Great addition to our security system!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always been a fan of the Ring ecosystem. I have various different cameras around my property and I have always found that they work very well. Our floodlight camera was getting old and I figured it was time for an upgrade. Out of the box you can tell this is a well-built product. It feels sturdy and that it will be able to withstand the elements very well. I live in southern Wisconsin so we get a wide gamut of very hot and very cold weather. I have never once had a ring product fail because of the weather. So, I have no doubt this will last as well! Getting it set up is very easy. This is the hard wired version, so if you aren’t comfortable with tampering with electrical devices, definitely hire an electrician or local handyman to get it installed. I installed it myself, and the installation was a breeze. If you have ever installed a floodlight before, you will have no problem with this. Once you get it installed, then you just go into the ring app and select to add a new device and then go through the guided setup process. Once it is installed you will first notice how amazing the video looks. This is the first floodlight camera I have tried that actually has 4K video. Note that if you have a slower internet connection, the streaming video might not look as good, but if you download a recorded video, it will be in the amazing 4K quality. These are a lot like other Ring cameras where you can change the sensitivity, set up detection zones, change what you want it to detect like people, vehicles, animals, or everything. There are tons of customization options to get the cameras working exactly how you want them. We live in a duplex, so I always set up a zone so I only know if someone is coming in our driveway and to send me an alert, but I have it set up so it doesn’t cover my neighbor’s driveway so I don’t get a lot of false alerts for people visiting our neighbors. I found that it worked perfectly. I was getting notifications on my phone very quickly whenever a event happened as well. There is little to no lag from when the event happens and when you get a notification on your phone. This camera also features the live view with 2-way communication. So, lets say someone pulls up in your driveway that you don’t know and you don’t want them there, you can talk to them through the camera and you will be able to hear anything they say as well. This is great for not having to leave your house and still being able to deal with a potential situation before it happens. There is also a siren you can activate as well if you really want to get rid of someone. I found all of the features to work well and I was clearly able to hear people in the driveway, and they were very easily able to hear me as well. As far as the floodlights go, they are very bright and easily light up our 4-car driveway completely. There are settings to change the brightness as well. Overall, I am extremely happy with this upgrade to my Ring security system. If you already have Ring cameras, this is a no-brainer to buy! If you are looking to add some security to your home, you can’t go wrong with Ring products. They are solid and reliable and the company has great technical support if you ever need it.

Better Floodlight, MUCH Better Video, Good Upgrade
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll start by saying I am upgrading from the Ring Floodlight Cam+, so my review is based on a comparison between my old Ring Floodlight Cam and this 2nd Gen 4K Floodlight Cam Pro. Design wise, this looks about the same as previous models but if you look closer, you'll see the floodlight have doubled in size and the camera has a different design. Installation is easy (from an upgrade) but even originally it's straight forward and the ring app will walk you through the process. Just make sure you turn off your power at the breaker first, or if you're unsure - get handyman or electrician to help. You will need to get a 4" round electrical box if you're not upgrading from an existing floodlight (costs about $10) and you'll need some caulk, but otherwise everything else is included. It takes under an hour to physically install, app setup is about 3-5 minutes and is easy. In use, I've found the Floodlight Cam Pro really great. Given it's winter right now and so dark, I have been really able to put everything to test. Video quality is significanlty better and the 4K really makes a difference when you zoom in, Ring have also made improvements to the low light sensor and I have picked up more late night animal crossings e.g. rabbits, deer, foxes, making their way through our yard. I think they have also improved the microphone and speaker, as it seems the audio "you are being recorded" messages are clearer but truly the best upgrade is the floodlights, I can cover my whole yard now and the wider lamps mean I can angle the coverage better. Overall, brilliant upgrade and worth buying (and definitely worth buying over the older 1080 Ring Floodlight Cam).

