The Ring Retro so far works as intended it does need to be hooked up correctly to zones but so far so good!

i purchased the Ring Alarm Security Kit 5-piece (2nd-gen) and the Ring Retrofit Alarm Kit as a bundle during Best Buy's on-line Black Friday sales event and had it delivered to my home since i would receive it earlier than if delivered to the store. i wanted to replace the large 30+ year old Radio Shack alarm box but keep the wired doors and windows zones since they still worked and according to what i read, the Retrofit Alarm kit is used to interface existing wired doors and windows zones with the Ring Alarm base. because this review is on the Ring Retrofit Alarm kit and not the bundle i separated the part of my review on the Ring Alarm Security Kit and did it on that item review the Ring Retrofit Alarm kit was easy to mount since it already had holes in the unit for two screws to be used to mount on the wall - i mounted it near to the alarm base station to set up the Ring Retrofit Alarm Kit, i followed the instructions provided by the Ring web site: -> https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360036012151-Ring-Retrofit-Alarm-Kit-Installation-Instructions -> if your current alarm panel and wired contacts for the doors and windows still work, then there should be no issues with moving the wires from the panel to the retrofit kit. any wired alarm siren or warning lights cannot be interfaced with the Ring Alarm base. -> follow the instructions about disarming and removing all power from the old alarm -> just remember to keep your wired zones together when you secure them to the retrofit kit terminal - the hole for each terminal is small so if you have multiple windows on the same zone, it would be best to get a terminal block connector so you can connect all the window zone wires to the block and just have one pair of outgoing wires to connect to the retrofit kit terminal -> example of zones and assignment to retrofit kit terminal -> zone 1: front door - terminal 1 and C -> zone 2: back door - terminal 2 and C -> zone 3: all windows - all wires from the windows are connected to a terminal block and only two wires from the terminal block connect to the Retrofit kit terminal 3 and C i downloaded the Ring app from the Apple App Store to my iPhone and iPad -> using the Ring App on my iPad: -> added Retrofit Alarm kit -> to set up the Retrofit Alarm kit and add your zones -> select the Retrofit Alarm, select Zone Settings and select each zone -> once each zone has been added, they are listed under the Sensors group -> you can rename the zone by selecting it and selecting the Device Settings -> if you want a notification when the zone is opened, select OPEN ALERTS -> if you want a notification when the zone is closed, select CLOSED ALERTS -> you will need to enable notifications for the Ring app on your device all in all, i like the Ring Alarm system, how easy it was to set up, how small the Ring Alarm base and Retrofit Alarm kit are when compared to the old Radio Shack alarm box which i removed from the wall after i transferred the wired doors and windows zones to the Retrofit Alarm kit. i like how you get a notification on your device and an audible chime from the alarm base when any zone is opened or closed - all of these are customizable through the Ring app. i would recommend the Ring Alarm Security kit and if you are looking to replace your old working alarm system with working wired zones, then i would recommend the Ring Alarm Retrofit kit (see my review on the Ring Alarm Security kit)

Once you have your zones identified, installation is a breeze. Backwards compatibility made simple. Quality feel with a clean look. I ended up buying a second to cover additional zones. You can add several retrofit kits to your ring pro.

I finally ditched the high priced monthly alarm monitoring for Ring’s very affordable monthly monitoring. I had several wired windows & doors that with this Retrofit Kit are now recognized by my Ring Alarm. No sense in installing a wireless contact when a wired contact was already available. The Retrofit Kit was easy to install, just attach each window or door one at a time & set up in the Ring Alarm App.

Great product, even better support. I got this to replace the sensors from my ADT system because I already had a lot of them physically embedded in my doors/windows. I was a little weary because they recommend a professional technician to do the wiring (I do have electrical wiring experience from my high school and college) but the installation was extremely simple if you read the instructions first. The Ring support for these devices is awesome, I had a question as my actual ADT implementation had unexpected resistors on the wiring, I called them up, they asked for pictures of the wiring and the schematic (that was attached to the ADT box) and in less than a day they gave me specific instructions on how to proceed. This allowed me to expand my current Ring system, their app is quite simple to use and I was able to stop paying those monthly alarm maintenance fees.

A bit expensive considering the logic how it works but I'm happy how easy it was to setup and used all my old contact sensors including windows since I was have issue with some of ring contact sensors not communicating to the station properly.

Easy to install if you know a little bit of basic basic wiring. Let me tie my 3 wired windows and 4 wired doors into my Ring alarm system. Took away one star because Best Buy price was 50% above MRSP.

This allowed me to connect my existing Brinks/ADT wired sensors to Ring. Was easy to do. No issues for installing.

My house has all sensors built-in, so had to get this to make use of it. Had to get the professional install since it recommended that. But I think if you like doing DIY and a little savvy with electrical stuff you can do it yourselves. The replacement was flawless, all existing sensors work well with the system.

Worked great with my ADT System. Was able to set-up my window zones, door zones, break window zones, and garage zone. In addition to already having the Ring System its a very robust system. Wiring can be intimidating but its very easy as long as you have your zones labeled and know they absolute work.

It was really easy to connect old wires from alarm box to this retrofit. I only wasn't able to connect a motion sensor to it but I think that is by design. I suggest you use the voltmeter to test each connection. App found it and connected easily. No issues so far.

Very happy with this purchase. Allowed me to use my existing wired door and window sensors with the ring alarm system. You’ll def want to be somewhat technical, but once you get the hand of easy to get setup (if existing wiring is labeled hopefully).

This product was very effective and easy to do. All the wiring experience you need to know is how to use a volt meter and strip wires. Excellent integration with existing contact sensors.

Easy and relatively inexpensive product to connect to an older hard wired alarm sensor system, but it is a little difficult to configure if you are not familiar with wiring and the use of a multimeter. You must verify the resistance on each old sensor to be sure it will work with ring. Had to make a few calls to customer support. All is working well now.

if you have a old alarm system and wish to upgrade to a wireless ring system this is a must have. Update was easy as the step by step instruction was very self explanatory.

The home came with an excellent wired security system but no app or phone control. In minutes, this gadget upgraded the wired security to a modern keypad and also a phone access system It’s like wining a lottery

I converted my old alarm system over to Ring using the retrofit system. Install was very simple and straight forward.

With this kit, we were able to use the existing house wiring for our alarm system.

Great product, allows the Ring Alarm to work with old pre-wired systems.

Easier to install than expected. The system is fully operational. Don’t be afraid of this DIY project.
