|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I own houses in New York and Florida, and I drive up and down the east coast frequently. So, the chances of getting pulled over for exceeding the speed limit are enhanced. Not that I drive like a madman, but I have been known to go over the limit on occasion. Hopefully, this Radenso DS1 Radar Detector will help me avoid an expensive ticket and higher insurance rates. Upon opening the box, I was pleased to see a canvased hard case to store the detector in. That will help prevent damage to the device when stored in the glovebox or console. The second thing I noticed was the USB-C port, which allowed me to set up the device right out of the box, inside my house. It’ll also come in handy when I have to upgrade the firmware. Applying the suction cup on my windshield was easy. Taking it off, not so much. This thing really attaches itself to the window. And I applied mine in cold weather, when suction cups generally don’t adhere to glass very well. There is a magnet that attaches the detector to the mount. Be sure you attach it correctly, if not your detector will fall from the mount and end up in your lap while you’re going 70 MPH. If you attach it correctly, you should be good. If you choose to, you can just leave the mount attached to your windshield all the time, but you could be providing probable cause for a thief to break into your car. The display on the detector offers a clock that is easy to read. In the upper left corner, you’ll see your current speed and compass direction you’re traveling. There is a mute button on the front of the detector. The cable also has a mute button as well as an extra USB port (Very convenient!). I love the GPS lockout feature! My regular commute takes me past a large grocery store. My old detector would start squawking without fail. This detector has a GPS Lockout feature. It remembers the location of regular false alerts and after a few passes, will lock them out. If you’ve ever driven along the eastern seaboard, you’re keenly aware that radar detectors are illegal in the State of Virginia. I’ve always had to turn off my detector when driving through that state. This detector professes to be undetectable to radar guns. I have no idea how accurate that is, I’ve heard the police can detect your undetectable detector, if you’re driving at a slower speed (like on certain country roads). Personally, I’m not going to roll the dice on this one, and plan on turning off my detector when traveling through Virginia. If you get away with it, please let me know. I’ve owned several radar detectors in my life, some good, some worthless. This seems to be the real deal. Although it still picks up the signals from cars using lane assist, I don’t get as many as I used to. The Radenso DS1 is a nice unit with several nice features. If you travel on highways often, it could save you from a day-ruining ticket. Highly recommended.

Very Advanced, Lots of Features, Goes off A LOT
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Redenso DS1 is billed as one of the most technologically advanced devices on the market, and that appears to be mostly true, with a number of features and detection methods that outshine other radar detectors on the market. However, my ability to best assess its effectiveness is tempered by the constant alerts and alarms, going off nearly non-stop when no police are around, for reasons I’ll guess on later. First the pros: Redenso went a long way to making a great device, from its multi-color, user-selectable display to the magnetic attachment that allows you to easily remove the device from your window to keep thieves away to the silence button attached to the power plug, it’s clear thought went into designing the unit. And for me it’s the GPS integration & alert lockout features are probably the best part of the unit (covered shortly). The display is crystal clear, and you can cycle through to select your preferred color, or disable to display (except for a small dot to let you know it’s on) until it alerts. Direction (N, W, NE, etc.) are displayed as well as current speed. The device can pick up every possible type of speed detection out there, including the standard X, K, and Ka radar bands, as well as laser, MRCD, and Gatso (commonly used with red light cameras and speed cameras). This, however, comes with pros and cons, again covered later. You can control the settings from the 4 buttons on top of the unit, though it is a lot easier to use the Redenso Nexus app and update settings using Bluetooth. Settings include the ability to turn on/off certain bands, change sensitivity settings, alert sounds, etc. One of the biggest features is its GPS integration and ability to “learn” as you drive. Let’s say you come across one of those “Your Speed Is” signs every day on your drive to work. You know it’s not a police officer, it’s just that sign setting the device off and you don’t want to be bothered. You can manually lock the alert out with the silence button, but if you don’t the device itself will realize, “Hey, that’s the same radar type, frequency, and location, let me lock that out for you.” Lockouts will alert one audible blip then with a “Lockout” or “Auto Lockout” message on the display. Likewise, regular updates will update the internal GPS crowdsourced list to alert you in advance of a red light camera or stationary speed camera location, even before it detects a signal. So the cons: Depending on where you drive, it goes off CONSTANTLY. In the city I routinely drive in it appears they use K band radar mounted to light poles and traffic lights to detect traffic presence and speed. This means that the radar is going off in large swaths of the city, so it’s hard to determine whether you’re approaching a police trap or it’s the speed detectors (noting that most police departments use Ka band, but some do still use older K band devices). Turning off K band altogether just means you won’t be alerted at all, which can be a risk. I found that turning down the sensitivity didn’t help, so it’s a lot of manually silencing the unit. The device also picks up on signals from MRCD and even Gatso in areas where I know those aren’t in use, and was never able to determine where it was coming from. The device did alert several times for Ka band, the band usually used by modern police radar units, but not once saw an officer. So I was unable to tell whether it was a bad alert or a very, very well hidden officer. But the constant alerts are not only annoying, but also desensitizes you to alerts that may very well be legitimate. I felt like I was in a fast food restaurant where the fries are dinging but everyone is ignoring it. In Summary: This unit is a very technologically advanced and capable device. The GPS learning and lockouts are great, and the multitudes of detection make this a single unit to solve all potential speed detection devices. Do your research on the types of radar in the areas you drive and know what you can turn off or decrease the sensitivity on to minimize false alerts.

