Quick thoughts: I really like this alarm and find it to function very well. Previously I had the Nest Secure and find the Ring alarm to be a more complete package. The Ring alarm is easy to install and you don’t have to pay for monitoring unless you want to. The alarm will still function without monitoring and will alert you via the Ring app if it goes off. The expandability of the Ring alarm is a major plus and the cost for extra sensors is quite reasonable. I would highly recommend this alarm to anyone not sure of what to get. I find to be the best value and backed by a large company (Amazon now owns Ring). The alarm components don’t come in a fancy box or physically “feel” as premium as the Nest did. However, you don’t unbox and feel the alarm but once to install it. The functionality is what’s important and the Ring feels of high quality in use. Now the full review: Install: First, download the Ring application to your phone and create a Ring account. From there you’ll be walked through each step as you install the base station, keypad, and sensors. Base station install: You can use Wifi or a wired connection to your router. The base station can be placed on a flat surface like a table to counter if you want. The more secure method though is to mount it to a wall. I have mine hidden behind a display cabinet to delay it being found. The alarm is built into the base station and is quite loud. Serves as a great deterrent and given the location of my base station it cannot be easily disabled when sounding. You’d have to move a several hundred pound piece of furniture. Sensor install: The app will give guidance on how to mount the sensors and verify they are installed properly before moving forward. You don’t need to be super tech savvy to install and use this alarm. All needed hardware is included to install the sensors. I used the included sticky tape and it worked quite well. If your not confident in the sticky tape provided you can buy stronger tape at the hardware store and just cut it to size. You can use the provided screws to mount the sensors as well if you prefer a super stable mounting platform. The sensors include tamper sensors too so if the sensor is at any point opened it will alert you via the Ring app. Programming the alarm: Arming: The alarm is easy to program via the Ring application on your phone. Within the app you can change the alarm pin code and make temporary ones to give out if a visitor is coming and your not home. The pin is what you use to arm and disarm the alarm via the included keypad. The keypad is rechargeable to you don’t have to plug it in except to recharge it. Within the Ring app you can see the battery level of the keypad so you know when to charge it. You can leave it plugged into an outlet if you want to, it uses micro usb to charge and include the charging cable in the box. I charge my keypad once every two months and use it daily. You can also use the Ring app to arm and disarm the alarm. I prefer the app to disarm so the alarm is off as I pull into my garage. Delay function: You can set the delay time for when you leave and when you arrive home. It can be between 0 seconds and 180 seconds. The away delay is set independent of the arrival delay. For example you can set the delay to arm the alarm when you set it to 120 seconds so you have time to leave and lock up prior to the alarm setting. You can then adjust the arrival delay to 0 seconds if you want so that the alarm goes off instantly when a sensor is set off. I really like this function as I don’t want the alarm to delay going off if I am sleeping. It also helps deter a would-be intruder if they hear an alarm as soon as they try to make entry into a home. The 0 second delay for setting the alarm off is only available if you choose self monitoring though. So if you pay for Ring monitoring (you don’t have to, all functions work without it) then you must include a delay before the alarm with go off. Siren sound: This seems to be updated with firmware updates to the base station. I just updated mine and the siren sound now has two tones and is incredibly loud. It is a sound that I would choose for an alarm if I could. The alarm siren cannot be modified or changed by the user. Chime: You can set each door or window sensor to chime when they are opened and the alarm is off. You can choose between 5 or so chimes and each sensor can be programmed on its own. So you can have a different chime for the front and back door and the windows. You can also set it so only certain sensors chime. The motion sensors cannot be set to chime. Sensitivity: Each motion sensor has adjustable sensitivity if you need to adjust it after install. This is done within the Ring app. The door and window sensors are not adjustable and don’t need to be as they don’t sense motion. Sensor batteries: Each sensor runs on a battery that is included with the sensors. I have had mine installed for over 3 months and the battery level is still showing full. I am confident I won’t change the batteries for at least a year, probably a lot longer. You check the battery level within the Ring app. The keypad is rechargeable and the charge on it lasts about 2 months for me. I use it daily. Monitoring: You can pay for monitoring if you choose to. Unlike some other alarms you don’t lose any alarm functionality by self-monitoring though. The only difference is if your alarm goes off you won’t get a phone call from the alarm company telling you it is sounding and you’ll have to call the police yourself if they are needed. You’ll have to decide if that is important to you. If you chose to pay for monitoring it is easy to set up within the Ring app on your phone. What happens when the alarm goes off: The siren on the base station will sound when the alarm is triggered by a sensor. You will receive a notification on your phone from the Ring app that your alarm is sounding and it will identify which sensor set it off. You can disarm the alarm within the Ring app or with the keypad. If you don’t have internet service to receive the notification within the Ring app then you won’t know it is sounding until you get service back. You can also choose to receive an email when the alarm goes off. If you pay for monitoring then the monitoring service will call you when the alarm sounds. This may be of benefit if you frequent areas that don’t have internet service for your phone. What’s the siren sound like: It’s loud and sounds exactly how you want an alarm siren to sound. There seems to be two tones that work simultaneously and cause a disorienting sensation when you’re near the base station. Certainly a great deterrent as there’s no guessing there’s an alarm going off. Is it easy to use: Yes, very. How does it compare to the Nest Secure: The Ring alarm is a much better value and offers more expandability than the Nest does. I would recommend the Nest for small space like an apartment or similarly sized area. Even so, I still prefer the Ring as it does the same things for quite a bit less money. The Nest feels more premium, but as I stated earlier, you don’t feel your alarm. You use it. If you have a lot of other Nest products then it might be worth the extra cost for the Nest Secure. It will integrate well with your Nest cams and shows an image from the camera closest to the sensor that set off your alarm if you have Nest cams and the Nest Secure. So that is one benefit. I have 5 Nest cams and still chose the Ring alarm over the Nest though. It just makes more sense for me. I can look at my cameras if the alarm goes off. I also find the Ring base to be more securely mounted (and hidden) versus the Nest Secure base. The Nest base if designed to be set on a table or desk and not mounted to a wall. I didn’t like that. Do I recommend the Ring Alarm: Absolutely. I researched every alarm available that I could install myself and settled on this one. It has full functionality without having to pay for monitoring (some other brands limit what you can do unless you pay for monitoring) and just plain works without issue. In over 3 months there hasn’t been a single false alarm or issue. The Ring brand is heavily invested in this product and they are a very stable company. If given the opportunity to select any alarm for free, I would still choose the Ring Alarm. It is just that good.

