This is an amazing product to have in several occasions and I am glad to have it. The Charger comes in a box with the charger, user manual, information and a bag with handles to take it with me or storing it in my vehicle or taking it home. The cable is long enough at 17ft to charge my vehicle without any problems. I really like that I can charge without having a dedicated 240V plug, I can charge my vehicle when I am at someone else house or friends in case I need to, even in some places where they do not have a dedicated charging station. It can basically be plugged in a standard household outlet. This charger is very useful especially in an emergency, of course it does not charge as fast, the Rexing 32A does a better job but this is a just in case charger and I am glad to have it. It also works great with hybrid vehicles; it comes with Level 1 charging. The LED display and LED light in front is a plus, and the manual does come with information on how to read them. The display shows the device temperature, charging current, charging voltage, KWh Charged, Current settings and Charging Speed (KW). You know when the vehicle is charging when the light blinks in green once it is charged then the light will turn solid green. The charger comes with a button as well, this is useful to change different settings, I can choose current from 8A, 10A, 12A or 16A. The charger also can be set to charge from 1hr to 12 hours max. I also like that behind the charger, there are instructions on how to change the settings, it makes it easier to know without looking for the manual. Overall I really like this charger; it is well made and works great.

As an electric vehicle driver, the Rexing - J1772 portable charge cable is nice to have in my car as a backup. The cable that came with my Nissan Leaf, doesn’t work well with my older home’s electric outlets making it difficult to charge at home when I wanted to. (I will note, I primarily charge when I’m out running errands on public chargers and the home charger is for topping off my car.) The Rexing - J1772 portable charge cable is 17 feet long, which may limit some EV drivers ability to use this cable at home without the extension cord adapter that Rexing makes. Fortunately, it’s just the right length for my needs. This Rexing - J1772 portable charge cable is a level 1 trickle or slow charger meaning if you’re trying to get an EV battery at a lower percentage charged, it will take a lot of time. My Nissan Leaf has a 40kwh battery and in 5 hours I went from 68% to 82%. The display on the charger is great, it shows how long it’s been charging, what the converters temperature is, how many volts are passing through, and how many kilowatts have been added to the vehicle. (This is probably my favorite feature.) The charger comes with a nice storage bag to keep in your vehicle and I find the weight of the cable to be light and manageable. The Rexing - J1772 portable charge cable is great for plug-in hybrid type vehicles whose batteries don’t need as long to charge and are not wholly reliant on the EV battery. It can work for the fully EV driver who is not needing to go anywhere in a hurry or wants to top the battery off overnight. So far I’m quite happy with the quality and ease of use for the Rexing - J1772 portable charge cable.

    Capable Level 1 Charger

The Rexing 16A J1772 portable charger is a great level 1 charger for your electric vehicle, provided you have a J1772 port or as in my case an adapter. I recently purchased a Model 3 SR and currently I am limited to 120v while charging at home. I have relied on the Tesla mobile charger but it is limited to 12A or approximately 1.4KWh. A NEMA 5-15 is typical matched to a 15A circuit and Tesla limit the amps to 80% of the circuit rating to ensure safety, hence the 12A limitation. In my case, the wiring to the circuit I use for charging has the proper gauge and circuit breaker for 20A but has 5-15 receptacles. I am comfortable pushing higher than 12A through my circuit but most should probably stick with what their circuit is rated for and consult a licensed electrician. The Rexing J1772 portable charger lets me configure the output up to 16A increasing my effective charge rate to 1.9KWh, allowing me to charge faster utilizing the J1772 to NACS adapter that came with my car. For instance, when looking to charge up from 67% the time it would take using the Tesla mobile charger was estimated to be 16h 50m where as with the Rexing it was reduced to 12h 50m when charging at 16A. I generally am not in a bind to charge as I also utilize a free level 3 charger when convenient, so I tend to leave it at 14A but it is nice to be able to utilize the potential of the circuit I have without paying for a 240V circuit with the costs currently. The Rexing 16A portable charger features a nice, informative LED screen displaying real-time status of voltage, amps, watts, time, and total KWh charged. Though I found the 17ft cable decent length, it may be a touch short in some situations. The charger seems well constructed and doesn’t seem to get abnormally warm. It features overcurrent and overheat protection as well for peace of mind. I also like that the output can be specified from the charger so that you do not exceed your circuit rating. For use on the go, it even includes a nice storage bag to keep it tidy. The Rexing level 1 portable charger is a great alternative to the mobile charger for Tesla owners but also perfect for any electric vehicle that can interface with the J1772.

