Got this on sale for $50 off about a year and half ago. Still going strong since then. This headset can fit pretty much anyone due to its adjustable headband and pretty flexible nature. This is also quite durable since there were times that I dropped this on the floor and yanked on the wire too hard. The sound quality is also amazing for gaming and listening to music. I have play games with spotify on the side all the time. The dedicated USB audio control has the feature to separate game and chat audio. I set my discord output to "chat", while my Windows output is set to "game". That way, I can adjust the balance between game and chat audio. The microphone quality is pretty decent. I've tested it with discord, OBS while streaming, and even plugged into my iPhone, and the quality is great. Just don't put it too close to your mouth since it doesn't have a built-in pop filter. I eventually upgraded to a dedicated Blue Yeti microphone so I don't use it anymore, but it is still a great sounding mic if you're talking to friends on discord. You also have two ways to mute your mic: the big mute button on the USB sound control, and the mute switch on the headset wire. I use the former a lot more often. The only feature I can't really talk about is the THX Spatial Audio that comes with the Razer software. I've played a few FPS's with and without the spatial audio, and honestly it sounds virtually the same, thus it won't really improve your gameplay. I don't see myself buying a new headset anytime soon. The price seems to go down every holiday so get it while it's on sale.

    Need to Change the EQ

Comfort: Overall the headset is very comfortable. Surprisingly the ear muffs don't get too hot when wearing for long periods of time and the band isn't too stiff so I'm not afraid of breaking it when I put it on. Just follow the directions and give it a gentle pre-bend/flex before wearing it for the first time. Sound Quality: One of the main reasons I bought this specific brand is because of the Razer synapse software that pairs with it. When pluggin in the headset with the EQ flat, the sound quality is supper mid and low-mid heavy making it very woofy. However, the Razer Synapse software allows you to modify the EQ with a convinient graphic EQ set ups so I was able to put in a mid scoop (cut the mid and low mid and boost the bass and trebel). Once I set up that EQ curve it sounded way better and a lot closer to the quality of my entry level studio monitors. Mic Quality: the Mic quality is great just make sure it's close to your mouth so you don't sound too distant. The noise canceling is good too. Overall: The only reason it's not 5 stars is because for someone who does not know how to EQ their audio, these don't sound that great plugged in out of the box with a flat EQ. Once you do mess with it though, these become WAY better and it's suddenly worth a much greater value. Left to right are my EQ values: 2, -1, -3, -3, -5, -2, 1, 3, 4, 1 See the attached picture for my EQ curve

The headset I used before was the Corsair Void Pro, but the first day that headset started to hurt my head after long usages and there was a lot of heat build up near my ears. I had to take it off every few hours or so. With this new headset, I wore it 12 hours straight playing Valorant and Minecraft Dungeons with my friends, and wow. I'm impressed for this price point. My head hasn't started to hurt, the microphone is so much better, and it is so much comfortable than the Corsair Void headset. Their exclusive 7.1 surround sound is very cool, it really helps with shooter games, like Valorant, to know where your opponents are. Definitely buying Razer next time!

Bought and used for 2 weeks. Very nice looking solid build quality. Very comfortable after a while of use maybe varies by head shape. Sounds are great in games. Haven't had chance to test mic in discord sorry. Overall great buy tbh even better with the product replacement warranty from bestbuy.

I have used several different headsets in the past. This one is very comfortable and the sound quality is excellent. It even comes with a separate bass adjustment tool so you can customize the sound to your specific needs. The mic on the headset is also very nice and the sound quality it very clear.

One of the best headset that I have had, I have them for my PC and also for my xbox series x, although to be honest the sound is more enjoyable when using them on the computer with the 7.1 from dolby. I liked them so much that I gave some of these headsets to my friends on their birthdays.

I love the light weight and flip up mute and of course the sound is awesome. I do wish it had a wireless charging system (cradle). I’m concerned the plug for charging will wear out and it is hard to hook up in dim light.

These headphones are pretty decent. The build quality is good and it is very light weight. This works well with the comfort level as wearing these headphones for 2+ hours was a breeze with no strain on ears or surrounding areas on your head. The ear-cup cushions are very soft and I didn’t find much heat build up around ears at anytime when I used them. The sound quality on these are similar if not better to other gaming headsets I’ve tried such as, the Turtle Beach Recon and HyperX. I used this both on a PS4 and on PC and there were no issues using it on either. I give this headset two thumbs up on spatial audio, that impressed me more than I thought it would. I like that the mic is retractable and according to my friends my voice came through clearly from their end, so no complaints there. The only issues I encountered were that the mic is so good that it easily picks up everything in my background that might be annoying to those that I am in chat with online and slider for controlling the volume levels is so easy to turn that sometimes it turns it up/down during use. As an average gamer myself I definitely suggest this headset to other gamers, you’ll enjoy this.

