Too much trouble to rewire so went with wireless spotlight cam. It works well.

I think it does the job but it's not worth that price. I get people walking by my house and this will, sometimes, pick up the image after they've walked by completely and other times it picks it up from the beginning. Inconsistent. I don't know why this doesn't have the advanced motion detection grid like the doorbell model.

Motion Frequency is a control in the Ring app that allows you to customize motion alerts to your home environment. When the areas that you’re monitoring have excessive or repetitive motions, such as children playing in a yard, you may receive too many alerts, which can drain battery-operated devices too fast. Motion frequency controls were designed to help you get the notifications that you want and preserve battery life. It has taken some getting use to the settings so we are not being notified every time a car goes down the street.

Having longevity in a battery-powered security device, such as the Ring Spotlight Cam Battery, is crucial when it comes to monitoring your home, especially if you are away for long periods of time. We can definitely assist you with this today, and we are confident we can find the correct settings for your home’s environment.
It sounds like you are having to recharge your device frequently. Your Spotlight Cam security camera may not need recharging with normal use. However, this depends on a number of factors in your home environment, such as the weather and the number of activities captured.
There may be things in your environment, such as the shadow of a moving tree branch or the sun glinting off a shiny object, that may trigger a motion event and send out notifications that you don't really want. You can use the motion sensitivity slider to reduce these kinds of motion alerts.
To Access Motion Settings:
Tap the three lines on the top left of your Ring app.
Tap your Spotlight Cam Wired.
Tap Motion Settings.
Adjust the motion sensitivity according to your preferences.

No option to turn off motion detection!

It does set off a lot of false motion alerts, which you can turn off. My biggest complaint is that you can’t turn off motion detection; so if you are having an outdoor party, it will record the whole thing. This runs down the battery and also is a huge inconvenience and invasion of privacy. I would like to see a software upgrade whereby I can turn off the camera at my discretion. The Ring Stick-Up Camera has this option, but the Spotlight Camera does not.
