The Ring Mailbox Sensor is a wireless, battery-powered motion sensor that tells you when your mailbox is opened. Saw this mailbox sensor and were very excited to use it, only to discover that it requires a separate ($50!) hub from ring. We already have a smart hub we are very happy with and are not interested in buying another just to make this device work.

The Ring Smart Lighting lights run on a power efficient, long-range RF Network. The Bridge converts the RF signals to wifi to deliver information from the system to you in the form of alerts or diagnostic information. It also translates commands from you sent on wifi to the RF network to control the lights.
We notify our customers about the required Ring bridge on Best Buy's site under the device specifications, on our Ring website under the product details, and on the box of all Ring smart lighting devices.
Also Ring Community was launched to help deliver the most current news and educational information to our neighbors. This online forum is divided into four categories: Product Boards, Ring Updates, Tips + Tricks, and a Moderators’ Corner. It sounds like the device is not operating as intended. The Ring Mailbox Sensor is a wireless, battery-powered motion sensor that tells you when your mailbox is opened.
If your mailbox is made of metal, it can block the wireless signal that connects the Mailbox Sensor to your Ring Bridge. Install your Mailbox Sensor with the included antenna to ensure your device stays connected and the wireless signal remains uninterrupted. Flip the switch inside the battery depression to face the octagon symbol (default).
If you do not have a metal mailbox, you can still add the antenna to increase your Ring Mailbox Sensor’s range. The Ring Mailbox Sensor goes on the inside of your mailbox door. The antenna goes on the outside, and its cable needs to run inside to the sensor. To avoid damaging the cable, there must be a hole or gap for the cable to run through. If your mailbox doesn't have one, make your own using the included drill bit. If you are still experiencing connection issues, we recommend moving the Ring Bridge as close to the Mailbox Sensor as possible.

I finally gave up on Best Buy to make things right, bad attitude.
