Decent game but could improve combat

Feels like a mix between Bioshock and System Shock, but never excels like either do. Atmosphere is great, but the combat (especially melee) lacks. Good buy if you can get it on sale.

The thing I appreciate the most from Prey is that it is something different, which is saying a lot from a genre that seems to just pump out sequel after sequel. Prey differs vastly from other FPS experiences, focusing less on the combat (which does have its drawbacks) and focusing more on the atmosphere and story. This game reminds me of a crossbreed between Half-Life and Bioshock, but never feels like it is a carbon copy of either. Give the demo a whirl if you want a taste of what to expect, but never assume the experience stays the same, which is what makes Prey so magnificent. Only drawback is the combat isn't as thrilling as the rest of the game.

It's nice to see a horror game that doesn't rely on cheap jump scares. The combat could use some improvement.

Its curious alternate-history universe, intriguing sidequests, hidden threats, and detailed environmental storytelling make Talos I a joy to explore. The unsettling sense of paranoia that comes from knowing any object could turn out to be a hidden enemy gives even the quiet moments a palpable tension. All of that picks up the slack for combat and stealth that doesn't feel fresh enough to sustain it throughout what can be a long game.

This is a mixture of dishonored and alien. @@@@@@@@ in my opinion) I've heard bioshock, but I just don't see/feel it. Lots of side quests & crafting . I think the combat could've felt a little better and there could've been more interesting enemies... besides that... I don't have any major complaints

The story is interesting and keeps you engaged well enough, but it's the environment and gameplay that shines. From choosing how you'd like to progress and upgrade your character to how you'd like to approach situations. Would you like to play it safe and sneak past everything, take everything head on, or make yourself more alien than human and fit in. Or become anything in the environment through mimic abilities. The combat isn't as polished or quick as a FPS shooter, but this fits since your not a marine, or spec-ops trained fighter, your a random person who is in the wrong place at the wrong time. You won't survive purely on shooting through every enemy, nor will you beat this game without thinking carefully on how you'll approach some of the trickier situations.

This is a fun game with a similar play style as Dishonored 2. The theme and story line are very exciting. If you are a fan of first person shooters, I would recommend it. There are a few small bugs and not the most exciting combat. Wish there were a few more options for weapons. Overall enjoyed the experience.

I'm writing this review after the release of the DLC Mooncrash and the Prey VR DLC although I bought the game Day 1. Although you can beat the game in 15 hours or less (putting aside the now fully patched game glitch that allowed you to beat the game in 5 minutes) Ive spent 60 + hours just exploring the entire space station, recycling and doing quests. Now that the game is $9.99 in some places you'll get a lot for you're dollar even if you pay $19.99. The DLC Mooncrash is great as well.