I've been reviewing the Rexing 16A, J1772, NEMA 5-15 Level 1 Portable Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger on my Mustang Mach-E for about a week, and overall, I really like it. The Rexing Level 1 Charger is an excellent replacement for the Level 1 chargers that usually come with an electric vehicle. It has excellent build quality, and comes with a really nice canvas storage bag. It also has a 17-foot cord which was enough for me to reach my car from the outlet in the garage, and a nice LCD screen that shows useful information like AMPs, charging time, and temperature. This is the first charger I've seen/used that provides this type of useful information up front. The Rexing charger supports up to 16 amps, but it will only deliver as much current as your circuit can provide. In my case, my circuit could only supply 12 amps, but the Rexing charger still easily provided me with 1 kWh of power per hour of charging. On my vehicle that gave me about 24 miles of charge overnight while I was sleeping. This is in line with other Level 1 chargers I've used. Also in my use the charger never got warm and did not show any faults. Overall, I'm very happy with the Rexing 16A Level 1 EV Charger. It's a well-made, informative, and effective charger that I highly recommend.

Great 16A EV Charging Cord Faster than Tesla 110v

First impressions - After noting the specs on the box, I removed the new cord from the package and checked over the included carrying case. The case is a nice touch to avoid cord spaghetti! This charger is rated for use on 110v for up to 16 amps which potentially exceeds my tesla 110v cord by 4 amps. The control box feels solid, the cord itself has appropriate strain relief connectors and the end plug sockets in firmly. Overall this cord feels solidly built ! Overall Use - I have utility sockets in my garage that are "known" - i.e. 10 gauge wire direct run from 20A breakers. I configured this cord to the full 16A and it works perfectly at a full load. If you are using this on the go or on an unknown outlet - I would recommend 12A or less as many older 110v circuits do not have sufficient wire diameter or breaker rating to pull 15-16A Safely. Either way, this cord works exactly as advertised and can be "dialed back" on an unknown or lower amperage outlet. What I love ! -LED screen with indicators ! -17 feet of cord with control box Could be improved - - Control Box awkwardly close to the wall plug. Recommendation for Rexing - - I would gladly pay slightly more for an additional 6-10Ft of cord !

A flexible Level 1 charger for EV or PHEV owners

If you have an EV or PHEV, a spare charger (even a Level 1) can come in handy. Instead of just a simple charger, this Rexing has a display that lets you control how you charge your car. Quick Overview ================================= The Rexing J1772 16A portable charger looks like a standard Level 1 charging cable with a long 17' cord and a large "brick" that houses the charging mechanism. In this case, the "brick" actually has a display and a touch-sensitive button to control some settings. Instead of just plugging it in and walking away, you can make some interesting choices like choosing the power draw (8A, 10A, 12A or 16A) and how long you want to charge your car. Overall build and Performance ================================= The charger itself is built as well as an OEM charger with a thick, rubbery cord and a rubber non-slip base on the charging "brick". It comes with a nice carrying case that zips up if you want to take it with you. In the pictures, you can see it compared to a factory Mazda Level 1 charger. They look about the same size, etc., but the Rexing has the display, lights, and button that help you configure settings. Additionally, the display shows you how long you've been charging and how much power has been delivered. Regarding the ability to change the power draw - why would you want this? Well, depending on where you plug in, it may not support the maximum power draw of 16A. For example, I have a circuit in the garage that trips whenever it draws 16A. Instead of switching to an outlet further away, I can just set the adapter to draw 12A and walk away. Sure, charging will take a bit longer, but it's a slow Level 1 charger anyway, so I expected to leave the car for a few hours. I imagine this could be more useful if you were somewhere (friend's house? office?) that limited charging even further. A "dumb" 16A-only charger wouldn't allow you to charge, but you could drop this down to 8A-12A and see what works. Again, you'd have to leave your car even longer to charge, but that might be better than getting nothing. Conclusion ================================= This is a great portable charger that you can easily take with you (thanks to the carrying case). The flexibility of choosing your charging speed can really come in handy depending on where you plug in. I didn't get any sort of carrying case with my stock Mazda one, so this is my new "go to" charger.

I confess, the carry case really won me over, see attached picture. I like that this charger has a carry case because I keep the Rexing 16V charger in the car. It’s nice and neat in the charger’s carrying case in the back cargo area. I am not an electrical engineer, so volts and amps don’t really mean anything to me. Looking at the part that plugs into the electric outlet I was able to determine this particular charger will plug into any “normal” outlet. Woo Hoo! No fancy electrical outlet required. That’s why I decided to keep this one in the car. The Rexing 16A charger is similar to the charger that came with my hybrid. The Rexing charger is slightly smaller and lighter than the unit that came with the car. The Rexing charger has a 17 foot cord so it has a good reach. It took 17 hours and 40 minutes to fully charge the battery on my car. The charger that came with the car fully charges the car in the same time frame. The Rexing 16V charger is easy to use and don’t forget that carrying case!