Doesn't scare you to death
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a frequent traveler to the surrounding states, I am very familiar with radar detectors and the usually overwhelming negative aspects. Prior to the Radenso, of course. Upon unboxing, you can tell that Radenso takes pride in their product. Everything is well packed and protected. In addition, there is a case for when you want to dismount the unit. Personally I keep mine attached all the time since my travels require me to do so. This product excels where previous have failed miserably. First of all, what is generally overlooked by other companies is the mount. I can't tell you how many times I've gone down the interstate and had previous models "bounce" off and take my phone (mounted below) with it. Not so with the Radenso. I don't know how they did it, but this mount has an EXTREMELY strong bond via the suction cup and magnet. It's not going anywhere. Second, most companies give you one to maybe three tones if they are generous. Those usually include the useless "Pardon me, you can barely hear me I'm being polite" beep, to the "I hope you didn't just eat mexican food, because my shrill tone is going to scare the....." tone. Radenso gives you many options. And thankfully there are multiple that WILL get your attention, but WON'T scare the mexican food out of you - ifyouknowwhatImean. The options for bands seem very impressive. If you take the time, the Radenso can be extensively tweaked. But right out of the box, it works just fine for me. I love the clock display and current speed. I have always been able to see it, even on very clear, very sunny days. I got "hit" twice. One thing I learned, is that law enforcement devices have a long reach. And thankfully the Radenso picked up on them immediately. Saving my butt from an annoying day if the officer wanted to pursue it (not talking about crazy speeds, maybe 2-8MPH over the interstate limit). I always drive responsibly, but sometimes during long trips, you do occasionally and unintentionally go over by a few MPH. Again, the Radenso let me know what was up and saved my butt. To compare, in the audio world their are budget stereos, and audiophile grade. In my opinion, Radenso have produced a high quality, high performing detector, which makes me think of all competitors as being cheap budget/economy grade units. Don't let the fact that this unit is highly customizable scare you off. In my opinion, it serves the first time buyer/user of such devices as well as it does the advanced user. I personally put all my trust in Radenso at this point. They have definitely proven to me that they produce a high quality product.

