The Ring Doorbell camera is a great way to keep track of when packages arrive at your house and to deter suspicious activity. You download an app to your phone that gives you a direct feed to the camera when it detects motion. It has an intercom system built in so you can speak to the person through the doorbell. It also has built in night vision which is a plus. A smart phone is required, and you will either need to charge the Ring doorbell or hook it up to your previous doorbell system for power. It's also very dependent on a good internet connection in your home, so keep that in mind when purchasing.

Overall I love the Ring it definitely does what I need it to do. Few cons: size-make sure it fits your door frame area or you might end up with a blind spot. Night-very hard to see at night, would need to keep porch light on or have motion lights. Charge it- you have to disconnect it to charge it every few months. Video Subscription- you have to go online to register for the video subscription after your free 30 day trial. I love that I can answe my doorbell from anywhere and I have the motion detector set to ring so people coming to my house know it’s there. A great deterant for thieves.

So I purchased ring for a few reasons that I will identify below and I must say so far I am very happy with my purchase.
Reason why I purchased Ring:
1) I was looking for a door bell that did not have to be hard wired as my home is a brick home and I currently don't have wired door bells.
2) My home office is in the basement so I needed a door bell that I could see who was at the door before getting up to go get the door.
3) Ring wok great with Apple Products.
4) You can also add network door chimes to ring just incase you don't have your phone on you.
5) you can have a Ring door bell at both the front door and the side door.
6) you can also setup motion Detection Recording for security reasons so you know who, when were and why someone comes on your property.
About Ring:
1) Great packaging. Ring provide you with everything you need to install ring and if you already have a wired doorbell ring is also compatible with this scenario so you don't need to recharge the batteries.
2) setup is super easy, just down load the app, create a account, follow the instructions and install.
3) Motion detection setup but again this is very easy.
4) Wireless network Chime: I ordered two of thee from ring and they just shipped so i cannot provide any feed back on these as of right now.
To be determined:
- As of right now I don't know how long the battery will last before i need to recharge but based on Ring's statements I am expecting that I need to charge once a year.

