Customers are saying

Customers recognize the Kishi controller's ease of use and generally positive build quality, frequently praising its convenient USB-C port and compact design. However, some users experienced compatibility issues with certain games and phones, noting that the fit wasn't ideal for all devices. While many found the controller responsive, some criticisms focused on the feel of the triggers and D-pad.

This thing really is great. This version functions identically to the Xbox branded one, but tends to be cheaper. The main difference is cosmetic, but it's a small adjustment to realize A is red on this controller while it's green on an Xbox one. The way it expands to fit your phone and collapses for storage works surprisingly well. But buttons feel solid. The sticks work well and can be clicked in. The triggers are well placed and the back ones are analog. I put my Google Pixel 3a in it and it worked instantly. No messing around with anything and the pass-through charging worked perfectly. The most obvious use for this is GamePass. Works perfectly. But any game that uses a controller on Android functions well. I was holding off on this because my main system is PlayStation. I was having a lot of trouble with Sony's official app not even fully recognizing my PS4 controllers. But I looked into it and found an app called PSPlay on the Google Play store. It's cheap and it worked. But most importantly, it works with this controller. If you have PSPlay and this controller, you can stream anything from your PS4 or PS5. I just played Yakuza 5 on my phone with this. So really, with a little work it can be used for most gaming situations. Totally worth it.

I have to lead this off by saying I've been excited by the Razer Kishi since I read about it months ago. The ability to add a legitimate controller to the phone that properly supports it and gives you almost a handheld console feel is a pretty cool idea to me. To start, the packaging is unassuming. It comes in a small Razer green and black box with no extra pomp or circumstance. I can appreciate this, there's no real need to go to excess with packaging. Setup is very straightforward. Provided your phone is supported (mine is, I have a Galaxy S10+), you just pop it on your phone and you're done. There is a Kishi app but it does not seem to be required for the controller to function, just to manage some basic settings and act as a game launcher. Honestly, I dont need another launcher, so most of the app is somewhat useless to me. I started by trying to play some games like Asphalt 9 and some others, but the thing about them is that most phone games are not built to take advantage of a controller. You would think that a driving game is, but it is not, most of the steering and such is actually done by the game and you just tap right or left to make decisions. This is not an uncommon scenario, so in many cases a controller is somewhat of an overkill for most phone-based games. I will tell you where this DOES excel though. Steam Link. Provided you have a PC sufficient enough to run some steam games, then you can use Steam Link to play them remotely on your phone. Steam Link appears to natively recognize the controller and even tells you which buttons to press for navigation. Playing controller based games through Steam Link makes for a very good experience. It responds well and looks great. So why 4 stars? The idea is great, don't get me wrong, but this first implementation has some oddities to it. It is touted as sliding apart to allow for the phone to pop into it, however it is held closed by a plastic plate on the back with 4 very small plastic pegs. First, opening it is oddly difficult, it doesn't slide, but rather you open some locks (difficultly) and unfold rather than slide it just to get the pegs pulled out of the unit. Second, the pegs themselves are going to break. With the design and cheap feel of those plastic pegs, I can basically promise they will eventually break. Third, the strap that connects the back of the controller together is floppy, it is again unexpected, as I was expecting a mechanical slide, but it is a spring loaded strap. You can see the strap and pegs in the picture without the phone attached. All in all it's a great first design and works very well with things like Steam Link. Usage in many phone games will be limited although I am sure there will be some that it works just fine with.

Excellent controller for platform with minor flaws

Dust particles big enough to distract me during gaming started creeping into my aging PSP-2000 and sticking onto its screen from under last night. I knew I definitely needed to fix that to play a fast and frantic platforming shmup like the Metal Slug Anthology. As I took apart my PSP to clean it, I realized I could just extract an image, put it into my phone, and use the Razer Kishi I bought last month. I loaded up the game, started playing, and the Kishi worked very well except when my character would creep forward a little while crouching using the d-pad when I didn't intend it... That's pretty much the story on most platforming intensive games when using this controller. It's a fantastic controller with the one flaw that's been nagging even the big Nintendo with its pro controllers (LOL). This controller is a great fit for probably every phone. It officially supports my super large Galaxy Note 10+, but on the first few times of attaching the controller, I had to fully stretch it (which made me a little weary of breaking the controller). After a few times, it seemed slightly more comfortable to slip the phone into controller and attach the other end. The rubber stops that are already in the controller are removable if you have a case on your phone and would like to keep it on. I wish the Note 10+'s official flipcase was supported, but I guess it would be hard to support every possible case in existence. It works very well on every game I've tried it on so far, from Nintendo 64 emulated first person shooters like Goldeneye, Turok, Perfect Dark and the official Android fps Modern Combat 5 to platformers on the GBA like Metroid and Astro Boy. The buttons press well comparably to official console controllers in existence and the joysticks work like they should. Given the issue aforementioned at the beginning of this review, you can imagine this is not a fighting game favored d-pad and it works merely okay when I tried it out on the PS1 emulated Capcom vs. SNK Pro. The mushy-ness doesn't quite help. Anyone who wants more precision on the d-pad should get a controller from another manufacturer like 8BitDo. I would give it a 4.5/5 if I could but it truly is a great controller aside from the minor issues mentioned. I can see why many Youtube reviewers call it the greatest connected controller for android ever made. At the end of the day though, I'll still very much prefer Sony's old PSP d-pad to play Metal Slug lol.