I have rated the Razer Kraken as 3 stars because many of the advertised features only function when used for PC Gaming. Be aware that the USB Audio Controller is NOT used with the Xbox, Playstation, or Nintendo Switch. Instead of using the wired remote, the headset will simply plug into your controller using a standard 3.5 mm plug. If you are not purchasing this headset for use with PC Gaming, then I feel as though you are being overcharged as you are paying for features and a remote that you will not be able to utilize. In my opinion, the USB Audio Controller should be sold separately (so that those purchasing for console use aren’t charged for something they can’t use). To be fair, gaming on a home console is still a good experience when using the Kraken – due primarily to comfort. The headset is light, has quality padding on the head band, and does not squeeze to tightly against your head. The microphone is retractable and does a great job of picking up your voice once you bend the mic to the correct position. (Note, the microphone also picks up on much of the ambient noise in your room as well.) The ear-cups are over sized and comfortable even for those who need to wear glasses while gaming. The ear cushions are made out of a cooling-gel that truly works. When you first put the headphones on, the cushions actually feel cool and while that cooling sensation fades after a while, the headset can be worn for many hours without becoming hot or sweaty. I also appreciate that the material that touches your ear is a soft & stretchy material that will not someday crack and flake like the fake leather used on most headsets. The audio quality is just slightly above average. Bass & Treble are both quite good, but will definitely not blow you away. And again, if you are not connected to a PC, you will not be able to use any of the advance audio features. No customized audio settings, no bass boost, no special THX audio. Because the ear-cups are so large – a fair amount of audio leaks out and can be heard by those sitting hear you. They also do not do a great job of muffling out surrounding noise.

Razer Delivers a Decent Headset with Kraken

I've always been a fan of Razer's products. I am please to add this headset to the growing line of peripherals I own. Comfort: I'll start off by saying this headset is extremely comfortable. Despite looking heavy, this is a lightweight, soft, and after a couple minutes of wearing, you forget you have them on. This lends itself perfect for long gaming sessions. I have not experiences and sweat buildup, and they breath very well for me. Features: I love the retractable mic in the left ear cup. When the mic is not needed (a lot of my gaming) it is nice to have the ability to stowe it away inside and you forget it is even there. It comes out very easy when needed and offers complete and firm adjust-ability so you can position it almost anywyere. On the cable itself, the headset plugs into your computer with a second module. This module had volume adjustments and the headphones plug directly into it. Under this volume module, there is a sticky adhesive for mounting to a desk or PC case. I found this weird, and didn't want to permanently stick it to anything, so i left the plastic covering the sticky on it. There is a THX enhancement button that more or less does nothing really to "enhance" anything, but the sound does get louder. Seems more of a gimmick than anything. Sound Quality: Overall the sound quality is great. I could make out small sound details and distance, and location in online game play was noticeable and offered an advantage over desktop speakers alone. This is a THX certified device, though I've heard much better sound from other HTX products. I would consider these to be of average quality, not your audiophiles headset, but good enough for gaming. Software: As with all Razer products, this headset communicated with Windows via the Razer Synaptic app. You sign into the app with a free Razer account and it allows you to adjust volume and sound features, as well as mic volume, and Chroma (lighting) settings and all your settings sync to the cloud so if you change computers all of your settings come back down. Overall I am happy with this headset and will use it for some time when PC gaming. I'd consider alternatives though for movies and music though.

