    Great doorbell...but has some shortcomings

I set my Ring Doorbell2 up a month ago. The set up was easy but it had a few hitches 1 Once the battery is removed, for any reason including charging...you have to repeat the setup process. I hard wired mine to the door bell circuit, so fortunately I don't need to remove the battery for recharge. It would be ideal if the charge port was facing down so it could be recharged while in the unit. 2 Every time you change the motion settings...you have to be there to ring the doorbell to apply the settings? Really? why can't it be done via the app? The motion range setting is not granular enough. I get to much or too little ...the sweet spot is somewhere in the middle. 3 Live view. This is intermittent and from what I'm reading everyone is frustrated with it. It seems to have more issues if you are on the home wireless and cellular. After reading, it seems that Newer Netgear routers have an issue with this. It suggested to disable the security (set to open) in the NAT settings to get it to work. Its not a firewall port forwarding issue as everything is outbound. I'm currently testing this. 4 Add a FTP, NAS, or microSD capability for storage. Requiring a paid subscription for storage is a bit tacky. Other vendors provide some free storage for the first devices (Amcrest) I have other cameras and use one or more of those for my own image storage. 5. You can only have one admin user tied to the app. I wanted to share the door bell with my wife but she does not get all the same controls (not that I want her to change anything!)

For what I wanted from the system was early motion sensing of a human....not when they are standing at my front door and all you can see is their side not the front of their body. I have worked with Ring Support (Great Service) numerous times and have tried all the settings including moving the doorbell to get as early a detection of a human approaching as possible. The only way to get it to work was to set the zones to max and set sensitivity to high. It helps with earlier detection of a body but it picks up every car passing in front of the house....everyone!! I understand how infrared sensors work and I realize the car is a large hot target....but....there is no zone setting I can eliminate the cars and catch a human until they are at my door. To prevent a home invasion or at least give you a few seconds warning it won’t help me with a early warning. Now, for a doorbell and possibly a picture of who is ringing it plus the ability to talk to them that part may be ok.....no one has come to the door yet to try it. I am going to try another move of the doorbell to face the opposite wall of the entryway. Hopefully it will eliminate the false car alerts and with the wide angle it can pick up a human only coming to the door. Good thing I have a wireless motion camera out front also with it I can hopefully get a little more video of the person the ring misses....it falses a lot also. Is the Ring reliable??? For me it was very sporadic and not what I expected. I have blown a lot of money for no satisfaction from this technology.

    Should have Video Storage

I would not recommend this product. Let me explain why. First of all the basic function of this video doorbell is security and not a gadget. You want something that you can see who and when somebody tried to enter in your home, or came close to your home. This requires video storage and access to see the notifications for a limited time, may be 24 hours. Some competitors are offering free access to videos for 48 hours. Go for that door bell. In addition, the battery charge is very slow. Whereas battery drains pretty quickly. I have to enable live view as I don't want a subscription to access video, that drains battery faster than normal mode. I am positive only limited or new homes have wired connection at the front door. Please consider this as an important factor. The features are good. Wifi connectivity is strong. Video quality is good, just good. Sensors could be improved. Overall, I won't recommend this product, until it offers free access to a video within 24 hours and then it gets deleted. You know what, people are stealing this doorbell. If no video is available then how would you know who took it. Yes, I am serious. Stealing of a product, which is meant to protect you from such things.

I would not recommend this model for anyone that has the ability/availability to direct wire into an existing doorbell. The motion zones are too restricted for this model. There are 3 zones which you CAN turn on/off, BUT you can not adjust each zone individually as to how far out you want each zone to detect motion. This creates a big issue when your doorbell is facing a street, but you would like to detect motion on your front sidewalk that is coming from the side of your house. Someone is already ringing my doorbell before this doorbell detects any motion. By the time I get a notification and can pull it up on my phone, the delivery person is already heading down the street. Another issue with this model is the poor Wi-Fi technology/reception. Even with an Orbi mesh system, 100mps service, and very strong signal strength 10 ft from the main router this unit claims poor signal. I do not have this problem with any other device when standing in the exact same location. I wish I would have spent the extra $50 and got the pro to avoid some of these issues...