Works Great, All Settings Customizable
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the first time I've purchased a radar detector, and when I opened the box and looked at the User Manual it looked complicated, overwhelming, and intimidating, to say the least. I started Googling some of the terms like "radar bands" and found that Radenso actually has a section on their website called Radar University. If you're new to radar detectors, It's MUST reading. It'll enable you to intelligently customize the settings on the DS1 to your driving environment and personal preferences. All the settings can be customized which is really a great feature. My driving environment is a sprawling metropolitan area with lots of strip malls and shopping areas, ripe with K and X band false alerts, so I've turned those alerts off (See Radar University for explanations) even though with the built in GPS the unit will eventually learn to mute them. I've come to really love the Red Light Camera alerts. I thought red light cameras were on more intersections than they actually are. Now I know at which intersections I have to slam on the brakes when I'm at that "do I or don't I" point when the light turns yellow. I actually haven't had any Ka band alerts yet, but I have peace of mind knowing that I'll be alerted when approaching any speed traps. You get a voice alert and flashing and beeping that identify the type signal as you approach any detected signal source. The display on the unit is bright and sharp, easily readable, and the colors for everything displayed can be changed to suit tastes. The voice announcements are clear. The unit comes with a coiled power cord that plugs into your car's 12V outlet. If you want to hard wire the power supply, that power connection has to be purchased separately. A powerful suction cup is used to mount the unit to the windshield and the unit attaches to the suction cup and is held in place by a powerful magnet making it easy to remove. A very nice hard cover zip up carrying case is included. At night I remove the unit from the windshield, put it in the case, and lock it in my glovebox so it's out of sight. Overall I'm thrilled with the operation, performance, and peace of mind I've gotten out of this DS1 and probably will never drive without one again.

Great modern detector.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a small, no frills device. It has a bright and easy to read display. There’s a mute button next to the display, the menu buttons on top, and a USB C power connection. I really like the mount. The suction cup has a bit of stickiness that helps it stay in place when you lock it down, but is easily removed. The unit attaches to the mount with a magnet so it’s easy to detach and store away. I wish the power cable wasn’t the pigtail style. It looks bulky and can’t be tucked away or hidden. The power adapter also has a mute button for easier access and an extra usb charging port. It also comes with a carrying case, but it’s only big enough for the unit and not the mount or power adapter. You can really customize a lot of the settings, like the display color, color indicator and sound for each band, turn each on/off, to filtering and adjusting the detection strength. If the alerts get too annoying, you can mute it with a press of the button. I don’t know much about the different bands and their frequencies, so I just left it at default. In my use, it hasn’t gone off too much that it needs to be adjusted. Once you’re used to the alert tones for the bands, you can turn off the voice prompts. It has a GPS feature that if it detects a band at the same location three times, it will auto mute at that spot. It can also be updated to keep the database of redlights and speed cameras current. I haven’t had a radar detector in some time, and this has come a long way from those days. You get a lot of customization and location based smart features. My usage is pretty basic, but it’s good to have the options to adjust the alerts and display to my needs.

Phenomenal!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Radenso DS1 is seriously phenomenal. I've never had radar detector with this much range, particularly for Ka band. In fact, it has the best Ka range on the market! But the thing I love the most is the GPS lockout feature. It detects stationary false alerts you pass by day after day and learns to lock them out...no need to press Mute. But there's much more to like. The magnetic windshield mount is super easy to use and removing the unit is simple and fast. I also like the fact that radar detector detectors can't find it. The DS1 has bluetooth and connects to an app, at least for Android. It doesn't work for my Pixel 6 Pro, but I'm guessing the app will be updated soon to fix the issue. The app gives you easy access to all the settings on the DS1 and is makes it easier to navigate through the settings menu. It also allows you to update the firmware on the DS1. Overall, except for the app issue, I am very pleased with the Radenso DS1. Seriously long range, GPS lockouts and low speed auto muting, magnetic mount, updateable firmware, radar detector stealth. Loaded with features and does everything it says it will do.

