This game looks beautiful, the music is amazing and the art style is done by studio ghibli.
this game is a remake of a ds game that only came out in japan.
as much as I enjoyed the beginning parts the later quests can drag on.
The difficulty can spike at times as well.
If you can I would pick up dragon quest 8, either of the dark clouds or any from the professor Layton games.
these in my opinion are better level 5 games then ni no kuni
also check out Fantasy life for the 3ds.

Ni No Kuni is a beautiful game full of adventure, charm, and great characters. It's a great cross between Studio Ghibli, the animation studio known for such movies as Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, and Castle in the Sky and developer Level-5, known for the Professor Layton series of games and Dragon Quest 9 for the Nintendo DS. This game combines the great storytelling Ghibli is known for, with very fun RPG gameplay very similar to DQ9, but even a bit deeper with battles playing out in real-time and having your characters being able to fight with familiars (creatures they play a pokemon-like collection and battling mechanic). It is a very dense story meaning you will sink hours and hours into playing it, which for some people is not as fun, especially because the sidequests and the battles can be a little repetitive (but at least they are at least partially skippable). The music, animated cut-scenes, and wonderfully unique world are all classic Ghibli and a beauty to behold. Plus, now that it's been out a while, its cost has lowered, making it a great value game.

Ni No Kuni combines a cel shaded art style courtesy of Studio Ghibli (Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro) with RPG gameplay reminiscent of games produced by large Japanese studios in the nineties. There is plenty of depth and a large world to explore but the game is not overly difficult for newcomers. Additionally, it has a well told story that is appropriate for children but told well enough to hold the interests of adults as well. If you or a friend has even a casual interest in JRPG's or Studio Ghibli's films this game is absolutely worth trying.

For the last decade or so, I have shy'd away from JRPG's. I just havent had the time to invest in a 40 hour game that I will most likely not enjoy. The moment I started Ni No Kuni I knew that I have found a game that I wanted to play. The artistic art style charmed me from the start and even though I am an adult felt like I was a child again playing this game. Although the difficulty level can be somewhat uneven at times, I thoroughly enjoyed the game and put well into 40 plus hours into it. I highly recommend this game. If you are unsure if this is a game for you or not, rent it first. Thats what I did and then immediately went out and bought it. Thanks level 5 for a great gaming experience.

The first thing that stands out is the great animation, which should be no surprise as Studio Ghibli did the work on the sequences. Even if you aren't an animation nut, you will love the engaging story and exciting game play.

This is a classic jrpg that does not fall into the traps of the genre. There are no random encounters and goals are clearly marked.
Its a game geared towards children but the writing and art are endearing enough to pull adults in as well.
Highly recommended

I've put about five hours into Ni No Kuni, which might not be enough to get a great idea of the game, but my first impression of the game is a bit underwhelming. It's amazing to look at, that's for sure, but the story is quite run-of-the-mill, and the combat is a bit clunky. It's a strange combination of turn-based and real-time combat, and it never really gels. I wish the developers had just chosen one style. There's also a ton of hand-holding, so far at least. I never really feel like I'm discovering anything, or making any of my own decisions. The game is just constantly telling you what you can and can't do, or where you can and can't go. I much prefer the chance to explore and figure things out for myself. Hopefully this changes, as it seems I'm still in a pretty early part of the game. But Ni No Kuni definitely starts slow and frustrating.

The story is cute and solid, the animation sequences are beautiful as done by Studio Ghibli. The music is lulling and never jarring. The characters are fantastic and the game play fun. Lots of side quests and challenges to keep the game going and engaging.

If you are a fan of JRPGs and/or Studio Ghibli, this game is for you. The graphics are gorgeous, similar in appearance to a watercolor painting. The story is intricate and touching.

I enjoyed playing this game a lot. It's got a lot of side quests and it's going to take a long time to finish. The story line is interesting and starts off with a sad beginning about a young boy who has reason to be depressed. It's one of my favorites of this year.
