This product is conceptually great, as with all Ring products. It's quite an improvement from the previous doorbells and even works behind glass. My big issue is that the night vision isn't consistent. It's great when it works but it has lapses every night. The Ring app could be a big part of this problem. I'm such a fan of Ring products but the app is very unreliable. 1 last issue with any Ring product is that it relies on electricity and wif, despite being battery operated. Without either, you have nothing except an overpriced piece of equipment.

I've had two of these up for about a week now and they work great. One was hoard wired into an existing doorbell and the other was mounted on a clean wall. Both set ups were very easy and the directions hold your hand throughout the process. I've greatly enjoying being able to see whos coming and going with my young kids as well as package drop offs. Sometimes they're over sensitive to street movement even when you set them up not to notice those things but it's only with large vehicles like garbage trucks. I also greatly appreciate that you can snooze them so you aren't bombarded with notifications when the kids are running in and out all the time after school.

Not as reliable as I had hoped

I have been wanting to get a Ring for awhile and finally decided to go for it now that I am a widow and living alone. I have an older home so hardwiring was not an option. I chose this model due to the ease of removing the battery. It was a bit of a hassle to install as I had to drill into the brick. It is nice that the company provided a drill bit but it was useless. I watched a Youtube video and someone suggested a Bosch drill bit so I purchased that. Made the process easier and totally worth the 5 bucks. I do like they offered 2 doorbell covers in the box. This is really not advertised and I only knew this from watching Youtube unboxing videos. The covers in the box are satin nickel and a rubbed bronze in color. I didn't want the satin nickel as it did not go with my house and figured I would have to buy the bronze color from the Ring website, so I was pretty pleased I didn't have to do that. Also, Ring offers one additional free cover as well. There is a range of colors on their website. They are quite colorful and I ended up just choosing the black to go with my historical home. It arrived within a couple of days via Amazon, so that was surprising it came so fast. So I have the option to change it out when I want. I installed it using the wedge so it tilts slightly downward as that is recommended if your door is at the top of a staircase, which I have to avoid false detections from the street. The perk to using the wedge is that it only requires 2 drill holes instead of 4. Setting up was easy and had it going as soon as I had it installed. I really like the Ring community where others share what is going on in their neighborhood. You can customize the range you want. Now the reason for the 3 stars. It is not as accurate as I had hoped. Sometimes it goes off when a car drives past the house but most of the time it doesn't, which is a good thing but odd how inaccurate it is. I have had packages and mail delivered where they come right up to the door, in front of the Ring and it didn't detect them at all. This has happened about 5 or 6 times now so I am not finding it reliable. It tells me my wifi connection is poor. I am not sure why as I have excellent strength throughout the house and even in the yard. Many times I have been out in the backyard patio with my computer etc which is considerably farther from my router than the front door is and had no issues with the wifi. Lastly, the removable battery. It is not what I expected. I thought I would be able to pop it out with ease which for the most part that is correct but there is a small screw in the bottom that you have to use. I suppose this is to deter theft but its not as easy to just pop in and out as claimed. The screw is very small and it is awkward to remove. I am concerned about dropping it and losing it. So far the battery life has been very good but then again, it doesn't really pick up much so that might be why. Overall, I had hoped it would be a lot better than it is, especially since I put holes in my brick.

      Hi Fallingwater,

Thank you so much for taking the time to detail your experience with the Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus. We love to hear your feedback, and appreciate you doing so, so eloquently. We are happy to hear about what you are enjoying between the great features and the Ring Community. These are designed with you in mind, so we love to know when they are being utilized. If you haven't already, we highly recommend checking out our Ring Community forum, which is accessible through our web page, here: https://community.ring.com/. From this outlet you will find hundreds of other Ring users, like yourself, sharing their experiences, opening discussions to address concerns, and provide their feedback on where they would like to see in the future of Ring. We want to assure you that we do take your feedback very seriously, and encourage you to have your voice be heard.

