The only downside is the lack of songs unless you purchase some

Cool game, wish there were more songs on the game that don't have to be downloaded and purchased.

The song list for this generation on disk is poor. All the good songs are on the PS store making you spend way more cash than what you intend. The only good thing about it is the reduced lag on the instrument making it easy to play decent.

I never played any Rock Band games before (besides The Beatles and Green Day titles) but I did own many Guitar Hero videogames ( GH3, World Tour, Metallica). I have read other reviews that compare this to RB3 but since I'm yet to play it I'll just review the game in my personal experience.
I will begin by stating that I am wholely satisfied with my purchase. I went to my local Best Buy and picked this up, and while my dad was picking some CDs I took a look at the video games shelves as I always do. When I grabbed my RB4 guitar bundle it was marked $129.99, however at the videogame shelves, on a lower shelf I saw the same bundle marked $99.99. An assistant helped me solve this and stated that the current price was 129.99, but that they were able to sell this bundle to me at the price of 99.99 as it was "our fault" (his words). Lucky me, plus I could still use my Gamer's Club card and got it for $80. Couldn't be more happy with that tbh. What I saved I used it to buy a $50 card to buy songs ingame.
Now for the game itself, I must say I felt a little disappointed at the beginning as the guitar seemed like it didn't respond accordingly to your timing and strumming, but after installing the nearly 4gb update, calibration issues were gone and everything worked pretty good (if you have this same issue, before turning back on the game, wait until this update downloads, then let it install and calibrate one more time, problem solved).
+Guitar design, features the 5 typical buttons: green, red, yellow, blue and orange (5 on the upper neck, 5 on the lower neck).
+Use your old PS3 guitar (if playing on PS4. Can't cross platforms)
+Importable songs. Import all your songs you already own on previous installments, also you will be able to import RB3 setlist (if you previously owned it) for $15. There's around 2000 songs available right now.
+I hate microtransactions or DLCs, however, being able to play my favorite music on this game (such as Green Day, Blink 182, Jimmy Eat World, Alice in Chains, among others) is a huge win, so I'd consider this acceptable.
-The main setlist. This must be the main focus on a music game, but the tracks in this game is not the best, you'll stick to playing about 40% of the songs (even less) as the rest arent good or fun to play. This setlist is a huge let down, so I recognize for some it will be a "cash grabber" as it leads you to the necessity of buying more tracks.
-Glitchy store
-No practice mode or "vesus" mode, just play with guitar-bass combo, theres no guitar vs. guitar mode.
Overall this product is a 3 out of 5 stars, but my experience as a best buy customer helped it rise to 4.
Satisfied with my purchase, totally recommended.

My pre-order copy arrived yesterday, and unboxing was truly a pleasure! Being able to restore old purchases I had made on PlayStation 3 versions is really fantastic. There's lots of great songs included as well. Supposedly, I am supposed to receive an email with a code to redeem for additional songs as a thank you for pre-ordering, get that email I have not seen quite yet. Oh, the PlayStation 3 drums and microphone controller work perfect on the PlayStation 4!

Guitar doesn't work

The Guitar controlled included in the game did not work. I contacted tech support and was told that I had to patch the guitar firmware using a Bluetooth enabled PC (!!). After attempting and failing multiple times to update the firmware, I contacted them again and was told that there were lingering problems for some people with the guitar patching. To this day, it does not work and the issues haven't been resolved. I haven't returned the game as I'm holding out hope that the controlled will be fixed some day but I'm getting worried that I basically bought a pretty plastic controlled to sit in the corner.