Pros Affordable price versus feature set Solid build Compatible with PCs, mobile, as well as consoles THX Spatial Audio support MIC is neatly hidden until needed Lightweight aluminum frame Dialog is very clear Thick headband cushion helps extended gameplay comfort Long cord Cons Headband isn’t as comfortable for larger heads Dual volume controls can be confusing Red light on for mute and no light for chat is confusing THX is only available via PC No adjustments are available when attached to consoles Spatial audio isn’t as precise as some others Dynamic range of speakers is limited and sounds weak USB audio is sometimes choppy with no CPU load No storage case or pouch Cord organizers don’t attach to anything and can be easily lost Good audio can be what makes good gameplay great. Most gamers appreciate a sharp, fast responding screen, fast GPU, and responsive keyboard and mouse. Not all realize how much more immersive a game can be when the sound environment not only has good range to produce the sounds but can also place the sound in the game. Hearing a growling or footsteps behind you and knowing which direction it is coming from really adds realism to the game. The Razer Kraken Tournament Edition is of the latest gaming headsets from Razer that attempts to crack the code of good gaming audio. Design The Kraken Tournament Edition is surprisingly understated for a Razer product. It has no bright colors, flashing lights, or green serpent logo. The headset is completely blacked out in flat black everywhere except the logo which is more of a gloss black. Construction feels sturdy with a build of aluminum, plastic, breathable fabric, and faux leather. Weight is appropriately heavy without being uncomfortable. The audio cable is wrapped in braided cloth to increase durability. The integrated mic can be retracted back into the headset when not in use for easy storage with no worry of misplacing it. The mic extends far enough to have good placement for clear chat. Although mic has a storage place, the USB adapter does not. Cord organizers are included but they don’t attach to the cables, so you are going to have to remember not to forget them. There is no included storage case or bag. The earpads are an over the ear design with thick, breathable pads to help reduce fatigue from extended use. The headband is similarly heavily padded with breathable cloth to keep the headset comfortable. The design places light pressure on the head to keep them in place firmly without pain. That said, if you have a larger head this design might become uncomfortable sooner as the headband can feel a bit hard after a while the pressure may become slightly uncomfortable. By the time this happens, you might be in a break as your whole body might be feeling the effects. Included in the package is a USB adapter with THX Spatial Audio. Although the mini stereo and USB adapters provide maximum compatibility with any PC, tablet, phone, or gaming console the advanced features only work with the USB connection via PC drivers. On any other device, they work as standard headphones. Performance Of course, for the price point you want to keep your expectations in line, but you would hope for decent audio range and good music quality. Unfortunately, music is a weak spot of the Kraken Tournament Edition. Connected via the stereo jack the audio quality is muddy as if being heard through a wall. Highs are audible but sound harsh, bass is present but weak, and mids are all but absent. It’s apparent that Razer wasn’t focusing this headset on people who also wanted to use them for casual music sessions. In gameplay things improve. The focus on sharp highs means that sounds such as footsteps, breaking branches, screeching tires, and gunfire have increased emphasis allowing quicker directional placement. Spatial placement of sounds is good but not as precise, possibly because of the muddy aspect, although some report better results with different games. When connected via USB with THX Spatial Audio on, the audio would be slightly choppy with low CPU and GPU load. When turned off, the audio was clear. Hopefully this is just a driver issue which Razer will improve in the future. Besides gaining THX Spatial Audio when connected via USB you also gain an equalizer and a control box inline to adjust volume, bass level, turn THX Spatial Audio on or off, and mute the mike. Strangely this design also means when the USB adapter is connected you will have two volume controls and two mic buttons inline. Although, it seems the one higher up on the cord is disabled when connected via USB. The control box indicates THX on with a green light and off with no light. Strangely the mic is on when it’s lite is off and is muted when the light is red. This seems a bit counter intuitive. It should turn on when it’s on or off when off or at least make it where green means on and red means muted. The Razer Synapse drivers for PC allow EQ adjustments, adjustments to sound normalization and voice clarity, and mic adjustments including ambient noise reduction. If you are looking for a lot of adjustments or THX Spatial Audio for consoles, you are out of luck. Most advanced features require more support than consoles provide. So far mic quality has been reported as good with good clarity and with adjustments to position are easy with the flexible shaft which moves easily and stays where you put it. Conclusion Razer can sometimes be a polarizing company in gaming but if you are fan of their products you will find the same design language you know already and enjoy. There are some quirks, like the choppy audio in Spatial Audio mode which hopefully can be fixed via updates, but overall the build quality feels solid. One might be led to criticize them harshly for not having stellar audio quality but for the price point, the audio quality is on par if not a standout. Razer products also periodically go on sale which makes the purchase more competitive. The Razer Kraken Tournament Edition headphones may not win any converts but will likely satisfy the fans, particularly ones who can’t spend a fortune.

Get this for PC only - avoid on consoles...

I got these headphones for my daughter because we got her a gaming PC for Christmas and she needed a good pair of "starter" gaming headphones - so I opted for these, as I use exclusively Razer-branded gear on my personal gaming rig. I also thought this would make a good pair of headphones for her use on PS4 as well. Not so much. Let me start out by saying for PC use, these are "good". Not the greatest, but certainly not the worst. There are other PC gaming headsets that are far superior in this price range. I say this because the sound quality is very sub-par. The comfort is great though and we LOVE the retractable mic. Sadly, the mic audio quality for the person on the other end far surpasses the audio quality of the headset itself. Oh and even on the PC - don't bother listening to music on these... Yes, it's THAT bad. These are too dependent on the Razer Synapse program on the PC to function. If you are gaming on a PC and use Synapse, that's great. You get the full features - the Chroma lighting, the simulated 7.1 sound, etc. However, for console use (PS4/Xbox one), don't bother. The USB dongle does not work. At all. It won't even turn on when plugged in. I had to plug the headset into the PS4 controller via the 3.5 mm jack. The lights on the side don't even turn on (as there's not power being supplied via USB). The audio quality via this method is HORRIBLE. Everything is such low-volume, even when maxed out on the in-line volume dial and on the PS4 itself. I get better audio quality with a $50 pair of earbuds. It's very sad. So, because of this, I'm only giving these a 2-star rating. I was expecting MUCH better, given the Razer brand and the fact that a few of their other headsets are absolutely awesome. I honestly don't know what they were thinking with these - I wish they weren't so bent on forcing the Synapse integration. The audio quality is trash and the overall volume is pretty low. Console use is there, but may as well be non-existent. They should have marketed these as for PC only. P.S.: The regular Kraken 7.1 V2 are better than these because they are USB powered but do not use the dongle and because of this, has the lighting effect on consoles - however, those cans have an issue on console as well with audio feedback, which I'm not going to talk about here.

