Being a former 40K player, I knew I would like this game. Having now played this game a few times, I am glad I bought it. I have not played it much so I cannot talk about the later stages of the game, but the cinematics alone are worth the price I paid. The storyline is in line with the 40K cannon. The gameplay is a bit linear, but that was to be expected. Overall, I like the game and would recommend it.

Fun game to waste some time, and take some frustrations out on green skinned dudes. Non Stop button mashing so if this is your thing you will love this game.

Warhammer 40k has been around for quite a while. It hasn't been till recently that we have seen an decent adaption for consoles. If your a fan of the Dawn of War franchise, and you've always wanted to know how it feels to be a frontline soldier than this is the game you've been waiting for. . Great Action and nice fluid gameplay mechanic's for a 3rd person shooter. This game is fun whether you want to kill some Orc's in single player, .survive endless onslaughts of enemies in Exterminatus, or bust some fools up in versus. The Army Painter is a nice touch as well, as it give's you the ability to customize and change different armor pieces of your online character.
Bottom Line: This game is surprisingly fun. If you want a game that delivers and you want something different from the typical everyday shooter, than this is the game for you.

Ever since a friend introduced me to the first Dawn of War RTS game, I've become a big Warhammer 40K fan, devouring many of the books set in that universe.
I'm not a purist who gets upset that the name of the 2nd Company Ultramarines Captain is not Titus, I can overlook the whole idea of the power armor having shields because sometimes realism has to take a backseat to gameplay, I can even overlook how Astartes are supposed to be significantly bigger than the average human but the female Imperial Guard Lieutenant is barely a head shorter than the three Space Marines. That's all easy enough to overlook, but what's not so easy to overlook is the uneven difficulty of the game. There is a point, not too far into the game, where it's likely you'll get killed and have absolutely no idea what killed you. The game is fun enough when you're just wandering around this Forge World killing a bunch of Orks with bolter and blade, save a few notable points, but once they Chaos marines are introduced the game just kind of goes downhill and fast. The Ork Warboss fight is also a bit on the infuriating side the first few times because it is hard in a cheap kind of way, not hard in a challenging sort of way.
The plot to the game was kind of thin, mostly just enough to keep you moving along to the next objective and fleshed out a little here and there by floating servo skulls you can pick up. The difficulty level seems inconsistent, as some points early in the game are very difficult but plenty later in the game are ridiculously easy. The spacing of ammo crates could have also been better. Sometimes you're passing 3-4 crates of ammo because you haven't run into a single enemy, other times your bolter is basically out of ammo because there are no ammo crates to be found anywhere. Maybe the best thing the game does is really help you to kind of visualize the Warhammer 40K universe and what it looks like in a way that the Dawn of War RTS games couldn't. So in that sense it seems a pity that the ending of the game appeared to be setting up events for a sequel that will probably never happen with THQ's bankruptcy. Though it is kind of hard to overlook that the Inquisitor in the game is a psyker and virtually all Space Marine Chapters have Librarians, but because the Ultramarines Captain in this game can withstand warp energies he gets carted off in chains by the Black Templars of all Chapters, not something that might make a bit more sense like the Grey Knights.
All in all it's respectable hack and slash type game, but it failed to really leverage the rich source material of the Warhammer 40K universe. In the end, if they would have just stuck to purging an Ork Waaagh from a Forge World that made parts for Warhound Titans, the game would have been a lot better.