The Ring Alarm system is my first foray into the Ring ecosystem of products, and I must say I'm very pleased. I've had the product almost a month now and here's a few things that really stand out to me. PROS: - Ease of use. I was able to easily connect the system to my Wi-Fi mesh network. They give you written instructions in the box, a video guide in the app, and tons of links to helpful FAQs on their website should you run into trouble or have concerns about where to best place the sensors and whatnot. Seriously well thought out and designed. All my concerns I had going into it were addressed throughout the process. Additionally, the app (using your location) automatically sends you a message once you're finished with set-up, and direct links you to your city's website regarding permits your area may require in order for you to operate one of these alarm systems in your home. Really dang cool. They even give you a trial period where for the first 7 days of your alarm being set-up, they will not contact local authorities if it's triggered; giving you a good amount of time to get familiar with the system and make any last minute changes to your where your sensors are placed and such. This system and the app, like I said, are really well designed. You can set your alarm status all through your phone on the app, or you can use the physical keypad that it comes with. -Options. Another thing I appreciate about this system is the options Ring gives you. For instance, I mentioned using the keypad, you have the option to mount it to the wall, or you can even keep it mobile (albeit plugging it in when it needs to be charged) and move it throughout your house. Same for the Chime base station box itself, you've got a number of options. You can connect via WiFi, or you can use direct Ethernet connection. You get to choose the noise it makes when sensors are triggered, how loud it is, if certain sensors ring right away or if there's a bit of a delay before it goes off so you have time to turn off the alarm (for something like an entry way for example). You've also got plenty of options in terms of alarm plans as well. The highest plan is only $10 a month (which can be cancelled at any time by the way) and gives you 'professional monitoring.' Meaning, that if your power goes out or something, your system will then connect via cellular as a backup and still remain online (up to 24 hours). This top teir plan is automatically gifted to you for 30 days (not including your 7 day trial period for setting the system up). They also do not charge you any move fees or anything like that (since you're the one who's gonna have to bring the stuff with you and set it all up again ;]) so no worries there. CONS: Not many. The only thing I can think of is that both their site and the box claim 'comes with everything you need to set-up!' And while this is TECHNICALLY true, the one thing that kind of annoyed me is that though you can most certainly mount your base station unit, it does NOT come with any of the material to do so. This is especially odd considering everything else in the box comes with a mounting kit that has both screws and adhesive to place it up (the keypad, sensors, motion detector). Other than that very minor annoyance, I've had a perfect experience with the system. Would easily get my recommendation to anybody looking for an alarm system.