To address one of the concerns you have mentioned, we would like to provide you with a few pieces of information that may help resolve your concern. You had mentioned that you have other devices around your home that do not suffer from a poor wifi signal. This is important to note, as this will be a direct reflection of how devices are impacted differently from one another by things such as physical barriers from the housing material (stucco, brick, metal, and glass), distance, and even other competing networks within your environment. While it doesn't always seem obvious, a poor wifi signal will cause issues to occur such as you had noted with missed motion events, or slow response times. These instances can be combatted by strengthening your wifi network through wifi extenders such as the Chime Pro, or mesh networks like the Eero. We are happy to discuss these in further detail, should you find that these solutions interest you. You are also welcome to learn more through our Help Center, here: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360020044511-How-to-Make-Wifi-Work-For-You.

Lastly, you are correct, the small screw at the bottom of the device is intended to be used as an added security measure to secure your battery inside the device.

We hope this helps address your concerns, and look forward to hearing from you on our Ring Community forum.

      Best,
      Caitlin with Ring Ring

coming from the original Ring to the ring 3. Ring 3 adds the roll up video feature (black and white only) but gives you a idea of what took place prior to the event. Same easy to install unit with multiple angle options. Love the new 5GHZ wireless connection as well. Easy install quick setup. 1 issue i would like Ring to solve is when removing or upgrading a device allow the remaining subscription to migrate vs a call to Ring customer service.

Camera quality is pretty good. The delay in response is sometimes very slow and any activity has moved on by the time it responds. The requirement to subscribe to the service makes it almost worthless except for a remote doorbell. If I'm not home I usually don't want to talk to people who come to the door. Especially when it interrupts my appointments with clients that I left the house to meet with. I find I can see anything that approaches the door bell (door) but It doesn't show the packages once they've been set on the ground or the porch chair next to the door

I had a Ring Pro that had connectivity issues every now and then. I haven't had the same problems with the Ring 3 Plus. I was able to connect this via hard wire and although it took a few days for it to happen, it finally started charging more than it was using and it keeps my battery at 100%. No complaints with this Ring, like all other Rings it had a great installation guide and provided all the materials/tools needed to install (except for a drill but they do provide a bit). The Ring Pro had a tiny torx screw that stripped and was such a problem. The Ring 3 Plus uses a larger screw and seems to be easier to screw and unscrew.

I think its a great device especially when bundled with an echo show or something similar. Takes a few days to get the settings right. Out the box it was picking up everything on the street in front of the house. We were able to adjust to make it less so. The look of the ring is okay i think it could be more attractive given the price. Battery lasted us about 30 days while frequently video recording(better than i expected quality even at night). Its worth it in my opinion. Cons: heavily dependent on wireless connectivity. Not really a con but if you’re not familiar with how wifi environments work you could have issues.

I bought the Ring 3 plus for the back door. But changed my Ring pro, that was on the front door, to the back & instead placed it on the front. I love the Ring products. I've never had a problem with them. I bought the plug-in adapter for the Ring Pro & wanted to try the battery operated one & it has some of the same features as the Ring Pro. I also bought an extra battery. So, I always have a full charged battery when the other gets low. Because it does take a while to charge & you won't miss any action.

The Ring Door Bell is a good addition to anyone’s security system. The picture quality is okay for the price point. Just keep in mind, there is a short trial period. In the event that you do not subscribe, most functions are limited. Also, be sure to purchase additional batteries. Depending on how you initial setup your device, will determine how fast or slow you deplete you battery. My best advice would be to hard all devices, and you will not have to worry about that.

Great doorbell camera. U can put it on motion sensor and as soon as someone walks nearby it starts recording. The battery life is good. It will last around 3 days. The notifications to your phone is almost instantaneous. It took literally 5 mins for me to install. Easy to secure to your door or door frame with provided hardware. Setup was straight forward....it took me a little longer because I couldn't remember my wifi password. But once you have all your passwords required setup is probably 10 mins if even that long. It was a great buy and investment in security for my home especially if you shop online a lot.