Upon initial installation, this was great! About 3 weeks into using it, I noticed the battery drained very quickly! I was expecting to go longer than 3 weeks off of a full battery (in the 2 months that I've had this, I've had to charge it 4 times, even with the recommended battery settings) . Then I noticed that the video quality was deteriorating. Very choppy and grainy. Now, the video only works half of the time...I will either get a grainy, chopped up video, or I'll just get a black screen. Yesterday, as I left my house, my alert went off to let me know there was movement on my porch... but it didn't even record, as it's supposed to! No video popped up for it at all. There are times when I'll go to check prior videos and it'll show solicitors leaving my house but not approaching my house, which I have it set up to do. That defeats the purpose! I've only had this for 2 months and I can't say I'm pleased with this purchase... not for the money I paid.

I was looking at this device for a while and saw it on sale with a free Echo Dot 3. So i went ahead and got it. Setup was easy. I have a few issues with this item. The motion sensor catches cars driving by even though i have my depth set to not reach anywhere near the road. The Sound when i am talking to people that are at the door is horrible. Just cracks and they cant hear anything i say. Though i hear them fine. The camera also has a weird color situation that occurs occasionally that would make it difficult to see someone. Ad finally there have been many times i tried to connect to answer the door bell and it says it cant connect. Which completely defeats the purpose of teh device. Internet connection is good. I have to back out of the app and reconnect a different way t the camera and then it works. By then the person is gone. I am going to take it back and try and swap it out and hope it was just i got a bad one.

We have had our Ring 2 for a year now. We have great wifi strength and a quick connection when we do a live feed and that is about where it stops. When the ring is motion activated the notification delay is so long people are already gone; for instance, the UPS guy will come and drop off the packages and by the time we get the notification he is already gone and not just away from the door but drove off. The doorbell rings in real time in the house but using the ring as a "peek hole" to see who is out there is pointless. The app doesn't connect fast enough to do anything in real time. We now use it as just a camera and to to rely on the "door" purpose for this device . The video quality is good and clear and you can hear everything in the video. I just wish it worked in real time as advertised.

I like it approximately 30 days in. Still seems to need some tweaking. Interesting to see what other Ring customers are capturing in the vicinity with porch pirates, bears, attempted auto burglary, questionable, soliciting, etc. When using the shortest motion distance setting, often times we only capture the back of the delivery person. The next setting out seems to be too far out often tripped by passing cars but does capture delivery person approaching now. Image quality could be better. Nice color during daylight hours. Easy install and adding to the home network. Application works relatively well. I just signed up for the $100 annual contract to capture and store, share video recordings. Nice to get real-time delivery notifications. Especially important for temperature sensitive deliveries, insulin etc.

I have a love-hate relationship with my doorbell. When it works, it captures everything I want crystal clear... from the delivery guy throwing my package to which sales person is at my door. When it doesn’t work I am frustrated. The doorbell when pressed always captures fine no matter the circumstance. But the motion sensors are glitchy. Sometimes they capture everything. Sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes it captures only a part and leaves out important parts. Sometimes it captures cars driving by (I call these false positives). As a result I have turned off motion notifications and I usually just go through the footage as need be. Live view is great! Just make sure there is a good WiFi connection. It’s a good entry level security doorbell if you’re looking for something affordable and practical.

The camera does a great job capturing those who come to your door. It notifies your phone instantly, the moment whatever triggers your motion sensor. The night vision isn’t that bad. The reason I gave it a 3 is that the wired version of The Ring Door Bell is more sensitive and starts recording earlier than the battery version. Also Ring states that the battery last 6 months to a year. I had this battery for 2 weeks and it’s at 47 percent. Strongly recommend that you buy an additional battery. But over all it does take great pictures.

right now it serves as a purpose everytime i'm away from home,i would be able to see who's at my front door because it notifies me if there's motion going on.i know for a fact that,i will be having issues since it's a wifi connection but i can deal with it because it all depends upon the speed of your internet and the location of your router.i would not recommend this for a 24/7 surviellance use since wifi is an issue here.as of this time i have minimal issues regarding this doorbell.with regards to the battery everyhing turn out to be good.i have this camera for a week now and i'm planning of keeping it.if you want a very reliable surveillance cameras there's plenty of them out there and i would recommend the wired ones if your looking for a better quality that you can monitor remotely and locally.other than that this camera works as what it said and i'm a satisfied customer.