Improved image and 3D motion detection
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the Ring - Floodlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen) Retinal 4K Camera to install over the garage. I had a previous flood light hard wired there, so it was actually pretty easy to perform the install without needing an electrician, but make sure you take all safety precautions, shut off power to the circuit or hire a professional if need be. Everything is included - Camera, Hardware Kit, Installation Hardware, Set Up Guide, Security Sticker. Once the unit is wired and power turned back on, you start with downloading and installing the Ring App on your phone that requires you to create an account, and follow the step by step instructions in the App to add the new camera to your Wi-Fi network. Obviously if you already have other Ring devices like a doorbell camera, all you have to do is add the new floodlight cam pro. Image quality is superior to the previous 1080p generations I had, both during the day and during the night, especially once the floodlights kick in which gives you crisp color images and video. Those floodlights are super bright at 2,000 lumens - do not look directly at them - you could damage your vision. The camera has the usual 2-way audio built-in but I don’t think I’ll be using this feature much as I rarely have anyone come up to the garage door to enter the house. Motion detection has also been improved, now with Radar Powered 3D detection. Additionally one of my favorite features is now the 10x Enhanced Zoom that truly shows some great details when zooming in to license plates or people’s faces. Motion detection zones are totally customizable and so are the notifications and linking with other Ring cameras to trigger synchronized recording. Unfortunately Ring cameras do not have a memory card slot for local video recording, so if you want to capture any events either manually or triggered by motion you’ll have to pay for the cloud storage/recordings. There are only a few lower budget cameras that still offer a micro-SD slot for local recording and only require a paid subscription for more advanced “AI” features. Overall, this is a greatly improved camera with tons of useful features that work very well within the Ring App ecosystem.

Excellent Flood Light Camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With all the flood light, or pseudo flood light cameras out there, it seems rare anymore to find one that truly has the flood lights we expect for the side of the house plus a decent camera. Most have lights that wont reach the ground for any decent amount of height or the cameras aren't great quality. That's where the Ring floodlight cam pro comes in, and addresses both concerns. Packaging: Straightforward, packed with the floodlight cam, hardware, literature and mounting materials needed to get it up and rolling. The device is solid and should withstand weather for years. The two articulating lights and camera are well made, and being that it is Ring you know it's a name that many have begun to associate as a defacto standard in home camera security Installation: Fortunately I was just swapping an existing camera, the home mount worked fine, I was able to rotate the cameras and lights for an upside down top mount instead of a side mount as pictured, wiring worked as expected for any normal flood light installation Use: They function with the Ring app which is great since I already have a ring doorbell camera. There is logic and intelligence applied to this camera as with the ring doorbell camera as well, motion sensing, light enabling and disabling, among other settings. The camera quality is excellent being that it is 4K so it really is a dramatic upgrade compared to most cameras in this segment Overall: I strongly recommend this camera to someone that needs a true flood light with an excellent camera for their home.

Excellent Spotlight, Even Better Camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent spotlight, even better camera. Several years ago, my first video doorbell cam was a first-gen Ring cam's. I remember that it was a great cam, with a really clean, and efficient app. Over the years, the family gradually moved our in-home integration intomthe Nest eco-system. This was in no way an indictment against Ring, but having the one eco-system for all smart-home is nice. Having said that, when the opportunity came up to get this, I jumped on it. I am not dissapointed. Out of the box, the flood-cam has the expected high-quality that Ring has delivered from the get-go. I downloaded the app, and again, I was not dissapointed. It had a simple, but rich offering. Just as I remembered. Don't get me wrong, it was not the exaxct same, but an updated version. Clean, accessable, and intuitive. For my installation, I had an existing old-school eve mounted floodlight, so I already had the existing junction box, and wiring, so a ladder and a screwdrive was about all that was needed. While I am not the mandiest guy in the world, installation was simple. If you don't have the confidence to work with ellectricity, trade a friend, or local handyman a $20 bill and a 12 pack of beer. It should take no more than 25 minutes for most experienced handy-folk. Once installed, set-up in the app was a breeze. I have this placed in my backyard, and it is working great. I won't get into the techie stuff becasue that is easily accessable from both the Best Buy and Ring websites. But suffice it to say, this is a great choice, and I would reccomend toa friend.

