    Excellent upgrade for older vehicles!

This is an excellent Apple CarPlay (and Android Auto) device with wireless phone connectivity and lots of great features that check all the boxes for me. I own several moderately older vehicles from the pre-CarPlay era (5 vehicles from 2012-2015, some of which have BlueTooth, but none of which have CarPlay capabilities). This is a great upgrade for any of them! My main goal was a reasonably priced Apple CarPlay device with wireless connectivity that is moderate in size and easy to install and configure with a simple and responsive touch screen and good resolution. This fits the bill perfectly! What I like: [Size] – The 7 inch display is perfect for a dashboard mounted screen that can easily be reached by driver or passenger while being easy to read without blocking driver’s vision of the road. [Ease of installation] – The device came with everything necessary for an easy install on the dash. The only critical requirement is that you have a nice flat area in the middle of the dashboard to which to stick the approximately 5 inch based with the self-sticking tape. If you don’t have this, you may need to get more creative and possibly buy some additional mounting supplies. All 5 of my vehicles have a good mounting spot that works with the standard mount provided. Once the base is securely installed, you just attach the power wire and optionally the aux wire if you choose to use that. Tidy up the wiring a bit to your liking and done! [Good quality wiring] – wiring is not used to connect to phone – that is wireless. The wiring is used for power and optionally aux connectivity for audio over car speakers. Both wires have 90 degree connectors to neatly connect to the device from below. The power wire is nice and long and the aux wire is 3 feet which is plenty to reach from the device to the aux port on most cars. If not, other audio options work great. [Extra USB-C on cigarette lighter power adapter] – Thank you for having the extra USB-C port on the power adapter so I can charge phone on long trips while still using CarPlay. Other Rexing products I have used in the past did not have this and I always ask for it in my feedback (older cars which are the target for this device do not always have extra USB-C or even USB-A ports for phone charging). Glad to see Rexing is getting the message from users. [4 great audio options] – I tried all 4 options for audio from the device and all provide high quality audio. The easiest is the built-speaker on the device that provides surprisingly good audio. I am using the aux line where I run the provided aux cord from the device to my aux port (and then set my car audio to “aux”). I also tried the FM-radio approach (older cars may not have aux port or you may not want to run the extra wiring) where I selected a radio frequency and then tuned my FM radio to that frequency and the audio was great and overrode the public transmission on that channel perfectly. You can also connect the device to BlueTooth audio on the car and it works fine but I like this the least since it takes a bit more work to setup and may confuse people not used to doing this – the other options work great without the extra work. [Easy wireless phone connectivity] – Easy to pair your phone with the device via blue tooth using standard approach. Most people are used to this by now and understand the pairing process. You just find the device in your phone’s blue tooth config and tell it to connect to the named device. You phone will typically retain this device for auto connect next time you start the car and the phone sees the device signal. [Responsive screen with good resolution] – The screen is responsive to touch commands making it easy to use safely without excessive distraction from your driving. I am pretty careful about getting distracted by devices and I found this to be good for my primary use cases – Spotify or Apple music and Google Maps or Apple maps navigation. And it works well doing both nav and music at the same time where the nav directions override the music only when necessary. That is pretty much all I am willing to use these devices for and it works great for those use cases without much distraction from driving. [Good quality and warranty] – Typical of other Rexing products like dashcams, the device has good quality construction and materials and they give you an 18 month warranty if you register the device with them. [Good instructions] – Typical of other Rexing products, they include high quality instructions for installation and usage. This is becoming more and more rare from competitors with cut rate products often from other countries who are unable or unwilling to provide good instructions to get you on the road quickly. In summary, this is a great device for a major upgrade of older vehicles to add wireless Apple CarPlay (or Android Auto) with a nice touch screen at a reasonable price.

Didn’t expect much for $99 but it’s actually really good. Setup was easy, wireless CarPlay connects fast, and the screen is clear and responsive. Solid option if you don’t want to change the whole head unit. Definitely worth it.Love it so far

I am using this in my 2012 Honda CR-V here in Los Angeles, CA, and there is a lot to like. Installation is super easy and takes only minutes. My only complaint is that only a dashboard mount was included, which requires being glued rather than using a suction cup. I made sure to let the stand's adhesive cure for 3 days before hanging the screen to ensure it stays secure. I am happy with it.

There are many things I like a lot about it. First of all, it is super easy to install within minutes on a dashboard, and windshield mount is available too (optional). Second of all, it has a large 7 inch very bright touch screen display, which I especially appreciate for navigation use. Next, Android auto works like a charm with all the applications available for android auto devices, including navigation, music streaming, hands free calling, internet radios, weather, messaging, and many others. It also works with Apple CarPlay, although, I have not tested that. Currently we have pretty low temperatures in Illinois, and this device works without any problems in our climate so far. I highly recommend this device to anyone who needs a big screen device with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay included with additional options such as FM transmission or AUX transmission options to play music from your phone to your car stereo.

