Great addition to the Pokemon franchise

Pokemon Sun and Moon both take the decades-old formula of the series and makes some interesting, bold changes. Most notable among these changes are the addition of the Pokemon Ride mechanic to explore the world environments, replacing the former HM moves that had become bloated and predictable as the franchise aged. Other changes include updated versions of original 151 Pokemon, both in appearance and type. The updated types of these familiar Pokemon are more interesting than I'd anticipated and had me using old favorites that never quite fit my team in previous entries. The brand new Pokemon that accompany every new pair of games also offer plenty of new strategic elements throughout the game. What keeps this game from receiving a full 5 star rating are just minor gripes (I'm pretty picky about what I give perfect scores to). Namely, things like repetitive battle music that clashes against the game's otherwise more relaxed tone, too many story cutscenes and interruptions to gameplay, and occasionally underwhelming environments that begin with promise but fail to live up to their potential. Altogether, though, this is a very solid Pokemon game and I've consistently enjoyed my 40+ hours of play time. Hopefully the next game (or rumored third of this batch - Pokemon Stars) will make good on these simple but apparent problems.

Pluses about the game: + New Pokemon! And their designs are overall good + Great characters that stand out from past games. I love the rivals and partners you travel with along your journey + The environments are more 3D (although it doesn't use the 3D feature on the 3DS) + The soundtrack is pretty good + It's quite challenging -- more so than older games sometimes + It's pretty funny from time to time Things I'd change: - The game can be kind of slow. Encounter a Pokemon, watch the animations of you sending your Pokemon out, even if you don't want to battle that Pokemon. There's also this mechanic where, if a wild Pokemon is below half it's health, it will call out for help and summon another Pokemon. This makes random encounters take longer, which can be a pain when you are just trying to get things done. - Pokebank is not free, and it's the only way to transfer Pokemon from your older games. - There are so many cutscenes, which again, make this game seem really slow + Not much to do after you beat the game. I wish it had a Battle Frontier or something like it. Still, it's worth a play through in my opinion. I just hope Game Freak addresses some of the issues in the next game.

I was a die hard Pokemon fan that sort of fell out somewhere around gen 4. I always still liked Pokemon but didn't keep up with the games anymore with the exception of X & Y. The problem I always had was the HM system, it really factors on your team build and move selection. You always need a flying type in your party for HM Fly, you always need a water type in your party for HM Surf, and so on. Add to that the fact that the HMs take up one of the 4 move slots and lets be honest some HMs just plain suck for battling. Sun and Moon fixed that by introducing Ride Pokemon, no longer are you required to have an HM Pokemon in your party allowing you to build the party you want with more freedom. The addition of Alolan Forms of classic Gen 1 Pokemon is also one that I enjoy but that might just be nostalgia goggles talking. All in all I'm enjoying my time with this far more than the time I spent with X & Y, would highly recommend this to anyone thinking about getting back into Pokemon after a long hiatus.

    An Un-Enthralling Game

Like many I bought this game out of nastolgai having grown up in the 90's playing Pokémon my entire life. Pro: Has classic Pokémon reimagined and hints the original games will get a 3DS remake. Con: Kinda boring start in my opinion with more ridiculous than ever antigonists. New additions such as Z-moves seem ridiculous and I find myself having trouble becoming invested/interested in a game that throws out the classic Pokémon gym mechanics for these new island "trials." Overall the game could be amazing but I haven't gotten very far as it simply hasn't drawn me in the way past Pokémon games have. I've heard that many people like the game so I'm sure it improves as time passes plus I really enjoy seeing the classic Pokémon in a new light, which will be my main reason for playing. I'll probably have a more positive opinion of it once I get further into the game as I felt similarly about X & Y yet came to truly enjoy those games.

Compated to previous entries, there are no longer Gym Leaders, instead, Island Trials replace them. You don't walk on a grid/tile system anymore, HM's are replaced by "Pokemon Ride". There are LOTS of Pokemon which make different combination teams fun to experiment with. The song/music that's played when creating your character and the intro scene does NOT know what kind of song it wants to be and doesn't fit that scene at all to the point that its comedic. Overall, this game is by no means bad, its great, but it's definitely somnewhat different fron previous entries.

