Works like went of our prior generation Ring cameras except the resolution is significantly better. It's quite expensive and is larger, but otherwise integrates well into the Ring system. The detail 4K provides is really nice compared to older cameras.

      Hi Ronald.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand how important it is for your Ring Outdoor Cam Pro to record clear and concise videos so that you can effectively monitor your home. The features and technology provided by the Ring Outdoor Cam Pro are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We want to ensure your device is working as intended by providing you with solutions to resolve the video quality concern you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. To fix flickering video on your Ring device, try these troubleshooting steps:

      1. Check lighting conditions: Your Ring device automatically shifts to night vision based on available light. If your device is in a dark or shaded area, night vision may activate during daylight hours.
      2. Adjust night vision settings: You can turn Color Night Vision on or off by going to Device Settings > Video Settings.
      3. Avoid reflections: If your camera faces a window or is too close to a wall, you may get distorted images at night. Try adjusting the camera angle or use a Ring Wedge Kit to angle your doorbell away from reflective surfaces.
      4. Avoid sun glare: Washed-out videos might be due to overexposure to sunlight. Adjust the camera angle to reduce direct sunlight.
      5. Enable HDR: For greater detail in brightly lit areas, you can use the high dynamic range (HDR) toggle in your Ring app

For more information on your Ring Outdoor Cam Pro, we invite you to reach out to our community. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their personal feedback and experiences with Ring. We look forward to hearing from you if we can be of any further assistance!

      Thank you,
      Miyuki from Ring. Ring

Great Imaging and Features...but at a High Cost

Is this the security camera that finally lets you zoom in and read that tiny moles on someone’s face from your porch? Is it worth the hefty price tag and the inevitable subscription fee? The flashiest feature here is the Retinal 4K video quality. This is Ring’s first attempt at the ultra-high-definition game and it’s a noticeable jump from their older 1080p and even the 2K models my folks have. During the day, footage is detailed, and that’s obviously important for security. You can make out faces, distinguish clothing details, and generally see a much clearer picture of what’s happening outside your home. The increased resolution helps a great deal when you have a larger yard or a long driveway. Helps to have extra detail along with the 10x Enhanced Zoom. Please note that 10x zoom is digital, not optical, meaning the camera is just cropping in on the 4K image. But because the original image is high-res, the zoomed-in view is still far more usable and less grainy than what you'd get from zooming in on a standard 1080p or 2K camera. But what about when the sun goes down? Ring tries to solve some of the common night-time clarity issues with two night-time features: Low-Light Sight and Adaptive Night Vision. Low-Light Sight is pretty cool—it uses minimal ambient light, like a nearby streetlamp or porch light, to give you a full-color view. No more black and white. However, there is increased 'ghosting' or motion blur in this mode if the object is moving close to the camera, so keep that in mind. If it's pitch black, the camera flips over to Adaptive Night Vision, which is the “normal” high-contrast black-and-white image from other cameras. It is clear and can be used to view details that you normally couldn’t see yourself in the dark. The overall video performance, especially in those tricky low-light conditions, is genuinely impressive and easily one of the camera's strongest selling points. Beyond the visuals, the other tech packed into this "Pro" model is the 3D Motion Detection and Bird's Eye View, both of which rely on built-in radar. This is very different compared to traditional pixel-based motion detection. Instead of just sensing changes in light or color, the radar measures the distance of an object, which helps dramatically cut down on annoying false alerts from swaying trees or shadows. You can set specific distance thresholds—for example, tell the camera to only alert you when something crosses a line of X number of feet from the lens. Bird's Eye View is also interesting; it gives you an aerial map view of where the person or object traveled on your property before triggering the alert. It adds a whole new layer of understanding to your motion notifications. Plus, the Two-Way Audio is pretty loud and clear enough to actually hold a conversation with someone. So, if the tech is so good, what’s the catch? Well, you probably already know it: The Ring Subscription. The camera itself is an investment, but to unlock its full potential, you have to subscribe to a Ring Protect plan. Without one, you’ll get motion-triggered live view and real-time alerts, but you won't be able to review, save, or share any recorded video clips. You’re essentially buying a fancy live stream for your phone. To get the 180 days of video history, smart alerts (person, package, vehicle), and video previews, you need at least the Basic plan. If you want the ultra-premium features—like the continuous 24/7 recording in 4K, AI-powered smart video search, and SOS emergency response—you’re looking at the more expensive Premium plan. This paywall is the biggest point of contention for me and why I always end up going back to the competition. You're paying for all this money for hardware, but you don’t get the equal experience because its locked behind a recurring monthly fee. I wish they would offer local storage (like an SD card slot or even a way to connect it wirelessly to a base station) to view recordings without a fee, but that’s never going to happen. Also, since Ring relies on cloud storage it means the 24/7 4K recording (or even the event recordings) will eat into your internet bandwidth. You’ll want to think about that if you have a bandwidth cap with your Internet Service Provider. Installation-wise, this is a plug-in Wi-Fi model, meaning you’ll need a power outlet nearby, which might limit your placement options. You might need to run an extension cord or hire an electrician. It’s built for the outdoors, but the mounting hardware can feel low budget. Another thing to keep in mind is that if you use Google Assistant or Apple HomeKit, you should know that Ring is primarily built for the Amazon Alexa ecosystem. Integration with other smart home systems is limited. Integration examples are hands-free voice-activated live video feeds, two-way talk directly on the Echo Show screen, and motion alerts that instantly display the camera feed. I couldn’t find a way to do that with other branded displays. So to Buy or Not to Buy? The Ring Outdoor Cam Pro, Retinal 4K is, without a doubt, a premium security camera. Its Retinal 4K video, impressive low-light performance, and radar-enhanced 3D motion detection are high quality. You get clearer details, especially at night or at a distance, and radar alerts to minimize false alarms. However, you have to look past the hardware and consider the entire cost of ownership. Are you comfortable with the hefty initial price plus the mandatory monthly subscription to actually utilize the all features? Are you already invested in the Ring/Amazon ecosystem, or would you be willing to switch? These are all questions you have to ask yourself. This Ring has top-of-the-line in terms of visuals and features. If you’re fine with another pricey subscription and using an Echo Show, then you can’t get better than this but if you’re looking for no subscription fees and more compatibility with smart services then you should probably keep looking.