Great Camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Ring camera needs to be hard wired so it does take some electrical skill to set up. We replaced our regular outside front garage light with this Ring camera . Once it is connected, you just need to download the Ring app. and connect the camera to your Wifi. There is a yearly subscription fee, but I think it has is reasonably priced . Within the Ring app, there are multiple settings. I prefer the wired version since I leave this house for 6 months and the battery might not last. The app allows you to have zones for monitoring, motion, sensitivity, and schedules. Within the app, you can also control turning on the light or set it to automatically turn on with activity. The camera can give you an audio alert on your phone or iPad. The resolution of the monitored activity and the Live View is very clear. It is easy to scroll through the activity that has been captured. Since the camera is not running continuously, it sometimes does miss some activity. Amazon dropped off a package but the person wasn’t captured or if I back out of the garage, sometimes my car doesn’t show up. I deal with this by having multiple cameras and some on inside and simply placed in a window. This camera has excellent night vision and many times notices animals walking up our driveway. Since I have previous experience with the Floodlight Wired camera, it tolerates the cold Winters of northern Wisconsin and also the extreme heat of Arizona. These outdoor cameras provide great security for monitoring the outside of your house. I highly recommend this camera.

Top of its class
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first Ring camera, but not my first outdoor camera. However, this is the best outdoor camera I've had. It just works flawlessly out of the box, and has way more options and features than most other cameras I've used. It's notifications are also much more reliable and it never misses motion. It has options for excluding areas for motion detection, and combines it with its radar motion detection to be able to exclude motion based on distance, which is super clever. The lights are plenty bright, though my backyard and where the light is mounted is a bit awkward and I couldn't quite get the lights pointed where I wanted, but it ultimately has ended up still providing good lighting coverage. The color temperature of the lights isn't the super cold blueish that many LEDs have, and is a more warmer natural color, which I prefer. It has a speaker and mic so if you need to speak with someone outside, you can communicate through your phone. Some outdoor doorbells and cameras I've used have terrible outdoor speakers. This one is actually pretty good, and voices are clear, so you can actually hold a brief conversation without everyone going "huh, what?" all the time. The only downside is to get all these features, is you do need the Ring subscription. I've avoided subscription cameras in the past, but Ring does have these cameras figured out, and I might be convinced you get what you pay for.

Feature rich camera system-Sidewalk is a poison.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.OVERALL Ring, a brand that's recognized by most, whether you like or dislike it. Out of the box, this has a quality metallic build with some decent weight to it. The light fixtures seem of a durable quality and the coat of paint gives it a finish that'll keep it looking good for years to come. If you've got an existing floodlight, adding this will be a simple process. If you don't, and you're not technically skilled with the logistics of wiring it in, get an electrician. Ring makes it fairly simple with all necessary hardware to get this thing installed. The Ring app provides a guided setup to get it paired afterwards. This made getting it connected to my network a simple process. By default, the initial setup activates Sidewalk, I had to turn off this double edged sword. SETUP & PERFORMANCE Once installed and accessible from my phone, I had the chance to witness the 4K retinal lens quality, and I've got to say, I'm impressed. Daytime viewing is sharp with great color accuracy. Nighttime viewing is alright. With the floodlight being mounted in my backyard and under a patio, nighttime doesn't get great moonlight so the area immediately in its vicinity is very dark. However, the remaining yard space that sees light reflecting off the moon is impressive. Zooming in on objects is ok. Max zoom gets somewhat pixelated. Panning around while zoomed has an annoying effect that generates the area surrounding the zoomed object as you move around. Oftentimes, you get a blank black section of the cameras peripheral vision that generates after a short delay. There really should be a landscape supported mode with this camera. It's range of view is wide, but the resulting video feed is always small. But maybe this is more of a Ring app issue. The floodlight is bright and supplements the cameras vision well. At maximum brightness, the light reaches about 15' with adequate clarity. Motion detection is an interesting one. Radar-based 3D motion detection is an upgrade from traditional pixel based motion detection. Zones can be defined for video detection and light activation areas. Birds eye view, while I feel my setup makes this feature less reliable, it still proved to be quite effective. It combines the visual image of the camera with mapping data you configure so it only detects within your specified areas. This gives your camera spatial context from where to look for movement, reducing false alerts. Two-way communication is clear with virtually no lag, making real time communication with visitors viable. Presets make quick replies simple ranging from greetings to simple instructions. They can be combined with motion detection to let detected persons know they are being watched as a deterrent. PROS & CONS * Great video quality and motion detection. * Annoying blank video when panning while zoomed in * Subscription first camera system that carries limited functionality without. * Cloud recording only. * Sidewalk is on by default, this should be an opt-in function with the level of privacy concerns it brings up. * Hardware quality is as good as it gets CONCLUSION If you're already invested in Ring products, this is a must have as it adds a plethora of functions integrating various Ring products under the Ring app to function in unison. It offers intelligent motion detection, great video quality, sports grade A hardware, and powerful lighting creating a more effective and user-friendly home security solution. The black video is slightly annoying but since it's a very short delay, manageable. As a subscription first product, with no real alternative options, the moment you stop that sub, the camera turns into a slightly better paperweight. Whether it's financial woes, security breach pushes you away, or supporting a boycott. However, my biggest deterrent is Sidewalk, it's privacy concerning functions and integrations/partnerships that opt-in by default. This is worth 4-stars.

