A very fun Pokemon game with a great choice of the the first game for those who haven’t played it. I recommend this to those who haven’t played Pokémon before and would like to get into, it’s a bit different from the mainline games with the Pokémon go aspect but it adds a refreshing air.

    Fun Yellow Remake

Let's Go Eevee is a fun take on the original Pokemon Yellow with a few new twists: Graphics: Updated to Gen 7 standards with clean models for the Pokemon and smooth animations for most attacks. Human characters are more expressive, though your player character keeps the same expression, with the exception of cutscenes. Battle System/Gameplay: Wild pokemon battles are few and far between being restricted only to Legendaries and Snorlax. Wild Pokemon can only be "battled" by catching them in a Pokemon Go style format. It becomes tedious quickly trying to grind for experience for Gym battles and can easily waste pokeballs. Trainer battles are as they usually are in the main games, but there is a more prevelant sense of RNG (CPUs landing criticals more often, status ailments, etc). If you have the patience, grind a little to try to be over leveled. Finding wild pokemon is just walking the routes waiting for the models to spawn, like Pokemon Go. Shinies will spawn as shiny in the overworld, so stay on the look out and you can get lucky! The Safari zone is no more and replaced by Go Park, syncing to Go will make some parts of the easier. Though it is not need (Go-less playthough for me) Like in Gen 7, HMs are also no more. Your Eevee will use them as Secret Techniques so you can more freely build your team. Pokemon storage: The Pokemon Box is 1 box, forcing you to essentially catch and release (outside of your main team, Legendaries). It's much easier to just catch an evolved form later in the game to add to your dex, as leveling is far too time consuming. Story: It's close to the original Yellow's but the story of Marowak/Lavender Town were dialed back. You find out about Marowak's fate-just not immediately like before and it feels like they were obviously trying to water it down. It also doesn't fit right to the timeline. It seems to take place between Red/Blue and Gold/Silver. This may just be my nostalgia talking, but this made the story feel out of place. Legendary bird battles and Snorlax are kept unchanged. Mewtwo's battle is also unchanged, though he is no longer the final boss, being replaced by Red. Music: Nicely updated from the original and breathes new life into the places I used to visit a lot as kid. Legendaries get their own remix on the wild pokemon theme and battle music is very well done (final rival battle, especially) Your partner: Petting and playing with Eevee is a fun little way to relax from the rest of the game. It's so cute to hear him purr while petting him. Playing with your Eevee also raises your whole team's happiness, which helps negate some of the RNG of the battle system when facing other trainers. Easily one of my favorite new elements of the game. Your rival: Not Blue. Trace is likable but is way too nice as a rival. It's not like beating Blue and enjoying the moment, it just feels bland because of his nature. Not to mention his battles feel way too scripted to try to match with how Blue acted. Even his final match felt...anti climactic and unworthy of the music you hear at the end of the Elite four. Bring back the ruder rivals! Overall: Enjoyable after a slight learning curve with the catching, battle, and experience systems. The story is slightly altered from the original, but it doesn't take away from feeling nostalgic. Eevee is a lovable companion and makes this experience to Kanto fun! Also, the save data will get you Gigantamax Eevee for Sword/Shield. You'll also get the Companion Eevee spirit in Smash Ultimate

