It prevents the need and expense for having separate units for each format. It actually replaces my obsolete DVD player with a dying and totally obsolete battery pack.

If I want to watch a movie in bed or just go off somewhere by myself to watch something my wife wouldn't like, this makes it possible.

I’ve had better speakers in a cheap computer. The picture is great. Battery life is good for about 3.5 to 4 hours. Very user friendly. The screen size and resolution are nice. Just listen to it through good headphones and enjoy. I would say it’s worth the investment.

Overpriced, noisy and has issues

I use as a stand alone with Bose over-the-ear noise canceling headphones and the hiss when playback begins can be a bit overwhelming, though not terribly distracting when voice and background music are playing. Make sure you note where you leave your current DVD if not finished because Auto Resuming does not seem to work even though I’ve confirmed that option is on, and finding the setting for it is not intuitive at all; I need to consult the manual again before committing to returning to manufacturer. FYI, my coworker has the exact same unit under different label and he says his auto resume works, but sound is still an issue.

Hope it holds up past the 2 year add-on warranty I purchased with it. I had excellent experience with my previous SONY Blu Ray portable. Picture quality, audio and functions all work fine. Only room for improvement is to have back lighting on the remote. Even glow in the dark would help. But, both features are rare or typically unavailable on these levels of DVD/CD players. Overall quality is very good.