Almost the gold standard for home security cameras
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ring has almost perfected the home security camera with the Ring Floodlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen) Retinal 4K! The latest update adds the Ring-exclusive Retinal 4K -- arguably the best clarity, to your day and night-time videos. Overall Verdict: This is a powerhouse floodlight camera with best-in-class performance, but its true value is heavily dependent on committing to the highest-tier subscription plan. +++ Pros: What You'll Love! +++ 1) Retinal 4K Video Resolution with Auto HDR + At this point, 4K/UHD and HDR should be standard features that all security cameras ship with. 2) Floodlight brightness: + Easily casts over 30 feet of light—great for large coverage areas. The light also makes the color videos much better than the black and white, which is rare. 3) Excellent app + Quick and easy setup within the Ring app (about 7 onboarding screens). + The app is intuitive with Quick Controls (e.g., easily toggle flood lights off/on or activate the siren). Common functions like video history, sharing, Smart Video Search, Calendar view, and Quick Replies are easily accessible. 4) Seamless Echo Show integration + Easy to set up with Echo Shows. This convenience allows for easy viewing of video events without having to reach for a phone. --- Cons: What Could Be Better --- 1) Costly subscription model. - A subscription is required to really get the most out of Ring cameras. Most people likely already have a Ring doorbell, which pushes you into a more expensive mid (Ring Home Standard, currently $9.99/month or $99.99 annually) - or high-tier (Ring Home Premium, currently $19.99/month or $199.99 annually) subscription, since the Basic tier is only for single cameras. - Forced Bundling = Value Mismatch: Core camera functionalities, like 24/7 Recording and advanced Smart Search, are bundled only in the Ring Home Premium subscription tier, which includes Professional Monitoring. This forces users to pay for an emergency response service they might not want just to unlock the camera's full potential. 2) Technical hardwired installation - We live in a day in age where most things we purchase are standard wall outlets or USB. This is NOT the case. This is not a standard wall outlet plug-and-play setup. If you're not comfortable with electrical wiring, you may need to hire someone, as it is intended to be installed where a hardwired floodlight currently is. A plug-in kit is needed for a wall-plug output, but still requires some electrical knowledge. 3) Wind noise really interferes with audio recording - They need a noise cancellation feature for this (maybe this can be a software-based future update). 4) Digital zoom only - at this point, there should be SOME kind of optical zoom (like the first 3x or 5x). Without it, the 4K quality is quickly degraded when zooming. This also contributes to a slight washing out of detail in video when viewing in color at night. #PRO TIP: The settings are VERY extensive. I found it quite humorous that it takes longer to navigate all the different menus and options than it does to physically install and on-board the camera. You'll want to set aside around 45-60 minutes to be able to fully go thru everything as this is how you configure the cameras behaviors (what to record, what to ignore, how long to keep the floodlights on, when and how long to record, how to record - e.g. video only or audio to comply with local laws, etc.) *** Wish List: Future Features *** 1) Noise cancellation for wind. 2) Animal detection * This seems like an odd omission since most cameras on the market can detect people, vehicles, animals and packages. 3) Pan/tilt with auto-tracking * May require some design tweaks but would keep Ring as the standard in home security cameras. ??? Who might this be for ??? This camera is the perfect choice for users who are already invested in the Ring ecosystem, are comfortable with electrical wiring (or willing to hire someone that is), and are willing to pay for the highest subscription tier to get all the best features.

It seems like there was some confusion about how the subscription plans work. SOS Emergency Response is included with Ring Home Plan Premium, but this is different from Professional Monitoring. SOS is only activated when you press the SOS button in the Ring app, while Professional Monitoring for Ring Alarm is an optional paid add-on and not bundled with Ring Home Plan Premium.