This review is specific to PHEV. Most PHEVs uses phase 1 charging (EVs uses phase 3). This means this charges at a much slower rate than whats advertised for EVs. I get about 2 mile / hour charge on my 2024 RRS, which is twice as fast compared to the charger that came with my SUV. My outlet is backed by 20A breaker so i can utilize the max capacity. The display is useful and interactive, comes with a nice storage bag.

Charger is alot shorter than expected but I guess for the price I can’t complain. I was able to order it while I picked up another item. The delivery was free, but if ontrac delivers, they will just leave your packages at the door without even trying to alert the resident by knocking or ringing the bell. It isn’t convenient if you live in a theft-ridden area like east Oakland.

This Rexing J1772 EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) provides a well-designed and convenient option for charging EVs and PHEVs on the go. While it could also be used at home, most will likely want to opt for the 240V version for home use. Pros: - Solid construction. - Safety features are extensive and communicative. - Extra long 17ft cable is very useful for charging from exterior home outlets. - Display provides genuinely useful information about charging and errors. - Settings can be changed for the length of time to charge and the maximum allowable current. - The case includes a spot from which you could hang the unit on a wall. - Included travel case to keep this tidy in the trunk. - Easy to see color status light provides charging information at a glance. Cons: - That same charging status light is very bright. It would a nice security measure if it could be disabled to draw less attention to the unit in an outdoor parking setting. - The control button can be difficult to activate. - The “time” function is just a time limit for charging. It would be great to have a delayed start feature to allow charging to start at off peak times. The J1772 plug is standard for most EVs and PHEVs sold in the US in the past few years, although obviously Tesla is an exception. Note that these are not “chargers”. For A/C charging, the charger is actually in the car. This device simply connects and monitors power delivery, thus the EVSE designation. This device is very nicely designed, with a clear and genuinely helpful status display, a large charging status light, solid construction, and a nice long 17 ft cable. The latter is especially useful when charging on the go, because it makes it relatively easy to get from a power outlet on the side of a house to where the vehicle is parked. I used this unit on a recent trip to visit family and it gave plenty of length to run across the flower beds and to the driveway. There’s also a very nice travel case included to make it easy to toss this in the trunk and have it tidy and available whenever needed. The display provides useful information about the detected voltage, the current charging current limit setting, and various potential error conditions. During charging, it also shows the actual current draw, power draw, total charge time, and total power delivered. The current limit can be set at 10A, 12A, or 16A, providing a great way to limit charging if a circuit is being shared or has a smaller breaker. The limiter also helps to avoid overloading household wiring, a great safety feature. You can also set charge time, but note that this is just the length of time allowed for charging – it’s not a timer that could be used to activate during off peak hours. Off peak charging is less important for a portable charger, however, so this is not a major downside. While these settings are useful, actually setting them requires using a button/touch pad on the device which can be difficult to activate. Overall, this is a great option that provides helpful features, including some good safety features, in a well designed and well made unit that’s easy to take with you on the go.

The Rexing - 16A J1772 NEMA 5-15 Level 1 Portable EV Charger is a great on-the-go charger. The charger is constructed nicely and looks like it will stand up to wear and tear. It even comes with a carrying case. What’s so great about this charger compared to many others. A number of things: 1) an LED display on the charging brick 2) The ability to change the power draw (8, 10, 12, or 16A). Why is this important? Depending on the number of other devices plugged into the electrical circuit, a 16A draw maybe too much. It’s nice to be able to adjust the draw on the device directly. Of course the lower the draw, the slower the charging will be. 3) 17 foot cable. In most cases likely long enough, but a 25 foot cable would have been preferred Obviously this portable charger will not replace a level 2 charger or charge your car quickly when you need it. It’s ideal for when traveling and having a half-day or more to plug-in and charge while on the go. Overall, the Rexing 16A J1772 NEMA Level 1 charger is a great portable option. It has replaced the factory BMW level 1 charger included with my vehicle.

The Rexing - J1772 portable charger is a 16 A charger that is used to charge EV vehicles as well as Tesla EV vehicles. The Rexing charger comes in a well packaged and sturdy box. After opening the packaging box, I noticed it came inside of a nice zip up carrying case. The zip up case allows you to easily store it in the trunk or frunk of my Tesla EV, and take it with me on the go. I did notice a slight quality control issue. The part of the cable that has the screen had several deep scratches. It doesn’t look like it was damaged during shipping because it was wrapped in bubble wrap. It appears it was already scratched before it was shipped. The screen on the digital readout allows you to see the charing input/output. The quality of the screen is somewhat blurry. I won’t complain too much because many portable charging cables do not have this feature. When I charge my Tesla with this cable I was not able to get it to charge when I place the Rexing J1772 adapter on the end of this charging cable. However, when I place my OEM Tesla J1772 adapter on the end of this adapter it works perfectly fine. The cable is long and I had no issue getting it to reach to the charging port on my vehicle when plugged in. The adapter also comes with a removable rubber gasket. This allows you to cover the port from water and dust if you decide to use it outside or store it outside. Overall, it’s a pretty good portable charger for charging my Tesla EV vehicle.

