The Most Resident Evil of All The Resident Evils!

I've been a pretty hardcore fan since RE1 on PSX back in 1996. The franchise fell from grace with RE 5 and RE 6, but RE 7 brought this dead franchise back to life. I love RE: Village. This is the most Resident Evil of all Resident Evil games in the franchise.
THE BAD:
Biggest complaint is the performance takes a bit of a dive on PS5 with Ray Tracing enabled. When RT is enabled, the frame rate struggles to stay at a solid 60 fps. Frame rate takes a pretty big dive nose dive when water is present. This is most noticeable in ACT III. RT isn't worth the performance hit on PS5.
THE GOOD:
Since this Village is a direct sequel to RE7, I will use the two games to compare to each other. I've heard many people say that this isn't as scary as RE7 tonally, but I'd argue that when played with good headphones and on hardcore for the first time that this game is scarier. Village's tone is arguably weirder and more fun. RE7 had a lot of shocking and gross elements that it borrowed from popular western developed horror games (e.g., Outlast, Alien Isolation, Amnesia).
Skippable cutscenes. Period. If you've played RE7 more than once, you'll know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. Village allows you to skip each cutscene. Regardless of whether or not you already completed RE7, there was a total of 1 skippable cutscene the entire game. Every single animation had to be long and dragged out...So for that I commend Capcom for allowing us to skip cutscenes this time around in RE8.
Village is better on all fronts. Gunplay faster has tighter mechanics and animations. The camera sensitivity for the right analog stick has been overhauled from RE7, allowing for more granular customization.
Albeit the B-movie campiness, the storyline and acting is objectively better. Come on. Big Mommy. Need I say more? Ethan's story and personality is more fleshed out. Village is the spiritual successor to RE4 which is evident in the location that it takes place, as well as in the implementation of the inventory and currency system. RE7 raised the bar for the franchise back in 2017, but Village surpasses it in every way for me. It's a masterpiece that falls a little short of RE2: Remake's god-like status, but it's still a masterpiece nonetheless.

A decent enough sequel to RE7, wrapping up the Ethan Winters storyline in the Resident Evil universe. Add in PSVR2 support, and you've got a system-seller on your hands-- unless you're not an action/horror fan, that is. Not as good as 7, in my opinion, but still overall a fantastic game.

I played this game entirely in VR with the original PSVR, and it was an absolutely AMAZING experience!
I'm honestly still not "sold" on virtual reality gaming. I've been unimpressed with most titles I've played, but this game was a definite exception.
The immersion and tension definitely get cranked up in VR, as it got me with jump scares on a couple of occasions, which rarely ever work on me.
Simply put, this is an absolute "killer app" for VR. I've heard that the game is compatible with PSVR2, and is an even better experience with Sony's second gen VR. If you have never played this game, and have, or plan to buy PSVR2 in the future, this is and absolute must buy.

Nice RE4 vibes, good balance of puzzles, combat and scares. It's paced well too so you never feel completely overwhelmed. Runs at a smooth 60fps / 4K with raytracing on PS5. A bit short though, clocking in around 10-15 hours but all of that time is drenched in production value and stunning atmosphere.

I'm generally a casual gamer without the patience to finish most games. Resident Evil Village was an exception - I played through to the end in around 13 enjoyable and frightening hours. The graphics were excellent at setting the mood, the audio added to the tension, and the villains were well envisioned. Gameplay was smooth, with only a couple of scenes that became frustrating because of the need to carefully manage resources. I appreciated the unexpected twists that build on the RE 7 Biohazard storyline. Highly recommend.

Both versions are great to play. By that I mean PSVR2 and regular format. PSVR2 is fun and spooky at the same time.
