You can turn it on or off when you want to. It also has a built-in sensor that lets you know if someone is there. I really recommend it. I love it Soo much that I will defetnetly get a second one for my back cover patio.

You can turn it on or off by using the same ring app or you can synchronize it with the ring so it iluminates every time someone is in front of the ring to capture a clear picture.
