Customers are impressed with the excellent sound quality and ease of use of the VideoMic On-Camera Shotgun Microphone. Many also appreciate its price point, though some find the microphone's size to be a bit large for certain applications. A few users noted the need for a 9V battery as a minor inconvenience.

Perfect for dslr cameras. I use the Blu Yeti Pro for computer recordings, but the Røde shotgun mic is what you need for video recordings. Can't go wrong with this product.

Love rodes stuff. Bought this to upgrade and ppl packed it and put it in my bag. Two moths later whe I finally needed it I pulled it out and it didn't work. Fresh battery turned it on then all nothing. The 90 degrees wire had some issue if I touched that it kind of work. Took to best buy they replaced it imidietky. Works great. Fluke

I do not do a ton of video but I needed a mic for the videos I do make. It works well for the level of audio I need but you dont have much control over it so if video is your business you might want the one a level above this.,

I just love the way this Rode mic sounds. The sound is very clear and it has a professional appearance. I found it easy to install and iI highly recommend it over some of the less expensive name brands. If you are looking for quality and a professional sound you would be wise to consider purchasing this mic because you won’t regret it.

I purchased this microphone as the result of being disappointed with the sound directly from my gopro camara. After connecting the mic to my gopro, wow what a difference. This mic picks up everything evenly balanced. You won't be disappointed.

The quality is good but I’m going to return it because this mic is very old and way too overpriced for its age. And the size is very big you can get something smaller on Amazon with the same sound quality for way cheaper.

Easy to use microphone with clean and clear audio, perfectly suitable for amateur and enthusiast videos containing event sound, or spoken audio. This mic is effectively a shotgun mic, but it pics up an appropriate amount of room noise.

This is a solid microphone. I've used it twice so far, both in noisy environments and got quality results both times.

I don't like making negative reviews, but I also don't want anyone to go through the trouble of making the same mistake as me.. I thought this would be the route to go because I see so many people using on-camera mics like this in a professional setting.. But I think now that that's more out of necessity than efficiency.. People use these when they're "out in the field" and whatnot, but if you're recording at home, or in a studio, or some kind of controlled environment. Then your best bet is to go with external audio.. Something like recording into a laptop, or mixer (depending on the mic you're using).. Or getting something like a Zoom recorder. These things will give you WAY better audio.. My audio with this on-camera mic was terrible, and I actually ending up returning it.
Best Buy was amazing and gave me no problems at all. Full refund.

Great mic. Great price! RODE Rocks, just plug it in and your good to go. If your DLSR doesn't have audio control, I recommend getting a Linear PCM Recorder. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this device. MD

I pair this microphone with my Canon for video recording and delivers good quality audio. I have yet to test it in outdoor environments but so far it is good quality. Will update review after testing it outside.

Works well with my Sony camcorder

The Rode VideoMic works well with my Sony Camcorder (HDR-CX160). For a fairly inexpensive small boom mic, it picked up my subject's audio very well. The sound recording came out pretty clear. The only real downside was that I could not attach it directly to my camcorder. I had to use a flash mount to use the mic.