I am an ex IT Exec, and I have done plenty of beta tests throughout my career. I had had friends recommend the device so I picked one up during Black Friday to see what it can do.
I am newly disabled and cannot get around all that well so I rely on deliveries a lot. Amazon Key is a part of Prime that will deliver your items to the inside of your house. Amazon requires you to have one of their cameras inside to make it work. With the Ring, if they rang the doorbell first, you could see the before, during, and after Amazon makes their delivery.
Given my mobility, when someone comes to the door, often times they will leave thinking nobody is home... it is just that I couldn't get to the door in time. Now, I can answer the door, and with IFTTT, and a Schlage smart lock, I can get up and answer the door without risking further injury, panic, etc. I have special needs and my Mom's hands are stronger, but even with that much weakness, I was able to do the install no problem. I have an intercom system that is never turned on, and in spite of all the attempts to get people to use the intercom, everyone just usually yells loudly. So sometimes someone will ring the Ring, and other times they will ring the intercom. Regardless, if you have a stucco house, or if you are unsure because you would have to recharge the Ring, don't worry, Ring anticipated your needs ahead of time. They literally thought of seemingly everything. Tip: To make sure I didn't drill the holes too deep I put a piece of blue masking tape so I could see how far into the door jam I was drilling. The only other thing I can say about installation is I was unsure of the proper height because I wanted it to be ADA compliant. The instructions are potentially long enough that they could print a ruler on one side of the instructions. That way you have a good gauge of where you are from floor to lock height without needing a tape measure. Besides you already have the instructions there. Why can't Ring just make sure the instructions pamphlet was long enough to touch the floor and still have it at the right height. Still, with everything else, you get a level to make sure the Ring is level and not leaning to one side. A drill bit so you're using the right size bit. You even get an extra insert and screw in case you need to replace one or something gets dropped, etc. It is the little details like these which make such a huge difference. I was concerned about the use of security screws because if you have to unscrew the device to recharge it, those security screws can go anywhere. But Ring thought about that too and made sure they don't fall out of the device when you remove the cover to recharge it. To recharge it, you could use a solar panel or use a USB AC adapter as this is a micro USB connection. I wanted to know the Ring if God forbid something happens, I wanted to make sure I invested in a product that would make my life easier without breaking the bank, and one which would be safe and not stolen if installed outside. Tip: I put a little bit of silicone caulking in the holes because I wanted to make sure the mounting bracket didn't go anywhere. I also did it because I was drilling into wood which is always outdoors, and was going to be touched a bunch. Compromising the integrity of wood that is outdoors is asking for dry rot. So I caulked my screw holes. It isn't going anywhere, but if God forbid your Ring grows legs and walks away, Ring will replace it for you. I was interested in making the purchase before, but the more I investigated, the more I felt compelled to get one.
Because we had a Schlage deadbolt previously, installing the new Schlage deadbolt was simple, so I had the new Schlage deadbolt re-keyed to match the existing front door key. We can still program codes, but the convenience of this along with the Ring doorbell are somewhat like having a microwave. Could you go back to living without one? The same holds true for the Ring.
The Kids (octogenarians aka Mom and Dad), insist they can hear the doorbell ring and don't need hearing aids. With the use Philips Hue light bulbs and IFTTT, I have the Ring configured so lights start to flash when someone rings the doorbell.
I have a Wink hub (gen 1), and it found the Ring on the first try. The Wink is a good 30-40 feet away, and had no problems connecting. I have been working on some automation projects and have looked at Home Assistant and HASS.io. I have read the Ring will integrate with Home Assistant too. Bottom line, you get plenty of choices and options as far as home automation is concerned. If you're an Apple user, this is HomeKit aware. I have to do some more tweaking with things at my house, to be able to test everything thoroughly, but this has shown to be very helpful in the few short days I've had it installed.

This doorbell was super easy to install and the instructions were clear and well written. It comes with all the tools you need. I'm not the handiest, but after I charged it, it took me less than 15 minutes to install it (I didn't have a hardwired doorbell to connect it to). I downloaded the app, which only took a few minutes. It is very easy to use and understand, and I signed up for the online video recording service. With live view, I was able to spot a problem while on vacation that a quick call to a neighbor was able to fix right away. My kids liked it so much they bought one just like it!

I had a video doorbell unit from a different company. From the start this was was easy to install and get up and running. The video quality is good and the notices are instantly on my phone when the someone rings the door bell. I only wish I had a wired door bell so I can have power to it constantly. I'll need to remove it and charge it every 6 months.
I have not actually tried to speak to anyone through the app and I wish I could change the chime on my phone. I don't know that I can't, but I've not spent much time trying to do it.

Easy installation and set-up. Best for hard-wired doorbell systems, but also works good with battery/wireless doorbell systems. High quality image and clear sound. When away from home functions best when phone or tablet are connected to wifi, but will work well via cell carrier connection. Customizable device, zones and sensitivity settings. Also recommend purchasing the $30 annual cloud storage option. Have used Ring for 40+ days and greeted multiple visitors and turned away/screened many annoying salespeople.

I gave this as a gift because the person has no doorbell but many pieces of art visible front the front porch. We tested it & even at night a person's features are visible as they come up the walk & steps before they even approach the door. Then you can speak to them as if you are home & too busy to answer the door if you want to. I get one for my birthday. WoooHooo!

