We have other devices that connect fine to our WiFi from farther away( including a Ring Floodlight camera). The ring doorbell is on the first floor and close to the router. It goes from weak signal to offline. I then have to remove the battery to reboot it. I’ll have to invest in a WiFi extender just for the doorbell, or return it for some other product.

It sounds like the device is not performing as intended in regards to connection. The Ring Video Doorbell 4 is Ring’s battery video doorbell with features including color "Pre-Roll" technology, 1080p HD video, two-way talk, "Advance Motion Detection," enhanced dual-band wifi and "Quick Replies." With color "Pre-Roll," users can see even more of what’s happening outside their front door. With an additional 4-second color video preview of each motion event, the doorbell will automatically start recording before users even receive an alert.
Here are a few of the top reasons for poor connectivity:
Your Ring device may be too far from your WiFi router.
Your mobile device has a low signal or poor connection.
Your home wifi connection is poor (or your internet service provider is experiencing high traffic).
To learn more about your device's signal strength, follow these steps:
Open the Ring app.
Tap the menu (☰).
Tap “Devices.”
Select the ring device you would like to test.
Tap on the “Device Health” tile.
Scroll to “Signal Strength” under the “Network” section.
The green, amber, and red colors are indicators of your device connection. Green is good; red is poor.
Move your wifi router off the floor.
Walls, floors, and furniture can interfere with or weaken your router's wireless signal. Choose an elevated, central, open location for your wifi router. To address signal strength issues, try moving your device closer to the router or extending your wifi signal with a wifi extender like the Ring Chime Pro.
Check your mobile device's signal. If your mobile device has one or two bars, this could be causing issues accessing your Ring device. For best results, make sure you're connected to wifi from wherever you are.
Most internet service providers range from 100–400 mbps (megabytes per second) for download speed and 10–100 mbps for uploading. If your wifi speed is falling below the ranges noted above, we recommend contacting your internet service provider.

It sounds like your device is not working properly. Depending on what the concern is, there are a number of troubleshooting steps we can take.
The first thing we will want to check is that the battery is fully charged. To check this, take the faceplate off the doorbell, and then remove the battery pack. Fully charge the provided battery by plugging it into a USB port using the provided orange cable. The battery is fully charged when only the green LED is lit.
Then insert the battery with the flat metal catch facing the front of the doorbell. The largest portion of this catch should be on the bottom. When you have inserted the battery properly, you should hear a ‘click.’ This means the battery is properly secured. Your device should then power on.

It has two ways to install, either directly connect to the ring doorbell electrical wire or by using the batteries, for me I’m using the batteries, each charge last almost for more than a month.

Also purchased the Ring Doorbell after installing new Doorbell 4, our house doorbell stopped working two weeks after the install. Was easy to install and able to use the same screws, used same mounting holes, wiring for operation purposes. The Ring Doorbell has numerous rings and only requires searching for one that pleases your taste. Very happy with the new Ring-Video Doorbell 4, only down side being the monthly charges for displaying video. Otherwise, primo device and great viewing clear pictures/videos, even at night!

The video quality is also good for what it is. Would like to see this in 4K if possible. The color pre-roll is definitely a plus! From my experience in using the device for the first time ever purchasing a ring camera, the 4-sec on the pre-roll definitely helps see what triggered the notification that was sent to your phone. It is a little bit blurry for the 1st 4 seconds but it does pick back up on the quality from where the motion was detected though. You can access the live view pretty quickly as well, also dependent on your phones signal. Even though this camera doesn't capture the head-to-toe like the other model does, it still does a pretty good job of capturing it for the most part, you just have to be strategic on where you want to place the camera in order to capture the video. Other than that, it is a pretty good doorbell camera to have for your home/apartment. The monthly payment option is worth it to keep your recorded videos incase an event does happen. I went ahead and paid for the annual price, helps save a few bucks! Definitely recommend this product!