To start off, I've been a fan of Pokémon literally my entire life. I grew up playing it and would buy Nintendo platforms only when a Pokémon game would be released, but I felt like the magic had been lost a bit once I hit Pokemon X/Y, and I didn't even bother to pick up Sun/Moon. As innovative and unique as the series was, I felt like the 'traditional model' of the series had just worn itself a bit thin after so many games. I was hesitant to pick up Let's Go, but I'm so, SO glad I took the risk. With all that being said, here are my pros and cons (spoiler free as far as the plot goes): PROS A. The Gameplay - I honestly loved the fact that you can see the actual Pokémon walking around in the tall grass. No more running into Zubat after Zubat after Zubat... The battle animation (and the visuals overall) are gorgeous, and I love the concept of a 'companion Pokémon' (although I wish they could evolve). B. The Pokéball Accessory - This is definitley a gimmick and not necessary to the gameplay at all, but using the Pokéball was SO fun to me and I stuck with it for about 80% of the game - the only time I didn't use it was if it was charging or if I was away from home. I did notice that it was easier to catch Pokémon without it since the Switch makes it much easier to aim, but for most Pokémon it worked really well. It was also super easy to set up and would connect to the Switch pretty much instantly each time I began playing. Besides the initial charge, I only needed to charge it once so the battery life on it was much better than I had expected it to be. C. Everything Feels New - Though this is a rehash of Pokémon Yellow, between the totally updated graphics and new style of play it felt like a new game with familiar faces. It was really nostalgic seeing some of the same enemies and the original 151 Pokémon, and refreshing to see the series stripped back to a certain degree. CONS - A. Too Easy - I feel like this is the most common complaint I've seen and I'd definitley have to agree. I'm by no means a battle expert... But I literally didn't lose a single battle. Not even to any Gym Leaders or the Elite Four. There's a thing that your pokemon will do where every so often they'll "tough it out" and retain 1 HP after being dealt a hit that would've otherwise made them faint and while it's nice in theory I felt that it happened WAY too often and swayed some battles in my favor when I should've lost. For most gyms and the E4 my Pokémon were consistently 5-10 levels below my challenger, it doesn't make sense to me that I won some of the battles I did. B. Too Short - I realize there are Master Trainers left to take on once you beat the main storyline, but I beat the main part of the game in around 25 hours. At the pricepoint I just wish that I was getting more playtime out of the main game. C. Pokémon GO Experience - Based on the title alone it's known that PLG ties in with PG, but I really wish they'd include more of a tutorial/explanation of how leveling up Pokémon works. In the typical games it's via battle and you can't have more than six Pokémon in your party, but in PLG it's totally different and relies heavily on the PG aspect of quantity over quality and sending the Pokémon you don't want/need to the professor. Your Pokémon gain experience with each wild Pokémon you catch, but the fact that you can send your spares to Oak in exchange for candy is never really explained. I haven't played PG in quite a while and was totally confused at first so I feel like for the few out there who never played PG period it'll be extremely confusing. An optional tutorial would've been a nice addition, but you kinda just have to fumble around in the beginning for a bit before the concept makes sense. Overall, I feel like this is such a great game and I can't wait to see where Pokémon goes from here. I'd say if you're on the fence about it to go ahead and go for it because it's honestly so much fun. There's enough of a plot/story to keep you invested, and it's relaxed enough that you can have a show going in the background while you grind through leveling up your Pokémon. I've been really happy with it overall!

Review: Let’s Go Eevee for Nintendo Switch

Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! for the Nintendo Switch is a delightful mix of nostalgia and modern gaming that welcomes both longtime fans of the franchise and newcomers alike. As a reimagining of Pokémon Yellow, the game brings the classic Kanto region to life with vivid HD graphics, a charming art style, and a lively companion in Eevee, who travels with you every step of the journey. From the moment you meet your adorable partner Pokémon, it’s clear that this game focuses heavily on the bond between trainer and Pokémon. One standout feature of Let’s Go, Eevee! is its simplified mechanics that borrow from Pokémon GO, particularly in how you catch wild Pokémon. Instead of engaging in traditional wild Pokémon battles, players use motion controls to throw Poké Balls and capture Pokémon in an accessible, streamlined way. While some fans of the series' classic mechanics might find the absence of wild battles disappointing, the system is intuitive and adds a fresh twist to the gameplay. However, it may feel overly simplified for hardcore players who crave the complexities of older titles. The integration of co-op play is another wonderful addition, allowing a second player to jump in and explore the Kanto region with you. It’s a fun way to introduce less experienced players to the world of Pokémon. Plus, Eevee itself is a joy to have as a partner, with customizable outfits, adorable animations, and unique signature moves that make it stand out from other Pokémon games. That said, some aspects of the game may feel overly catered to younger audiences, particularly its lack of difficulty and the simplified mechanics. For veteran players, this may detract from the experience, as the game often feels more focused on capturing the magic of the Pokémon world rather than delivering challenging gameplay. Overall, Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! is a charming and accessible entry into the Pokémon franchise that offers plenty of nostalgia while catering to a broader audience. Its vibrant visuals, lovable partner Pokémon, and relaxed gameplay make it a great introduction for newcomers and a pleasant stroll down memory lane for longtime fans. While some players may crave more depth and complexity, this remains a solid addition to any Nintendo Switch collection.