Install went smoothly with the tools provided (I would normally use my own, but that was not necessary). It was easy to get it configured on our wireless network and setup my account. Video quality is excellent. We did have one night of no ring notifications when we were in the house and heard doorbell for family coming over. It worked that morning and worked again the next time (and we think every time since).
Pros:
-Easy install
-Powered by existing wiring
-Fit existing location cleanly
-Matches existing door hardware color/design
-Motion sensitivity easily adjusted to prevent false alarms
-Excellent quality video and audio
Cons:
-You have to ring bell to save updates/changes to motion configuration (no remote changing)
-Sometimes delayed on motion - you see the UPS man walking away but not approaching or leaving package.
-One short period (that we know of) with failure to notify on actual doorbell ring
-Audio delayed initially in video
-No on demand live viewing - video access (including live) only available when answering a live motion or doorbell notification
Overall I would give it a 4.5 out of 5 (Best Buy only gives 4 or 5 option) and would recommend it. Being a cloud solution and something they update remotely, I hope some of my minor gripes (on demand live video, audio delay, video delay) can be addressed.

This product is exactly what I needed to notify me if anyone comes to my door. It has a decent motion detection once you get the distance figured out. Of course when someone rings the door bell feature you get instantly notified and you can communicate with that person really well. My only concern is the battery life. I am using the "onboard" battery instead of hard wired. The manufacturer says the battery lasts up to 6 months under the right conditions. I have not been that lucky. It only lasts just over a month for me, but it could be the cold winter temps making the duration less.

I found this product among others but chose the Ring due to clarity of what the video could provide. I was surprised that the video is a complete fisheye view but something I could live with. I keep hearing that the Ring will provide on demand viewing function but it has not happen yet. Also I'm still within the trial recording period but wished that recording could have been local or pushed to a NAS or other free cloud storage as an option. I might be stuck paying their service fee to keep the recording functionality. Overall setup to the network was easy.
Things I would like to see changed/modified are to be able to change the ring tone both on the device and application. Plus have the ability to change the alert volume separate from the phone ring volume. Their tone is more amplified than the cell phone. Having the ability to setup local NAS or push the video to a separate/independent storage device be nice capability or have a free stored video option (maybe a 1 week video retention). Wished the product would support dual band wifi standards.
Mounting was pretty straight forward but drilling stucco is a bit harder than it looks and making it perfectly straight was difficult. Wished I could have just used the previous doorbell mounting holes would have made it much easier.
Overall I have been satisfied with the product and what it delivers.

This camera is good, especially for the price. It can be a little temperamental when it comes to catching too many things (like cars passing on the street), but adjusting the sensitivity helps. It was also pretty easy to install. I’m sure the newest version is even better, but overall this is a product I’m happy with.

You don't realize how many people go past your house daily or come to the door. Installation for non-wiring was easy - drill 4 holes into siding, add plastic plugs, and screw doorbell in. Done. We also got the RING CHIME PRO which extends the WiFi signal in the hosue and acts as a ringer in case our phones aren't on loud. Video quality is good. The fact that you can talk to the people coming and going is such a neat feature. App is very quick and simple. This records the motion too within the app. You will feel very safe with this smart device on your front door!

It took hours of adjusting settings to get the motion detection sensitivity correct for my doorbell location, but once it was tuned properly, it worked fine. The doorbell ring part works flawlessly. The motion detection option is a bit tricky. Customer service was hit or miss. If you get someone who isn't helpful, try again. The second time the guy knew exactly what to do. The iPhone app is a little quirky in that the customer service rep had to show me a hidden feature to enable minimum sensitivity distance for motion detection--you have to select at least one of the five zones for it to work. I hope they'll provide an update that makes that simple. Now it works great. What's missing is the ability to view video from the camera on demand instead of only when the doorbell button is pushed or when motion is detected. That's not an advertised feature, but it would be a nice software update to be added to the product.

so i bought 2 of these, one for myself and one for my parents, my parents love theurs and so do i, adjusting the motion detector was the longest thing when setting it up (maybe 30 mins) but alot of that was because we live on very busy street and didnt wanna pick up the cars or people walking by on the sidewalk other than that very little installation time, its been a week and so far we have used 25% of the battery life but some of that was due to my kids setting it off, just to dance in front of it, or saying bye as they leave to school

The ring is easy to setup with the phone app if you have a good signal and know your passwords. I added a chime on my patio which was also easy to setup once I read what the flashing light meant. My neighbors saw my ring and have asked if I can install one for them. The neighborhood notification feature is great also. I would give it 5 stars but the live view has stopped working. It gets to accessing but fails. Live view did work the first couple of times that I used it.

