I’m sure it’s a great product. Just wish I could use it with my ring system. Have to buy a bridge to allow it to work.

Hi Calany01. The Mailbox Sensor is indeed a great product. If you don't have a Ring Bridge, you can use select Amazon Echo and Alexa devices as a Bridge. You can learn more about this integration in this Help Center Article here: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360059329551-Using-your-Echo-devices-as-a-Smart-Lighting-Bridge. Unlike other Ring products this doesn't work with the Chime or a "regular" Alexa show. Had to return or spend entirely too much money just to use.

It’s not pure wi-fi as it requires the bridge to be close by and that wasn’t even included

We do notify our customers about the required Ring Bridge on Best Buy’s site under the device specifications, on our Ring website under the product details, and on the box of all Ring smart lighting devices. As an alternative, you can use select Amazon Echo or Alexa devices as a ring bridge: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360059329551-Using-your-Echo-devices-as-a-Smart-Lighting-Bridge. The Ring Bridge is the central hub that is required to integrate Ring smart lights, motion sensors, and transformers into your Ring App. The Ring Bridge connects to the Ring App using your home wifi network and connects to other Ring Smart Lighting products using a proprietary long-range communication protocol. I absolutely love my new mailbox sensor once I drilled the hole into my mailbox to attach the additional range extender and bought some high-quality AAA batteries. Everything was working perfect would highly recommend.

Nice Idea but needs some work

I purchased one of these to receive alerts for my community mailbox. I have been using it for a few weeks with mixed results. The good: It works in a community mailbox with the antenna inside. I get an alert saying "You've Got mail" from my Amazon Echo Show every time there is a delivery. The bad: The batteries drained after only a few weeks of use. I was told it was due to the cold weather. I have also had connection issues, but I suspect those were mostly due to the battery drain issues. Overall, when it works it's wonderful. But having to constantly fuss with it to get it to work right is an annoyance. I don't regret buying it, but they have some bugs they need to work out.

    Anything but long battery life

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

One problem with this product-short battery life. I get 8 weeks from either Li or alkaline batteries – that is unacceptable for one to three mailbox openings per day. The battery life is no different during sub zero winter weather than it is during the summer more temperate weather. I have called and spoken with a Ring Rep and have not gotten any answer of ANY value. Their reference to read trouble shooting tips and tricks certainly does not “Solve” the problem or answer the question. I have asked about solar recharging of the mailbox sensor and have not gotten any answer. It certainly makes me very leerly to consider purchasing another product from Ring. This is a known problem with the sensor as witnessed by the number of comments on ring's community site.

      Hello WisconsinRPh,

We appreciate you leaving a review. We understand how important it is to ensure that the battery is holding its proper charge and how cumbersome recharging the batteries can be. Please know that we are here to resolve these concerns with you today.

Based on your review, it seems that you are experiencing frequent battery drainage. While batteries in Ring devices can go months between recharges with normal use, this is dependent on a number of factors in your home’s environment, such as the local weather and the number of activities captured. This article will detail some of the factors that may cause your battery to require more frequent recharges: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/208190773.

We appreciate that you have placed value in owning a Ring device to secure your home and know it's important that it meets your expectations. Please visit our community forum at https://community.ring.com/, as we have some additional solutions we'd love to share with you.

    Ring needs to fix this

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This device has a terrible flaw that could easily be fixed by a software update from Ring. There is no way to share the status of this with other users on your account. So only the account owner will receive notifications when motion is detected, none of your authorized users on your account. Ring has been aware of this issue for two years now and it has not been fixed. So if you bought this expecting all members of your house to get notified (like I did) you will be disappointed.

Hi JaBo. Making sure everyone in your home is notified is definitely a key concern. Ring Smart Lighting devices, including the Mailbox Sensor, cannot be shared with Shared Users at this time. I'd recommend adding this idea to the Feature Request board on the Ring Community, which you can find here: https://community.ring.com/c/products/24. The Ring Community is our peer-to-peer forum, and the Feature Request board allows you to add your suggestions and feedback for other neighbors to see as well. Best, Ashley from Ring. Ring

Really wanted this to work as the new USPS trucks are quiet. In 3 days we received 30 FALSE alerts! No it wasn’t installed wrong, look at the Ring forum complaints. Ring customer service has gone way downhill.

      Hi GA Resident.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand how important it is for your Ring Mailbox Sensor to detect motion as intended. The Ring Mailbox Sensor was designed to capture motion based on your specifications to help keep your mailbox secure. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concern mentioned in your review.

It sounds like the device is not operating as you expected in regards to false alerts. We would like to share some information with you regarding what may be causing unwanted motion detection on your device.

Ring Smart Lighting devices, such as the Ring Mailbox Sensor, use a technology called "passive infrared," or PIR, in order to detect motion. PIRs detect motion by detecting changes in heat. As a result, there are other factors that can trigger your device to detect motion. Take note of the weather in your area. Shadows and clouds can cause temperature fluctuations in an area warmed by intense sunlight, and this may trigger unwanted motion events. High winds can be warmer or cooler than the settled air, resulting in motion events as well. Once you've taken into account the environmental factors that could be impacting motion detection, you can adjust the sensitivity of your device through the Ring app so you only receive the alerts you want to.

If any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Mailbox Sensor, please reach out to our Community. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their feedback and experiences directly with Ring.

      Thank you,
      Melissa from Ring. Ring