Slick and Easy to Use
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The unit is small, light and well made. Setup can be done on the unit or through the mobile app. Updates can be downloaded on the app or by connecting to a PC. I like that the display can be set to dark or with scanning, speed and compass displayed. The display and separate alerts can be configured with different colors. Alerts have been accurate and the voice and audible tones are clear and loud. The magnetic mount makes removal super easy and a nice device case is included. This unit looks great, is easy to use and focuses on providing excellent radar notifications. I contacted support one time concerning the app installation and they were nice, knowledgeable and resolved my question quickly. I highly recommend you consider this brand for providing an overall pleasant experience.

The Best Radar Dectector
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First impression: My first impression of the Radenso DS1 is one of excitement. It feels like a very solid radar detector that can withstand mobile use. The buttons are solid, the case is solid, and the power adapter is very well made with strong cabling and a USB-C connector (finally!), not the cheap thin wired, micro-USB cables that come with so many consumer products nowadays. The carry case is very strong and at the same time, beautiful. It is hard sided with a carbon fiber look and a leather name plate on top. So right out of the gate, Radenso has impressed me with a radar detector system that screams quality, elegance, and beauty, a combination that is rarely achieved with products that are also affordable. Setup: You can plug in the radar detector right out of the box and receive good protection in most places. But Radenso has given us an extensive menu system to be able to precisely configure the detector for your area. This is a good thing but can also be overwhelming. If you use the buttons on the detector to configure it, it is easy to get lost and could be easy to miss a category all together. This is not a problem with the Radenso DS1, but a problem with any device that gives you so many settings to configure. Radenso recognized this and gave us the Radenso Nexus app, available for both Android and Apple IOS. The app is small, easy to install, and gives you access to every setting in a clean, easy to navigate menu system. Using this app, I had my DS1 completely configured in 5 minutes after installation. Using the app requires Bluetooth connection, and the manual doesn’t address this. To pair the detector to the app: 1. Turn on Bluetooth on your phone. 2. Open the Radenso Nexus app. 3. On the detector, press Menu > User Preferences > BT > Select On. 4. Then go to Menu > User Preferences > BT Pairing> Select on. 5. Then go back to the app and follow directions. On my DS1, I set the display color to blue, I set different colors for different bands when alerted, different tones for different bands when alerted, adjusted filtering, set my home, and others. I love how adjustable this Radar Detector is. Using the DS1: When I installed the DS1 in my truck, I realized just how much thought Radenso put into the unit. The detector is held on the mount with magnets and gravity. I have other devices that use magnets, and it’s the worst thing they did. My dash cam uses magnets so strong that it pulls the mount off the windshield because the magnets won’t let go. The DS1 uses magnets but holds the unit in place with edge supports and gravity. Removing the DS1 is as simple as lifting the front of the unit, but humps and rough roads won’t cause it to fall. The Radar Detector worked great on the road. Unlike my last radar detector, the DS1 isn’t as prone to interference. And I noticed over a three-day period that one of the stores no longer set the detector off. However, on every occasion that I came up on police or highway patrol, the detector went off quickly and much earlier than my old and now replaced radar detector. With heavy construction and police presence, the DS1 performed beautifully. My other detectors would have been nothing but a noise maker. Conclusion: I have been using radar detectors ever since I could drive. My first radar detector was the original “Fuzz Buster”, so that tells you how old I am. Radar detectors have made great progress with filtering and configurability, but none of the current ones were good enough for me to use daily. My last one was more of a Walgreen’s detector than a radar detector. But Radenso has changed that, and I am now going to buy the permanent install kit and mount it permanently in my truck. The Radenso DS1 is not just an excellent Radar Detector, but obviously a Radar detector made by a company who cares about excellent quality, but also by a company of people who use radar detectors. The DS1 is an excellent radar detector with an amazing amount of control of the user experience by allowing us to tailor the unit to our own preferences. It detects and alerts police radar sooner than the others I have used and does a great job right out of the box. If you want or need a radar detector, I highly recommend the Radenso DS1. Matter of fact, the DS1 is the only radar detector that I recommend.

