Perfect gaming peripheral for mobile devices

I have had my eye out for a portable gaming console or controller as an option when in places where I needed to kill time waiting around. I just couldn’t justify purchasing an expensive handheld gaming device when I already had a high-end phone that can handle streaming AAA games not on a console. My foldable phone was too big when folded out and too bulky when stacked for the attached gaming controllers I had been looking at unless I wanted to use it as a small monitor with a separate controller which, in some situations, would just be, for lack of a better term, weird. With the latest Razer Kishi Ultra gaming controller, it was the perfect fit for my device and others that we have in our household including our smaller iPad Mini tablet, Google Pixel tablet and other compatible phones. Therefore, this was a no-brainer considering the cost difference between going with the latest semi-expensive handheld consoles or the affordable Kishi Ultra as a peripheral that turns my already existing device into the same, or similar, product using streaming gaming. Once I got my hands on the highly anticipated Kishi Ultra, I was excited to give it a whirl after it was fully charged. I downloaded the Razer Nexus smartphone app and it took me straight to the fun stuff with gaming options from Xbox Game Pass, to Google Play Store and, when attached to my iPad mini, the Apple App Store. I was able to adjust the settings to open the app once my device registered it was plugged into the Kishi Ultra streamlining my gaming. Within the app you can launch your games, customize the buttons on the controller, adjust the RGB settings for the two LED lights on the hand grips of the controller, update the firmware and even sync the app to live-streaming platforms such as Facebook Live and YouTube which were all super convenient. My initial thought was to go straight to one of my favorite AAA games I had been playing on Xbox Game Pass and it loaded up flawlessly without hesitation right to my last save spot. My main concern was how the game would play on mobile devices. I was amazed that I had virtually no lag and the graphics looked incredible, so my fears were immediately squashed. The Kishi Ultra felt ergonomically sound and natural as if I were using a regular gaming console controller. The buttons were positioned in just the right areas and felt similar to console controllers’ buttons. The joysticks and D pad were no different as well and on top of the two trigger buttons you would expect from a console controller, they added another, smaller, button on the top of each side of the controller all of which you can customize in the smartphone application. There is also a home button, screen capture button, options button and power button that all default and act as one would expect if you’re familiar to console controller buttons. Overall, the new Razer Kishi Ultra exceeded my expectations on what it could do with devices I already own at a fraction of the cost compared to other handheld gaming devices and would recommend it to anyone looking for an alternative.

Great controller, not thick case friendly

Very nice controller that fits the ipad mini with folio case well. Only downside is the inability to control ipad volume due to placement of volume rocker and no ability to control via controller. Additionally, if using a case with the ipad you may need to use a spacer since the clamp on the controller would hit the power button and volume up rocker. Fits iphone 15 pro with a rokform case as well but if your case has a thicker bottom to it you may need to purchase an extender since with my case the usb c connection would not snuggly sit in and be detected by the controller. When you are able to get it on and connect, it works wonderfully. Controls feel great and with streaming via gamepass or moonlight. No hall effect joy sticks so not sure how long the sticks will last until stick drift occurs but overall by far the best feeling mobile controller I've used.

For the past few days, I've been testing the new Razer Kishi Ultra. This innovative device transforms your smartphone into a gaming powerhouse. The box includes the XBOX style controller two preinstalled rubber shims and four extra rubber shims. To use it with my phone, I simply downloaded the Razer Nexus app and a game of my choice (I opted for Devil May Cry for my testing). The Razer Kishi is a game-changer (no pun intended). It seamlessly integrated with my Pixel phone, even while it was still in its case. The controls are incredibly comfortable, and the responsiveness to key presses is impressively fast. Gone are the days of struggling with touch controls on a phone screen for premium games. I was able to fully immerse myself in the gaming experience thanks to the controller's ability to utilize the entire screen. I highly recommend the Razer Kishi Ultra as a fantastic gift for any mobile gamer in your life. It's a must-have accessory for anyone looking to elevate their smartphone gaming experience.

Gaming Controller for Android if you are creative

The Razer Kishi Ultra USB-C Gaming Mobile Controller is a solidly built mobile device controller that has built in LED lights for added stimulus. All the buttons and joysticks have a premium feel and not fragile. This controller has the typical feel of a premium feel that you expect from a Razer product. If you do not use a case on your phone or mobile device and is powered by a USB-C port, you will have error free usage from this device. However, if you have a case on your phone which is thick enough to prevent you from drop damage, the USB-C port will not reach into your port. However, I purchased the smallest USB-C to USB-C adapter online and made it fit. When I get a chance, I will 3D print a spacer to make it more secure but using an adapter lets any phone with a case work with the Kishi Ultra. Although Razer includes rubber spacers spaces for iPhone vs Android, I do wish a longer USB-C adapter was made available to account for phone cases that prevents your phone from drop damage.

A Mobile Gaming Controller for Your Phone!

