Compact, sturdy and effective in small areas
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Coming from a household that’s only ever used large, compressor-based dehumidifiers to keep basements dry in the summer, I admit I was skeptical of a unit this small. I’ve been curious about these thermoelectric dehumidifiers for awhile now, as someone who lives in a one-bedroom apartment with a walk-in closet that is not well-served by the central AC. I usually leave my closet door open for airflow, but after adopting a cat, I had to start leaving the door shut to keep a curious kitten out of trouble. I put a thermo-hygrometer in the closet to keep track of temperature and humidity, and found that even with the AC set at a constant 72 my closet tended to be both warmer and slightly damp. I like to keep the humidity under 60% so mold and mildew don’t grow, and with the door shut all the time I found the closet humidity reading edging a little too close to 60% for my liking. Setting my AC to 80 when I was gone for a long period of time would be sure to send the closet humidity readings north of 60%. Enter the Pure Enrichment PureDry Deluxe. This little unit uses small fans and a thermoelectric setup to extract water from the air, and is advertised as being designed for smaller rooms like bedrooms, bathrooms and closets. I figured this would be the perfect type of unit to test in my closet, which is about 33 square feet and has no ventilation other than the crack under the door. The PureDry is even smaller in person than it looks in photos. It comes fully assembled and offers touch-style digital controls for power, fan speed and a 4/8 hour timer. It uses a regular two-prong polarized plug and has a decent-sized water reservoir with an automatic float shutoff as well as a hookup for a small drain hose (to enable constant use). Setup was a breeze: I simply unwrapped the PureDry, plugged it in and turned it on. Air enters through a large grille on the back of the unit and exits through smaller grilles on either side and the top corners. The unit defaults to high speed when you first turn it on, so using low speed requires a tap of a touch-sensitive button. The unit will run continuously until it’s full, or you can tap the timer button to have it automatically shut off after 4 or 8 hours (or sooner, if it were to fill up). While running, the PureDry sounds like a computer under heavy load, and I’m sure the fans inside probably are computer fans. It’s certainly audible on high, a little less so on low, but fan noise is all you can hear (no compressor cycling as on a full-size dehumidifier). Standing next to my closet with the door shut I can barely hear the PureDry on high, and can’t hear a thing on low. To see how the PureDry performed, I ran it for 8 hours on low one day followed by 8 hours on high the next day, taking care to keep the door shut as much as possible. I recorded the temperature and humidity readings every hour while the unit ran, and then measured how much water it collected. The first day, on low, the PureDry managed to reduce the relative humidity by 5.1% (from 56.9% to 51.8%) while raising the temperature about 5 degrees and collecting 22 ml of water. On day two, running on high, the PureDry lowered the humidity about 4% (from 54.4% to 50.4%) while raising the temperature 3 degrees and collecting 55 ml of water. While this wasn’t a tightly-controlled experiment, and the second day was cooler outside and the closet started at a lower humidity reading, I was impressed to see the PureDry managed to reduce the humidity levels both days. Even better, I was glad to see a meaningful difference in water collection between low and high, with the PureDry collecting 150% more water on the high setting. I can see why the unit defaults to high when you turn it on, as it’s definitely more effective. The main drawback for me is that with the door shut, the PureDry noticeably increases the temperature by 3-4 degrees over 8 hours. I would expect the temperature might rise even more if I were gone for those 8 hours and my AC was at 80 instead of 72. That being said, it certainly doesn’t generate as much heat and noise as a full-size dehumidifier, and any dehumidifier running in a small, enclosed closet space is going to heat things up. Overall, this is a well-built unit that can keep humidity levels in check in smaller spaces. It has nowhere near the power of a full-size, compressor-based dehumidifier, but it’s much smaller and quieter. I plan to set it on the 8-hour timer on days I’m in the office, which should keep humidity in my closet at reasonable readings while my AC is set to 80 to save energy. Definitely do your research about these thermoelectric dehumidifiers before you purchase one, but PureDry’s well-built unit and 5-year warranty should land it on your short list.

Pure Enrichment PureDry Deluxe 1.5L Dehumidifier
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just received my Pure Enrichment - PureDry Deluxe 1.5L Dehumidifier a few days ago and I am impressed at how powerful this little machine is. First off, it arrived just in time for the most humid time of the year. And when being away from home at long extended times, or simply because its that time of year, having an amazing dehumidifer like the PureDry Deluxe is a must. Right out of the box, this dehumifier is ready to go. And it's so simple and easy to use. Before I get into how to use this (which is simple), I must speak on how nice this thing looks. It's design is very solid and does not feel cheap at all. On top are 3 buttons: * 4H / 8H - this button is a timer button that you can set for either 4 hours or 8 hours of runtime. At which time, the machine will automatically shut itself off. * Power - this is pretty self explanatory. This is what starts your machine up. * L / H - this button refers to how low and high speed of the fan and how fast it collects the water out of the air. On the L setting you can barely hear the fan, but you will hear it on the H setting. However, for me at least, its easy to tune it out At the back of the dehumidifier is the resevoir tank where the water is collected and stored to be poured out when full. The machine will shut itself off when its ready to be emptied and the Power button LED will change from blue to red. So being its pratically summer, and everyone is finally coming out of quarantine, there will be lots of trips taken and lots of people can't afford to leave their AC units running all day, especially when they're not at home. Which means, its most likely will become very hot and humid in our homes. This dehumidifer is ready to do the work and make your home comfortable and less humid. I love the fact that we can set it to run either for 4 hours or 8 hours and it turns itself off, or just hitting the power button and letting it run for as long as it needs until the tank fills up; at which point you simply just empty the tank and keep it going for as long as you need to. Over the last few days this has made our living room, more enjoyable to sit an relax in, especially with all of the direct sunlight that comes into our house. Our home starts to get extremely humid in the late mornings to the early evenings, and our AC Unit is working overtime it seems sometimes just to cool the living room down some.