Excellent!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I must admit, this is the first radar detector I have owned in a number of years. But even with that said, this is an excellent detector. From an external point of view, it's pretty standard looking. Small enough, super lightweight, suction cup holds better than most on my windshield. Screen is bright & easy to read and has plenty of customization available for color. I like that the power cord has a mute button and an extra USB slot so I can charge my phone as well. I will say, however, that the cord could stand to be longer. Not a big issue, but something to be aware of. Where this really shines is the amount of band configurations you can change using the app. This to me is the biggest difference between this detector and the old school ones. No more "press here while holding here" while trying to go thru the menus. Configuring this unit might take some trial & error depending on where you live, but it's all easy to accomplish with the app. Now for what's most important, how well does it work? Well, from my testing I would say great! It's not always easy to know how well a radar detector is working unless you know there is an officer using radar out there somewhere. I'm lucky ( I think :-) ) in that I have several spots around town where you can often find the state patrol sitting & waiting. So over the past week, I've made a point to travel in those locations. Without fail, the Radenso picked them up before I could even see them. So I would say that's working well :-) There are also several locations with the digital "your speed" signs and it picks them up every time as well. To be honest, I'm not really a fast driver. But at the same time it doesn't hurt to have a radar detector to help "remind" you of your speed. So at the end of the day all can say is that we should all be driving at safe speeds to begin with. But, if you fell you would benefit from a radar detector to help save your wallet, this is a great option :-)

Novice user but love it-Seems to work well.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall I’m far from a professional when it comes to maters of radar or lidar, so upon getting this I had to do an extensive amount of research to learn about it. That said the biggest points relating to this is that the 3 primary bands in the US are X, K, and Ka. This detector seems to handle all 3 just fine. X is an older technology which is mostly used in rural areas, or areas where department budgets have prevented equipment upgrades. K is the most common of the 3 which is not only used in law enforcement equipment but also found in more common commercial/consumer sources making the band less desirable. Ka is the newest technology being used to replace the 2 aforementioned bands. There are an additional number of bands or sub bands that operate in or within the same range as the previously mentioned, but getting into the technicalities of everything would turn this review into a research paper. I will add that this unit featured a Ku band, but from my understanding this isn’t something that's used in the United States. Turning off a specific band is also a possibility. But there is actually a huge number of settings to go through. Which is my only complaint. Settings are buried under menus of more settings, going through them to find something is a chore and a good way to burn daylight. So don’t expect to have this configured to your area 10 minutes before heading off for work. You’ll easily spend 30 minutes going thorough the menus and adjusting the things you know. If you’re like me, going in blind, be prepared to devote 1+ hour. Navigating the menus then researching the settings will together take most of your time. Then once you’ve figured what everything does you’ll spend more time running trial and errors in your area with your normal commutes. There is no easy mode “one size fits all” setting with this thing. So just be aware of that fact.

GPS is a nice addition
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Configuration inside the app is quite easy. The controls through the menu are not overly intuitive. Definitely pair with your phone if you plan on doing anything but default settings. The alerts seem to be getting smarter, egg McMuffins no longer set off the detector. Basically, driving by fast food does not alert. The mount is quite nice and after you figure it out works fantastically. Don't have to fight with it to remove from the magnetic mount. Really impressed, a lot of functionality at the price point. Impressive. Unfortunately I have not had an opportunity to take a highway trip with the device yet. But it adjusts based on vehicle speed as to the bands it monitors. The GPS picks up the direction and vehicle speed flawlessly.

Best One Yet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having used multiple brands of detectors this was my first opportunity using Radenso. I'll say first, once you attach it to the windshield, rest assured you know it's not going to slide or fall off the glass. Very easy installation as far as that goes. It easily depicts between the various bands and the fact you can select colors for each make it that much easier to read and identify what is being picked up. The display 8s bright and clear and while day light I wish it was a bit brighter; it's still perfectly readable. The synch with GPS is also another very cool feature and keeps everything together as far as your surroundings. The directions are easy to follow just take your time going over them if you are a new user.