I was skeptical about a plug-and-play unit, but the touch response on this IPS screen is actually better than some factory systems I've used. Android Auto works wirelessly with zero lag. Setup took less than 5 minutes—plugged it into the 12V socket, paired my phone, and it was ready. The mount is sturdy even on bumpy roads. Highly recommend for anyone who needs navigation and music front-and-center.

Right up front, I will say that I am an electrical engineer and I design infotainment displays for multiple recreational vehicle and watercraft OEMs, so I have quite a bit of experience with similar products. My testing was only using Android Auto as I am not an Apple user, although I also tested the other non-CarPlay related features. I currently have been using a Rexing CPDuo-686 daily for the last year or so, and thus I will be comparing the CPStream7 experience to my experiences with that display. The build quality is solid and it is a good looking device. The LCD is large and bright and I will say that being larger, it is easier to use the touchscreen than with my CPDuo-686, which has a smaller 6.86", wide LCD. I had no issues in bright ambient light and the auto dimming worked well as it got darker outside. Bluetooth streaming worked well, as did the internal speakers and the RF transmitter. The RF transmitter is not something I would normally use, but it made a 20-hour drive in a U-Haul much more enjoyable. Android Auto worked as expected and I did not notice any issues other than the same Android Auto quirks that I have encountered with every Android Auto display I have ever used. These I know are not related to the Rexing display itself, these are actually Android issues. I am an audio snob and I value sound quality. I have found over the last year that the audio quality of my CPDuo-686 is actually exceptional. The sound quality of the CPStream7 however is, "odd". The bass is great, but there seems to be no channel separation from side-to-side or front-to-back, giving it an almost “mono” feeling. There is no fullness to the audio, which is very disappointing and a step backwards in my opinion. To me, it sounds like a lower-end DSP and/or audio DACs were used. For an average user, it may be just fine and I am just being overly picky, but I really expected more considering my previous experience with Rexing displays. On the mounting side, I used the existing mount from my CPDuo-686, which actually uses the same connection to the display (which was nice). The mount that comes with the CPStream7 is excellent and looks to use the same adhesive, which holds stunningly well. For cabling, Rexing did the smart thing with the CPStream7 and included what appears to be a standard power port adapter with one USB-A port (for the CPStream7 cable) and one USB-C port. This way you can run the CPStream7 and charge another device at the same time. This is an upgrade from what came with the CPDuo-686, which was just a wired power port adapter. On the other end, the USB-C connector at the display is a right angle, again which is an upgrade from the straight one used previously. I did notice something odd however when I used the CPStream7 with my existing Rexing hardwire power kit that I use with my CPDuo-686. The CPStream7 did not turn off when then vehicle was turned off, which was strange. Overall, I think it is a nice display that works as advertised, although in my opinion the audio quality could definitely use some improvement.

What I really like about this unit is that it's 7" screen. It's actually an IPS Screen that makes for wonderful colors even in sunlit rooms. It has a very wide viewing angle of 178 degrees which makes it nice when someone is not sitting directly in front of the unit. The CPStream 7 is compatible back to the iPhone 5 and newer. I really like that this unit is wireless and can connect with Bluetooth for Apple Car Play or Android Auto. Navigation is easier to see than on a smart phone. Another cool feature is that with an iPhone or an Android Phone (with an APP) you can connect to the Bluetooth original speakers in the car and send sound to your car speakers. I highly recommend the CPStream7 as a nice addition to your daily drive!

This device has breathed life into my older car. I can now see driving guidance on a nice, big screen without having to mount my phone. And being able to use other CarPlay apps is just icing on the cake! And I don't even have to plug in my phone.

The CarPlay device works, however the pictures shown in the product especially the location of jack/pins are not the same, the ports at the bottom and its hard to plug in or remove especially if you use the dash stand Also the description is deceptive, they said two way to connect and the only give the dash stand. When I reached their customer service and said yes I should get the two stands for windshield and the dash stands. They even send a second device although I asked them if that is true I get two stands. But when I receive the second device it docent have any stand for windshield. In addition the customer service sucks they don't know anything about the product or their policies, I have to spend hours and called atheist 15 times and no resolution, I just want to get rid of them by buying product and never have to do business with best buy.

I was impressed with the build quality immediately when I pulled it out of the box. Setup was quick and very easy and I like that it supports both Android Auto and Apple Carplay. My phone connects wirelessly very quickly. I haven't run into a single issue in the first week I have been using it. I only have 2 minor complaints. First, the color saturation isn't amazing, especially when compared side-by-side with my phone (not a dealbreaker). Second, I really wish the mounting situation was a bit better. It comes with one mount that is intended to attach to the rear of the display and sit on a flat surface. Unfortunately, for my use, that won't work as it will be right in my line of sight. I'll have to figure out something different.
