Very good dash cam as a first time buyer. Recording quality and app connnection is easy to use. Even if you do not want to power the cam by 12v, included in the box is a hardwire kit.

    Great front, poor rear

The V1P Plus is pretty similar to most of the other offerings in its price range, offering 1080P front camera... but the rear is inexplicably VGA. Think old school flash vids from the 90s. I can see why they'd want to differentiate between this mid-tier and their higher tier Pro model, but the difference in video quality comparing the front and rear cameras is so dramatic that it's hard to recommend this particular model. If you really don't need a rear cam, then this is a great value. The installation itself was fine, as there are thankfully multiple Youtube videos on how to wire the cam to your car's fusebox, or you can just plug into the 12v DC outlet. Given the blistering quality of phone screens which we look at several times a day, trying to look at the rear cam footage is pretty painful. With that caveat, the overall quality and specs of the Plus are adequate for everyday use.

    Dash Cam review

This has been the best dash cam of all the ones I've used. I especially like the rear facing cam for towing my 5th wheel camper. I can keep an eye on the hitch and wiring connector while towing, then utilize it for driving coverage of the rear when not towing the camper. The installation and setup was easy. I was done in about 20 minutes.

We had this installed at Best Buy which was very easy. Because of them it was already running when i got the car back. We were able to figure out how to connect the wifi and got it connected by just hitting a bunch of options, not just holding the ok button as the book directed. We are now working on how to view videos if we are not sitting in the car. Seems the best option is to pull the memory card. Im sure we will get this all figured out in the next few days. But definitely new for us. The picture quality is beautiful and the devise is small and not in the way.

I was really excited to try this product. The install couldn't have been simpler, and the front camera has great quality, both in video- and audio, which was a surprise. I travel a lot in my job and this camera helps make me feel more secure when traveling through unfamiliar areas, especially in areas with heavy traffic when accidents are most prone to happen. However, for the price, I expected higher quality for the rear camera. It was so bad as to be unusable. If you just need a front camera, this is a good option, but if you depend on rear recording, skip this one.

Rear Camera Plug Difficult for SUVs and Hatchbacks

The Rexing V1P Plus is a kit that comes with a lot of extras so you don’t need to buy additional tools. However, it has one major flaw for a DIY installer with an SUV or hatchback: the rear camera has a wire that’s not detachable from the camera itself. For a clean install, you have to fish the wire from the plug end through the tailgate/hatchback grommet. And the problem doing that is the plug has a right angle bend, making it nearly impossible to pass the wire through the grommet, depending on how your car is designed. If you have a sedan, this is not an issue as you won’t be pulling the wire through a grommet. Otherwise, I’d find a dash cam that has a rear camera straight plug, or get an extension wire, or get someone to install it for you. PROs • Front camera is easy to install with the provided tools. If you’re unsure how to do this, lots of videos on the internet will show you how. • Includes hardwire kit if you don’t want to use the cigarette socket. • Includes cable clips for areas where it’s not feasible to tuck the cable into the headliner • Has a 2.4” screen to review the video immediately without downloading or transferring the micro SD card • Includes a 32 GB micro SD card CONs • Rear camera cable is not detachable from the camera itself. And the plug for the rear camera has a right angle joint and that makes it really difficult to thread the cable through the grommet of an SUV tailgate. In my case, the tip of the plug broke off when trying to get it through, so the rear camera is useless to me now, unless I go through the hassle of splicing it to a new plug. If you have an SUV or hatchback, I’d find another camera with an easier to pass-through wire. • The playback screen is at an odd angle such that you can’t view it when mounted on the windshield. I leave the screen turned off while driving since it’s useless anyway. My next dash cam will either have a more usable mounted screen, or none at all which would make it smaller and more discreet. • The front camera uses a stick-on mount without a full swivel (you can rotate the camera lens up and down a bit). That combined with the angle of the screen makes it cumbersome to get a straight horizon video. • No wi-fi • GPS requires an optional accessory. • No 4K video, only 1080p (front) and 480p (rear) • Overall image is a bit too contrasty. During the day, it’s not a problem. But at night, many signs, especially bright ones, get washed out. To be fair, night vision is a weakness of all dash cams. And many, like this one, cannot make out the license plate number when headlights shine straight on to the plates in front of you. Bottom line is this dash cam has some extras, but no GPS built-in, 4K resolution, or wi-fi. If you can get a good price, and you don’t have an SUV or hatchback, and don't mind its size, then it’s worth considering.