Ordered these headphones for my sons 15th birthday. They were used and broken out of the box. I can’t believe that Best Buy would try and resell this returned crap. They actually sound busted when you shake them and the right speaker pulls all the way out. I can only Imagine how he felt when he unwrapped them.

I'm loving this headset. Came nicely packaged. I immediately plugged it my PC. I had downloaded razer's synapse software already and the install was a breeze. You have to make sure in the Windows sound properties that the razer game and razer chat are set as default, one for speakers and the other for communications (mic). Once done, I fired up a game and turned on the THX spatial sound, and it was great! Far better and even a fancier headset I also have that is supposed to have positional sound too (arctics pro with game dac and DTSX 2). I could accurately tell were sounds were coming from in a game like rainbow six. Remember, the THX spatial sound is an evolution of surround sound, not only gives you 7.1 emulation but also up and down (kind of like dolby atmos or dtsx). The synapse software is unobtrusive and I like that it detects when you have a game running (you may have to alt + tab for a moment to switch to it), you can assign a sound mode to each game you launch (in example, if you like more stereo sound on one game or surround, you can pre set it per game) and it will activate automatically next time you launch the game. This a great feature, but requires the game to be running for the software to detect it and you change your preset. There is room for improvement, maybe like a game scanning feature so it looks for games on your HD and then you can apply the presets. In the mean time they have to be running (I guess its because you can practically apply the preset to any program that is running as long as its outputting sound, so could be other apps, not only games). Comfort was great, I usually game for around 1 hour non stop at nights and I wear glasses and they were fine, no pressing on them and they cover my ears nicely. No sweaty ears either, they seem to have a breathing material or so. Highly recommend them if you want to hear everything around you!!

My HyperX Cloud II's broke about 3 months ago and I went to Best Buy to shop while I used an old pair of wireless Turtle Beach's. With price matching I received the headset for $82 with tax, which if feel is a better price point than $99 before tax. Overall it's not a bad headset. I could not get it to work with Razer Synapse, but it still works just fine. Without connecting it to Synapse, I lose out on fine tuning, but it was not important to me. I have a rather large head, so most headsets like the Steel Series won't fit me, even the Cloud II's were pretty tight. These fit me great. I wear them upwards of 8 hours a day between listening to music while doing homework, watching movies or playing games. This headset is super comfortable, would rate it 10/10. Sound is generally full, with no tinny sound on the high end. Bass is decent, but don't expect it to be Beats quality, which I don't need. The inline volume control is kind of weird. At max volume it sounds great. However when I adjust it down, the sound is reduced more in my left ear than my right, leaving me with an odd feeling if I use it. I also lost the ability to use the THX part of it with it not being able to properly lose Synapse, but again, not that important. The one complaint I did have, was connecting it to Synapse was a pain. I am using the Synapse 2.0 because it is stable and does not cause problems. If you want any of the extra features, you have to install 3.0 which is riddled with bugs and issues. Once I installed 3.0, my Naga chroma was not recognized but Synapse. I finally got it to detect my Naga, but then a high pitched squeal was heard in my headset whenever I would play sound through it. After searching Reddit and other forums, it seems you have to jump through FAR too many hoops to get everything to work well together. With Synapse 2.0, you just plugged it in and everything worked. 3.0 is pretty much garbage. Overall, I'm pretty impressed with the headset and would recommend it if you don't have too many other Razer products and use Synapse 2.0.

Big and Heavy, are the 2 main adjectives to describe these headsets... They have a premium build and feel and they are not made like the rest of plastic headsets from the 4 other competing brands... offer excellent ear coverage and are made with transpiring materials, earpads fit properly around your ear, very comfortable and adjustable, tested with PS4 PRO, XBOX 1X and a custom built $6k gaming pc ... in my experience they work flawlessly ( sadly the USB thx surround adapter module is designed to work ONLY on PC ) Some people may find them too bulky and heavy due to the metal body and enclosures they carry, but this is exactly what separates this from the rest of the herd , RAZER did a great job on these !
