A best in class compact, mechanical keyboard

This keyboard represents one of the better gaming keyboards in this form factor on the market right now. For a compact, high quality, excellent performing keyboard, you cannot go wrong with this keyboard. Here are the pros and cons of my experience thus far. Pros: -The keys themselves, as red linear switches, are absolutely stunning in their feel, look, and function. They have low profile keycaps that seem to curve inward--cradling your fingertips with every key stroke. Roccat claims that these have some sort of reinforcement in them to reduce side-to-side play and I can absolutely attest to that being true. I have had no less than 4 red linear switch mechanical keyboards, and these keys are the first among them to feel this strong and resistant to side to side play. -Low profile, compact footprint. If you are looking for a small, easily portable keyboard for competitive gameplay or precise typing on the go, this is an amazing option. It is so low profile in fact, that even with my bad wrists, I do not feel that a wrist rest is necessitated to type with this for extended periods of time. The fact that it is detachable from its USB-C cord too makes it easy to clear space off my desk if I need it, which leads us into the next pro…: -It is compatible with any USB-C cord!!! I tested this, and the keyboard worked with any USB-C to USB-A cable I had. That means, that if you are running a clean home desktop setup and you don’t want to be unplugging your cords from the computer itself all the time, you can leave the cord plugged in to the desktop and easily pack up this keyboard with any other USB-C cord that is compatible with the device you want to hook it up to. I am half-tempted to take this keyboard between work and home as it is so much nicer to type on than the awful membrane keyboards there. With how easy this is to plug and unplug, that is a distinct possibility! -The AIMO lighting option is super cool. I actually don’t even know where to begin to explain it better than Roccat’s website can, but I am really enjoying it as part of my rainbow vomit computing setup! For the other lighting options though, I have explored the Roccat Swarm lighting software, and I cannot seem to find any evidence that this has individual RGB programming for each key. It seems to be relegated to pre-programmed lighting zones. This is not a huge deal to me, but something that I want others to be aware of. -High quality materials. Roccat cut no corners here. The brushed aluminum top of this keyboard is gorgeous. The plastics of the keyboard are not flimsy at all and are a silky, matte finish--befitting a more grown up gaming keyboard. The hinges of the feet of the keyboard are firm and snappy, something I noticed when I first messed with them. All in all, the build quality of this keyboard is outstanding. -Unlike some manufacturers, I appreciate the placement ROCCAT chose to put some of the FN secondary options on various keys. For example, on this truncated keyboard, I find that I appreciated the choice of turning the Windows shortcut key on the left into an FN key, making it easier with my natural typing position to navigate some of the FN media keys. This was done by the way by selecting FN and END together. Cons: -Only the most sensitive ears will notice (the same ones that noticed the mosquito ring tone back in like 2005-2008 that all the kids would play during classes), but there is a very high pitched low-buzzing noise that my specific keyboard is emitting, similar to coil whine. I have tested it, and the source seems to be from the LED lighting of the keyboard. When I turn off the LED lighting, the noise disappears. The brighter the LED lighting, the louder it is. I was able to get down the brightness to a certain level where the noise was no longer emitting. This could be unique to my unit and I am sure that if it is something that bothered me enough, Roccat would stand behind there warranty and replace it. Frankly, I do not think most people will notice this and the issue is eliminated altogether with a headset while computing or gaming. -The space bar on my unit does have a distinct metallic ping on the rebound from its pressed in position. This may reduce with break-in time, but it is worth mentioning. Overall, pros and cons placed into consideration. I will give this keyboard a huge thumbs up. I am thrilled to have it as part of my gaming arsenal, and it is further evidence that Roccat knows what they are doing in the gaming industry!

A truly great keyboard with great lighting!