I was really excited by the Rexing 16A charger for my Jeep Wrangler 4xE Plug-in Hybrid - We have a L2 charger for the house, but when traveling or visiting others, we sometimes want to get a little bit of overnight charge on-the-go or we sometimes want to have the ability to plug in at vacation houses, etc. This charger is a MUCH better made charger than the OEM Jeep charger that came with the vehicle, and with the Jeep charger rated at 12A, we thought we'd get a roughly 30% faster charge with this unit. That's the only real disappointment - With the 4xE, it seems with ANY L1 charger, you're limited to 12A max charging current until you step all of the way up to a full 30A charge. This prevented us from seeing any tangible advantage to this charger over the OEM 12A, but its a MUCH better made charger in the following ways: - The cables (both from the wall and to the charging port on the vehicle) are extremely pliable and soft: Much more flexible and 'bendy' than the OEM cord which is a more rigid copper feel. - The adapter part of the cord has a nice display that shows current charge rate (stuck at 12A on my Jeep despite being plugged into a 20A outlet!) and some other info such as the charge flow and status indicator. This adapter unit is also lighter than the OEM unit in my case. - The 3-prong 20A 5-15 NEMA cord end is NOT a 90-degree/gooseneck version, but a straight cable, which allows it to be used with MANY more outdoor/recessed outlets. This is a MASSIVE improvement over our OEM adapter, which required takeover of a whole gang of outdoor recessed/insulated outlets instead of using just one. - The entire unit is a bit shorter than every other one I've tested, so if you're not sure if the length is enough, it might be worth looking into the excellent 17' J1772 extension cord that Rexing also offers. - Both this and the extension cord come in really nice nylon zipper pouches that are the same shape and size so traveling with a stack of them is a breeze. Rexing seems to make high quality products and this one is no exception, If you need a replacement L1 charger for your EV/PHEV this is an excellent one, but dont expect higher charging performance due to the 16A rating if your vehicle governs/limits L1 charge rates.

    Basic, effective EV charger

One of the more annoying trends in EVs lately is the decision to stop bundling level 1 chargers with them. While it's true that technically one can get by without one these days, I maintain that charging up your car at home overnight is still by far the most convenient and cost effective way to make sure you stay topped up. This level 1 charger from Rexing is a very good, if somewhat basic, option for your EV that you can get without having to pay a premium for a first party option from the dealer. The charger itself isn't doing anything particularly unusual here. The 16A output is pretty typical for a level one charger, so a charging session is going to require several hours (unlike with a more powerful level 2 charger, which requires a 240v circuit to be added to your home.) The charger is built to be either thrown in your trunk using the convenient carrying bag or semi-permanently mounted on the wall using a few screw posts (not provided.) The cables are sturdy and long enough to work in a typical 2-car garage without issue, while still offering a relatively compact form factor for taking on the go. Some telemetry is available on the charger's screen, but I'll admit I usually forgot to look at it. Again, with level 1 chargers you're usually plugging it in at the end of the day so it can work overnight. I kind of take it as a given that it'll be ready to go after 8 hours. Frankly, it's a little hard to say much more about it. This is not a product that's trying to reinvent the wheel or dazzle you with features. It's a straightforward utilitarian attempt to fill a niche. The basic functionality is all here, which makes it an easy recommendation for anyone looking for a level 1 EV charging solution.

I have been very pleased with Rexing Portable Electric Vehicle charger. It is a very simple solution to all of us who do not have a stationary plug in installed at your house or work place. This set is a life saver as well as a money saver, as the install of a plug in may run into hundreds. Since it is a portable charger I can always bring it with me and get plugged in and charged up, and I have been lucky enough to be able to find external outlets. This is also handy when we travel and can use it anywhere at a Bed and Breakfast or family's house. It is ideal for standard household outlets with a max input of 16A and a max output of 110V. I also like that is comes with an extended cable length, which is a 17ft cable length, this charger guarantees flexibility and convenience as I mentioned in the situations above, perfectly suited for diverse settings such as garages and driveways. It is also supplied with a carrying case, so you can store this cable for easy transport. I really dig the LED Indicator & Built-In Interface in this charging cable. The charger's LED indicator lights display your car's charging status while the system interface screen gives a real-time update of charging voltage, charging amps, wattage, time, KWh charged, and settings, ensuring you have all the information at a glance. So need for an app of any kind, everything is displayed for your to see and know when you are going to be back on the road again. Definitely recommend this accessory to anyone with an EV, it is like having jumper cables in your old gasoline powered car.
