Batteries in Ring devices are designed to go months between charges under normal conditions. However, real battery life is dependent on a number of factors in your home's environment, such as local weather, number of events captured, and frequency of activation. Rest assured, we are here to provide you with more information regarding our optional Ring Protect Plan options.
A Ring Protect Plan is not necessary to view real time notifications on your Ring cameras. Without the Ring Protect Plan you can still use the live view and two-way audio feature, you are still able to see who is at your door and answer motion notifications. In order to see past recorded videos from your ring device, you will need the optional Ring Protect Plan, which starts at $3/month per device or $30/year per device. Based on your review, it seems that you are having trouble with your Ring Spotlight Camera picking up the correct motion. If this is the case, you may want to adjust your motion settings. Motion Frequency is a control in the Ring app that allows you to customize motion alerts to your home environment. When the areas that you’re monitoring have excessive or repetitive motions, such as children playing in a yard, you may receive too many alerts, which can drain battery-operated devices too fast. Motion frequency controls were designed to help you get the notifications that you want and preserve battery life. Your safety is important to us, and we want to ensure you feel confident in the security your Ring Spotlight Cam Wire-free is intended to provide. One important factor when considering the device you wish to employ is the negative impact cold weather can have on lithium-ion batteries, which are used for your Spotlight Cam. The following are key temperatures to watch out for in regard to your batteries.

36 °F (3 °C): The battery may not hold a charge as effectively, resulting in you having to charge the unit more frequently.
32 °F (0 °C): The battery may not charge at all. Even hardwired configurations may not charge the battery.
-5 °F (-20.5 °C): The battery may stop working completely until temperatures warm up.

We know how important it is to have peace of mind when it comes to your security, and receiving notifications plays a significant role in having that sense of security. For our consumers, we want to ensure that you are notified of who may be near your door at all times. Rest assured, we are still here to help you resolve your night vision concerns and ensure you have a security device you can rely on.

Certain models of Ring devices have a night vision feature that allows you to see through the camera in low light conditions. By using infrared light, the camera can create a black and white image that is then beamed to the Live View in your app. By turning the color night vision feature on, the camera will use whatever ambient light is available to try and create a "false color" image in your Live View. This lets you get a better sense of what’s happening in the image by creating a false sense of color depth.
