I have always wanted to purchase the RING, cause of friends telling me how Great it works. The cost of the unit is a bit pricy. But when I saw it on sale, I jumped on it. To make a long story short, it was the biggest mistake ever to purchase this Item. Setting up the RING was fairly easy to do. But after a few days, it started giving me problems. I had problems with trying to get my LIVE VIEW on my cell phone activated. It would not come on. The App kept telling me, It was having problems connecting to the RING. It did this a lot. Also when it was working for that short time, it took awhile for the LIVE VIEW to finally come on. And at times when it did come on, the image was blurry. Image would be clear one time and very blurry another. Images on LIVE VIEW was not fluid or smooth, as I would hope it to be for a LIVE VIEW. Bottom line, the camera and App did not connect or function as well as I was hoping it would. I even talked to people from the RINGS help line to hopefully take care of the problems I was having with the unit. They did help me after a few tries, great people there to help you. But after I hung up with them the unit went back to the same problems as before. Maybe I had a bad unit. I was really wanting and looking forward to this unit working with no problems. But it didn't work for me.

When i watch ypu tube videos of their devices in action, I wonder how its possible, or did thier device just so happened to work at that moment. Most of the time, this is what happens to my ring, and i have a 300mb data line with great wifi coverage. When i try to view the live feed, most of the time it works, at time i get a message stating that it cant be reached, but most of the time it works. When I answer a motion alert, most of the time, as in 96% of the time, my feeds open to a black screen with the phone icons. 100% of the time when this happens, the motion alert doent get logged. When Ring does save a video its usually after a person is well within the range of the motion setup. I have a long walk way, and the vdeio usually start after the person is already waiting after a knock or ring. Maybe the wireless feature sucks, but my doorbell is in the dumbest spot. Its like butt height.

      Hi JustSomeGuy,

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear about this poor Ring experience, this is by no means the Ring experience that we intended for you to have. At this point, I would appreciate the chance to connect with you directly so that I can personally investigate the Live View and Motion Detection issues that you are encountering. It is of great importance to me that we get your Ring Video Doorbell 2 functioning at its best and I would like to ensure that I make this happen for you as soon as possible. With that being said, would you please email me directly at Kaitlyn.rosenthal@ring.com?

    Disappointing...Only records 30 seconds

While general setup was pretty straightforward, and the video quality is very good. I am very disappointed with the "feature" that only allows for 30 second recording of an event, unless the user manually chooses to record longer. I had a situation where a package was delivered, and the delivery man ended up coming back to move the package to a location less visible to public view. The RIng only captured the event of the delivery, not him moving the package. When checked the other feeds, the package was not there which naturally caused me to believe that the package was stolen, but there was no video evidence from Ring of this happening. Luckily I still have another security camera (inside the house, but pointed outside) which captured the full event. I purchased the Ring as a replacement for my original security cam, due to the original's poor night performance (due to reflection from window)

I think I wrote a review when I first got this and gave it a favorable review. But after using it for a while now, it is not as good as it first seemed. The video quality is very good, the phone app works well, simple to set up. But what I hate most , and I have not seen anyone else comment on this, is when the camera gets done recording an activity(30 sec), it takes several minutes for the camera to reboot before it can record another activity. So, if you have more than one visitor within a 4-5 minute window, you won't get a recording of the second or third person. This is critical if the purpose of the camera is to catch porch pirates. I have a great wifi signal to the doorbell (even though I just recieve a *good* rating on the devise health on the app), so I know it's not that. And I don't see anywhere where you can adjust the camera to cycle faster. If I were looking for a video doorbell to buy today, I would look elsewhere, and ask how fast the camera recycles.

Firstly - this seems like a solid product - and it works. I cannot however attest to any security issues - however it seems to function well. I also want to say that Jamie is responsive, as is their customer service. So all is good on that regard. My main issue is the lack of clarity and information on the packaging. No where on the box does it state that one needs to purchase a subscription at $3 a month to enjoy all the features. In the absence of a subscription one loses the ability to review historical videos. And it is a closed system. In my mind, this doorbell (assuming there are no secnurity issues) should allow for capture of videos and history on one's home network storage. There are other models that do not require a paid subscription. Net net is that if you are informed and inclined to pay for the subscrition service - this video doorbell does a very nice job. However if you do not wish to pay an annual fee for the remainder of time - then you might consider an alternative. Thanks for reading hope this was helpful.

The good: the live view looks great, even using battery power (when it connects). Being able run off battery is essential as I do not have an existing doorbell or power at my door. The bad: Takes ForFreakingEVER to connect to the network via doorbell or motion, which really defeats its main pirpose. Goes offline frequently. I have the sensors covering my entire porch, the walkway leading up to the door and beyond and am still fortunate if I get the back of someone's head as they leave. Less bad but still bad:vocal quality when speaking through the ap to the device is horrible and hard ti understand. I followed setup directions, have utilized the included wedges to angle the view "down", have it hooked in to network extender on a fast internet network. If I could easily pull it down and return it to BB I would. Not sure what I'll do. Would not recommend.