    Ring Alarm System

I had to write this review... It's pretty laughable reading the negative reviews about this alarm by ring! Yes this is there 1st alarm and yes there are things that can be improved by feedback from us the customers but to say this product SUCKS because of user errors is not really far to the company. Let me start with the CONS 1st. 1. I wish it was a way to adjust the speaker volume on the keypads. 2. I would've liked the contact sensors to be a lil smaller. 3.I also would welcome settings that would allow you to rename sensor to where they say what's happening at the location, like instead of a chime it would say Front Door, Garage Door, Sliding Door etc... 4. Also the only way to get notifications like what's happening at home is when the alarm is set in HOME or AWAY mode! It would be helpful to see notifications pushed to your device regardless of the alarm being set to HOME, AWAY, or Disarmed. Now for the PROS. 1-I will guarantee that you will NOT find another alarm company that will offer you monitoring & unlimited cameras added to your system for 10 DOLLARS a month! I’m absolutely certain you won’t! 2- Excellent Customer Service! I had an issue with my sensor not connecting and it was completely my fault! I call their customer service @ 12:30 on a Saturday night and was able to get assistance with repairing my sensor! 3- 24/7 Customer Service! Enough said! 4- By subscribing to their 10 dollar premium plan you get an extended warranty on your product. 5- The app and instructions are very intuitive and easy to follow. Also there’s a neighborhood community tap that allows you and your fellow ring doorbell & alarm buddies post different events that’s happening in you neighborhood. One more just by referring a friend to download the app and setting up a free ring account you and that person get 10 Buck!!! 6- Who doesn’t love free money! So that’s my review so far of the ring alarm system, is it perfect No, is it the best system on the market No, but for the overall value, the Exceptional Customer Service, & the Industry leading value you get for 10 dollars a month, this system will thrive in the DYI market!

I bought my Ring system about a week ago. My kit included the base station, 2 keypads, 2 motion detectors, 3 contact sensors and a range extender. I also bout the Ring Video door bell 2 to add on. I must say I am very impressed so far. It only took me about 30 minutes to get the whole system set up and running. I am not super technical but this is very simple to setup. I read some reviews that it can take a couple of hours, I was pleasantly surprised! Next came using the system. Ring did something that I think is genius. They built in a 7 day practice/training mode that the system goes in to after the initial setup. My wife and I were worried that if we or our kids (8 and 12 yrs old and very curious) hit a wrong button or something, the cops would show up. The practice mode let us learn the new system without worrying about that. One of my buddies has an old system (I won’t mention names, but from one of those big national providers everyone has heard of) and he was actually fined when the cops showed up to a false alarm, so this was a big deal for us. We are now 100% live with the system and it is out of practice mode. On the 1st day after we went live, my brother popped over to the house while my wife and I were at work. He did not know that we had the new system and used his key to come in the house. Well, the alarm went off and I was in a meeting and unable to use my phone app to cancel. I immediately received a call from a person that monitors the alarm and I was impressed all over again. First on how quickly I received a call, then by the fact that the girl I spoke with was extremely professional and polite. I think she did a good job. My family and I couldn’t be happier. We had an alarm system before this and got rid of the service because of how we first were nickel and dimed on the install and then got crappy service after. The experience with Ring so far has been the complete opposite so far. Needless to say we feel very secure and I plan to buy more components to the system. Probably going with the floodlight Cam next.