    Cons mentioned:
    Ease of use, Noise

The ROCCAT keyboard is a sight to behold, with a premium build quality, bright RGB lighting, and an intuitive app (SWARM) that can be used to customize the various features. The top of the keyboard has a machined like finish, in a darker metallic gray look, with a turn dial for volume control, and simple push button for mute. This makes it easy to control volume on the fly, with minimal need to look down to figure out where it is. The keys are also backlit very well, with brightness controlled either through the function key on the keyboard or using the SWARM app provided by ROCCAT (you will need to download it from their site). On the underside, you will find the small raiser feet to lift the keyboard at an upward angle. In the box you will find the keyboard, a USB C to A cable, and the guide/warranty cards. Plugging in the keyboard into the PC, and it is immediately recognized, with LED’s lighting up in a flow pattern. Installing the app gives you additional functionality, such as setting individual profiles, enabling macro’s for use in specific games, or creating your own. The SWARM software even allows to individual key assignments to be changed, or for tying a macro to a key press. The customization options are so numerous, it is difficult to include all of them, but suffice it to say you can make the keyboard do almost anything with ease. There is even a way to enable “Sound Feedback,” which is not something I’ve seen with other customizable keyboard software. You can enable click, typewriter, beam, and a sci-fi setting. All of which provide an audible sound played over your speakers while typing. While this feature isn’t required, it makes typing fun; I’m actually using the keyboard in “typewriter” sound mode as I type this. You can even adjust the volume so it’s not too loud when you turn the audio up on your normal listening. It should be noted that the keyboard sounds will not work for any keyboard (at least in my testing) except the ROCCAT Vulcan line of keyboards, or those supported by the app. The keys themselves have a satisfying type noise on their own but aren’t so loud that they’ll disrupt those around you. While this does lack a “10 key,” I don’t imagine many purchasing this for accounting or calculating purposes. They illumination settings in the SWARM app provide 7 pre-set lighting options; including: Wave, Snake, Fully Lit, heartbeat, breathing, fade, and a ripple setting. All of these provide a nice lighting display and are great for most users. There is even a way to add your own custom themes, where you can set lighting for different keys, and even some “Zones” like the “WSD” keys into a specific effect; in this case, heartbeat, fully lit, or breathing. You can also select individual keys with multiple being selected by holding the “CTRL” key on the displayed keyboard, and custom colors selected from either the presets, or using the color wheel. This can be done for every single key on the keyboard, except for the turn dial used for volume control (mute button can be). This keyboard, however, has a neat feature called “AIMO” which uses some sort of intelligence to create a “state-of-the-art” lighting display. It presents like a fluid press, with a natural ripple taking place near the keys being pressed. For instance, while playing a game that uses the WSD keys for movement, you will notice those keys being lit up in a fluid flow and growing outward to the keys surrounding the area. The natural breathing like flow is unique among other lighting settings but is predictable when pressing keys while playing. You will notice various shades of colors take place as you type or press keys in games. While I am not sure I understand the scenarios, I found that the keyboard began responding to the predictable presses I was making in games, with lighting flowing around the keys I pressed the most. I cannot begin to describe just how great this lighting system feature is, as I prefer it now to any other settings on my keyboard. It’s not your normal blinking or breathing effect and is a nice change in lighting on a gaming keyboard. The AIMO feature is also compatible with other ROCCAT products, and all act in a unified way, which makes online streaming fun! Overall, I cannot express enough how great this keyboard is. There are plenty of features shared across all keyboards, but the ROCCAT Vulcan stands out among every keyboard I have ever owned. The customization features alone make this a great recommendation, and the AIMO lighting system surpassed any expectation I had when using it. I can honestly say, this is now my favorite gaming keyboard.

Premium Feel, Compact, Well Thought out Design

I've tested a lot of keyboards in the last year and I definitely have a soft spot in my heart for mechanical keyboards. In my opinion they're the best keyboards for gaming and typing. This week I tested the new ROCCAT Vulcan TKL wired mechanical keyboard.  Out of the box I could immediately tell this keyboard was well thought out. The top of the keyboard base has a nice brushed aluminum plate with polished edges. The switches are exposed and have thin keycaps, which allow for maximum lighting beneath them. There are media controls which allow me to quickly adjust volume or mute my computer and best of all there is no number pad or extra extra media keys. This is especially nice because it keeps the keyboard size compact. While using this keyboard to game the keyboard was very responsive. One thing I liked about it was the feel of the keys. I noticed that I didn't have to bottom out the keys to get a response. a half press would register as key press. Another thing I liked was that the lighting profiles are static. Other keyboards would lose their lighting profiles as soon as the software was shut down.  Which brings me to the topic of software. This keyboard uses a software called Swarm to control lighting profiles, remap keys and load custom gaming profiles. The Swarm software was easy to install, easy to use and worked well with other ROCCAT products.  Overall in my opinion, this is a good keyboard that will fit most people's needs for work and play and it has my recommendation.