The Ring Outdoor Cam Pro is a welcomed addition to the world of Security Cameras. This camera is wired. The camera does not have an internal battery, the wire is cumbersome, and you must use the supplied power cable due to power requirements. This latest Ring Camera has the Signature Retinal 4K. The new Retinal 4K has Ultra clear video with better detail and crispness. Along with true color accuracy in low light conditions, there is also a 10x enhanced capability without a loss of detail. They even thought about the app display and optimized the video quality between the camera and the app. Next Ring updated its motion detection to tell the difference between types of movement and a 3d spatial awareness to understand what and where something is moving. This feature allows for zones where you can turn off motion detection. This new feature allows for precise alerts with fewer negative alerts. The built-in spotlight adjusts based on the current lighting conditions. This camera also works with “Alexa”. Remember to go to setting in the application and setup whether you want to participate in the lost pet and law enforcement using your feed and recording.

The Ring Outdoor Cam Pro is a great camera from Ring. It comes with a Retinal 4K for the ultimate wide-angle video, 10x Zoom, Low-Light features. The Outdoor Cam Pro comes well packaged with all of the hardware separated and easily labeled. I love Ring products because they are very easy to setup and everything is user friendly. This camera was no exception. It was easy to I package and I was able to get it setup in no time. I was able to add it to the Ring app that has all of my other Ring cameras. The camera comes with a lengthy power cable and will need to be plugged up in order to operate. It does not come with a battery slot like some of my other Ring cameras. Some cameras run on battery only, some can run on either battery or a power cable. This one is only plug in powered. The picture quality is very good, as well as the quality of it’s night vision. The speaker can be easily heard if you need to talk to someone outside your home. Overall, I’m very pleased with this camera, just like I’m pleased with all of my Ring cameras.