Got the Ring Alarm system on launch date. Let me start by saying that the installation was very easy. All sensors, motions detectors, range extender, keypads and base station synced without a hiccup. The door/window sensors are a bit larger than your usual sensors but they do the job and aesthetically looks good so it makes up for the size. The 2 motion detectors work flawlessly. All my sensors are installed on the walls using the included 2-sided adhesive tape. So far I haven’t encountered any adhesive issues with all my equipments. The keypads are nicely lit up although I would like them to update the lights to light up both the “Away” and “Home” buttons during operation. I work at nights and when I was trying to disable the alarm I couldn’t figure out which button is which. Not a big negative but definitely needs improvement on the next software update. Also would’ve been nice if the key pad had a LED screen on it so we can tell if we’ve inputed enough digits for the pin# or still missing some. My kit came with a free Ring yard sign and that was a big bonus. It gives you this extra feeling of security knowing that the sign is lit up and stands out at night. It’s definitely a good addition to my Ring Doorbell Pro, Ring Spotlight Cam and Ring Floodlight. So far so good with the system, especially for a 24/7 monitoring security system for $100/year. You really can’t beat that!

It's a nice starter kit, especially at the moment when it's on sale right now. After purchasing the product, it syncs well with your RING account and RING cameras (assuming you are in the RING ecosystem). The pricing for professionally monitored homes is affordable at $10 per month. To be clear, if you already have the $10 ring monthly plan with unlimited cameras etc, there is no extra cost when using this ring alarm system for your home, which is really nice. The installation on the app couldn't be more simple. The ring app will guide you step by step. Just follow directions and you're good to go. The included accessories such as the keypad, contact sensors and motion sensor works really well. Ring supplies the box with everything you need for installation. I've also tested the alarm sound and it's loud. Just make sure you don't enclose the hub in a closet or cabinet to avoid muffling the sound. Overall, it's a nice product that does the job: alert you and protect your property at an affordable monthly or annual cost. And before I forget, this is a NON-CONTRACT subscription product. In other words, unlike other security services where they lock you in contracts every 2-3 years, you can cancel this product subscription anytime with no termination fee if you are not satisfied.

For many years I was a customer of the company that a real innovator in the field of DIY security. I'll call them brand "S". When the original "S" unit kicked the bucket after years of service, I had the choice of sticking with them by updating my station or going with the new offering from Ring. I took a while to decide, but what eventually sold me on Ring was quality of their phone App and the fact that I did not have to pay additional money per month to use the app (unlike brand "S"). I thought it was very antiquated for brand "S" to charge extra for their app. Come on, folks, this is 2019. I've been using the Ring alarm system for a couple months now, and I am impressed with how more modern it feels than what I had been using. And when I did have a problem with one of the components, I found their customer service to be helpful and articulate, not the usual 1-800 nightmare. You cannot beat the monitoring price. Granted, it may not last, as this is probably a teaser for them to break into a very tight market with a number of behemoths in play, but for now I will enjoy the cheap rates as an early adopter. Honestly, if you're still paying for an old-fashioned alarm contract, you are getting ripped off. Ring and brand "S" are the future of home alarm companies. They are to the old security firms what video streaming is to cable TV.