If you're a diehard Pokemon fan and can't wait until Sword/Shield, then this a good way to get your fix, especially if you're old enough to have those nostalgic feelings of Gen 1. And it has some nice convenience features that make it worth a try if you're just trying to scratch the Pokemon itch, but the way it forces motion controls gets old quick, and the catching-instead-of-battling mechanic similarly starts to drag after a while, especially since it's limited to generation 1 Pokemon. Still, it's a decent little adventure, especially if you catch it on sale.

I told myself I wasn't going to get this game, but once it came out, I immediately drove to the store to pick it up. I, like many others, have a soft spot for Gen 1, so I had to see the graphical changes made from handheld to console and it is absolutely wonderful. 3D models of all original 151 Pokemon look great. The Pokemon GO mechanic is a nice add to Let's Go. Basically safari zone, chucking balls at Mon's trying to capture them. Sure, battles with wild Pokemon are stripped, but it seems less time consuming now. Also, there were plenty of trainer battles along the journey. Seeing Pokemon in the overworld instead of random encounters is fantastic. I can finally breeze through a cave without Zubats all up in my face. YMMV of course, since there are times where they can clutter and trap players. CGI scenes and some bonus content added to the story are nice surprises. Pikachu and Eevee couldn't be any cuter. I really hope we get Gold/Silver/Crystal Let's Go versions in the future!

Really fun game. I am playing it co-op with my 4 year old daughter. They have a cool mechanic in this game where a second play can drop in and ultimately has little direct control but helps catch pokemon and gets to use a second pokemon (kind of a unfair advantage for the players lol). Really cool

I bought this as a gift for my nine year old niece to play on her switch. I bought Let's go Pikachu to play with her. It is a remake of Pokemon Yellow and features connectivity to Pokemon Go and catching aspects of Pokemon Go. You can't battle wild pokemon and can only really battle other trainers with the exceptions of legendary pokemon. The game is easier for beginners to the franchise and features the kanto original 150. The graphics are very cute and you can pick whatever pokemon you like to follow you. Some are version exclusives. Overall happy with this game and a cute remake with lovely new visuals to pass time. Not as challenging for older more experienced players familiar with the franchise but great for younger children.

I love pokemon, and this is very similar to Pokemon Yellow I think, so one of the original ones on the gameboy. The adventure is great, I enjoy the characters, I love capturing pokemon, and my little eevee companion is absolutely adorable. You even get to dress Eevee and pet him/her! The only thing about the game that I would change is you only battle trainers, so when you find other pokemon in the wild, you just capture them using pokeballs for experience, rather than battle them for experience. So I like the idea of not attacking random pokemon to make your's stronger, but it also feels less authentic in a way to just go about capturing 100 pidgeys to level up! Of course, the game isn't too challenging, so I don't have many areas where I really need to level up. So overall, great game, I'm very happy!

This game (together with Pokemon: Let's Go Pikachu!) is a remake of Pokemon Yellow, a 1998 Game Boy game, but everything has been updated. Graphics are beautiful, story is fun, and gameplay is a little simplified (but still a ton of fun). This is the perfect entry point for young players (my 8 year old LOVES this game) or for players new to Pokemon games), or for older players who played the original Pokemon Game Boy games, since the gyms and maps and story are all the same as they were 21 years ago. This is my favorite game on the Switch so far -- definitely recommended!

This is an absolutely fun, adorable take on Gen 1! I got it for my spouse, who is usually not into video games, and it's now her favorite game. It's easy enough for beginners to play, but there are ways to add a little bit of challenge if you get bored. I still prefer the regular Pokémon battles to the Pokémon Go style of throwing Pokéballs, but it's not a major complaint. It definitely requires more patience and a different set of skills, which can be a fun way to mix things up.

The Let's Go! series seemed cute but not my cup of tea at first. After a few weeks of playing it, I have to say that it definitely grew on me. The enhanced graphics, slight adaptation to the story line and outfits between you and eevee/pikachu have truly been fun to experience. With the addition of having overworld pokemon and being able to see their models be shiny was a big selling point for me, personally. Definitely loving it more than I ever thought I would!
