Idea was great. But the quality of product is questionable. I purchased four of these and one of them is broken completely. The product itself is not expensive, but the cost of ownership is quite high if you factor in the cost of batteries, which last about 4 to 6 months.

The ring step light is a great addition to the ring smart lights system. The light can be activated by as well as activate any other lights or cameras on the system. It has a good brightness level and points downward towards the ground. Very excellent build quality and battery life.

It does not come up with a battery. You have to purchase three batteries to make it work.

I needed it to work, but it just didn't!

I bought 2 of these to solve a problem of dark steps inside our home. I really wanted them to work, as I've found nothing else. So I tried for a couple of weeks, to no avail (and I'm a techie!). Unfortunately, I'm having to return them. Sure, the light could be brighter and yes, the batteries wore down to 50% after only 2 weeks, but my biggest problem with them is the motion detection. The website and product packaging claims it can detect motion up to 15 ft. I got the bridge, set up the app and devices and it worked for everything except motion detection. Whether I set the motion sensitivity to Lo, Med or High (or any of the 5 custom levels), it would not detect any motion until I got 2 feet away from the light. Changing the motion sensitivity did nothing. I tried everything - mounting it higher, lower, at 90 degrees, upside down, in a large area, resetting it, and finally calling their tech support. What a horrible experience with their tech support - they had to put me on hold while they "read" about the feature. I knew much more about their device, after messing with it for 2 weeks, than their tech support did! I thought it might just be a faulty device, but I got two of them (a week apart) and neither would detect any motion outside of 2 feet. That is useless, as the person is already in the area and it's dark, so it defeats the purpose. So disappointed in this Ring product, as I really have liked their Doorbell. Like others have said, they probably rushed the design and skipped QC steps. If you need this device to detect motion more than 2 feet away and turn on the light - you'll need to look elsewhere.