As someone who grew up seeing part of the evolution of mobile gaming, I think this neat USB-C gaming controller is something any gamer could ask for. You can already play a variety of games on your phone but by playing some of your favorite console games with this controller, that feeling of nostalgia comes back. In the box, you will get a Razer – Kishi Ultra USB-C Gaming Controller and some rubber cushions for either your iPhone, Android or iPad mini devices. I am primarily an Android user. I used the gaming controller with a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. I first tried using the controller with my thick phone case and unfortunately, the device did not fit the controller. The inner slip inside the box says the gaming controller can fit devices with cases, but I found that is inaccurate. The gaming controller will fit some devices with cases. I found that the best way to use this gaming controller was with your phone outside the case and the rubber cushions installed. Once the phone is connected to the gaming controller, download the optional but helpful Razer Nexus app. The app works as a launcher for your gaming apps as well as a way to access the controller’s settings like haptics strength and Chroma RGB. I played a variety of games from mobile games to games that are meant for consoles. I can say they all ran surprisingly well. Of course, some games work better with this controller than others. For example, games that have some form of controller support like Fall Out 3 tend to run better than games that are usually mobile like Brawl Stars and PUBG Mobile. A neat feature of the Nexus app is that there is an option to enable Virtual Controller for these games that usually run on mobile devices. With the mini-GUI, you can map a physical button to a virtual one. (e.g use sight in PUBG by mapping the virtual sight button to L2) This can be a hit or miss. I was able to make PUBG Mobile playable, but I found that a mobile game like Brawl Stars is best played without a controller as no matter how you map the controls, the game is significantly harder to play with a controller. But if you plan to use this gaming controller with Xbox Game Pass, PS Remote Play, Amazon Luna, or any game streaming service, you will be fine as all these services run well with a controller. Overall, this is a neat gaming controller for your Android, iPhone, or iPad mini-device. This gaming controller is on the pricier end (likely due to the brand along with the RGB) which may be a dealbreaker for many as there are alternative options that are cheaper but do not have RGB. The controller is also best used without your phone case as many phone cases tend to add something around where the charging port is and this interferes with the USB-C plug. On the bright side of things, the controller is incredibly responsive, and games that have controller support run flawlessly on the device. Some mobile games can be a hit or miss but it all depends on the controls. Functionality is great but again, this breaks most people’s wallets. On that note, I think this is a terrific gaming controller for your mobile devices that is best when on sale.

I bought this for one thing, to use with my iPad Mini playing Warzone Mobile. Over all, this controller has been great, it was seamless to get running and the buttons mapped on iOS. I use this controller, and a PS5 Edge controller, and I honestly couldn't pick between the two. This one, with the pass through charging seems to be a little better. Every so often, I can detect just a hair of latency when using the PS5 Edge controller, where it's via Bluetooth, I've never had that issue with this controller being direct-port connection. This would easily be my one sole go-to controller if it just had some button on the back, like the PS5 edge, and Scuff controllers do. Over the 100+ hours I have on it, the controller is great, no stick drift, worn buttons, etc. And who doesn't love RGB?!

    The best phone controller

Feels like Backbone started this game but Razer took it to the next level. I’ve used a backbone for quite a while for games that support it especially where trying to move and shoot for instance is painful trying to use a touch screen. Mobile shooters are just infinitely better with a controller as I’d give up on them just via touch screen play. In this case the Razer Kishi is amazing and even more so once you start using it for things like PS5 remote play. My favorite thing is to play PS5 on the couch while the girlfriend is asleep in the bedroom where the PlayStation and this is the only way I could do it regularly. Responsiveness is amazing and the controller design is perfect for medium to large hands. I feel like I’m just holding an actual controller aka even better than the switch setup with the phone as a screen. The big item of note is the controller isn’t perfectly setup for phones with cases. Your best bet is to take off your case and use it like that because the rubber inserts are perfectly sized for it and work beautifully. Otherwise you can keep the case and go without the rubber insert but then your phone is floating from the charger insert so it’s not the most supportive setup when used in this non-suggested fashion but I’m not bug in taking my case on and off repeatedly. If they could design a compressible insert that accommodates most cases, that would be the epitome of solutions.

Awesome handheld gaming (in the right conditions)

I've been on an handheld console kick as of late. While I’ve enjoyed my time with handheld consoles, the amount of money spent continues to increase while the overall power is limited. If you can't spend your way to 4k 60 like you can in the PC gaming space, why push to spend more? In comes a device like the Razer Kishi Ultra. The Razer Kishi Ultra isn't a handheld console itself. It’s more like a controller. An awesome controller equipped with a familiar feel, haptics, and RGB lighting. An awesome controller that turns your phone (of mini tablet) into a console. You can rely on the gaming power of your device to play mobile games, which, have grown in variety a lot as of late…or, you can choose to go the the route I went, and stream games from other devices you own. Have a high powered gaming PC? Use Steamlink and depending on your internet connection you can be playing Triple A titles at 1080p 60 with very little latency. I did just that, playing games like Apex Legends or Spiderman: Miles Morales with no issue. Have a PS5 and don’t mind paying a small fee for an app to get around Sony trying to force you into purchasing their limited PS5 streaming device? I did just that and ran some practices with my 3rd year Florida State College Football team in NCAA 25 from my bed. What I haven’t tried is cloud gaming, which is another option, accessible directly through Razer’s Nexus app. But there lies the one issue with the Razer Kishi Ultra. The value you get out of will rely heavily on what you already own. If I didn’t have a high-end gaming PC and PS5, it’d be cool to play Warzone mobile…but if you don’t have a newish mobile phone, how will that run? What if you do have the other devices, but your internet isn’t the best? The Razer Kishi Ultra is an awesome gaming accessory, but its value will ultimately be determined by what other devices you already own. If you have a house full of high end devices (mobile phones, gaming PCs, next-gen consoles) with high speed internet, the Razer Kishi Ultra is awesome. For individuals like myself I’d strongly recommend it.