Well, have the standard Ring and I love it! Decided to upgrade another door to Ring 2....NOPE!!! The picture is fine, when it works. Delay on both is horrible! I can deal with the delay. The notification on the Ring 2 is faster than the Ring one for motion. By the time I open the app to look, I am at the door! I spoke to Ring and although they are trying to help, it does not appear it is working. I have a 200 Mbps speed on my internet with the Net Gear tower (mesh system), right inside the door, They tell me my speed is not registering properly for this particular Rig. Really?? The Ring 1 works great. You cannot make the face out of anyone getting out of a car, unless they are right on top of the camera. I am going to take it back. Not at all Happy. My friend has the Ring Pro and has worse problems. Stick with the Original Ring. Works good for what you need and you will be happier overall!

I’m torn on this product. It does what it’s advertised to do but you’re likely going to have to spend more money to get it to do it well. I have Fios 100Mbps service and my router is approx. 20 yards from the doorbell itself. The doorbell loses connection all the time and when it does have connection it’s poor. I think the only way to possibly resolve this issue is to purchase the booster @ $50-60.00. Having spent a fair chunk of change on the doorbell I don’t think I should have the issues especially once you factor in the distance to router AND the fact that it’s a New home. Love the concept and the design, hate the fact that I have to spend more money to make it work the way it should out of the box. If I find a good resolution I will post an update but as of now I’m disappointed.

Pretty easy to handle with install and the rest. Just remember to leave clearance for battery removal. However, then the surprises double down. First, mist have good upload speed, “surprise”. Outs in less than 2 so sounds and response is pretty awful! Then the cost to save the delayed or near worthless video is $30 for each unit installed!! Surprise 2. Now working with my internet company to see if they can do anything about upload. Sure the can for a $$$$$$!!! Was considering total home security from Ring but so far my learning is to run away and quickly!

Ideally this ring doorbell could be great but the signal SUCKS! And my WiFi is strong! Bought the ring chime WiFi extender and it did nothing! Bought a different extender which helps slightly but many times the motion doesn’t notify us or we can’t connect to live view! The picture shown in the store is NOWHERE near as clear as what you actually get. Might end up removing and taking back but what a hassle. Oh and ring company, your “fix” to this issue should not be that your consumer needs to spend MORE money and increase their WiFi speed. WRONG ANSWER!!

      Hi Smgg,

I am so sorry to hear about your less than excellent Ring experience. Ring Video Doorbell 2 is compatible with 802.11 b/g/n WiFi networks operating at 2.4 GHz frequencies. Do you happen to know how close your Ring device is to your router? For best streaming performance, we recommend that your Ring device is no further than 30 feet from your router, however, the closer it is the better the performance. Would you be so kind as to email me at Kaitlyn.rosenthal@ring.com?

Live view is slow when it works. I got at least 60mbps on my iPhone next to ring bell. Added ring chime with extender and that didn’t make it better. Put modem closer to ring and still get poor Wi-Fi signal. Keeps saying “activating device” and then it doesn’t work. Records only 30 seconds instead of stopping recordings after no movement. I think this is a recording app issue. The first 5 seconds of recordings freezes. Tech says it’s due to ring being installed on brick. So don’t buy a brick house. Main problem is the poor signal causing bad images and recordings. Easy to install.

The live view sucks and only works about half of the time(not when you need it). The battery life sucks. I bought a new router to make sure it wasn't me. I'm Super disappointed. I even made a custom corner mount out of wood with my two hands. In the end I think I would recommend just buying a security camera and skip the doorbell.

Followed instructions exactly, and my bell wont stop ringing. Looked this problem up, and a lot of people have this problem. Tried resetting and replacing the diode but it just keeps ringing. And of course the only way to truly make it go away is to BUY ANOTHER RING PRODUCT, you have to buy the Ring door chime to go with the Ring doorbell. The camera works, and notifications get sent to my phone, but come on this is a new Ring doorbell installed on a new house and it doesn't work properly.

It works great when we're home. The video is clear except for at night, wish it had night vision. When we're not home we get a notification that there's movement at the door. When I try to see the video it takes forever to connect or doesn't connect at all. I order online all the time so I thought this doorbell would be a good idea to make sure my packages don't get stolen. Yet if someone is stealing a package I can't even scare them off.

I purchased this item because I thought it would be great security at the door. When someone is at the door it buzzes on my phone but takes too long to open the APP and the person is gone before the APP opens and I can speak to them. Only works as a camera that will record and can look at later but it does not work fast enough to communicate with the person. I wind up answering the door without knowing who is at it before.

I had the original Ring doorbell and it needed daily checking and maintenance to make sure if remained hardwired and charged. Bought the new new to avoid hardwired problem. Worked ok for about 4 weeks now won't go into hardwired mode. Company doesn't seem to care. As with the original this one is very high maintenance item. The spare battery feature helps a lot but no blue lighted circle and no continuous charging..

IMO, it’s just an OK security device. It has a hard time capturing events that occur one right after the other. E.g., It will pickup a car pulling in my driveway but not when the person walks from the car to the front door. I’ve tried adjusting settings. There’s probably some type of delay between the first event and when the 2nd consecutive event can get picked up by the camera. Kind of defeats the purpose of having it at all.

It is very glitchy and I get a black screen alot. I've already exchanged it once because it wasn't picking up motion. My wifi isn't the problem because I have the floodlight and it works perfectly fine and it is further away from router. I also have the Chime Pro and that still didn't fix the problem. I think for the price of this it should be working alot better.
