I remember playing the original one for the PsOne and its easily my favorite game of the franchise. This remake is awesome it was like reliving my youth and the experience felt refreshing and new. Playing it on Hardcore Mode.

There were a lot of changes done but that was expected. The gameplay is great but I was left wanting more. I’m hoping for a dlc to come in the future.

Intro
This version of Resident Evil 3 is a remake of the 1999 version. Capcom had struck gold with its RE Engine that helped make the 7th installment terrifying. This is now the 2nd of 3 games Capcom has remade with the new graphics power and unfortunately it is the weakest.
Graphics
Despite what I just said, this game is absolutely beautiful. It takes place on the streets of a city that has been destroyed by a zombie outbreak. Capcom has recently made this game compatible with the PS5, adding HDR and high frame rate modes. The game does ask you which of these you would like to prioritize however, I believe between the RE remakes, 2, 3 and now 4, this game handles prioritizing HDR over frame rate the best. Both 2 and 4 have noticeable dips with prioritizing HDR over frame rates however this game almost never stutters. It's an absolute joy to look at and that in itself is worth experiencing more than once.
Gameplay
The point where this game loses a whole star and possibly more with other players is that this game essentially plays the exact same as the 2nd RE remake. Similar weapons, similar story sets and the order that they're presented in and a villain that chases you around the map but can now sprint or jump ahead of you where the stalker characters in 2 remake and the 8th Resident Evil just stomp towards you in a speed that can be outrun with the characters running speed.
Gone is the inventory management that made the 2nd remake more than a horror shoot em up game. In the 2nd game, you had an option to pick up items or to leave them behind which if you decided to save an item for later they are added to your map. However, in this game once you select an item you automatically pick it up, costing you precious space in your extremely limited inventory. The only way around this is to simply not interact with an item and come back when you are ready for it. Resident Evil 7, 8, 2 Remake and 4 Remake, which came out after this game all allow you to interact with an item without committing to keeping it in your inventory. Cutting this from what I would say is part of the core gameplay of all Resident Evils takes away more than one would think from this game, just look at how much I decided to write about it.
All in all, this game is still fantastic and offers plenty of scares, but unless if you love the franchise like I do, it may be worth skipping until it's on sale... like I did.

I am a 45 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this game for Christmas in 2021 from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So i decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. I loaded into the game, picked my character and world and started playing but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he hosted a game for me to join. I loved it as it was the best time I had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.

I’d never played Resident Evil 3 before this point. I understand there are quite a few changes to the original, and I know I’ll have to play it someday, but as a stand alone game, I really enjoyed it. Loved Jill and Carlos, a bit disappointed Barry doesn’t exist in this game, but Nemesis is a blast. The zombies are killers, and pretty hard to dodge. I was doing really well and had a ton of ammo until the hospital, I had to switch to the assisted mode at that point because it was just too difficult, at least till I could switch back to Jill. Anyway, it’s a great game and looks beautiful. Enjoy!

I would consider myself a hardcore Resident Evil fan. I’m not on the level where I go back and repeatedly replay Resident Evil 1-5 (nobody’s replaying Resident Evil 6 unless it’s for comedic effect), but I’ll at least consider buying any Resident Evil game on release.
With Resident Evil 3 Remake, I’m not disappointed, but I totally understand where the disappointment is coming from, so I’ll quickly explain the controversy. First off, there’s cut content; there’s no way to get around that fact. The original game has more areas, more extensive areas than what’s already here, more puzzles that are more difficult and more boss fights. I don’t know why Capcom did this; it’s like if you re-released a famous book or comic book and ripped out chapters and frames and hoped nobody notices upon re-release. Yeah… embarrassing for those game developers. This game can be beaten in about 5-7 hours and many believe that doesn’t justify the $60 price tag.
The second reason is that Nemesis is weakened in this remake. People are saying that Mr. X from THE PREVIOUS GAME, was more of an imposing figure than Nemesis here. Nemesis only shows up for scripted boss fights, cut scenes and…maybe three times he’ll legitimately chase you into the next cut scene. I’m conflicted about this because the original Resident Evil 3 had two difficulties at the start: easy and hard mode. I’m assuming the “hardcore mode” of this game is the real “standard difficulty” so “standard difficulty” is easy difficulty and the easy difficulty offered here is for people who struggle with a game controller. At least they didn’t call easy difficulty “casual mode”; it’s insulting when a game does that.
The third reason is cut game modes. We don’t get live-action game choices with multiple playthroughs and endings nor do we get an updated Mercenaries Mode. Instead, we get alternate scenarios which are hard to figure out (most people don’t’ even know they exist) and Resident Evil: Resistance. Resident Evil: Resistance is such a departure from any Mercenaries Mode I’ve seen that I’m confused why it’s even included. It could have easily released for free or separately as its own game.
All in all, we’re lucky to get any remake from the 90s. Usually, only Nintendo does this. It’s still surreal to play something I remember so fondly from my childhood. A remake should re-create most, if not all, of the original game (which arguably this game doesn’t) and expand upon what’s been re-created for modern audiences (which this game only partially does). I unlocked all the infinite ammo weapons and passive character buffs, so I feel like after about 16 hours with this game, it was worth my $60 pre-order. I REALLY hope Capcom re-releases this game with Mercenaries Mode and some amount of added story content that was initially cut or at least gives it to us as post-game DLC.