At first we had a lot of issues with it. It wouldn't pick up the person until they were walking away or at times it wouldn't pick up the motion of my son dancing in front of it. But it would pick up cars passing by! Called Tech support and it did get better. The other issue is that during the day the sun affects it because sometimes when it picks up motion and we view it, it is bright and then fades to where you can see who it is. It has gotten better, not sure if it has to do with the updates they make on the app. Get it, try it out and if you don't like it, return it.

The Ring II is in the process of being debugged. After much time with Ring II Support trying to diagnose problems with pixelization, audio issues, and distortion of the color of the picture, I was advised that many other people in my area were having similar issues. Ring Support concluded there was a bug within their system. My Ring is currently a part of their study designed to find the bug. I have been guaranteed that I will have a clear and functional system. There are many potentially good features on this unit which I hope to take advantage once the bug has been eliminated. I would advise caution to anyone buying this system. I wonder if one of the issues is our 110 degree temperatures in Az. in the summer.

During the day the ring records okay video. It says it's supposed to be 1080p but it definitely does not look anyting like it. Quality is good enough to see some details up close but anyting 20b or further away from the camera is blurry. The nighttime video is pretty much a joke. If you want something to record video during the day time then this will work just fine. And so far I've had some recording where they audio is very glitchy. Also when someone's at your door they can barely hear what I'm saying and they have to put their ear almost on the ring to hear me. Very disappointed about that.

It works as advertised however there are a couple things I wish I would have known before purchase and here they are: 1. You will need to buy a subscription. If you want notifications on your phone and want to review or even record activity you must buy a subscription. 2. It will sap your internet bandwidth. I live in a remote area and the only internet option I have is AT&T DSL. I get about 20mbs download per second but when my motion sensor goes off and we are streaming a movie or gaming online it causes delays and serious lag. Overall not bad but these 2 things keep me from giving it 5 stars.

worked well for a short time. I have been reading reviews by other buyers, and I have very similar problems. I rarely get notifications unless someone actually rings the bell. My unit is only about 20 feet away from our router, but doesn't connect well half of the time, and we have two computers which are about 25 feet away which stay connected beautifully! The chime for the doorbell won't stay connected to the wifi at all , and hasn't worked in a year. Even if I do get a notification, by the time i get connected to the camera, the person is long gone. This thing is nothing more than an expensive joke, or a kid's toy. Great when and if it works... poor most of the time.

For the price I would expect better Wi-Fi range to properly function. I rarely can connect to get a live view even though the rating of connection claims to be better than most. If you do not plan to pay the monthly fee to save past videos and replay them I would not bother buying this product. Since I rarely get a live view I guess I would not buy it at all since I wonder if it would turn on and view someone at my door anyways. I walked in front of it several times and it did not notify me more than half the time. Maybe ill try using it indoors as a security notifier if someone enters my home.

The Ring Door Bell is a great concept, however it does not work perfectly. I purchased the ring door chime as well, and there is a noticeable lag between when the door bell is pushed and when the chime rings. There is major internet connection problem with the ring door bell. I have 1GB internet speed and the ring door bell is about 3 feet from my router and it drops connection randomly, the video is extremely choppy, video recordings are sometimes black, it shows it recorded an event, but you cannot view the video.

I have been using this for about 2 months now, the first month was good, then the 2nd month rolled around where it came time to pay for the cloud recording, and then i started having connection issues. Nothing has changed with my internet connection, same speeds, and same router location as it was when i first hooked it up. So not sure what going on, but until the connection issues started occurring it was amazing. I am constantly having to reconnect to the the network, as it will disconnect within in hours, sometimes even minutes after connecting to the network.

I really like the concept of how this works. We live on a corner and have difficulty with it being too sensitive to cars passing by. It captures lots of street movement but not peripheral areas well such as my driveway which I really wanted. Overall I like it but mine apparently needs fine tuning. Also, we have a narrow area for trim (just wide enough for a standard doorbell) and a slight inset so we had to add a block of wood to bring the viewing area out past the house.