Ok let me start with cons which is only one right now. That would be the size of the contact sensors. Understand that this system just launched and so far I am happy with the results. Lot of people complaining about WiFi outages. Yes if you lose WiFi u lose connection is why they offer a 100.00 a year professional monitoring that adds the option of cellular backup. I get all notification on my device when no WiFi, backup power, etc.. I also have it on a battery backup along with my router to extend power. Great system which I believe over time will improve greatly. I was paying 38.00 a month. Paid 100 and done for a year. Saving overtime....Priceless! Let me add that the panels have sensors so they light up when you walk up to them. I am also able to name each sensor so I know exactly which window or door was opened or closed. Also it keeps a history with time and day all in app

I am shocked that people complain and complain. This system is a security alarm and does what it was meant to do. This system is self managed which means you can add additional items and control to your liking as far as it’s limits. Works best within Ring ecosystem. Doorbell, security lights and alarm. Also at 100 a year I am not complaining. Paid up front and no more 40.00 month bills and limited control. Also alarm companies want to charge more if you add addition items. Ring is on their way to the top and with Amazon support it will only get better. Only if they supply a discount for prime members that would put them in the right position to advance this already great system. Thanks ring for allowing me a tax refund by saving me money that I didn’t see on my payroll check.

I have been researching and tried multiple DIY security systems. Would say this is the best one as of now because of the price point, only $10 per month for 24 hour monitoring, which is the lowest in the current market and plus point is it only took 45 mins to setup whole thing. i had 3 touch sensors, 2 motion sensors, 2 keypads and base station with extender. My house is a 1800 sq ft, but still all the sensors are working with the range extender, but still plugged it in to have more frequency. I d heard that there is a fee for false alarm and if the police is dispatched. Am not sure yet how much would be the fee. i have no negative points as of now, i still have wait and see what happens if there is an false alarm and no one response the emergency contact numbers. All the system is kind of pre activated to the base station. You just have to link base station, then it will start auto detecting the sensors.

I installed my system with 6 sensors and a motion detector in less than an hour and I used screws to mount all door contacts and tape on windows. It is a simple install and the app guides you all the way. Works as advertised and I couldn't be happier. This is a quality system and worth more than they charge for it. The $100 a year monitoring cost (which includes your cameras and door bell recordings) is a bargain. Pairing them was seamless. Have had numerous alarms in many homes and this ones beats them all. Just an FYI for those that use the two sided adhesive tape. Clean the area you are mounting them on with alcohol first and it will help eliminate them coming off. Learned that the hard way on an ADT system I had "professionally" installed. Great idea on delaying the monitoring until you get use to using the system. False alarms that are reported and responded to cost $100 each time in our area.

I was a bit skeptical about getting this system but it was on sale and I am a bestbuy member and received additional savings. I am GLAD I did. So out of the box the system is somewhat simple, nothing fancy. The keypad does not light up unless you walk up to it or touch the keys, so you do not know what status your system is in. They should change that. The set up is quite simple. Scan the QR code to the device you are installing, it then prompts and allows you to test the connectivity, then you are good to go, What I like is you can control your system with your phone locally and remotely, free of charge. Other companies charge for that capability.. Now Ring also has a charge for 24 monitoring but for $10, that's not bad. Speaking of monitoring I tripped the alarm accidentally and they call me RIGHT away. Overall I like this system.. I have it paired with the doorbell and hope to integrate cameras.

I just set up the Ring Alarm yesterday and so far I am very happy. I already have a Ring doorbell, so getting the alarm from ring was a no-brainier. The $10 a month monitoring charge that includes camera storage is what really sold me. I was already paying $3 a month for the front door... I looked at some of the competitors, but even the cheaper plan from Simply Safe was more expensive and did not let you use the app. I chose the $300 kit over the $200 because it provides a better value if you were to buy the extra components a la carte. Installation has been very easy. The keypads can operate with or without being plugged in. The only negative thing I can say so far, is that the contact sensors are a little bigger than I would prefer.

