Awesome cameras, great for indoor home monitoring

The video quality is great and motion detection is easy to set up. The batteries also last a while before they need to be charged. I’ve had these cameras set up for 2 months on a 50% charge and they’re just now hitting low battery.

Initially they seemed fine. Good person detection. But what about motion besides people or when it doesn't recognize the motion as a person? Doesn't work that well. I discovered two bugs one of which noted on a Reddit thread that goes back at least 6 years and hasn't been fixed yet. The first bug is that if you rename the device(s), then motion detection stops working. If you look at the apps notification settings, it has the old names for the devices, it wasn't updated. I tried rebooting the devices, disabling the app and opening it again and restarting the phone. Nothing worked. Reddit users noted an app update might work and deleting and reinstalling the app may or may not work. What I ended up doing was deleting the devices and then adding them again. Then everything was reset and worked again. However, about 12 hours later, motion detection stopped working. I rebooted the devices and one started working again but the other didn't. If not for these problems would be 5 stars.

Rest assured, we are here today to provide you with some information in order to ensure you get the most out of your motion detection! We are confident we can find a solution that works well for you and your home’s environment.
It sounds like you have some concerns with your device's motion detection. If your device name is changed and the app does not update the notification settings, we recommend the following steps:
Make sure you're using the latest version of the Ring app.
Try uninstalling and reinstalling the app to refresh its connection.
Delete the device from the app and add it back again.
If your device appears to be missing a lot of motion, you may want to check the motion frequency setting. The motion frequency control allows you to reduce alerts from repetitive patterns of motion or increase alerts so you get notified about the motion events that matter to you.
Follow these steps to adjust the motion frequency:
Tap the menu (≡) on the top left of the Dashboard.
Tap Devices.
Select the device you'd like to adjust.
Tap Motion Settings.
Tap Advanced Settings.
Tap Motion Frequency.
Select Frequently, Regularly or Periodically.
Frequently: Motion detection always stays active. Shortest battery life.
Regularly: Motion detection takes a short break after each Motion Alert. Medium battery life.
Periodically: Motion detection takes a longer break after each alert. Maximum battery life.
Tap Save in the upper-right corner.

The batteries last about 2 months in high traffic areas so keep your chargers close. Good Cam to make sure kids keep their hands out of the cookie jar.

We can definitely offer you some information regarding the video quality and night vision concerns that you mentioned in your review.
Ring devices require high-speed internet to bring you crisp, clear video and audio. Poor network connectivity can affect the performance of your Ring device. We are happy to share some troubleshooting steps to help you diagnose and fix common video issues that you may experience with Ring doorbells and cameras.
Ring devices with 1080p video require at least 1 Mbps upload and download speeds, though 2 Mbps is recommended for optimal performance. In addition to ensuring that you have sufficient wifi speeds, you will also want to check the signal strength of your device. A poor wifi signal can cause connectivity with your Ring device to be unreliable.
It sounds like the device is not performing as expected in regards to "Night Vision." To ensure that the "Night Vision" feature works as intended, make sure your Indoor Cam’s infrared light is toggled on in the Ring app. The infrared light control is in your Ring app under Video Settings. Enable "Color Night Vision" in the Ring app to help improve clarity at night.
To turn the "Color Night Vision" on or off, follow these instructions:
Open the Ring app.
Tap the "Menu" (☰).
Tap "Devices."
Select the device you want to adjust.
Tap "Device Settings."
Tap "Video Settings."
Toggle "Color Night Vision" on or off.
