    Gaming Can Be Divinely Comfortable

Plantronics - RIG 500 PRO HS I’m an avid gamer. I love every aspect of gaming, one of which is the sound that compliments the gaming experience. As any gamer knows, there are those long gaming sessions that we lose ourselves in. Having a comfortable headset is a necessity in the gaming world. The Plantronics RIG 500 Pro is a new level of comfort that I honestly didn’t think as feasible with a gaming headset. In past cases of owning other gaming headsets, there seemed to be some kind of issue that allowed me to be fully comfortable. My previous headset delivered on the sound but after an hour, the headband would start to dig into the top of my head. Sometimes if I shifted the headset, the gaming glasses that I wore would be knocked askew because the headset wasn’t accommodating to people needing to wear regular or gaming glasses. The RIG 500 Pro dissolves all of those concerns for the casual and hardcore gamer. I spent four hours wearing the RIG 500 Pro and I didn’t notice any discomfort around the head. The cushioned ear cups feel as if my ears are being cradled by a loving angel. The soft cushions never became a ‘vice’ after a couple of hours. I also didn’t have to adjust the ear cups to allow my ears to ‘breathe’ after a few hours. And the sound is amazing. I play all kinds of games from Call Of Duty, Fornite to Role Playing Games and action games like The Witcher 3 and Batman Arkham games. Each one of these games was delivered in clear and crisp sounds. In fact, during The Witcher 3, I realized that there were sounds that I hadn’t heard with my previous headset. This offered a new kind of immersion as a gamer. The design of the RIG 500 Pro is very ‘futuristic industrial’. The ear cups can be adjusted by popping them out of their slot and then snapping them into your preferred size space. They don’t feel like they are going to fall apart. The top of the headset is a dual headband. One is a honeycomb fabric design that rests on your head while the other is the frame of the headset that never rests on your skull which is probably why I didn’t feel that digging discomfort like I had with my others. The wire that plugs into the PS4 controller is a decent length and I haven’t had any issues of accidental pulls with it so far. The volume dial is fluid and allows you to lock the sound to a maximum or off position. If you have one of the newer Xbox One controllers with a headphone jack, this RIG 500 Pro will plug into it. However, when it comes to mic monitoring aka voice feedback, I wasn’t loving the experience. Mic monitoring allows the gamer to talk to a party or talk to the streaming audience without having to be loud because he or she can hear their own voice through the headset. The RIG 500 Pro doesn’t offer that which seems confusing when other headsets offer that feature. When it comes to comfort and sound, the RIG 500 Pro has the player covered. Awesome design, fantastic comfort, and great sound. All of these provide immersive gaming experiences.

Let's just get into the most important thing: Sound. Quite good! They aren't super bass heavy which is nice and the sound quality is crisp overall. Sound separation was good as well and you could hear things from different locations quite precisely. However, volume seemed to be slightly lower than other headsets that I own. Not quiet but just noticed that I the loud end of the range wasn't quite as loud as others. But, my favorite feature on this headset is the volume knob at the connection to the PS4 controller. So awesome! The smartly designed rubber gasket that conforms to the curve on the PS4 controller prevents the 3.5mm audio jack from rotating when you turn the volume knob. Smart. And the knob itself is stiff and has some resistance so there is little change of accidentally changing volume brushing up against the controller or something like that. The other end of the detachable cable is a right-angle which allows it to rotate on the headset and the cable length is just about right since it's going to be plugged in to your controller. The flip-up/down microphone was cool with muting the mic when you flip it up. Simple and elegant solution without any additional buttons. Nice. Fit: The cushioned headband is extremely comfortable and the cushioned earcups are as well. However, after adjusting the headset to it's largest configuration, it flared out slightly on my 59cm circumference head. It's not uncomfortable by any means and doesn't let in any outside sound, but just note that it may not fit perfectly for someone with a large head like myself. Overall, for the money, these are great. Nice construction, maybe a little loud on the design with the tons of angles and stuff, but a solid buy for a PS4 owner. One last thing: Although these are marketed as a PS4 headset, you can use these with any device that has a 3.5mm audio jack. The contoured rubber gasket is removable and then you can use these with other audio devices.

