Cute new camera, film somehow got worse

Having been a fan of the original instant camera, I thought it would be cool to reminisce by having the newer model with, I imagined, better usability and quality. Boy was I wrong; this camera may be new and somewhat improved, smaller, lighter, cuter, etc., but it's the film that ultimately breaks the camera. I like this camera because it takes me back to a time when I was a boy and my dad had photographic expertise. It was a symbol of the seventies, a symbol of freedom, to be daring, liberating. It helped lead humanity on its path to instant gratification. Take a picture and instantly (2-3minutes) see how it came out. Enough with the run down memory lane; the reintroduction of this camera brought with it adjustable exposure, double exposure, flash, and a somewhat smaller form factor. It also sadly brought terrible quality film the likes of which I've never seen. The old Land Camera 900 from 1962 took better instant pictures. This new old film requires even longer (10-15min) before you can view the image and costs 10 times as much as a pack of inkjet photo paper. Pictures taken in any light come out washed out with very little in the way of color. Use of the flash increases the quality slightly. It has the half press feature that usually puts the lens into focus before full press exposure; in this case, it does nothing. If the subject is more than 5ft away, a person is unrecognizable, a dark vehicle's features are hardly noticeable. At 3 to 4 ft, a person looks decent and some color is visible. It could've been a great camera, still probably could be if they come out with better film comparable to Zink. Otherwise, it's just a relic that's better sitting on a coffee table as a conversation piece.

This was a birthday present for my wife and she couldn't be happier. I bought 5 extra packs of film and within a few days she had used all but the 2 packs that came with the camera. The pictures are incredible and such a blast from the past. I grew up using these cameras and looking at the pictures you'd be fooled into thinking they were taken 30+ years ago. We absolutely love it.

For the past week, I've been testing the second-generation Polaroid Now instant film camera. In my testing, I had the bundle pack, which came with the camera and my first two packs of film. It is identical to Polaroids of the past. It uses a film cartridge that is inserted into the chin of the camera. On first use, it spits out the paper film cover, and the camera is ready for use. There is a button for the built-in flash, but I wouldn't rely on it to do much for you. It will give you some extra light, but that's about it. With this being a nostalgic device, the pictures are of Polaroid quality. This means they will not be colorful, high-resolution, or high-contrast. They will look similar to the old Polaroid pictures of your grandmother you find in a shoebox. Also, you can't trust the viewfinder to line up your shot. It will pick up things that are out of the frame. Overall, I think this is a cool, nostalgic device that will capture those random moments we lose track of in the digital age. You will always get an old-timey, one-of-a-kind picture with a story behind it. Some great uses for it are at events such as weddings, quinceañeras, graduation parties, or family gatherings. Just don't expect high-quality photos, and you will be happy.

Works well. A real blast from the past. Takes nice pics. Are they like a modern SLR or even cell phone? No. Are they a lot of fun and quick results? Yes. If you understand the inherent limitations you'll enjoy it.