Long range detection and great features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using the Radenso DS1 for a couple of weeks now and have been quite impressed with the range it can detect "threats" as compared to the older unit it replaced. On long stretches of interstate I have gotten warnings easily three times longer than before, giving me more than adequate time to check my speed. It seems to work equally as well for radar approaching from behind which has actually saved me twice already. This unit has tons of options for the display and the menu can seem daunting at first. However, spending just a few minutes digging around got it set to exactly the color and information to be displayed that I preferred (blue to match the interior lights, displaying time, speed, and direction of travel). The front facing mute button is large and easy to reach. I have used the mute button built into the plug when my wife or daughter is driving since they aren't used to having detectors in their vehicles. The warnings are clear and even include a visual and verbal indication of what band is being detected which can help sort out false alarms. The auto-lockout feature has been one of my absolute favorites though as I pass the same areas each day which give false alerts. The DS1 figures those out after three passes and will automatically mute the alert while showing the autolockout indicator on the display. The only two things I could possibly say negative about the DS1 are that the time does not automatically change when crossing into different time zones (which is odd considering it has built-in GPS) and if the sun is low in the sky behind you the display can be completely washed out and totally unusable. Those are minor gripes and neither is a reason to take a star away from the otherwise stellar performance of the DS1. I would also note the mounting bracket is relatively large and takes some getting used to but it holds better than any I've used in the past. When installing the first time, be sure to stretch the cord some if your plug is a fair distance away from the mounting location. Because the detector itself attaches magnetically to the windshield mount, the pressure from the cord can actually disengage it if you don't.

Impressed by the range!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have never owned a detector in the past, and I wanted to give this a try after reading many great things about Radenso radars. This radar has already potentially saved me from one stop, and just for that, I am already grateful. I have set mine up by my review mirror and I like that it’s very discrete and stealth. Here is my review based on two weeks of use: Quality – 5/5 Without question, this is a 5/5 for me. The built and the accessories that come with this are built with quality in mind. This does not look nor feel cheap. From the cable to the sucky cup. Range – 5/5 I have never own a detector so I cannot compare it to other ones when it comes to range, but I was very satisfied with how this performed when I was driving in some mountain roads. I was driving on curvy roads and without being able to see the cop, the detector began warning me from a few turns before I got to see the copy. For me, this did! I give it a 5/5 because it warned from a location where I couldn’t even see the cop and there were turns. Not sure how it did that but it did it! Very happy! Display – 4/5 It’s bright enough, but I think it could be a little brighter. I like that it comes with color options, but I prefer to keep the default red. Features – 5/5 It’s so full of features that I am still trying to understand all of them, but my favorite feature is that it silences common commercial doors or speed traps on my commute to work and this is great because I don’t want to keep hearing these false alarms. Another great feature is the speed cams!

Nice!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had mixed thoughts on radar detectors as I consider myself a careful driver. However, I guess no one knows when your 2 miles excess might be viewed differently, especially while traveling, The radar detector was packaged with a really compact, nice case which can hold the wire with power adapter, The bracket cannot fit as well.. The whole assembly seems sturdy and well built. I did not like that the bracket has a sticky base vs a traditional suction. I tend to not leave my radar in one car and like to carry it or transfer it between cars. The sticky base makes it more difficult and leaves a ring on my window. The power cord has a USB out on top for an additional device which is definitely nice. The radar unit has a nice bright pixel type display. Sufficient for the purpose. Easy to use menu and lots of options. I like the speed display and over-speed alert I was very impressed with how well it worked. Most radar detectors i've used are very noisy, and sometimes hard to tell if it's an alert or 'noise'. This one seemed refined and more accurate. Very pleased so far.
