. Native Command Queuing keeps data well-organized, contributing to reliable operation, and the drive handles regular file movement and backups smoothly. For heavier tasks like working with large media files, you may notice speed dips, but that’s typical of SATA SSDs in this class.
Overall Impressions and Recommendation:
The PNY CS900 500GB SSD is a reliable, easy-to-install, and cost-effective upgrade for those who want better speed without breaking the bank. It’s ideal for users looking to modernize aging systems, improve boot and load times, and benefit from the durability of solid-state storage. Highly recommended for general storage and improved PC performance.

In an era where speed and efficiency are paramount in our daily computing needs, the PNY CS900 500GB Internal SSD emerges as a cost-effective solution to breathe new life into your computer. Performance (5/5):
The standout feature of the PNY CS900 SSD is its impressive performance. Upgrading from an HDD to this SSD is like trading in your old bicycle for a high-speed sports car. The CS900 offers remarkable read and write speeds, significantly reducing boot times and application loading times. Whether you're a gamer seeking faster load times or a professional looking for improved productivity, this SSD won't disappoint.
Reliability (4/5):
PNY is a trusted name in the industry, and the CS900 lives up to the brand's reputation for reliability. While it doesn't have the endurance of some premium SSDs, it's more than sufficient for typical consumer use. With proper care, this SSD should last for years without any hiccups.
Ease of Installation (5/5):
One of the joys of upgrading to the PNY CS900 is how hassle-free the installation process is. If you're not tech-savvy, don't worry – it's a straightforward process. You'll have enough space for your operating system, essential software, and plenty of files, photos, and videos. If you require more storage, consider the larger capacity options within the PNY CS900 series.

Bought and cloned on September 9th. Came home today to use it and was greeted with Non system disk. Tried hooking it up to multiple other computers to try and recover the data. Kept giving hardware errors or timing out. I'm not going to bother with the warranty and will go with a different brand.

New Life for an Older Computer

I had purchased a broken ASUS laptop that had a working system board but not a good screen. The computer was dirt cheap and needed a hard drive. With its i5 chip and 12 gigs of ram, this would make a good project computer. Rather than install another spinning drive, I wanted to see how this PNY SSD drive would do and I am astounded. Boot times are between 5-10 seconds from power to lock screen. Overall performance is like a much newer machine. While this may not be the fastest SSD available, it fit my budget for the amount of space.
What was most impressive is that this computer came with Windows 8.1 when new and using a Windows 10 installation usb media, the system went to Windows 10 without a hitch and has a valid Windows key now. Followed directions from Microsoft and I could not be happier.
Great price for a very good and competent product.

READ / WRITE speeds are close to what is advertised. i remember purchasing these for over $100 back in the day and they still work, for half the size and those were only 240 gig models back then. amazing how much these came down in price.
these days the best use is for storage use since those new m.2 drives are even faster than these.
but it is still fast enough to boot and run software good for laptop upgrades and such.

Reliable SSD upgrade for workstations

IT support for business specific software asked for all workstations to be upgraded to SSD for faster bootups of desktops---after a network slow down after installing the latest Windows 10 "upgrade"
Although, I was unsure if this was going to make a difference since had half the workstations (10 out of 20) already with SSD and the rest were not, but at the cost of the PNY SSD it was a no brainer--- the alternative was to install new computers--- and did not want to deal with the networking and installing of all the needed softwares at this time---3--4 day affair.
After the install, did not notice a difference in the network speed, but saw quickier boot times which was acheived. IT support when asked to check stated workstations, stated they were upto "spec" and the network issues would be resolved now with the new Windows 10 patch/upgrade...
At least I no longer have to worry about failing HardDrives for the next few years.

If your thing is to brag about your newest SSD performance data... please turn away... however if you look for a solid SSD to upgrade your PC??? this is the way to go. I have at least 5 or 6 of these in different computers... my oldest SSD is from PNY, about 10 years of age, has some memory blocks marked as 'faulty', but still manages to work flawlessly in every day desktop... CS900 replaced it as boot drive (actually 2 for dual boot), but the original 256GB PNY drive is still there proving the quality of this company products...

This is a basic, DRAM-less SSD, but for the price you can't really complain. 500GB and usable speed for this price is a great deal and works well for a regular pc or entry level gaming pc.
It does have the speed related issues associated with a DRAM-less SSD, but I found this to not be noticable in typical usage.