Gaming Keyboard that takes you to the Next Level!

The ROCCAT - ROCCAT® Vulcan TKL Compact Mechanical RGB Gaming Keyboard - Black is the new standard in gaming keyboard. Style, Class, functionality, tactile responsiveness, visually stunning yet simplistic; everything you need to take your game to the next level. Crush your opponents with the advantages you will gain with the ROCCAT Vulcan TKL! I have tested several keyboards over the past few years and I have to say this one impressed me. Definitely in my top 3 recommended gaming keyboards. I loved the sleek style this keyboard brought to my desktop. The LED backlighting is awesome, yet not too bright to distract from your game. The mechanical keys are different than the tactile keys, but exceptionally responsive, fast, and accurate. I wasn't sure I would like the know-style volume control on the physical keyboard, but found I used it often and it was quick and effective at changing volume when needed or when the sound of the game was too loud or quiet. I even tested this keyboard with a MacBook Pro for comparison with the PC and PC Laptops. Surprisingly, while specifically designed for Windows OS, it performed flawlessly, except where the "Command" key was necessary such as copy and pasting from the keyboard. I did find that you must used the provided cable or the keyboard will not respond or register with the computer (Tried an Apple Branded USB C to USB C with not luck) PROS - ROCCAT Scores big with design, style, and funcationality - Solid build using real metal giving it sturdiness and reliability for years to come - Excellent layout - Mechanical Keys boasting over 50 million keystroke life - Responsive in both Windows and Mac OS - Effortless setup, plug and play - Physical knob for volume was actually useful CONS - Not having a full keyboard with 10-key pad is a bit of a downside if you were to use this keyboard beyond gaming - Must use the provided braided USB A to USB C cable

Great feel and design with awesome lighting!

I love the size, feel, layout, and features of the Vulcan TKL! It's a great keyboard with a well thought out efficient design and it has lots of software customizable with features giving a lot of value for the money in this gaming keyboard. Design I like the space saving choices on this keyboard. There are no dedicated media control buttons, other than volume and mute. I am glad they kept the volume and mute. The top of the keys are very short, vertically. This isn't a bad thing, it just lets more light out - I think it's very cool! There's very little room above the function keys, keeping the overall dimensions small. The volume dial is great! While it isn't really special or creative in theory it's very well implemented with soft and quiet yet has a solid click-click-click feel (not sound) as you turn it. You can make a large change in volume very quickly or one notch very easily too. Even the simple but brilliant fact that instead of having a caps lock like on the caps lock key or somewhere else on the keyboard the key just changed color to white when it's on! I was impressed when I noticed that! Feel The keys have a great feel. While the top of the keys seem smaller the space from center to center seems to be normal as I like typing on it and don't have any problems with the key size or design. The keys don't need to go the whole way down to activate them, there is a lot of travel if you do. It's a great typing experience though. The Titan mechanical switches seem great to me! Key presses are fast and responsive, also giving a good feel. RGB Lighting and Swam The lighting looks very bright on this keyboard! You can turn it on or off, change the setting, or adjust the brightness on the keyboard itself. Install the Swarm software for full customization. Just a bit about Swarm...Besides customizing the keyboard lighting, Swarm lets you assign macros, remap keys, set a hot key to launch an application, or even start a timer. There are tons of built in macros for lots of games or you can make your own. One interesting feature is AIMO which they refer to as an "intelligent lighting system" or "living light". It's very cool! When enabled, which it is by default, the keyboard automatically does different cool things as you type. For instance it may light the keys you just typed on differently for a short time. It just changes and does different things. They call it "organic" in the way it works and that's a fair way to describe it. I like this because rather than going through all the different preset options or making your own it does some very cool things on it's own without just running the same pattern continuously. I posted two pictures of a quick gaming layout I made with the Swarm key illumination settings. I'm not sure the pictures do it justice but they give you a good idea of what the lighting looks like and how much light you can see from the side.