Best portable controller for phones and tablets

Hello there, gamers; welcome to your portable playing machine. The Razer Kishi is an outstanding device that works with small tablets and phones. I have been using mine for a week and couldn’t be happier. It allows me to play on the go without packing an extra portable monitor controller or laptop. It’s lightweight and has all the buttons you could want for fast-paced shooting games. It even has a headphone jack, but I couldn’t test that as I only have Bluetooth headphones. It is nice to have included if a time arises when wired headphones are needed. One downside is getting used to the extra buttons on the top of the Kishi, not the back. That was a weird flex by Razer. I’ve used the Kishi with my iPhone 15 Pro Max, Android phone, and my iPad mini. It’s fantastic and is like holding a normal Xbox controller. There is a companion app that is not 100% necessary to use but it is nice because it gives you the ability to change your RGB colors and map the extra top buttons. If you are looking for a great portable gaming handheld go with this as it doesn’t have flimsy sticks like other gamepads.

I have the previous Kishi from Razer and while it was a good device (almost great at the time it came out) a few years on it is definitely showing it's age. The improved materials, larger controls, and better mounting area (the Ultra comes with 3 rubber molds for perfect plug n' play) make for a stellar experience. I have only used it with my phone (Pixel Pro) but absolutely love the improved and expanded compatibility of the Nexus UI from Razer, as well. Having said that, my primary use of the Kishi Ultra from Razer is PC gaming. I linked Nvidia & Steam to it and stream my games, using the Kishi Ultra as the controller has completely changed the way I spend my downtime while traveling or relaxing in the short time I've used it. Not every game will give you haptic feedback, but the controls and basics (3.5mm input and type C power pass-thru) along with the various shortcut buttons for screenshots and instant streaming to name a few make it a no-brainer if you are even remotely interested in gaming on the go. 5-stars all day long, awesome device!

This Razer controller works so fantastically for my iPhone 16 Pro Max. The iOS app called Razer Nexus is nice, as are the programmable buttons and lights. There is also a USB-C passthrough for the charger as you play if needed. Overall, Razer’s package for iOS gaming makes the whole experience top-notch. Now we just need more AAA games and other great games.

The Razer Kishi Ultra is a game-changer for mobile gaming. Its seamless integration with iPhone and iPad Mini, thanks to the inclusion of different bumpers, makes setup effortless and user-friendly. The responsiveness of the controller is top-notch, ensuring a smooth and immersive gaming experience. One standout feature is the built-in dashboard, which lets you easily organize and access your games without hunting for them across various apps—a thoughtful addition that simplifies gaming on the go. Compared to the Backbone, the Kishi Ultra shines. It doesn’t force you into a paid membership, and its ergonomic design is perfect for extended gaming sessions, unlike the cramped feel of its competitor. My only critique is the lack of a case to store the controller and its accessories. At this price point, it feels like a small but important oversight, especially when competitors like the Xbox Elite and PlayStation controllers include cases for the controller and accessories. That said, the Razer Kishi Ultra delivers on performance, convenience, and design, making it a must-have for any serious mobile gamer. Highly recommended! Definitely buy this!

Razor does it again with another outstanding controller for mobile. If you own an iPhone, this thing is king and very crucial if you play first person shooters or any competitive games on your phone I.e Call of duty mobile, this controller is perfect. It’s a little pricey,, and to be honest I can do without Some of the bells and whistles like the RGB lighting, but as far as a functional controller, it’s top notch. Out of all of the mobile controllers I’ve used, and I’ve used a lot, this one is by far my favorite

The Razer Kishi Ultra is hands down the best mobile gaming controller I’ve used. It feels just like holding a real console controller solid, comfortable, and way more natural than those smaller clip-on ones. The buttons are super responsive, the triggers feel smooth, and the sticks are precise. I can game for hours without my hands cramping up, which is huge. I also love that it charges through USB-C while I’m playing, so my phone never dies mid-session. The haptics and RGB are a nice touch too not over the top, just enough to make it feel premium. I’ve been using it with my iPhone 16 and it runs perfectly, plus it works with my iPad Mini which basically turns it into a mini handheld console. Yeah, it’s on the pricier side, but honestly, you’re paying for quality. The build feels premium, and it really takes mobile gaming to another level. If you play a lot on your phone or iPad, this thing is worth it.