We have used several brands of video doorbells through the years, including dedicated, proprietary hardwired units, but for this review I will address only ones that I feel are competitive with Ring.
IMHO, its main competitor is the SkyBell HD as they are similar priced and have similar capabilities. The yet-to-be-released August Doorbell should also be a consideration once it ships (if ever, as it is waaay delayed!).
The Ring has an edge over the SkyBell in installation flexibility (can run on batteries), more setup customization and better Customer Service.
SkyBell advanatages are "video monitoring" (see below), FREE cloud recording and action based integration.
SkyBell's video monitoring feature is a big plus and one that Ring has promised is "Coming Soon" for over a year now. This allows you to press button in the app and see a real-time video image. Why is this important? If you miss the notification response window and want to see who it was, OR if you know workers are supposed to be there and you want to check up on them, OR if you hear a noise but the motion detection hasn't picked up anything and turned the camera on, etc.
So, which would I recommend?
If you have no preference on aesthetics or any physical restrictions, they both are good alternatives so you will need to look at their differences to help you decide. If "on demand" viewing and FREE cloud viewing is important to you, choose SkyBell. If you don't have the necessary wiring for SkyBell and need a battery powered model, then Ring is your only choice.
****************************************
If your budget allows, you should also consider DoorBird:
Hardware wise neither the Ring or SkyBell compare to the DoorBird (more expensive, but, you get what you paid for). The German quality is obvious at first touch.
Even though it is 720p like Ring vs 1080p on the SkyBell, due to its lens quality and size, it offers the best picture of the three. It also has the best audio (same reasons) available and its motion detection is flawless. The app could use some work as it isn't as polished as Ring or SkyBell.
DoorBird also offers a POE connection for those fortunate enough to have a network wire at their door. There are terminals to connect to an existing door chime or door opener (it can even trigger your garage door to let people in) and seems to have a lot of integration partners.
Doorbot also offers a flush mount version and a full stainless steel surface mount version (front plate and box), but they go even higher in price.
One thing to keep in mind on ALL THREE of these is that their functionality is dependent on their apps & servers. If the company bails, your investment is gone. Ring is the #1 seller in the US. DoorBird is the #1 seller in Europe. SkyBell's first two efforts were less than stellar. Their never HD model seems to have corrected all of the complaints and added missing features.
There are a lot of angry posts about Doorbot and the product never working as promised. Ring IS Doorbot so they have a past. Many claim that they never took care of their issues while other say that they were fairly treated with free or discounted product. YMMV.

I like the features this offers, but it's still a bit of a beta product, they haven't worked out all the kinks. The video quality is average (720p) and gets the job done. The sensors pick up too much motion and set of the Ring when a large vehicle drives by our the wind is blowing things around in our yard. The bell press response time isn't immediate, so when we are alerted on our phones the guest may have been standing there a good minute or two. The worst part is they charge for their cloud services. It's pretty reasonably priced, but completely featureless, it only backs up the video for doorbell events (press it motion). Since you can live view the camera anytime, the only value this adds is if you live in a high crime area and want surveillance, and this isn't the best product to buy for that. I'm thinking about turning off the motion and just using this as a Doorbell/intercom (you can talk through it) albeit a very expensive one.
Wiring was bit if a pain, but highly recommended. If you don't have existing doorbell wiring, you have to remove the battery and recharge it in your house or install a transformer. Customer service was useless and told me this device can't use the existing wiring, which is absolutely incorrect. I got it working, but it's not as easy as plug and play, requires some thinking and study if your voltage isn't correct.