As therapeutic as it a technical masterpiece

I’ve seen Roccat products used by streamers and at Best Buy stores in the PC Gaming section, but until very recently, I have stuck to mainstream brands on the market for years. What a refreshing change this Vulcan TLK keyboard is! The spacing on each key allows for the most precise keystrokes my fingertips have had the pleasure of striking. The key caps are square, but concave in the middle to the perfect degree. What I find & mention as therapeutic, and never considered as a lifetime gamer, is how little effort and distance you need to press the keys for them to register. Its a total game changer that I don’t think I will revert from. It's actually helping to relieve soreness at the base of my middle finger (left hand) from pressing/holding the “W” key a few million times over the last 20 years because so little effort and quick response. Lightning quick! While you can totally plug & play this with any computer out the box ASAP; downloading the Roccat Swarm software to manage profiles, lighting, firmware updates is a must. The technical design and features of the software accentuate an already beautifully illuminated, and keyboard layout for a gaming setup. Really nice software again and expect an update that requires you to unplug/replug for a moment for the firmware to take. On the note of plug, while the cord is not braided, it feels sturdy, and plugs in the keyboard via USB C. I love that. There is a “sound feedback” option that is really neat where you can make the keyboard click or sound like an old fashioned typewriter (though speakers or headphones)...it just has so many neat features and functions. Infinite light combinations with some cool AIMO intelligent lighting that I have to say is pretty smart. I usually have a solid color, but this is working really well w/ my Alienware rig and the random flowing colors just mesmerise me. The DJ style volume knob is pretty cool too. I love this keyboard! Going to have to switch over to mouse and mousepad ASAP.

    Very compact and great quality

I love this keyboard, its very slim, compact and feels very sturdy with an aluminum body. I got the linear switches, which are Roccat's own, but feel kind of cherry MX red linears. They make a nice mechanical clack, but don't have the annoying click of blues, they feel very nice and no tactile bump, great for gaming, but you may not like them much if you are a typist. The keycaps are super slim, however they feel very sturdy and there is barely any wiggle, being so slim, makes the RGB stand out way more than other keyboards. Being and ten keyless board, you save space to move your mouse to your pleasure. I love this form factor. Their software is great, very intuitive and easy to use, I would not categorize it as "bloatware" as other brands software, because its very light and very useful, allows to configure lighting and other things. The only con I could say about this kb is the fact that the key caps appear to be plastic ABS, as they are very smooth and shiny, so be prepare to clean finger oils. I really wish most kb manufacturers ditch ABS and all start including double shot PBT key caps as they are more durable and less prone to finger oil shine. These, being so slim, I'm not so sure there are aftermarket PBT key caps sets that may be compatible, but may be worth looking online. Other than that, they keyboard is great and I will highly recommend it to anyone looking to save desk space, some money (cheaper compared to others) and make a nice light show due the super slim caps!

I actually own the Roccat TKL Pro but they are basically the same. I do more typing then gaming but got this because I love the feel and look of Mechanical Keyboards. The build of this keyboard is Solid with it's brushed aluminum finish. The key strokes are buttery smooth along with the Best RGB lighting I've ever had. I also like the mute button and volume wheel placed in the perfect spot. My only very small complaint and not enough to deduct any stars is the Swarm Software. It was a headache just to get it downloaded, And then applying the features took a very long time to figure out. But after a while you'll get the hang of it.

Absolutely gorgeous keyboard the overall build is the best you could get for the price as opposed to some Logitech keyboards that cost a lot more. A few key features of the roccat vulcan is the size, aluminum frame, detachable USB C cable, low profile keys, and how comfortable the keys are in addition to the responsiveness of the keys while gaming. There's plenty of space for mouse movement as opposed to using the full sized keyboard. It's got volume control with a mute button plus a few RGB features without having to use any software and also a lot of shortcut functions like disabling the windows key while gaming. The only downside to this keyboard is that it doesn't have macros keys. Overall this is a good keyboard and it would look incredibly appealing on any desk, it's a gem.

The pictures online just don't do the ROCCAT keyboard any justice --- this item is simply stunning in person. The options on this piece of machinery just make it really a full-on smart keyboard which will make a more than perfect must-have addition to your gaming setup. Here are some basic pros and cons: PROS - It has a volume control on the keyboard itself so it doesn't interrupt the game flow - The material doesn't feel cheap; has a slightly brushed aluminum top with a smooth finish --- feels solid - The AIMO lighting option is amazing!! Serious eye candy!! - Easily compatible with USB-C to make for a smooth, clean inclusion in your existing gaming setup - The keys are intentionally built to complement the game play setup; this is obviously noticeable against my other gaming keyboard Cons: - The keyboard did seem to get a bit warm after a while of game play; I understand that it is doing a lot, but my other keyboard didn't get as warm as fast. All in all, this keyboard is a MUST HAVE for your gaming arsenal --- even if just to impress company or film a cool gaming video online!

