Mechanics great! IFit poor

The mechanics of this elliptical are amazing after 2 weeks of use! It’s sturdy, the fan keeps me cool during my workout, the stride is smooth, having a place to watch my phone is great! Love the physical machine! However....the iFit part has been a pain from the start. I’ve got 2 small kids & limited time to workout. I need to jump on it & go so I’m working out, not figuring out an iFit software system. I did the initial set up but it still didn’t work properly. The first 3 times I used the elliptical I used it without being able to view the stats at all because it wouldn’t show it. After emailing iFit they gave me a 10 step process to update the software. Took over 30 minutes to do that & I still can’t upload the iFit workouts. I don’t really need the iFit membership but since it came with a year free I thought I’d check it out. I have only been able to use the elliptical manually so far, but for me that’s all I need. I’ve gotten another lengthy email about how to fix the issue with downloading the workouts but haven’t bothered to mess with it. Will definitely be canceling my subscription to iFit so I’m not charged $40 a month after my years worth of free subscription is up. That’s way too steep for me.
So if you want a good sturdy elliptical with a good incline, resistance & other nice mechanical features, I recommend this machine! But please note you have to get your iFit working even to get this machine to work in manual mode. May take decent amount of time up front.

Having some issues

I was very excited for this purchase. It is incredibly heavy, so once you get it in your house you are not going to move it again. Pros: IFIT classes are nice, a lot of variety. Incline adjustments during workouts is great and I am impressed with the level or resistance,
Cons: Right handle grip was broken upon delivery, the touch screen tablet had issues, constantly errors out and you have to factory reset. Also, the right leg feels loose and needs attention but I can use it no problem, just have to keep in mind where your right foot is in the pedal. With the current health crisis, no warranty servicing is going on so I am assuming that it will be fully repaired at some point, but until then it is tough to give it higher marks.

Assembly took about 1.5 hours. Fan shuts off within a minute of turning it on, that's annoying, I quit using the fan. The IFIt program works well. The machine is quiet and seems built well enough to last awhile. The on off switch is on the floor in front of the machine by the power cord, it is inconvenient at best to turn on and off. I rate it average overall.

DaveS,
thanks for your feedback! We are happy to hear you are enjoying iFit and that your machine seems built to last. The fan on your elliptical has an auto setting. With this setting selected, the speed of the fan will automatically increase or decrease as your pedaling speed increases or decreases. When the pedals are no longer moved for a while, the fan will turn off automatically.
We want to make sure you are fully satisfied and that your fan is properly working. Please contact us directly at: [email protected] if you have further questions or concerns.
Thanks! - ICON Health & Fitness

I was really excited about this elliptical, the build quality is very good and it wasn't a complete pain to put together. But, after a week of use I wanted to use a standard onboard workout rather than one of the iFit coach-led workouts and for the life of me could not find anything resembling a programmed workout activity (like 5-minute cycles of varying resistance or fat-burn) on the integrated tablet. The husband and I (both with IT backgrounds) spent an entire hour attempting to access anything that wasn't iFit and ended up completely stymied.
Figuring this is a pricey machine, maybe there was an update and it's an easy fix? Nope. An hour (including wait time) with Proform customer support and they tell me every workout on the machine is now iFit and there are no pre-programmed workouts from Proform - if I have an issue with the workouts I need to contact iFit. So I contact iFit and they tell me that onboard workouts are provided by Proform and iFit has nothing to do with those. Go back to Proform with this information and customer service again points me to iFit - the infuriating not-my-problem-loop. So I have a $2,000 elliptical that can only be used with iFit programming (the service costs ~$300 a year after the one year trial) with zero built-in functionality outside of manual mode.
Some research shows that the prior versions of this model had physical buttons to initiate onboard workouts like fat burn and cardio with multiple options of each. It looks like this iteration may have done away with those entirely while the branding (it says on the machine it has 34 workouts) stayed consistent with prior versions.
Unless something changes in the immediate future, this thing is going back.

Hi Amanda, I'm sorry for the confusion on the 34 on-board workouts. I'm afraid someone gave you some bad information. The on-board workouts run independent of the iFit subscription and the only thing it requires on this "smart" elliptical is an internet connection in order to use them. There should be a button on the console that allows you to pick different exercises including maps.

We've had this for 5 months, and love it. We had one issue with the screen not turning on one day, but called customer service and they walked us through the fix in a matter of 20 minutes. Was very pleased with the interaction with the online rep. The elliptical has very smooth stride and isn't very loud (compared to my treadmill!). I did not think I would use the iFit programs, but have really enjoyed visiting Scotland, Portugal, Hawaii, the Grand Canyon, etc. So glad I made this purchase.

I basically purchased this for my wife. She is able to exercise without the problem of uneven surfaces and pot holes on our County Roads. She has been doing extremely well.
I, too, have begun to to some workouts on it. I love the smooth mechanized flow of the elliptical and it seems to be doing me some good as well.
The only problem I had was removing it from the box and setting it up. Being mid-70s and without any help from the delivery personnel due to COVID-19, it took me more than a couple minutes to maneuver the almost 300# machine to its desired location. Through ingenuity I was able to set it is motion and enjoy it.

A sturdy piece of equipment. It has several stored training programs and the manual setting if you do not want to use the IFit service. I have been using this elliptical for 2 months now everyday for 90 minutes per workout without any equipment problems. So far....so good.

As soon as the unit was put together upon delivery, the unit:
1) failed to stay on for more than 5 minutes at a time. I had to start it after it turned off due to "inactivity" even though I was continually pedaling. So I could only work out only about 5 minutes at a time.
2) failed to change resistance while it was working during the 5 minutes. It stayed on at a high resistance even though it was set at level 1. The resistance level could not be changed at all.
I called customer service, and the CS rep told me to take apart the elliptical to fix the problems.
From the very first day I received the unit, the CS from Proform wanted me to fix the brand new elliptical that basically was delivered totally useless and defectivel!
Totally ridiculous!
So disappointed.

With having the gyms closed I was really looking for a cardio device the was similar to the life cycle machine that I use in the gym. Epic fail to say the least. This product just wasn’t worth the price for me. The machine isn’t good for someone with bad knees and is difficult to set up a user profile. It’s a No for me.

The biggest problem of this elliptical is the software - constantly crashes, freezes, can't install updates. Customer service is also very unreliable!

Setup was not terribly long, and I was able to assemble it solo. A strong wifi connection is required for the iFit content, but aside from that, the elliptical performs perfectly.

This machine is a very solid product. The flywheel is 32lbs and this makes a huge difference. I tried ones with 25lb flywheel and there is a HUGE difference!
