My son loves these headphones for gaming as well as doing his school work.

I’ll admit that I’m more of a PC gamer rather than a console gamer but there are a couple of games I do like on the console better, including racing games. My gaming rig includes a Playseat racing seat with wheel and pedal stand. The biggest drawback I’ve had with the experience is getting immersive sound. Speaker placement can be tricky enough since I can’t leave my rig sitting in the middle of the floor. The solution? A great set of surround sound headphones. This is where the Plantronics Rig500 Pro HX headphones come in and boy do they. I fired up Forza 7 on my X-Box One S and plugged in the Rig500 Pro HX and got the immersive sound I had been looking for. Plenty of volume and bass with amazing clarity with the bonus of not disturbing my wife while she’s watching her TV shows in the next room. The sound is clear and with them being surround sound capable I get true immersion with all ambient sounds coming from all around. The fit is comfortable. I do have a larger head so I do max out the adjustment on the band but I do love that the rigid bridge between ear cups does not come in contact with your head but rather there is a soft material under the bridge that is more like a hammock making the points of contact with your head very comfortable. The foam on the cups are very supple. The metal bridge has just the right amount of tension to keep the headset firmly planted on your head but not so much that it’s uncomfortable. The cord is long enough for connecting to the X-Box controller and the volume control knob on the jack itself is a great touch so you can fine-tune your experience. With a little bit of creativity (actually just picking up a mic/headset extension cable and splitter you can also connect it to a PC mic and headphone jacks. My only complaint is that I max out the adjustment because of the size of my head so these fit in that category of one size fits most with me being the few that stretch it to the limits. They do put a little pressure on my ears, tugging slightly up while they fit snuggly into the ear cups. There are a lot of choices for surround sound gaming headsets, and I have a few of them. At the price point of around $80 the Plantronics Rig500 Pro HX should be on your short list to consider.

The band on the headset was very uncomfortable even after readjusting wasn't something I could wear for a long time while playing.

Let me start off on how hard it is to find headsets that are comfortable for someone that wears prescription glasses. The design on how they auto adjust for the size of your head had me concern they were going to be uncomfortable. Well I was wrong and I can say that now this are my go to gaming headsets after using Turtle Beach headsets for the last 6 years. First thing to do is to make sure you set them up correctly for your head size. The headset has 3 levels on each side to accommodate most head sizes. I found the the last level to work well for me. One thing I like about this headsets is the material they used for the ear pads. It’s mostly a soft leather material but cloth for the top that makes contacts with your ears. The Turtle Beach headsets I been using are all soft leather ear pads that after an hour they can get warm. With this headsets since the contact part is cloth is helps a lot to keep your ears cool. Let’s move on to sound quality and it’s very good. It produces a clear nice rich sound that the only thing missing is and that it can benefit from is more bass. When you’re playing action oriented games you want to be able to feel those explosions and that to me it what makes a good gaming headset. If this were strictly use for music it’s fine since you don’t want the bass to drown out the mid highs and vocals. Don’t get me wrong there is some bass but would be nice if it was increased a couple of more knots. A big bonus is they utilized a stander 3.5mm headphone jack for connecting them to your Xbox. If you have some headphones laying around that have the detachable 3.5mm jack cable or aka Aux Cable you can use those to connect them with the Xbox and PS4. If you’re like me and have both consoles this a big plus. Not sure why they insist on creating 2 SKU products since all it is a simple cable that can remedy the compatibility issue. I’m positive the PS4 edition are going to sound the same as this. Only difference is that this come with a code to unlock the Dolby Atmos app that can be used on your PC too. The Dolby Atmos app is what handles the Atmos surround that some games take advantage of. Even on their website description the app is designed to work with any headsets to provide the Atmos surround sound. I didn’t have a game that takes advantage of the Atmos but they do have some videos on their app to give you a demo on how it would sound. In my opinion it sound better but not to the point that I was blown away. Not sure if the app helps to improve sound on games that don’t take advantage of it. The build quality is made mostly out of plastic. It is a thin plastic so I wouldn’t recommend stretching too much to me it seems it might snap. Since the jack is not proprietary that means you not left at the mercy of the company when it comes to to buying a replacement. Only thing you will loss if you used another cable instead of the one that came with the headset is the ability to adjust the volume. To me is not much of a bother since I hardly adjust the volume level. Overall is a good gaming headset. what keeps this from being a 5 is the lack of bass and would of like for the plastic housing to be of a thicker quaility. If you're careful with your headphones this should be fine.