What's in the box ----------------- 1. Headset Frame 2. Stereo earcups with self-adjusting headband 3. Removable Mic Boom 4. Audo cable with volume dial 5. Adapter for DUALSHOCK wireless controller Pros ---- 1. The audio cable goes in flush into the controller and the volume controller is right on the cable which is great. 2. Mic is removable! this is a great option when you want to use the headset to just listen music 3. Earcups are really comfortable, does not cause fatigue to your ears when you use for a long time. 4. Nice metal headband with a supporting band, very durable 5. Height adjustable ear cups. Cons ---- 1. Have a bass boost button like the sony bluetooth ones? Review ------ I am a gamer but not really regular, i would say once in a week. I got this headset to test out playing at night and not wantoing to wake anybody up with the rumble of the home theater and the 5.1 sound. I have a PS4 connected to a Onkyo Home theater system with tower speakers. The setup was easy, the headset comes fully assembled and only thing you need to do is to adjust it to fit you. The adjustment is a little different here as you need to remove the cups and adjust the height. I have a big head and i found it comfortable and snug. The headphone frame looks to be made of metal and i think it is going to be very durable. The headphone jack (3.5mm) plugs right into the controller. Volumne knob is on the cable itself instead of the headphone which makes it easier to adjust the volume easily while playing. The Mic is removable which is good. The mic mutes if you push it up and it is unmuted if it is down. i think this is a good innovative feature instead of a mute button which you may need to search for. Now for the sound, i think it has as great soundstage. I could hear the multi dimensional sound as it should be on a surround sound. I normally play shooter games and if the bombs go out on the side, the headphones would make you feel as such. I think it keeps you engaged. Mic is very clear. I have an accent and others had not issues following me. I also tested with music. Although it does not have the bass like the Sony or beats, the music comes out crystal clear. The feature of removable mic is great because you can use it like a regular headphone for listening to music. Overall, i recommend the product with a 5*

This is the second pair of headphones I have purchased from Plantronics and they don't last. I just went out and bought the steelseries arctic pro 7 wireless headset and I was blown away by the quality and the sound. And calling customer support for a replacement part to fix this poorly made product is a joke.

The Plantronics - RIG 500 PRO HS Wired Gaming Headset for PlayStation 4 - Black provides amazing sound and control for those demanding the best for their gaming experience. Compatible for both the Playstation 4 or Xbox One controller, this headset produced high quaily and wide range sound during my trial run. It was comfortable, easy to use, provided quick adjustments to the sound when I needed it and was a great addition to the overall gaming experience. PROS - Comfortable and lightweight - High-quality sound and frequency ranges - Quality build by Plantronics - Compatible with PS4 or XboxOne - Full of features for a great gaming experience CONS - The only issue I had was that the adapter for XboxOne was what I felt to be upside down from a natural position. I would have preferred it the other direction.

I've had a few headsets for my PS4, but this one is my favorite now. It looked a little awkward having essentially 2 tops (a soft one and a hard one), but upon trying it on, the soft bendable one that actually sits on your head allows you to wear the headset for long periods of time without hurting the top of your head. The other great part of this headset is the auto-mute when you swing the mic in an upward position, which I find myself doing often when I want to eat whatever snack I have! And finally having the volume control on the base of the cable at the PS4 controller is pretty handy and quite to turn up and turn down.

This headset Really surprised me for what you are getting in this price range. The only reason I did not give these a 5 star review was because of overall quality. First thing I was not impressed by was the build quality. These headphones look awesome but as soon as you touch them they feel very cheap. They are made entirely out of plastic. This is also a partial pro though because they are lightweight and this is helpful when wearing them for long periods of time. The other con is the accessories. It only came with the headset, mic, and one cable to plug them into your headphones. It would have been nice if a carrying case was included but it was not. Those are really the only negative things. These headphones were extremely comfortable compared to others I have used. In addition, the sound quality was much better than others in the price range. There is a volume knob built into the chord which is easy to adjust quickly while playing games. Although I would recommend these to most people looking for a cheaper headset, I would caution that the build quality is not the best and I am not sure long turn how durable they will be.

An outside of normal review for the Plantronics RIG 500 Gaming Headset for the PS4 as my original unit was faulty (bad audio connector, so only getting mono). Rather than return to BestBuy I ended up using the Plantronics warranty as the RIG 500 has 12 month coverage. Positive. Plantronics online support (twitter) is fantastic and after registering and returning (at my cost) a new headset arrived. This is a serious looking gaming headset. Everything snaps, clicks, and locks into place in solid industrial way. It's not a headset that you would use for dual use (i.e. not as a phone headset on the bus) as it screams gaming. Audio quality is great, microphone is solid and you can rotate it to mute. The audio cable has a volume control which is wonderful. As usually that's my pain point with gaming headsets. You're stuck at one volume and can't adjust audio at all. Not so with the RIG 500 where the little volume dial giving you the control you need. Random aside, there's a little rubber nub on the headphone jack that helps the RIG 500 stay flush with your PS4 controller. The rubber nub can be removed, so I am guessing you could use it as a headset elsewhere but I didn't want to test. Would have been 5 stars if it was perfect out of the box and didn't have to replace. 4 stars because replacement was easy, great support and build quality is otherwise great, I just got unlucky.

I don't mind the one cord that plugs into the controller. The headset is very comfortable and light for long gameplay sessions. I love the break-away ear cups because I have a 2-year-old and she gets into my headphones sometimes. When she pulls on these I don't worry them breaking. The sound quality is really good and the volume control is a super simple turn dial. Mute control by raising the microphone up.