This keyboard is great in terms of quality, features, switch, and lighting if you care about that. Only downside is there is a light pinging noise when bottoming out a key but if you’re just planning to game on this keyboard then it won’t be noticeable. Also, the switches actuation point is 1.4mm so it might need some getting used to when typing. The volume knob is very tactile for each turn and there is a volume mute button beside it although you can’t change the function of that little key.

Absolutely the best keyboard I had for gaming! The keys feel very smoother and lighter also with the farther keys being easier to reach (such as Alt and shift) the volume besel and mute button makes it easier to access my sound and the right of the keyboard is Absolutely amazing, although I have one problem with the rgb is that the preset for the lighting sometime glitches and gets weird for a nanosecond and sometimes can repeat alot in some games I'm playing, although a simple factory reset mostly did the trick although it happens every now and then, and in the dark or when your playing a game and lose where your fingers are and the wasd keys are there's a small bump on the w key that makes it easier to find

Simply, ROCCAT has entered the world of competition in the domain of games powerfully and convincingly. Flagship build quality in minimal outstanding design and the keyboard is sturdy and free of cheapy materials. RGB is breathtaking at night and bright. Keys are punchy and nicely floating at a really good spacing. Swarm desktop software is required to have the full ability to customize the keyboard. AIMO is a jump into the field of lighting. Any ROCCAT device is connected, lights will adjust itself to interact with other devices which awesome as you get an auto-configuration. I loved it!!!!!!

I also love that it's easy to take with me being it has a detachable usb cable , the customization is amazing when you download roccats drivers, as you can see in the pictures! Really great keyboard. The tactile feedback isn’t too clicky or loud. Beautiful RGB that doesn’t need extra software to configure. Very useful for gaming and writing papers for school. The keys are a little tall, so it took a few days to get used to typing on them.

I was looking for a low profile keyboard that also was smaller. This one came up as an option and I am glad I went with it. Has super easy to use software for rgb lighting and the mechanical switches feel really good. Overall a great keyboard.

RGB lighting in a comfortable, reliable keyboard

    Compact, Design, Keys

The ROCCAT Vulcan TKL mechanical gaming keyboard is one of the better keyboards I have used. I was able to pair this keyboard with the ROCCAT Elo headset, and the appearance of them makes them seem like a matched set with the RGB lighting, which is adjustable with the function keys on the keyboard, and can be turned off if preferable. I liked them both, and they were clearly meant to be compatible for those who are looking for a set, but if you aren’t looking for a headset to go with it, this keyboard is a great option all on its own. It was strange to me to not have the number pad on the right and when I sit down I still reach for those numbers at first. I’m not using this for anything that I would need to type a lot of numbers, and it’s a fairly quick adjustment to just use the numbers on top, as though you were just typing and not using the ten key pad. The keyboard is very comfortable to use. It’s not too clicky, with a very smooth and fast response. If I were typing a lot, I could use this keyboard and be comfortable with it; I wouldn’t have to slow down at all, and I can type quickly. I had no trouble with this (and am typing this review with the keyboard). By removing the number pad, it allows for a gaming specific design, with all of the function keys you want for online gaming, and the keys on the side are still there, the directional ones, scrolling, etc. It adds a volume control to the keyboard as well. Its compact size gives more room on the desk for the mouse, without seeming smaller. The keys are still full sized and nothing seems sacrificed. It is really well designed and well made. I’d like to mention again how comfortable it is to use, and it has already replaced my previous mechanical keyboard, which has the number pad but is a little too noisy. This isn’t completely quiet, but not bad. I've only been using this a few days, but for a while each day, and have found no issues with this keyboard at all. It is also reasonably priced for a gaming keyboard, and I would definitely recommend this device.

The keyboard is nice, looks great, has great LED's, the keys are the perfect level of click sound. Feels great everything works, the software is a bit slow and semi freezes when updating, or changing settings / lighting settings when you apply. Other then that it's an amazing product for the price. ROCCAT has made one hell of a name for themselves and it's the first time I ever bought their products and let me tell you I am very pleased.

I love this keyboard. The lighting is amazing, the switches are amazing, the keycaps are amazing. The only thing I do have a small problem with is there is sort of a ring every time you click. The keyboard is amazing