This is a pretty good improvement on the previous 3DS Pokémon entries (X and Y) and doesn't suffer from the frame rate issues. It's also a fresh take on the story, which was long overdue. Gyms and their leaders are out in favor of a light, approachable story. The quality of life improvements are appreciated, especially the memory feature, which keeps track of which moves are strong/weak against other Pokémon once you use the move on them. It's a sure thing for any Pokémon fan, and may even change your mind about the series if it's never managed to hook you.

I have played the Pokemon games since Crystal so I am a little biased but this game is a little easy compared to other games in the series. However, it's a great introduction game for kids for that very reason. There are also a lot of cool new pokemon added in this gen. If I had to recommend this game or the Ultra variants I would recommend the Ultra variants more because there is more post game content.

This game has very sharp graphics and good gameplay but it does not have a lot of Replay life becomes pretty basic once you understand the majority of the game so playing at through twice for someone who's older than say 7 years old is probably dreadfully boring. Pokemon is a very popular franchise but a lot of adults like it as much as kids it's kind of funny should really get Revenue generator has a lot of shirt graphics but the gameplay does like a little

Fortunately for the Pokémon company, they had a breakout hit and hugely grossing game on iOS. It gave me and many friends enough nostalgia to delve into the newest Pokémon handheld. I have to say I’m glad I gave this a chance. I had about 400 Pokémon I didn’t know about but the userface is fantastic and negates the need for all of that knowledge and obsession. Great story, great battle mechanics, great visuals. I love Pokémon again.

I've been playing the Pokemon games since Pokemon red and blue and love them. The game is worth playing if you love the games. The story is pretty good, the added mechanic of z-skills will make online battling interesting, the game felt a little more challenging than more RECENT games (in terms of type advantage doesn't mean you get a one hit K.O. 90% of the time). While I enjoyed this installment it was a little short and the post game is lacking.

I love everything about Pokémon but this game wasn't able to get my full attention and it lacked the ability to get me hooked on it. The game itself was too story based, but it did bring back first generation Pokémon which was great! To prove my point, it's been a month and I still haven't finished the game, I usually finish the games within the first week. I think you just have to get passed the beginning story plot and then it gets better!

The last Pokemon game I played was back on Gameboy Advance. Coming back after so many years was pretty good. Having to see all the new changes and additions they put in. Simple things to how to trade Pokemon online, to how small little factors in the world can change what kind of Pokemon you get. It was also nice coming to a few Pokemon that I recognized but they changed to different forms, like Vulpix and Marowak (not Diglett).

I have played these games since they started all the way back with red and blue. There have been a bunch of changes since then, but sun and moon really break the mold. The battling system has been much improved and the gameplay has been enhanced to include just more than having to beat the elite four. Overall it was a great game that continues the tradition of pokemon

Great game. The new battle system is a good improvement and the new Pokemon are a fun addition. Took a little while to get use to the fact that this game is set 12 hours a head of you 3DS' clock so night time in real world Day time in game world and visa versa, but overall a good fame. A must have for any Pokemon fan, also a great game for beginning Pokemon players.

I love pokemon games and this is no exception. The only thing i did not like is the fact that they took out super training from gen 6 and replaced it with 'hyper training' which in my opinion is useless. Another thing I wish they did (spoiler allert) was two things: easier way to get evolution items type:null could be breedable.

I've been enjoying playing Sun/Moon. Didn't grow up playing Pokemon as a kid so I don't have the same nostalgia googles some people seem to have for the series. I like that this one has nice 3D models but dislike that the 3DS doesn't offer 3D viewing. If you liked other recent Pokemon games you will likely like these.

If you like Pokémon, you’ll like this. Yess, it’s just like the last 20 games. The battle system is a bit goofy with the new systems but not bad. Visuals are fun and the map is good. Newest Pokémon are dumb, but at some point those ideas are gonna stretch thin.

I honestly got this game cause I have always wanted to see what new pokemon and features they bring in the latest installments. I liked the game but it (to me) feels like pokemon is going in a new direction. Fighting feels the same, but there is more story in this. Lots of talking. I feel like it's kind of forced on you too.

Great pokemon game for newcomers and veterans! It pays homage to the original Red and Blue games, and adds some fun new tweaks. I wish the design of a lot of the new pokemon and Alohan forms would be better, but that's about it. I mean it's a Pokemon game. It's generally more of the same with a few new alterations.

I was a little put off that there weren't the traditional gyms to go through, but the trials were actually pretty fun and different. I love the storyline of this particular game, sometimes the older ones tend to get a bit repetitive but this one didn't feel that way. Overall a nice, enjoyable game.