You don't need the Xbox brand to play with Xbox game pass or stream Xbox game to your phone. Not all android games support controller but most do and have to be configure in settings. Not Bluetooth so there is no lag. It is type c only and fits large phones like a note 9. Have to use phone with out phone case. Easy to travel with and ergonomic. Buttons could be better and have more support in more android games but its up to the game developers not razer fault. Just plug it in and even works in your home screen easy to use.

Before I found out about Kishi, I had this $15 holder that clamps onto Xbox controller and phone. It works and cheap solution, but I feel the weight balance isn't the best and I need to re-pair between Xbox and my phone depends on where I want to play. Then I found this. Just an fyi, there's an updated version for $20 more and it has dedicated Xbox buttons. I don't know if the hardware is different, but I doubt it. As a gaming controller, this is the best solution and handles like Nintendo Switch. The buttons are good enough but can't compare to 1st party Xbox controller. After I remove the black soft plastic inside the controller, I have no issue fitting Samsung Note 20 Ultra with thin clear case. I watched enough YT video and I really not sure spending $80 on this or just keep my current Xbox controller with a clamp. After 5 minutes of using it, I'm a believer and it's a great purchase. Also, this doesn't require battery to operate: simply plug into your phone USB-C port. Also, because this is not connected via BT, the input lag has been eliminated.

Better controllers with better designs have come since the razer kishi's heyday. Its primary selling point is managing to balance quality with compactness. It does this fairly well however I had to give mine away as it no longer fits my phone. Any phone of similar or greater size to the Galaxy S22 ultra is completely incompatible with this device unless you're willing to take substantial risks with your over 1K phone. If you have a phone of that size tier or greater I recommend you look elsewhere. Additionally if you don't care about size there are much more ergonomic controllers that do this controllers job better and are more compatible with phone cases. The only thing that this has going over most of those is that it uses a USB C connection instead of Bluetooth which does cut down on input latency. However all of that is irrelevant if you can't use the darn thing

It does what I had hoped. Easy to plug the phone into, opens the xbox app by default. I was able to use a different playstation app to allow me to play psremote as well. Wish it fit the phone while in a case but none of them do so it's fine. Some apps don't recognize the remote but the main 2 worked.

The Razer Kishi gaming controller is great. It kind of stretches to fit your phone but works great for all kinds of games on your phone. It's definitely nice not to have to use your touch screen for everything. Definitely a worthwhile accessory for someone that wants to game on their phone.

Absolutely perfect for Xbox Gamepass, especially for games like Halo Infinite and Forza. Also works wonderfully with Steam Link for streaming your games running from your PC. Very impressed with the quality, although I'd be hard pressed to pay full price for it.

Works flawlessly with USB-C phones that meet the size requirements. If you want a Switch-like experience with your phone, this will do the trick. The clickable control sticks feel better than the cheaper 3rd party stuff. Minor nudges are actually recognized. So check your phone size. If you're willing to pay the price, it will be hard to find something better without getting a full-fledged controller and clip. I wish there was a way to use it with larger screens (like my tablet). I ended up returning it for something that I could use with larger devices. If that's not your thing, then this will be great.

I don't do a lot of mobile gaming, but having access to analog controls on mobile for retro gaming is a must (for me). This fits the bill for the most part. The fitment could be a little better, but having to be accessible for numerous phones, it does as well as it can. The only negative for me is the Bumpers/Triggers. They don't feel as smooth or solid as say, a 360/Xbox One controller, but they're functional.

Great little game controller with no lag whatsoever. Much better than a Bluetooth controller because it connects directly to your charging port. All positives on this one! It is easily adjustable, and fits great with our Samsung S20 phones. Feels good in your hands, and not heavy. It's like playing our Nintendo switch with half the weight. Please note that the phone will not fit with a phone case. You will have to take your phone case off to use, but definitely not a deal breaker. For the price and the functionality, it is well worth it, and you won't be disappointed. Couldn't be happier with this purchase!
