Why a separate ACC wire vs OBD2 inclusion

I love the OBD2 connection. I use an OBD2 connection on my other vehicles. I have a 2024 BMW with a fuse box that is way in the rear so I had to get more involved with the red fused ACC wire.
The obvious question is why is a separate ACC red wire needed versus getting the ACC power from the OBD2 connection?

Returned due to being misled by Rexing it was plug and play. You still have to connect the red wire to your fuse box and their is no fuse box by the OBD port.

Hello,
I apologize for any misunderstanding. We actually offer two types of hardwire kits with OBD ports. One includes a red wire, while the other is a plug-and-play version that connects directly to the OBD port. The plug-and-play option is our Dual Intelligent Hardwire Kit – Compatible with Type-C & Mini USB for All Rexing Dash Cams (Black).

This kit comes with no instructions whatsoever, despite being advertised as a plug-and-play OBD solution. In reality, it requires tapping into a fuse to function—a crucial detail that isn’t mentioned anywhere. To make matters worse, the included hardwired fuse is incompatible with many newer vehicles, creating unnecessary installation headaches. When I reached out to customer support for guidance, their responses were vague, unhelpful, and in some cases, outright incorrect. If you’re looking for a true plug-and-play solution, this is not it.

Hi! Thanks for your review!
Yes, compared to other hardwire kits, it is much easier because it is only ONE fuse. There is an image on that page that shows how that hardwire kit is connected.
All OBD ports are constantly powered, which does not allow the camera to shut off with your ignition. That is where the Red wire comes in.