I purchased two of these dash cams on sale at Best Buy, at what basically were employee pricing prices, so I was thrilled. It had been recommended to me by a friend whose son works at Best Buy. The unit has great video quality in front and acceptable quality in the rear, and even comes with a small micro SD card. It takes some learning to get used to, but does its job well. It is very unobtrusive and you barely notice it's there. It provides a layer of protection should something happen, and allows you to permanently store events you don't want to write over. Using the optional hardwire kit, it can be made to be always on so that if your vehicle is parked, it will self-activate and start recording if someone hits you. And if you contact Rexing with the unit's serial number, they will ship you a hardwire kit for free. For the money, I felt this unit was an outstanding value, I'm sure better units exist, but none match the value of this one.

When I first opened the package, I thought the installation seemed a bit daunting, but once I looked over the videos and materials, it was fairly seamless. Great field of vision and excellent clarity. Even the lower res rear camera is clear enough to easily read plates and details. I personally do not need full HD in a camera specifically purposed to be a failsafe in the unplanned, so this wasn't a problem. If that is a need of yours, be aware. The looping function is great, and the "hands-off" approach is perfect. Truly set it and forget it. I did the hard-wire method instead of using the car charger. To note, you may want to keep a few fuse connectors on hand, because the holder provided with the unit a blown fuse to be replaced. For anyone with minor electric ingenuity, replacing it wouldn't be too difficult. Overall, I wish I had this a few months ago, but it's those situations that propel you to be prepared just in case. Great unit, and for the cost, can't be beat.

I’m so happy with this new dash cam! The videos this camera takes are really good!! You can see so much details on other ppl’s cars!!! The rear camera is a lil less quality but that’s fine. I installed it my self since it’s pretty easy to do so.

I've had the V1P for a few years. Like other reviewers state, the front camera is remarkable. You can zoom in on the video later and read license plate numbers or other incidentals. The rear camera is horrid. Black and white only and it looks like you're looking through a glass of water. No license plate numbers even 5 feet away in traffic. I have the 32g memory card which gives about thirty hours of recording in five minute files before it over writes the older video. Easy to install with a power port adapter. I went over the top and permanently installed the unit running all the wiring in the headliner and behind the dash. The unit is small enough to hide behind the rear view mirror in the center of the windshield.

So I have had the dash and rear cam for about 3 weeks. Everything seems to be going good except for every now and than it randomly says is in emergency mode when I hit a pot hole or I drive over something that makes the my vehicle vibrate. I’m not for sure what the emergency mode means but I tried looking it up in my manual and it does not explain anything whatsoever about what it is doing. Also I paid $259 plus tax for this dash cam and it did not come with the SD card which is another $50 plus tax. I’m not too sure about installation because I had Best Buy install it because the instructions were a little complicated. Also another thing I did not like about this camera was the time stamp is in military time. Other than that it’s been easy to hook to the internet WiFi though the app and reply video. I would recommend this dash and rear cam because it’s fairly easy to look at the footage video anytime you need to.

Works better than expected other than the rear camera. Every time I start my car the rear camera doesn’t turn on so I need to unplug it and plug back in. If you want to download videos directly to your phone you need to buy a separate gps locator for the camera.

I am very happy with this dash cam. It does take great pictures. Initially, I did have trouble with the "Intelligent Hardwire Kit" with the motion detector not activating the camera. Once I took it out for a drive to charge the camera battery it started functioning properly. I haven't had any problems since. (The motion detector hardwire kit is an accessory purchased separately and activates when the car is parked and something walks or drives by.)