I compared a couple different security systems and I'm very glad I got the ring. My needs were pretty simple- I wanted to know if any of my doors were opened and if there was motion in my hallway/family room. This system does that splendidly. Setup was extremely easy (way easier than the doorbell) and I love that I can arm/disarm through my phone OR Alexa! I also have 2 small dogs and I was initially worried they might set off the motion detector when the system was armed for away mode, but so far (a month with the system) I haven't had any problems with this. Add in the fact it's $10/month for professional monitoring (or free if you already have the $10/month subscription from other ring devices), there's a water sensor you can buy that I put in my water heater tray and it's backed by Amazon so you know it will continue to get updates and I'm sold!

After moving to a house, my wife and I looked in to various alarm system options. With paid services extremely expensive, we decided to purchase the Ring Alarm system after owning their Video Doorbell Pro. The Alarm was worked great and very easy to use! The Best Buy kit includes an extra keypad and sensors which work well for our 4 bedroom house. The alarm is easy to alarm and I like the Home mode to arm it when we're sleeping. The contact sensors all work well when windows or doors are open. Ring also continues to update the system, with tighter integration with its cameras like the ability to start recording videos when the alarm is tripped, The Ring Protect Plan at $100 a year is so much cheaper then any competing paid services as well.

After a long wait for the release of the Ring Alarm I snagged one up on the first day it became available and my experience has been absolutely flawless. I love the ability to configure and customize the system to fit my needs. if you already own any of the Ring cameras or plan to in the future, the Ring Alarm makes perfect sense as all of your security devices can be combined within a single app. Price-wise there's no comparison to other systems for the hardware or the professional monitoring. $10 a month for professional or $0 if you choose to self monitor. Since I am already paying $10 per month for my other three Ring Video camera cloud storage, the professional monitoring is essentially free. Keep up the good work Ring and i'll keep coming back for more!

I had purchased a SimpliSafe alarm system originally, but when I set it up I was disappointed in the fact that they had no smoke or carbon monoxide detectors available and the fact that in order to use the phone app you needed their $24.99 a month plan. This was a dealbreaker. I returned it and saw that Ring had an alarm system on sale at Best Buy plus offering a free echo dot with purchase. After setting up the alarm which was simple, I was really impressed with how well it works and it integrates perfectly with the echo dot. Also it works with their phone app without having to purchase any plan. Their full service plan is only $10 a month for police and fire alerts. Great system and great value.

Bought this for my sisters new home. I have my own which I got when it first came out. Like everything that’s newly released there were some hiccups with the system but nothing major. Since the release they’ve pushed through updates and all but for the monthly price of this alarm that also includes all your ring cameras recordings it’s a no brainer. Beats ADT and even Vivint which some of my family members have. It now works with Alexa as well ring is doing big things and I believe will be getting better so I keep investing and increasing my security cameras at home little by little. A+ in my book. It’s simple and ring support has always been outstanding. Whether chat via the app or calling in.

The system has everything we needed for our home. The setup was very easy following the directions in the app. I love the fact that you don’t HAVE to run power to the keypads. I turned the power save mode off which allows them to light up if they detect motion, otherwise the lights turn off. Integration with the Ring Doorbell 2 is a nice touch, and it all works seamlessly. The only thing I wish is that the base station for the alarm would chime when the doorbell was pushed. Not a knock on Ring, just something I was hoping it would do. I have ordered their Chime Pro to gain that functionality. All in all a great system at a fraction of the cost of other systems, and no contract.

We reviewed a number of home security systems before purchasing. Although, a fairly new system, compared to others out there, we feel we made the best choice for us. We started with an in home consultation and, after deciding on the Ring system, also scheduled Best Buy do our installation. Btw- This system is very user friendly if you chose to install yourself. We did sign up for a yearly monitoring program (after 30 days free trial) but there are other options available. We’ve had the system about 6 weeks and are extremely pleased. We love the versatility of the system and the fact that we can add on if desired. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending Ring Home Security for your home!
